Lord Tariq: The Soundview MC is Still on it

Written by SOHH Reckless

lordtariqngunz.jpg

It's been years since Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz have made moves relevant enough to captivate a national audience.

Gunz has been quiet, but Southeast Bronx's Tariq is still on the grind with his heart and focus set on the streets -- about the only audience who really appreciates him at this moment in time. Most not keen to the underground scene think he hasn't been making moves but his aim is relentless; he's been hitting up numerous mixtapes, has popped up on a couple of SMACK DVDs with his Soundview Team Saga crew, and is still promoting the 2005 release of his indie effort The Barcode.

What's next for the MC is a rumored comeback with his partner in crime, Peter Gunz. Whether or not the rumor is true, I don't know for sure, but I'm most definitely keeping my ear to the streets, primarily the streets of both Soundview and Vyse Ave. If the rumor is true, however, this will be a continuing saga with the whole Cory Gunz/Militia affiliation, a much needed breath of fresh air for the ever-suffocating rap game. Many will oppose this statement, but as Cory has said before, there are plenty of people who don't believe in the vision, and probably won't believe until it's too late. These nonbelievers, he claims, wont be "thrown under the bus" just yet.

teamsaga.jpg

Says Tariq:

"I'm out to show these labels and the execs that I know what I'm talking about. I know what I'm doing as far as the business goes, I know how to build a name for myself and get myself distributed.

"New York is lost right now. Anything I do, when it does pop off as far as videos and all that, will be done in New York, because people are forgetting about New York right now. Everybody's going to Miami and L.A . to shoot videos, but I'm trying to bring that raw Hip Hop back."

Raw and uncut is much needed, especially with the happy-go-lucky pop tunes dominating the airwaves these days. Early.

Good morning NY and to the regulars: Huey, Xclusive BK, Bigup2 bk, Cieceroe.

I don't think these are the dudes to do much for the movement here in NY. The effort is admirable but they are on min 20 of their 15 minutes. Do they even have a second song people remember? And damn can we get more haters for NY; Yeah 96 was a good year in hip hop fuck it, it was a great year. This bring NY movement is not about the south, the only time we think about the south is when we wanna come scoop your woman up when we in town so relax. NY cats ain't worried about you. What we are worried about is the coonism coming on the radio that's got men and woman smiling extra wide showing grills, snappng their fingers dancing like those old racist looney toons cartoons. Ain't time to smile, time to go to war viacom is purposely just showing this shit so you think the war is over. NY hip hop let you know shit was on. Politically , economically and socially. We tired of the radio and Viacom in gerneral. It's a time to celebrate and dance but not while we take up the prisons, it's a time to celebrate but not while we have no help for 6 days in a disaster. It's a time to celebrate but not when we can't articulate our way into the board room. It's bigger than NY And by bringing NY back we mean the return to the truth of the situation and the root of the music. The people need the truth. Change your position from a pawn to the nigga makin moves. Love us we don't hate yall. End of the day if white people tried to re-enslave you this would not be an issue.

Won't you get your bitch ass in the booth and drop some shit, since you so salty. Last week it was KRS-One that needed to come back. Now its Peter Gunz and Lord Tariq?? Are you serious? Big Sun:

Whats good fam I feel what u sayin' about that real Hip-Hop coming back and getting these gimmicks off the tv and radio. The shyt is crazy u can't drive 2 blocks without having to hear a song about grills or shaking ass on the radio. And you can't watch television for 10mins without seeing a soft-porn music video. Thats why my daughter is not allowed to watch them damn videos that only portray black women as sex objects whom are all butt and breast and have no brains or personality. The perception for a the blackmen in the community are if I don't have a car or jewelry women won't want me at the same time for women its I need a man with a car and jewelry so he can take care of me. WTF!

Read a book. Get a real fuckin' job! Everbody can't be a rapper and ever women can't be a singer or model. This shyt gets me madd. I ask blackmen and black women, why is the entertainment business the only thing we believe we can be successful at. There's so much money to be made at there in all industries besides, music & hollywood. Why must we sell ourselves and our people out for a crumbs. Sure a million dollar contract sounds nice, but think about how much money the ni99a writing your contract is making, think about the director whos shooting your video, think about the multi-media specialist adding the special effects in, think about the producer who gives you your budget. Think about the FUCKIN' BOARD ROOM! yo I'm done taking these ni99as to church...to my Bk ni99as you know who you are hold this shyt down.

PEACE!
BROOKLYN STAND UP!

:X
Very well said. But, those videos wouldn't exist if there weren't people watching, you know? Have you noticed that most of the "black" videos they play on MTV are T&A? They rarely play the normal ish. I guess that is what they see as being Hip Hop. Sad state.

I won't respond to the hater. But I clearly didn't make my point well enough. Cats are tired of the same 16 song rotation of mindless music. The wrong people are in control. It ain't about NY, and I rep my city to the fullest. I miss the old Andre 3000 "I came into this world high as a bird, from second hand cocaine powder i know that sounds ubsurd." That shit was one of the illest albums ever period. But ya'll ain't doing that no more at least not on the mass media level. 3000 is so fed up with the coon shit coming out of the south that he doesn't even want to rap anymore. And I'm tired of the coon shit coming out of the south not the south. How many grills you got, your a pimp, I got this I got that, on the real all that shit is done and said out of insecurity. I ain't sayin NY don't do it cause the cats in NY with the spotlight right now do to, but the south didn't begin with that. Now everyone is on the money issue. Real talk If I got it, I ain't got to tell you. I ain't the richest cat in the world, but I'm good. The people I work with (white people) don't talk about money anywhere on the level we do, because they are used to having it. We are a culture of braggers when we only just touched the first rung of the latter to success. We have a problem with who is controlling the Hip Hop, it's got your kids, it's influence has white kids wearing do-rags. We need to gear the music towards gearing people up for the world instead of dancing and layin another cat 6 feet deep.

@ XclusiveBK

yeah I got my first on the way and television isn't going to be an option for a while. I need to gain that influence over the child before the devil does. ever notice little kids dancing more and more provactively. That shit makes me upset because those pedophile ass niggas see that shit too. It's bigger than the music. It's like crack put in the community in the 80's by the cia. I see the Viacom building everyday and everyday I think this is satans home. It's crazy.

:BIG SUN
I don't know... I am thinking that it is not the whole South that is on some "coon" (lol) ish as you say. I am liking rappers like TI and Bun B. But I think that when you look at Rap on a national level, there is bafoonery coming out of every coast. We in Ny had our shiny suit era. So, now the South is trying to show what they have. Grillz with no curtains on their windows. But, as far as radio goes, nothing is going to change unless the listeners tune out.

Shout to my dude Big Sun...my advice is to run for cover homie...it's about to be a stanapalooza in here. Why? This quote right here:

"New York is lost right now. Anything I do, when it does pop off as far as videos and all that, will be done in New York, because people are forgetting about New York right now."

Saying the words "New York" on this blog is like letting R. Kelly babysit your niece...mafuckas can't help themselves...

I do co-sign your post...some of these cats need to let it go. Not so much because he's an old MC...just that fact that you were a one hit wonder. Who's coming back next? Tracey Lee?

Catch yall when the topic changes.

Maybe if we stop changing the topic everyday he'll come up wit some new sht

New York is beyond recucitation at this point for the simple reason that everyone is trying to revive an area instead of just making music.

It's not about North vs. South, but NY'ers sure are salty about the shine that the South is getting right now.

Someone mentioned above about grills and bafoonery? What about Diddy, Mase AND the Lox, a bunch of grown ass men dancing around in multi-colored aluminum/plastic space suits, or what about the Wu rocking fangs and excessive jewelry, but when y'all did it, it was cool? Not really.

I'm not saying that NY'ers are blaming Southern artists but damn, why are so many people worried about what other artists are doing? All you have to do is put out quality music and if you have any TRUE fans, they'll buy it and if not, then bow out gracefully, but don't target your anger and frustration on "snap music" because of your irrelevance to this game at this time.

The biggest misconception is that all the South is about is snapping and dancing and candy paint and grillz and that's really not what it's about. Most Southerners don't even bump that garbage, just like a lot of NY'ers DO.

Point blank if there wasn't a market for it, it wouldn't be in the forefront, so stop being on this "bring New York back" and just make quality music, if you have any REAL fans they'll still cop ya album, if not, switch lanes and move on from rap and stop fuckin complainin cause it makes y'all sound like lil fuckin kids.

Oh and Peter Gunz and Lord Tariq are some hot garbage and can't even bring THEMSELVES back, let alone an entire region.

Oh yeah, one more thing, everybody knows that hip hop was born and bred in NY, we didn't forget. Hip hop may have started in NY but it damn sure ain't gonna end there, so lighten the fuck up!

The turn the radio off love, it's not hard at all! Listen to what you WANT to listen to. The radio stations play the most requested music, if people wanna hear that, tune out! Control what you listen to. Don't like what's on the boob tube, turn it off! Or better yet, put pressure on the FCC to set higher standards for television content.

Naw I was responding to Big Sun's statement on his first post.

All these conglomerates act in cahoots with each other so far as spreading the poison. The bafoonery IS NOT LIMITED TO THE SOUTH. I said it. But the Wu if you listened to them they weren't pushing materialism they were pushing the Nation of the Gods. You can't promote both. Style is style Puff I'll give you he's satan. But Artistry should be the goal in making the music, the business aspect of things fucked it up. If I had the talent I would do it for free, that's when you love it.

:EF
Oprah... I am thinking she is more of a political powerhouse now than entertainer. I think the guests she puts on her show are the real entertainers, and she just sits back and guides it. But, how great of a thing for a black woman to say one thing, and have half of America swaying in her direction? In a positive way. That is power.

And, you know I wanted to say something this morning about Htown Mike. You know, yesterday Big Up basically bashed me for talking to Htown. I didn't understand why. I was not here on Friday because I was preparing for my opening. But, I got the rundown this morning in email. I am disgusted that the blog turned so ugly on Friday. I do not even want to comment on what took place. But, I will say that I believe he has a right to his opinion just as we do. But, aside from that, the main reason I was speaking to him was to understand WHY he has such opinions of black people. I wanted to bring him to the table to really get a grip on his views. I don't see what was so wrong with that. But, nevertheless. I do not appreciate the things that I heard that he said. Anyhow. I just wanted to day that. I don't really know why, but I had to get it off my chest before people start thinking I am a republican or something.

The bafoonery IS NOT LIMITED TO THE SOUTH. I said it. But the Wu if you listened to them they weren't pushing materialism they were pushing the Nation of the Gods.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Is there whole catalog about pushing the Nation of the Gods? I don't think so, just like ALL southern artists don't talk about candy paint and grillz. Just like all NY'ers ain't on some positive, stimulating poetry shit, it's not about the region, that's what people need to realize, it's about the individual artist, so don't direct your frustration, for lack of a better work, on an entire region, because if that were the case, we could say a WHOLE lot about some wack cats that came outta NY. No bullshit.

Oh. I mean, I see both points in the South v North thing. I live in the South now, and it truly is its own world of music. I think some of it is great. Sometimes, you want to just dance, you know? At the same time, I am sick of hearing about "bringing NY back." I am like, just do it already! But, it is frustrating that NY hasn't put out any decent music in a hot minute. The industry holds us as standard. So, it looks bad that we (NY) aren't holding our ish down.

Rocky that is the 1st and only post I'm co-signing of yours. Other than that your on my...I'm not feeling you like that but we was cool and now u think u better than people but its all good list :-)

I think this North vs. South is some made up shit, it doesn't exist. It's garbage coming out of NY, Dipset, fuck it I said it, them some clown ass niggas. And it's some garbage coming out of the South, IMO, Jeezy, DFB, Rick Ross, them niggas are wack to me, and I only really listen to Southern rap, which IMO again, is just that, rap, not hip hop.

Just be quiet and do some work b4 ya boss catch you on a Hip-Hop blog...woudln't want u 2 get in trouble 4 talking out your ass ;-)

I'm out, I have to work a long sched in the field today. I'm announcing that I'm out before someone starts stanning me.

XBX and Rocky, I hope you guys work that out. I'm feeling a lot of what I'm hearing but this bring NY back campaign is getting tired.

Peace, I'm out until tomorrow.

:X
And you say that I think I am better than people why? What exactly have I said that would make you feel that way? Is it because I stick to my views instead of jumping in with the crowd? I'm confused. I don't think that I am saying anything different now than I have ever. I haven't contradicted myself. So what's up?

Real Talk I love this culture I fuckin love it. But now I love it like a abused woman still keeps coming back to her abuser. I am constantly disappointed. I don't listen to regular radio, I listen to sirius satelite in my truck because I get the real shit un-edited. And so far as the radio goes here we got it good, I spent some time in philly and DC and they just playing the same shit on every station. Little story, I took my girl and her Fam down to Maryland this Summer for vacation. My girls mom almost got hit by this White guy as she was walking through the parking lot. I was already in the store. I looked out the store window and saw a whole bunch of people crowded around this white dude and my future mother in-law tryin to stop them from killin him. Turns out he cursed at her and the Black people who witnessed it stepped to his business. I was never more proud to be Black because It was gonna get outta control without me having to wild the fuck out on him. My point is this, imagine if music was this set on defending it's people instead of making more victims.

Shout out to BANGA!

Just saw you slide in.

That's the problem, and I'm not sure if it was you or someone else that said that it's big business now. It's not about the true core of hip hop. It's about making $$$ for the machine, the record label.

:NSITE
One coast that I think is very particular about what they put out is the WestCoast. You would think that Cali being so big, would be banging out artists left and right. But, every now and then, when they have a major artist come out, they are good.

And, how come people don't say it's time for the old heads in the West to get out of the game? Snoop, Dre, Cube, Xzibit... all old heads.

Pause Ma Don't get it twisted no frustration on this end, I hate the dip shits too. But don't come at my neck with the whole Wu catalog God Body Agenda I know it very well. I don't argue with ladies, so you can pause on that front too. I listen to everything. I don't limit myself, as you clearly have done. I agree that there is a whole lot of wack shit coming out of NY. If you had read my posts before you would see that I made that very clear. It's too early in the morning to battle about something we both agree on. I've got half my brain tied behind my back right now, but you still don't want to argue with me.

Hey all

I can't even comment on the "north vs. south" shit 2day, too draining....

but Dig...are you really ready 4 Lord Tariq & Peter Gunz??? What made them so sweet? I know they had that one hot joint 12 years ago, but that doesn't mean they can bring anything back...yes...no...I just don't think so...not waiting on that one...

Yo just don't start ebeefing
I see a miscommunication that appears to be getting blown out of proportion

so to put it in perspective
Yall Don't Know ever other
personally this is about getting to know different people and getting alternative perspectives and point of views that you may or may not agree with. And seeing what live is like in different regions and the opinions and perceptions people have on the same global or social topics.
If I'm not feeling your point of views
I just take it in stride
cause you ain't fkin me or paying my bills. Plus the ignorance is useful too
cause it reminds me its out there
and helps me see whats some of our peoples problems etc.
My point is take that sht in stride
there's a couple people here who I think are fkin knuckle headz
but I keep it moving
some I've gone back n forth wit
but I don't know personally so I ain't holding grudges over what someone typed
so just to be ebeefing yall

I feel NY is all talk the more and more i hear from ya'll dudes. Everybodys always sayin shit like "Brooklyn stand up!!!" or somethin' like, "New York stand tha' fuck up!!!" but ya'lls ass never get up outta your perverbial seats... ya'll just keep sittin' The south is full of hustlers, as history shows us, men that had nothing in a nothing environment and were forced to make there way. The movement of the south is just an example of the hustles in which we posses as a whole. New york was on top simple cause of it being the biggest city so people flock to it, but in reality ya'll couldn't hold on to the game, ya'll got the fire started but simply can't do it alone. Yeah ya'll started it, and congrats for that, but now it's time to let the hustlers take it to the finish line.

And, how come people don't say it's time for the old heads in the West to get out of the game? Snoop, Dre, Cube, Xzibit... all old heads.

That's a good question. I think because these cats have managed to reach that age gap. People in my age group and teens recoginze Snoop, Dre, Cube and X, but not for his rhymes, for Pimp My Ride, but ask these teens about KRS One, Big Daddy Kane, Rakim they look like who?

Now I'm not saying that all of the above are good artist, I'm not saying they're bad artists either, I'm just saying that they've managed to stay relevant by connecting with what's hot at the time, yet still make music that the "older" fans feel, but that's MO.

I will co-sign the machine is the problem. The question that needs to be answered is how to destroy the machine.

Whoa Big Sun...I don't e-beef very well. I just thought that we were discussing the topic from OUR POINTS OF VIEW and we obviously feel differently about it, that's all. I'm not arguing with you, I'm having a discussion. I respect everyone's opinion, except htownmike, and I like to hear what everybody has to say about the topic.

The question that needs to be answered is how to destroy the machine.

Who really give a fuck about Lord Tariq ? I mean come on... they had one hot single... they are the epitome of the term "ONE HIT WONDER". I don't think son is wack or anything but goddamn....
You got 6 old ass niggas in baggy jeans standing in front of the projects....
Are you fucking serious ? These niggaz don't bring anything new to the table.
When are these old ass has beens gonna stop rapping and concentrate on getting some real money in the backround. Like the Roots said... "everybody wants to be a star".

@rocky and n-site

fact of the matter is krs-one, and rakim, and all them are ny legends, granted they are legends to many in the south who respect the game, but more so they are new york legends to all of ya'll which is why they don't get the same love as snoop, and all them who went nation wide... i have much respect for em' don't get me wrong, but the rest of the nation doesn't love em' like ya'll do.

but Dig...are you really ready 4 Lord Tariq & Peter Gunz??? What made them so sweet? I know they had that one hot joint 12 years ago, but that doesn't mean they can bring anything back...yes...no...I just don't think so...not waiting on that one...

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Whoa, whoa, whoa .... LOL. I never said that.

1 - I said people LIKE Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz, not specifically them and on a side note, the Anthem wasnt the only shit they had, it just mighta been the only shit YOU heard of theirs.

2 - My reason for saying that was that I think we need to turn this bland ass soup hip hop has become into some kinda spicy ass cajun gumbo. Meaning, a lot of the shit out now sounds the same, everyone is rapping alike and talking about the same shit, and a lot of them are newer cats who came into the game in the midst of the bullshit so we cant expect them to be able to change the game. I think it would be refreshing to have some of the old flavor back.

Now if you werent a fan of theirs in particular, thats cool, but Im sure - if you are a real fan of hip hop - you can think of a couple cats that aint around no more that you wouldnt mind seeing come back and shake some shit up.

The question that needs to be answered is how to destroy the machine.

I don't think that will ever happen. The music industry, not just hip hop, has always been run by Jews and whites and they ain't fittin' ta break bread. I think these artists need to be held responsible for their own actions, but once again, they're just trying to make bread themselves, if that means going against their principals then they've just sold their soul to the devil, literally.

You got 6 old ass niggas in baggy jeans standing in front of the projects....

LOL I have to admit that shyt is ghetto and tacky as fuck

@Rocky and N-site

as far as west coast artist
there reason those artist are still relevant is cause the farm system for talent in the west isn't all that good.
So those niggaz are all the west has right now. If there was more up and coming artist from the west you'd be hearing for some of them to fall back.
To be honest all of em are shells of their former selves, they make good sht here and there but none of em are bringin it the way they used to. Once the west starts having some more new faces that can really rap. Then you'll start to see them ngz gradually put their Mic down. I'll also add that west has far more respect for OG's than everyone else. And alot of them ngz were former gang bangers
so as long as they keep throwning up their old sets and twistin their fingers their always gonna keep gettin love. I got madd respect for their unity cause its real.
I respect the south's unity but I think its not personal at the west them ngz acting hang out and know each other.
from what I see from the south they support each other but its not as personal.

:NSITE
"they've managed to stay relevant by connecting with what's hot at the time"
^^^^^
See. That is what I am talking about. I always hear kats like KRS and "his era" complaining about not selling records and all. That above quote says it all. Those kats like Snoop and Cube have managed to stay in the game by switching ish up just enough to maintain their old audience, but enough to create a new one. That is how to make money.

:X
No beef, but you still haven't answered my question. I would hope that you aren't just putting ish out there to hear yourself talk. Or feel like you are making a point.

:BANGA!
You said...
"I'll also add that west has far more respect for OG's than everyone else."
^^^^^
Very very true. 100% agree.

@ n-Site I agree no e-beef

@ Xclusive bk

I also agree problem is it's too hard to get in. Look at M-1 from Dead Prez, first it's "it's bigger than Hip Hop" to that wack solo shit he put out where in the video he's sporting a new Lamborgini. You can't have it both ways. I ain't sayin you shouldn't have shit but at least don't contradict yourself while spreading the message. The Southern senators decided not to bring out the fact that MLK was cheating on his wife and having Mona' che trois with woman because they felt the man was dead and so was the movement. But if that shit would have come out while he was alive it would have been worse. Contradiction is a killer and it comes with the gain of power.

These niggaz need to stop rapping and read a fucking book !!!!
Where is the growth ? Why doesn't Lord Tariq take his knowledge of the business and turn it into a profitable business instead of trying to be a star. It ain't hapnin captain. Not to hate or anything but what the fuck has to happen before these niggaz get the point. They remind me of a clingy bitch that just doesn't get the point when you never pick up her phone calls. What doesthe public have to do to get you to stop rapping ? Let a nigga know so I can put the word out.
GODDAMN !!!!

Mornin all...
I remember discussing this with the group before, but let me restate. Hip hop is relatively young compared to other genres, so of course we'll see the same acts 35+ still making records. There's nothing wrong with that, but unless those acts start realizing that the game is different (I'm not saying make bubble gum shit), they can't come with "hip hop hippety hop" shit and expect to captivate todays consumer.

In the same token, old school concerts sell out and the older artists definitely have a fan base, so if they wanna stay true to them and their music, why do you wanna go platinum?

Like my twin pointed out, if they wanna come back with some good music (please let it be good), then the more the merrier. When you love hip hop and you had a taste of success, why should you let it go? All I ask is that you not put out BULLSHIT...

*staring at James Todd Smith*

Keep in mind that the most successful artists in the game (sales and critical acclaim) are all over 30, so while we get chicken noodle soup, we're really waitin on the Chronic.

Oh one hit wonder or not, Tariq and Gunz were both nice as shit, and instead of sayin "tell these one hit wonders to sit down" we should be sayin "put some shit out that hip hop can be proud of"...

Remember...only you can prevent blog fires.

news sed it best

Thank you, twin.

Thats all Im sayin.

@ Big Sun, cool beans

Hip hop is one big contradiction anyway. Get high, kids don't get high, shoot niggas, kids put down the guns, it's a big contradiction within itself, I think in order to figure out where hiphop needs to be, we need to look back and see where we went wrong. It goes back to the old adage, You won't know we're you're going, unless you know where you've been. It's cliche, but true.

:IHADNO

I think that most of these old heads should be doing just that... take what knowledge you have of the business, and create a business. No need trying to be in the limelight any longer. When your light is out, find a new bulb. That is what a lot of the white musicians do. They work behind the scenes in so many different ways. There is so much to do in the industry that still garners money.

I think all the so-called "ballers" in the rap game need to build their own machine. REAL TALK!

Everyone...I have the best solution...

Lets bring Good Music Back!!!!

out

You guys are some fraternal ass twins...

@ N-site

I can't argue with you on that front you are right. But the problem began with trust. We don't trust each other enough to run some shit. And as far as them controlling it... Well I'll be straight with you I'm RBG. I'm for runnin up on them till they let go or expire. African descended people have been communicating through music from the begining of time. It's our voice to each other. When the man is controlling it we need to kill the man. Nothing wrong wrong with saying fuck the boss after work. So why not kill him while you there? Not literally but figuratively. Mario Salvo said that we need to let those who control the machine know that as long as the cogs of the machine refuse to stop turning the machine shall have no power. If we some gun busters than be that for a righteous cuase, if you say fuck the police, than fuckem in every aspect keep them out of the community as long as you can govern it yourself. If we ain't content with the radio play get at the program directors and let these faggots know what you want.

Are the projects in new york really as hard as people make them out to be??? I mean they all have really nice signs displaying there name on them, and what not... in houston places are really run down, are they nicer than cats portray or is it just some parts of the city we never see, i've always wondered that.

Dressed, final post!

I co-sign each post I've read from Banga! The other person that spoke on west coast mc's gets love from me also.

As far as the Machine. There is no way to destroy the machine because like Rocky so eloquently pointed out, it's too old. We as black people have to decide which way we want it. Jay is an exec in the "machine" and it's not good enough for us. Bob Johnson and MJ are the "machine" and it's not good enough.

We as blacks have to pick a side. Either we want in or we don't. When one of "us" gets there, we have to get behind that person and stop the hate.

The true way to defeat the machine is to start our own. Rube Foster founded the first Negro League in 1920 and it was totally independent of the machine. That league thrived on it's own until we allowed white agents to infiltrate it and take away our best players. That only happened when Rube died and the greedy owners decided to take all the money and not pump the revenue back into the league.

The only way to beat the machine is to get our own labels, with our own acts, elect a true radical thinker as it's president and not a fucking capitalist. When that happens, we will then control our part of the "machine".

Peace to usuals from Chicago, I'm definitely out this time.

Oh one hit wonder or not, Tariq and Gunz were both nice as shit, and instead of sayin "tell these one hit wonders to sit down" we should be sayin "put some shit out that hip hop can be proud of"...

Remember...only you can prevent blog fires.

---------------

Put something else out ???
Its been 10 fucking years already. How many people on this blog bought their first album ? I know I didn't and its basically because they only had one banger. Craig Mack had more succes than these niggaz and we don't wanna hear from him. I been listening to this hip hop shit since I can remember and there is nothing wrong with memories. Don't ruin peoples good memories of you by coming out and embarrassing yourself. Enough with the kid gloves. Somebody needs to tell these niggaz to quit. Really... no bullshit. They need to post a blog of what niggaz we don't need to hear from.

SO I ASK THIS QUESTION .......

WHO ARE 5 RAPPERS WHO ARE TRYING TO MAKE A COMEBACK THAT YOU DON"T WANT TO HEAR ?

LL
THE WHOLE WU TANG (except for Ghost)
DMX
RAKIM
MASTER P UGGHHHHHH

There's more ....

MAC THAT'S HIP HOP LYRICS
Say man, niggaz say No Limit ain't hip hop.
Man these old fake ass niggaz don't even know what hip hop is.
Why don't you show 'em what hip hop is?
I'm 'bout to show a nigga what hip hop is. Nigga gimme a motherfuckin' beat
or something nigga. Motherfuckin' clap or something.

Mac:
So uh, who's ya favorite rapper
Do he really got skills
Is he real
Can he flow like this nigga who murda kills
Is he a fool
Or you like him cuz his single was cool
His video got bitches in bikinis hoppin' out the pool
Is he complete
Do he got tight lyrics and tight beats
Do he write his own rhymes
Do they sound like mines
Is he one of these niggaz who's on
Or is he just some other niggaz clone with no fuckin' style of his own
You probably like thugs
You probably like to fight in the clubs
You probably like him 'cuz he talk about murder and drugs
He's such a thug
What if a nigga told you he lyin'
Would he still be yo' #1 or would you change yo' mind
Did you listen to his LP or just one of his songs
Is he type that just go on and on about being the don
Or what he drive, where he live at
Tell him you don't wanna hear that
You around and GET jacked fuckin' WIT Mac!

Mac:
So who he sound like
Mystikal, Makaveli, or Bone
Wu Tang, Nas, or Jay Z
Man, niggaz are crazy
Niggaz will steal yo' style and fuck around be dissin' you
Knowing you the main nigga they be listenin' to
So what you like his voice
What he make you moist
I mean what
Did he sign ya autograph when you met him
Did he look at you strange and call his bodyguard like you was tryin' to
sweat him
Did he try to fuck? Did you let him?
Did he tell you he was diggin' you
And after he fucked you he got rid of you
Promised you he would send for you
Let him penetrate ya
Then you find out he ain't really got no paper
Now ya saying he raped ya
I know the game is tight, it's alright, it's so terrific
What I write is so profilic when it's to a beat that I can live with

I think all the so-called "ballers" in the rap game need to build their own machine. REAL TALK!

yeah but they would never be able to co-exist
ego's would destroy it.
look at the ones with the most money
if you think they could own a label together your buggin
plus some of em are just as bad a these corp companies
like puffy shares the same ideals as white corp america
he don't give a fk about real hip-hop music he cares about sales
and if you won't sell out he'll find someone who will
which is why bad boy has had a respectable artist since biggie.
I don't trust Jay-Z either
Personally alot of the artist with the doe to pull it off to me are sellouts.
Maybe Russell Simmons and someone else but who else I don't know

My Top 5
(and it goes a little something like this...)

-THESE GUYS ABOVE
-LL
-MASE
-LOON
-E40

I cannot think about any others off top, but I am so sure that there are plenty more.

@ hell

spare this whole room that weak shit

Big Sun I feel everything you're saying, but the problem is that a great deal of artists that are out today don't stand for anything, as long as they're cashing checks, they could give a fuck about the bigger picture, which is "the machine" fucking up something that niggas brought into existence.

All these nigs rap about how hard they are, that ish is not real. They bustin they gun on wax, not in real life. It's all about the almighty dollar, the root of all evil. Sad to say that the industry is gonna implode, mark my words, the industry has gone from sugar to shit and is continuing on that downward spiral. I still feel that the ARTISTS have the power to make change. They ARE the cogs that Big Sun speaks of, if they cease to operate, the machine is nothing.

NOW LORD TARIQ & PETA GUNZ WANT 2 B DA 4 RUNNAS N BRINGN NY BACK 2 ITS GLORY DAYZ. NIGS TALK AS IF NY EVER WENT ANYWHERE. N DA PAST YEAR SEVERAL NY ARTIST HAVE DROPPED ALBUMS RIGHT. LIL'KIM, LL COOL J, MOBB DEEP, BUSTA, GHOSTFACE, REMY MA, METHOD MAN, CAM'RON, JUELZ SANTANA, DMX. ON DECK: JAY-Z, NAS, RAEKWON, FAT JOE, STYLE P., PAPOOSE, REDMAN(NJ), LLOYD BANKS...ECT. SO WHAT IS NY'S PROBLEM? MUSIC GOES N CYCLES. DA WEST HAD IT LOCKED 4 A MINUTE & DA SOUF IS DOING ITS THING NOW AND HAS BEEN SINCE DA 90'S. SO ALL THIS REGIONAL HATE IS 4 DA BIRDS. NY NEEDS 2 JUS DO NY AND THEN YOUR FANS WILL COME BACK 2 YOU. MAKE NY MUSIC. IT'S NOT LIKE SOUTH LEGANDS R SELLING RIGHT NOW. DA MIGHTY OUTKAST(GREATEST HIPHOP GROUP OF ALL TIME) FLOPPED W/ IDELWILD. SO IT'S NOT JUST NY ARTIST NOT MOVIN UNITS. JUST COPPED THAT LUPE. SHYT IS REAL HIPHOP. 4 1/2 MICS. SO NY PLZ STOP BITCHIN'.

THE KING HAS SPOKEN

You guys are some fraternal ass twins...

Wow, you really put Rakim on that list?

*putting the bullets back*

Lets say this: As with everything else out here, you always have a choice. You aint feelin it, dont download it LOL....

@ rocky

E-40 is pure trash, with that bay area bullshit... he thinks he is so damn fly when he talks, but he sounds so effen dumb it gets on my nerves. I have never made this public, but htownmike DESPISES every bit of shit that comes outta the bay, except for too short, i couldn't go that far. Other than that the bay can fall off the continent as far as htownmike is concerned.

As far as the west goes...
The west isn't particular about who they put out...THE LABELS are particular about who they put out.

Ask any artist who was hot when Pac was alive will tell you the labels camped out there like they do in the South now. The west always had talent, and for real, more DIVERSITY than a lot of people give them credit for. Just because it's not on MTV or BET, it does not mean that the talent isn't there or they are all broke. Master P learned a few things about the independent hustle living in Richmond, CA.

Why are older artists appreciated on the west more?...First, there is an appreciation for the "O.Gs", but in the same token, the West has always been on that independent hustle because the major labels didn't give a shit. So the fan base is always there. Also, the artists themselves(outside the bullshit w/ Game) support EACH other by making music on some co-op shit.

So while people ASSUME the west has been gone, there's several NICE MCs who continue to make ALBUMS that SELL independently with out the help of Big Chain Records. So I completely disagree with the fact the west does not have a farm system.

Mac from No Limit

I hate rappers who hate other rappers for making it
Record labels be dickin niggas, niggas just be takin it
Fakin it with videos, with pretty hoe's and limos
But callin no limit tryin submit them fuckin demos
Fake ass niggas be hollin "keep it real"
I got family nigga, keep it real to them God damn bills
I give a fuck, bout hip-hop the culture of the call
This shit is watered down like a scene from jaws
I done been through all the phases,
Tampered with all the styles,
Niggas done soldier hated,
Mac retaliated
Tell them niggas in back with semi-autos
You dis me on wax, you might not see tomorrow
I'm like zorro, I mark d.f.m on they back
[and what's that] that mean don't fuck wit mac
They should've told you I was nothing nice
As a matter of fact they should've told you I was nothing nice twice
My rollie was dipped in ice, my g-ride was payed out
Crib was layed out before my record was out
Most of y'all go gold and never see a bank roll
A hundred g's in the hole cause you sold your soul
When your broke, your yellin at tru to hip-hop shit
I'm known damn well all you niggas tryin to get rich
East, west, middle, south nigga we all the same
We all speak the same shit but with different type of slang
So the next nigga talk about we country and weak
I hope his momma catch cancer and die in her sleep
What?

been listening to this hip hop shit since I can remember and there is nothing wrong with memories. Don't ruin peoples good memories of you by coming out and embarrassing yourself. I TOTALLY AGREE!!! Nigga I wanna have good memories of the ish I grew up listening to, they have secured there spot in this hiphop legacy so why fuck our eardrums up and take up space on the shelf? Please don't do it. Stay in retirement, it's ok. Move on niggas to bigger and better things.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

@ naj.

master p moved ot richmond, ca just so he could claim it... he's from louisiana, that just shows how fraud he is, however he did get paid so i can't hate. His son Romeo be goin' kinda hard every now and then.

We can never have our own "machine". We can barely live amongst each other without killing each other so what makes you think that we can do business together. There is reality and then there is fantasy and I think we are livng in a fantasy when we think that guys like PUFFY,50,JD,JAY all to get togther and put their ego's aside. This is entertainment and their ego are what got them there. Look at all the people the Jay has burned. Look at all the people Puffy has burned. We all get into this false sense of reality that the music world revolves around hip hop and right now it doesn't. Sure its grown bigger than anyone thought it would but record companies are not gonna fold just because 2 or 3 hip hop artist on their 30 act roster aren't selling. The "machine" is a billion dollar business and its business first regardless of how its done. That how the big wigs think and as long as we think along the lines that we do, this disconnect will always exist. Imagine what hip hop would be without Puffy ? What would it be without 50 cent ? We bash these dudes all the time but we don't look at what they have done for the industry. We take it a step further and say they should just all go out and form a company like its easy.

ihadnochoice...have you actually heard anything from Lord Tariq and peter gunz since Deja Vu?...so why are you so critical? You posted half of what I wrote, you would know I said "if the shit is good, by all means the game needs you"...

Give niggas a chance before you start throwin shit at them.

BTW...Dre produced Chronic 2001 SEVEN YEARS after the first one, and we are looking at 7 years between that and DETOX...if the music is good, it's timeless.

And Htownmike...on some real shit you might think the Bay is garbage, but while you post lyrics on a blog, them niggas is out hustlin and gettin paper off some lyrics that are no different from yours...so that pretty much takes your argument and places it firmly in the shredder.

I'm laughing at this "farm system" title. But, I see what both of you guys are talking about. The artist in the West HAVE to be selling independantly right about now. I mean, the GAME is the only one on the map as far as music goes. CUBE is doing movies, DRE is producing, X is switching up cars... Some one is selling on the low low, because the West Coast is still holding it down.

"Nigga I wanna have good memories of the ish I grew up listening to, they have secured there spot in this hiphop legacy so why fuck our eardrums up and take up space on the shelf? "

Okay. But in taking that position, arent you assuming they cant come out with something worth the listen?

:HTOWN
The only song I like from E40 is the "Sprinkle Me" joint. I am sort of feeling this "You and Your Booty" song, but I only like the chorus and the girl's part. I completely forgot E40 was on the track.

:DIG
As long as you are not C-Walking in unison...

People can say what they want about West Coast artists but they gettin' that paper. When you're independent, you're seeing a hella of a lot more of your money than if you were signed to a major label, so they grindin' for real. As far as E-40, I like him, his style, he has a different flavor, a different sound, take it or leave it.

@Naj, don't even waste ya time on htownmike, this is the same dude who said that Lil Flip was lyrically superior to Jay Z and you know I'm not even a Jigga fan.

Shout out to the bopsy twins!!

@ htownmike

Project are Projects. Aptly named for the experimentation on the populace than inhabits them. Fuck the Projects I'm from Brooklyn but I lived in queens bridge project till I was 14 that shit sucks regaurdless of where you at. I'm successful now and I can only speak for project people when I say the misery is enough to make you do anything to get out whether it be rhyme, crime, A ball sport, or a book. Anyone who has ever had to Iron a fuckin patch on the knee of their pants can tell you that. They are all equal in hopelessness.

P.S. Don't think I don't sense the cynacism in the sign statement either.

Mac from No Limit

Everybody's going trigger happy, wanting to blast
I remember we used to play ball and cut class
Now my niggas sport bulletproofs, clutching their gat
We all headed for hell, my grandmama told me that
Even now I'm going shell shocked, wanting to shoot
I was a little cool nigga to tell you the truth
They put the gats in the ghetto, them rotten motherfuckers
Wanted us to get frusterated and kill one another
Now we all beefing and it won't stop till we all sleeping
Everybody's got to die but why we point the finger at the white man
Nigga it's us killing us late at night man
So now I ask my God, is this the way of the world or just the hood niggas
My auntie said, Mac what happend to the good niggas
Am I a fool cause my heart be true
And I give a fuck about you and you
But they don't hear me

Flowers in the soap saying I felt pain
Through the eyes of the youth I envision your gain
My nigga Eric was young when he was caught up in the drama
Them niggas took his life right in front his baby mama
Was that God or the devil, that shit is so deep
It's hard to dig it with a shovel, now we on that other level
That's the tale of the ghetto, never change with the name
It's a constant war, nobody wins, everybody pains
Everywhere they hating
They got me sporting camoflauge when I'm misled, preparing on the armageddon
And everybody to blame for the supplies
To the vibes, little kids they caught up in the crossfires
Is this the way of the world or just the hood niggas
My auntie said, Mac what happend to the good niggas
Am I a fool cause my heart be true
And I gave a fuck about you and you
But they don't hear me

This is exactly what I am talking about. You say the machine messed it up but the machine has helped hip hop artist make more money than anyone could have imagined. ITS ENTERTAINMENT. ITS A BUSINESS. Since when has anyone ever mixed morals with business (besides our neighborhood preacher) and made money ? Its a business first. I don't turn on the radio to hear some nigga tell me what is right and wrong. I got my momma for that .lol. I don't think kids listen to it for guidance either. Its big business so we have to take it as such. No matter how many dudes sell their soul for the check, there will always be good music to listen too even if it ain't hip hop. I don't knock anybody for trying to make as much money as they possibly can. Thats what I wake up every morning at 5am for.

@ rocky

Yeah i tend to agree with you, it's a catchy song, i like the one he did w/ lil jon a little. I guess it's just the way he manipulates his voice when you know nobody talks that way, that gets on my nerves so much... like he thinks he cooler than steve earl

)speaking of machines)

Can I just say that I have to give props to PUFF. Just on the sole fact that he was the last label to sell to shay-whitey out of the major black labels that came up out of his era.

:HTOWN
I thought that song was Lil Jon's.

Are they feeling E40 in the bay?

Okay. But in taking that position, arent you assuming they cant come out with something worth the listen?

That's exactly what I'm saying, especially in the case of Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz. That one wack song doesn't even give them a small place in the hip hop legacy. They were a flop then and will probably flop when they try to reappear on the scene. We didn't wanna hear it then and I'm sure most people don't wanna hear it now. One hit wonder.

@Ihadnochoice

Money isn't everything. You can sell ya soul, hey that's between you and the higher Power, but YOU will be held accountable for your actions. It doesn't matter how much money they are making, it's still shucking and jiving.

I have heard alot of LORD TARIQ. I actually downloaded the "barcode" album and I have a mixtape by DJ THORO that he had some tracks on. I also have a few CORY GUNZ cd's that havge Lord Tariq all over it so I have heard enough of lord tariq. So I know where I am coming from.
The fact that you even compared DR. DRE to bottom feeders like LORD TARIQ says enough for me.
You are right about good music but Lord Tariq is just "aight". He isn't wack but "aight" won't keep you around for 10 years.

N-Site...lemme find out you in the building! Shit you already know, niggas like Yukmouth ain't go nowhere, he's still spittin that shit.

I don't get into the whole regional hate thing because I like all music from all over the place, but when niggas comment on the Bay, that shit bothers me because we KNOW most of the criticism is based on:
a) the whole Hyphy shit
b)how E-40 sounds.
but no one actually listens to the other shit out there. But let me say Houston hip hop is corny because of Lil Flip's Sunshine, a nigga will be quick to talk about Z-Ro or Face. I can't say ATL is shit because of Laffy Taffy because niggas will bring up Outkast...why be hypocritical then?

You don't have to like one nigga's sound and hate on a whole section of the country-that shit is just stupid.

@ big sun

--- don't think i don't appreciate where your coming from i do, i was just making an observation from an outsiders prospective that when compared to for instance projects or hoods in houston, ya'lls in new york are really well kept and nice. That's all i was saying. Actually i have been by a couple in person and they are comprable with non section eight, i.e. regular apartment complexes in houston.

Aye... I need some banging joints to get me through traffic today. I have a long way to drive after work. Any suggestions?

@ Naj, what's up Fam?

That's exactly right. Don't be so shallow as to write off an entire region because of one artist. E-40 is does not represent the Bay entirely! Just like DFB doesn't represent all of ATL. Seek out different artists before you just send them all to hell in a handbasket.

@ hell

That's true but let the soul seller deal with that. Money may not be everything to you but to alot of people it is. Money makes the world go round. You can have love from every angle but love don't pay the bills . Respect don't keep food on the table. You can't trade morals for child support. Niggaz rap to make money.. period. Its a job and no different.

I agree wit HELL, yall east coast fuks need to read this vintage no limit verse and understand that we been peepin your mindframe for decades:

What?

THAT'S THE 100% REAL...JUST MARINATE ON THOSE WORDS FAM, SON, GOD OR WATEVA YOU WANA CALL YOURSELVES AND YOU CAN'T HELP BUT ANALYZE YOURSELVES.

LYRICALLY, MAC WILL SMASH MANY OF THEM NIGGAS YALL HOLD IN HIGH LYRICAL REGARD....GO PEEP THIS OLD ALBUM AND YOU'LL BE LIKE DAMN, WHY DIDN'T P PUT THIS NIGGA ON THE FRONTLINES...

I was making a point about time lapsing...I don't need to argue with you, it's no point, that won't make niggas buy his shit, my point was...it does not matter how long it is between albums or "hits", just put out good shit...

I don't arugue with niggas on FightKlub (NYC blog) because no matter how many times you type shit, the point will fly over their head.

Furthermore, I was commenting on what Dig said about welcoming niggas back with the disclaimer "if they made good shit". Had you said you heard the Lord Tariq shit when you made your initial post, it would have made more sense why you were so critical.

@ htownmike

You talk of your experience as though you drove through the safari section at Great adventure. "It's so nice". They aren't comparable experiences are. It's a fucked up situation where ever your at. Live it and you won't say the same thing. You have clearly always been priviledged.

Nah.. I ain't on the arguing shit either. We are having discusssion. Like I said I am heavy into this hip hop thing and I listen to everthing just to hear where these dudes are coming from and for the most part its the same rhetoric from before. It not like their music has gotten better or they hooked up with somebody else to enhnce their sound. I came from the project and made it out so the last hing I need to hear is a grown ass man with platinum plaqques talking shit about how he is still in the projects. Get the fuck out nigga. You got Peter Gunz who's son Cory Gunz is Shaq's godson, and he got his ass posted up infront of the project like that some cute shit. Its just tired. That why cats like LUP are a breath of fresh air because these dudes are spitting the same shit over and over again. How many niggaz are you gonna threaten ? How many niggaz you gonna kil ? That shit is played out.

Niggaz rap to make money.. period. Its a job and no different.

Posted by: ihadnochoice at September 26, 2006 10:52 AM

I wasn't gonna say anything
especially since you feel so strongly

but that the problem
Music is a Artform 1st
the problem is we have a generation that justifies everything with a dollar!
Its the devils way of disguising whats really important!
The Artform is what's important. Its the foundation. This is supposed to be the sound and voice of the culture.
But we're so blinded by payola all we're doing now is making jackass out of ourselves in an effort to get paid and putting more money is some rich white mans pocket who could give a fk about us or the culture or the people that buy it. I hear what your saying but the artform comes 1st the problem is this is now viewed as a hustle instead of an artform. And people forget It was a artform first and people discovered that they could make money of it. Now muthafkers got it backwards and the money is coming first and artform is takin the backseat and we're letting white corp america control the content and quality of the music. This is what I mean by selling out. This is a large part of why there's no classic albums anymore. Cause we ain't got our priorities straight. The new generation isn't trying to put out art they're just trying to get paid. We need more artist to balance everything out and to take back our culture from white and corp america

just cause i gotta two story house don't attach that typical cliche to me... my life is hard, and that's real talk. Money don't by happiness, and harder if your parents are constantly arguing about dumb shit, i gotta slang mad to get the things i want if there not provided by my folks.

Rock...
About E-40, he's always getting play out there but so do other veteran artists. The Bay always support their own, good or not. Being in Philly, you never hear local artists UNTIL NY accepts them.

Biggest concert of the year and the roster is completely Southern (nothin wrong with that but damn, no local acts AT ALL?). As much as the Roots get love around the WORLD, you never hear them on the radio outside the mixshows or if they have a NY-approved hit. I'm quite sure that in NY (as many rappers have said) they don't see any radio time.

Some of it's payola but some of it's just a lack of support for your own.

:X
I am still asking you that question. Feel free to answer anytime. I just can't have a statement made about me without merit. But, I'ma cool out with it. Take your time. I just want you to know that I haven't forgotten your little comment above.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE SUGGEST SOME RIDIN MUSIC? I want to get my download on.

So I'm sure cause our blogs have the same exact time
dog did you mean this for me or for ihadnochoice

@ rocky

I understand... some of the borderline "racist" stuff was from me, i never go overboard as i respect all. I am not a racist, as i love all colors and creeds but i do maintain strong opinions... there was some stan sayin' gay shit under my name dropping the n bomb and getting the whole room on my ass... but like i told e fraze i can't argue with it cause i don't know who was doing it so it would waste my time.... i do have strong beliefs and always express my honest opinion. I like to hear viewpoints from all sides as i think it makes me a better/ more knowledgeable person... in the long run it will make me learn. Some of the stuff i say may offend some, but it simply makes for a healthy debate which i enjoy. That gay shit... not me. I respect your wanting to know though, as i would want to as well.

@rocky

"too many niggas" z-ro

:NAJ
Thanks for the answer on E40. But, about NY not supporting their own... I dunno. I think that for awhile now, it hasn't been our time to shine. I honestly think that we (NY) should fall back until the right moment. You can feel it in the air that it isn't our time. Look at all the releases that NY has had out. None really that good truth be told.

Posted by: Banga! at September 26, 2006 11:02 AM

Like I said before their is fantasy and there is reality. Its a fantasy to think that dudes take the artform 1st and money second. Niggaz don't put time, money, energy into this just for the critical acclaim. They ain't rappin for free.
The reality is that hip hop is a multi billion dollar industry.
The reality is that a lot of these artist come from poverty and they look at this as their way out.
The reality is that hip hop is all bling bling and fat asses and you can't tell a young kid who FANTASIZES about that to disregard it for the sake of "the art form" especially that most of the youngins werent' around when the artform was really the artform. They don't understand DJ'ing. They don't understand breakin and graffitti and the way we felt with the music back then.
ITS A BUSINESS NOW so we have to approach it like that.

I can agree with that too...
That's why a lot of shit comin from NY I can't get into, because it's not as deep anymore. I don't need African medallions but niggas ain't really complex with it. People appreciated Resonable Doubt for songs like "Regrets."

Biggie talked about some of the same shit you hear today but...the shit was lyrical, and had the otherside to that hustlin shit.

@ htownmike

Look son, you a young dude to me to I'ma school you real quick, You have parents that you can see argue. That ain't typical. 2 people provide for you not one. Like I said if you never had to Iron a patch on the knee of your pants before you wouldn't understand. Like treach said "If you ain't never been to the ghetto don't ever come to the ghetto, cause you wouldn't understand the ghetto" I am what I am today because i never want to have to sell, or rob anyone to get out. Cause if I can't get a job to make it I'm in your pocket cause someones in mine. you don't have the mentality to grasp the concept of real fuckin grinding. You may think you have any Idea but you have nooo clue. Ivgo back and visit my fam in jamaica and I really get on my shit because the level of disparity from them to how I had it is equidisant as you have it from where I was. You just can't understand it. So accept it.

nah it was actually for the XCLUSIVEBKBIATCH

Slum Village can't sell a recod but they got a deal with GM.
That's business talk.

Eve used the music to flip it into a succesfull TV show.

WILL SMITH... need I say more.

Even FLAVOR FLAV used his celebrity to get that paper.

This is the kind of moves business minded people do while sucker like LL and Method Man depend on other people to help them put money in their pockets.
These dudes took advantage of their situation and made good out of it.
This is where dudes like Lord Tariq miss the bus. They made a lot of money on that song but had to payback a record 150K because they didn't clear the sample of BLACK COW. This is the kind of business savvy ,or lack therof, that has them still standing infront of the project with platinum plaques on their wall.
REAL TALK

:HTOWN
Thanks for responding to that. I mean,. I wasn't here on Friday as I stated. However, I do have my opinion on it. I think that whenever you, as a white person, take the freedom to call out the word "nigger" (whether it be in a rhyme or to someone is specific), you are dead wrong. Just like I don't condone people calling you a "cracka" or what have you. People are going to say what they want, so I can't tell you what to do. I take offense though to what comments you made. I am black. So, since you admitted that you had some bearing on what happened and some of the racist ish that was said, I feel that you are just as to blame. It is to my understanding that the whole thing came about because you aked what an uncle tom was. Isn't that something that you could have just googled? Why come into a predominately black blog to ask that, unless you wanted to start something? That ws a rhetorical question. As I said above, I speak to you because I want to get your perspective on things. I am hoping that perhaps through dialog, you (and whoever else reads along but doesn't post) can understand our take on the things that you say. Thank you for the ZRo song.

Regrets is my favorite JAY Z song !!!!
Those 3 verses are untouchable in my eyes but that doesn't grasp people like it used to. The game has changed and it the artist that are able to change with the times that are still able to market themselves and be relevant. Obviously 2 million people believe in Rick ROSS and JEEZY even though alot of people don't ( both classic albums in my mind)

@hadnochoice

it became a business because we started selling out
its a business cause we are educating our kids to see whats really important
the understand the big picture.
Its not supposed to be a business
its supposed a culture
that's not fantasy, the reality is somewhere along the way we(our people) fk'd up and we need to educate our younger generation on whats really important. Everything not about a dollar. And that applies to more than just music. Yeah we always wanted the finer things, we always did but that never dominated the content of the music like it does now.
We always had the big dookie chains the fly cars and ladies in the video. But the music wasn't always just about that sht. We think this way cause muthfkers don't know how to raise their kids.
The fact that they don't know they're selling out and they just think everyone's hatin is poor parenting
that's not and issue that we can just say well things change
Thats a problem that has to be fixed.
I really see your point I just feel its a much much bigger problem
than people just want to get paid it goes deeper than that

This is the kind of business savvy ,or lack therof, that has them still standing infront of the project with platinum plaques on their wall.

This is our culture... The baggy pants... the cornrows.... the jewelery.... just like the graffitti... the breakdancing.....etc...
Hip Hop has always been a competition based industry and is hasn't changed. No mattrer how many people are out there selling their souls, there will always be artists that accept the culture aspect of it and won't sell their soul. We still got dudes like Common,Kanye,Roots, etc to get that message out. But their is a market for rap that trancends those acts. White people have taken to the music and once that happens, that where the money comes into play. Papoose just spuld his soul for 1.5 million. Would I do that ?? Hell fucking yeah at the drop of a dime, without a dime. Selling out to me is going to jail and becoming a slave for the system. If you wanna talk about selling your soul, thats sale that has no returns.

Emenem

Jada
Styles
Luda
Trick Daddy
Snoop
Mos Def
there are a lot more but these guys are NICE. They have earned the right to be around for as long as they have and that stands for a lot more than just getting hot off of one song.

@ rocky

I agree w/ you, i believe it is the same as in the bible, "iron sharpens iron" i take my perspective and sharpen it by learning from you all... and yes i asked what an uncle tom was friday, cause i really did not know, some cat said it in a comment and it made me think "hmmm i have always wondered what that meant, seems i'm in the right place to find out." so i asked he responded by calling me white boy and bein' all derogatory and it pissed me off cause i asked it very respectfully. In hindsight could i have googled it? yes. But i was of under the impression people in here liked to kick knowledge and wouldn't mind sharing with someone who didn't know... before i knew it the whole room had me backed into a corner... i said some things i shouldn't have, but i apologized. Anyways if you don't know Z-Ro, he will change your life... might i suggest every damn cd the man has every recorded, king of da ghetto, look what you did to me, gangstafied, all those old ones...

Regrets IS one of my favorite songs he ever did because it is something anybody can relate to regardless of their hustle.

But even Jeezy (although not as lyrical) has hustle in his speech, like you wanna root for that dude. He's talkin O's and Ki's and so forth but also being from the block and havin regrets about losing his people. Rick Ross got a lot of flack for Hustlin, but he's got a couple of real introspective songs on the album.

The veterans who were sucessful in the 90's and are complainin about young cats takin their spots should have had that same attitude. They ASSUME they can continue to make the same shit and be okay in the sales dept. It's a new game now.

I always give Kudos to Ice Cube who used his own money to promote and put out his last album independently. The young cats have a fan base from the independent hustle, so if they don't blow, they still have the streets. You would think that those older artists would learn from their predecessors and learn how to branch out. The major labels have 20-30 artists on their active roster, you can'texpect them to coddle you, if those said artists have hit singles.

No one learns from rule 4080.

Son u wasting ya breathe with that cracker. He's a lost soul.

I see we're going to have to agree to disagree
cause for me Selling out as a musician is compromising the content of your music. In this industry white people run it, college student that don't know sht about the music and culture are A&R's and are more concerned with climbing the corp ladder within the company. They don't know good music from bad music or a hit from wack track.
So they try to get every artist or sign an artist who will do whatever sells or is selling at the time. And we've adopted this mantality and its bull.
We no longer believe art can sell. So everyone compromising the music for sales. I all for getting paper
not no chicken noodle soup
no chain hang low
no dancing around in a suit
keep it real, be yourself

but when you stop being yourself,
sending messages in your music you don't support or believe in, when you stop honoring the artform for a dollar, your a sellout! If Papoose puts out a club record but does him on the track I'm all for it. But if I see him pull a puffy and put a bunch of European bitches in his video dancing in a club wit no black people around, he's a sellout. And he embodies whats wrong with our culture. He got his 1.5. I happy for him,now that your papers right put out some quality shit

"i was of under the impression people in here liked to kick knowledge and wouldn't mind sharing with someone who didn't know..."

:HTOWN
True. I guess you have a point there. A couple of blogs back I posed a question about community activism and I heard crickets. So, I see what you mean. And there are times when people try to back others into a corner. Like yesterday, I almost felt that way. I could have been mad slick with my words, but I fell back and cooled out. There are times when people jump on you about your ryhmes (btw, thank you for taking those elsewhere), but never have I. I have my own song in my head, so I never jumped on the wagon about your lyrics. I am saying all this in hopes that you get that I understand what you are talking about. However, it is never appropriate to sling out the word "nigger." I was conversing with someone about you yesterday. I couldn't help but to feel that if people hadn't known you were white, that they would be okay with you saying "nig" and all that. And though it isn't right, it is the truth. But, the fact is that we know you are. So, please refrain. I actually think that you speaking "normally" (?) shows that you have intellect. I prefer this HTown than to the "hard core- I sling dope- and smoke kush" Htown. Dig?

Anyhow. So this Zro Kat. I keep hearing about him, but haven't heard ish from him. And, are you sure that is the correct name of the song? "Too Many N----?" Can't find it.

I feel what u sayin' son but u named ni99as like, Method Man, LL Cool J, KRS One, etc. these dudes are LIVING LEGENDS, there is nothing gimmicky or one-hit-wonder-ish about them. Just giving my opinion.

James Brown is a living legend but ain't nobody paying to see him dnace and perform...
HIS TIME IS UP.
What is wrong with these guys time being up ? Retire.. move onto something else.
I have a lot of KRS to listen too but his best stuff is behind him. Why would I wnat to hear him any different than the best. I can't forget CRIMINAL MINDED and the PUSSY IS FREE. I can't forget LOVE GONNA GIT YA and JACK OF SPADES but he ain't putting out classic material. THe last album I heard from him was a fucking train wreck. It sounded horrible. I don't want that to be the lasting memory I have of him. Look at what Jordan coming back did to his image and legacy.

@anonymous

Cosign the paul wall bit. I know allota cats in here say i'm all on paul's nuts but i have NEVER made a comment that i liked his rap, i did know paul in high school and grew up in the same neighborhood as him, like i said i'm not gonna be some stan and say "ohhh we were best friends and all that gay shit" but fact is if i saw him today he would remember me, but that's were it stops, i'm not tryin to front like we were friends of something, so ya'll spare me the insults. Paul can/could rap, but he is a faker... is he nice, hell yeah super nice guy, but fake as a 3 dollar bill... all that bible toting to school stuff, it is true i saw it on many a day. He did have a hard childhood, but he is far from G... when we'd all play dominos at the lunchtable he'd be rappin' non stop on a life saving note, not this crap about the game he's on now, it's all fraud and made up... he ain't from southlea neither, he grew up in woodland trails, and desoto round antoine... he moved to the southside and suddenly started claimin' the south, which i still don't understand but that's him... z-ro arguably the best ever... paul wall, fake.

:HTOWN
Case in point... look at this comment

"It's young men like xclusive with comments like the above why the black race never takes strides and advancements..."

Why should one mutha implicate the whole race? Single his ass out. Because in no way does he represent the black men that I know.

Yo, ya man Clinton got on Chris Wallace and Fox News about their slant on the news. He flipped on the people swho say that he had a chance to get Bin Laden. He explained that when he was in office, he was the closest to getting Bin Laden, but people were saying that he was spending too much time on him. What else. Aw, man, he let loose. The quote that had me rolling was when he said to Chris Wallace,

"Yeah, I see that smirk on your face. You think you are smart."

That man ceased all smiling. Lol.

I said it was a classic album and I didn't cosign the lyrical content.
An album has more to it than just strait up rapping. Group Homes "Livin Proof" is a classic album in my mind because the whole thing was produced by Premier but them niggaz are prolly the worst lyricist that ever lived. Same can be said about Diamond D and the Pshycotic Neurotics album.. that shit was s uper classic but DIAMOND D isn't a great rapper by any stretch. Music is a lot more that lyrics dude.

I saw some of it too
and he was smirking

Bill was like
did you ask that question

he was we asked bush many question about bin laden
Bill leaned back in his chair was
but you didn't ask that question
did you

did you
no you didn't

I was dying like yeah you just got your card pulled
but I never got see more than 40 seconds of it if that
If you find it in its entirety let me know where so I can watch it to
I love watching republicans gettin checked :0)
cause they try to blame Bill for every fking thing

@rocky

I appreciate all you say... i will take it all to heart but i must digress and take this oppurtunity to bring one more fan to z-ro.

--- you may not find it... look z-ro on myspace music and a few people have sites about him where you can just listen to a few songs, as far as downloading i honestly can't help you as i'm not that computer literate and have never downloaded a song EVER...
I feel a responsibility to hip hop to bring z-ro to the forefront, those who hear him are fans for life, he is a true artist...I've always defined a good artist as a person who can bring LITERAL tears to your eyes in a song, and in the next track get you pissed and ag as all get out... that's z-ro, his life on wax, and the best lyrics, and crap i just can't type cause i'm too big of a fan. Put simply give him a couple cd's and a couple days he will change your outlook on life, it is more pain rap than anything so listener discretion advised, LOL don't listen drunk or nothin' till u get used to em' hahaha

Some i suggest looking for:

Look What You Did To Me

A Bad Azz Mixtape

King of Da Ghetto

Gangstafied
(a song on there called "tall tale of a g" in which he says how everybody wants to be a g and he raps a whole story about a shootout and nightmare and asks why everybody wanna be a g? one of the best ever)

The Life of Joseph W. McVey

Let The Truth Be Told

* Z-ro don't make a bad song.

:BANGA!
Honestly, I want that interview on dvd. I completely am kicking myself for not watching for the date and time. I wonder if they will rerun it. They got their asses handed to them in one interview, and I think that is sohh lovely. I am going to see if it is on any other websites. Let me go see if Fox had the balls left to post it.

NAS" ILLmatic" = Classic
Ghostface " Iron man" = Classic

You are absolutely right about those four.
But it takes more than the artist to make a classic album or any album for that matter. Check the producers and the collabbos on those joints.
I am also not a "regional" hater so I also consider albums like "The Fix" from Scarface a classic.
Aquemini from Outkast.... classic...
Ressurection from Common Sense... classic.

We all know those obvious ones you listed.

xclusive bk dude, are you addicted to blogs? Get a life you lonely broke faggot. And to that other fag writing all that gay shit under my name, you are truly a homo just like BK dude. Go get some pussy you fucking losers.

LYRICS WERE EDUCATING NIGGAZ WHO WEREN'T GOING TO SCHOOL AND WORKING JUST IN THE STREETS....SO FOR THEM TO EVEN LISTEN TO A HOV OR NAS THEY WERE LEARNING....NOW SOUTH NIGGAZ ARE TRYING TO DISRESPECT THE IMPORTANCE OF LYRICS CAUSE THEY NOT CAPABLE OF SPEAKING WELL....AND RAP IS BASED ON THE SPOKEN WORD....THIS IS WHY INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC LIKE JAZZ AND BLUES WOULD START IN THE SOUTH

THE SOUTH REPRESENTS THE SAME NIGGAZ IN AFRICA WHO HELPED CATCH OTHER NIGGAZ, THE HOUSE NIGGA MAKING LIFE HARD FOR THE NIGGAZ OUTSIDE......YALL SOLD THE GAME OUT. NO WONDER ALL YALL TALK ABOUT IS RECORD SELLS AND HOW MUCH MONEY YOU GOT....NEVER NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ACTUAL GARBAGE YOU MAKING....WHITE PEOPLE LOVE RAP MORE THAN EVER NOW CAUSE ITS NOT THREATENING AT ALL TO THEM NOW.

"Niggaz can't stand another black man/woman doing their thing. its fucking sad man and I get enough of it on this blog."

Co sign like a mutha. The hate on this blogs is apparent. Fools saying ish just to say it. People do not like to see another doing better. That's the whole crabs in a barrel mentality. I'm still wondering how I think I am better than people. I ain't never said that ish. What, because I am 24, have my own business, work at a great firm, also work in my chosen industry (radio), work hard to help my family... haters.

I'm starting to think that if I had a tatoo on my neck and gold teeth in my mouth and talk about sucking dick and smoking weed, and lived in poverty then I will be "keeping it real." Fuck outta here with that shit. I do me. So, I reap the benefit. Jealousy is a bitch. And that is what keeps our people back.

Lord Tariq is a one hit wonder and that hit was a decade ago so why is he the topic of the day? He's not what the game needs. He's more like the problem with the game. This bozo SOHH NYC is so in love with the BX he'll show love to any tired ass rapper from the BX. Show Queens some love for a change. You niggas talk about bringing NY back what about 50? Isn't he from NY? He is the biggest name in the game right NOW. Oh I forgot he's from Queens so he can't get props. NO matter who it is from Queens the hate is intensified for one reason or another. Murder Inc., Ja Rule, 50, LL, DJ CLue, etc. Doesn't matter, the haters on this site got nothing nice to say. Maybe you niggas identify with losers a lot better than you do with winners.

BTW, Smack from Smack DVD is from Queens too but of course you haters will overlook that. Give Queens our just due. We've done nothing but show niggas how to make money from Day 1. Respect that. Without Queens niggas would still be in the park spinning on their heads on cardboard boxes. LOL!

But thats the reality of it. Its nothing new. From the tribes beefing in Africa, to the fight for survival on the slave ships, to the separation of light and dark, to the gangs that exist today... we've been bred to segregate ourselves. The "man" doesn't have to do much now. But niggaz look at me crazy when I say fuck em all, let me hold down me and mine. I don't wish the next man any harm or bad luck but just stay away from me with that shit. The only thing I give a fuck about right now is me and my family. What exactly do you mean by best? Do you mean by how influential it was, by the quality of the music, or by how ahead of it's time it was?

For example, 2Pac's All Eyez on Me was his most influential album. It changed the rap game, but it was not his best work. Me Against the World was better.

Firast of to all these faggot southerners who keep bringing up Chicken Noodle Soup,That shit was made by a kid for kids.Where as Laffy Taffy was made by grown ass men fucking shuckin and jivin. So there is a big difference there. And if it wasn't for the south making that bullshit possible, chicken noodle soup wouldn't be here. The south took an artform that required lyrical ability and skill and made it something so basic and mediocre.I can't believe hip hop aint about lyrics anymore,Thats like rock song without a guitar.

I mean best or classic or whatever you wanna call your top 10. My top 10 were all albums that I have actually listened to in the past week or so. I left all the TUPAC and BIGGIE shit out because that was obvious. MY WHOLE TOP TEN WOULD HAVE BEEN PAC but I figured that would be obvious.

Back in the building...where we at? What I miss?

I'm a baller, and boss shot caller/ Sittin' on buttons smokin' rocks in impalas/ You could call me a G, but i've always been one/ Gucci belt buckle holdin' up da tommy gun/ I don't rapper for fun/ Son of a trick i rap for funds/ One day i'll be signed and be tha billboard number one/ I sell mad thangs to by big peekin chains/ Still holdin' it down wit a big ole panky rang/ In texas we gonna swang/ Rather it's dry or fixin ta rain/ People hear me rap and i drive girls insane/ They know i'm a thug, and straight sell alotta drugs/ And if my folks is squabblin' i leave and kick it with tha thugs.

Well there are a lot of "local" rap artists from DC but they don't play that ish on the radio, we bump Go-Go which is very successful in our neck of the woods...I think the closest people from DC to "makin it", if that's what you want to call it would be Section 8 mob, but wtf happened to them, who knows, LOL

@XBK...

Aight...I'm back out...I'll holla when the topic changes.

@ihadnochoice

Alright then nigga, I got you. I'm from Atlanta, so no Kast, Goodie Mob, or T.I.

(In no particular order...)

NWA - Straight Outta Compton
Z-Ro - The Life of Joseph W. McVey
UGK - Super Tight (Ridin Dirty would be too easy)
Big Tymers - How U Luv That Vol 2
Snoop Doggy Dogg - Doggystyle
Dr Dre - The Chronic
Eightball & MJG - On The Outside Lookin In
Scarface - Untouchable
Projet Pat - Mista Don't Play... Nah Ghetty Green

Shit that was hard. I didn't even get to mention Ice Cube. I need a top 20...

:NSITE
Naw, ma. Wasn't coming out the side of my neck. When I say things, it usually is for a reason. But, to answer your question, that comment goes specifically to X and any others who say that I have changed up. Yesterday, Big Up said I thought I was high and mighty or some ish. I mean, I am who I am, and I make no apologies for it. Just like people on here are who they are, and have whatever accomplishments they have.

It still boggles my balls and mind how dudes can just segregate music like that. The is wack shit coming from everywhere. As far as Chicken Noodle Soup goes... it was made for kids by kids. I would rather have my little cousins listening to that than the other shit out here. Niggaz is so focused on separating each other that they miss that whole point. Chicken Noodle Soup is no different than "ROW DE BOAT... ROW DE BOAT... Signal the plane...." reaggea bullshit. Every genre of music has a "chicken noodle soup". Rock had "achy breaky heart" ...etc.
Yall niggaz really need to get out the house.. or better yet... your city every once in a while. The world is bigger than your courtyard and the bodega.

Who on here uses AIM? Or whatever else? I got accounts with them all so it doesn't matter. Holla at me...I'll setup a room or something.

Scarface - Untouchable

Oh yeah, and I'm a female, so no gay shit, LOL

I realized i deleted on and forgot to replace it. I'll add in it's place:

Jay-Z - The Blueprint 2

@N-Site

I think I played Mista Don't Play so much I don't like it anymore lol. They both were good cds, but Ghetty Green was a little more hard core than Mista Don't Play. I don't know I guess it depends on my mood.

"sometimes" is the only song on there worth it. He blamed the bad album on his father passing. I figured that it would be a better album because of that but dude still yaps about nothing

I thought the Massacre was a bad album until it grew on me but by no means is it a classic.

But there is one album that I am lucky to be alive for..... Big Noyd.. "episodes of a hustla"... lol.

Boss Hogg Outlawz - Boyz N Blue
C-Murder - Bossalinie
Big Tymers - Hood Rich
B.G. - Checkmate (he was ready to leave Cash Money, plus he was on that herion that album)
Spice 1 - The Black Bossalini
TRU - Da Crime Family

and ANYTHING Brian McKnight made after Back at One

Snoop's Doggfather was aweful. When I was in high school it was so bad, I stole it, then gave it back.

Juvenile's Project English was given to me. I gave it back for my burned copy of UGK.

The all time worst has to be Archie Eversole. The only reason I even bought it was because the whole cd was only $5.99, and I wanted his single.

And I don't care what you say... every nigga has bought at least 1 Ja Rule CD and just don't want to admit it.

Hello everyone. I guess I'm gonna be the only one on topic right now. But yeah... Lord Tariq still has it. It's just a matter of him breaking out and getting the connects with the right people. I'm feelin that track "It Won't Stop," and "Sunshine" that shit is hard. He's better than MOST and I repeat MOST of these half ass rappers right now, so if THEY can do it, he can most definitely do it. Fuck outta here... nigguhs have NO faith which is why NY artists don't sell. We have the biggest population in America and nigguhs straight out of the boroughs can't move units. Come on what's really going on.

Big ups to Tariq, the whole Militia, and damn that lil nigguh Cory can get it but he look a hot mess without his fitted. Nigguh look bangin with the fitted on though. Vanilla ice cream fo sho that's whassup. Too bad he got a forehead like his father. But anywayz.

I just remember giving that sht away

and 50's the Massacre grew on me too
after 3 listens I was feelin it
especially track 14 and ski mask way
theres some real hot jts on there
I just thought it didn't meet peoples expectations

the lovemovement that sht sucked!
I'm airing it out today

Alright then niggas, since you wanna go there...

What was some of the WORST lines you've ever heard in a song? Even if the song was tight, but the line was dumb as hell.

And you can't be biased and leave out your favorite artists.

My personal favorite was Project Pat

"You can put a wig on a piggi-let/Make it dance a jiggi-let/Bring all the money home to daddy and I'm diggin it"

I love that line to this very day...

This bring NY movement is not about the south, the only time we think about the south is when we wanna come scoop your woman up when we in town so relax. NY cats ain't worried about you. What we are worried about is the coonism coming on the radio that's got men and woman smiling extra wide showing grills, snappng their fingers dancing like those old racist looney toons cartoon

I second that but!!!

Nothing worst than them coons shoulder leaning and snapping there fingers. Sad to say they all came to the (A) quoting every verse from Lil Kim and Foxy Brown . Now its all about its going down. Talking about those from Crown Heights, St Johns Eastern Pkwy, silly a$$ ones from Red Hook that you can have back with there slow a$$ hustle mentality, got to get me a willy n199@. The ones from one Linden From the BK to Queens. From th 60's all the way to the 160's from Madison to that rat infested park, you know the name. Have you heard his new cd? Man, THAT SHIT IS STRAIGHT FIRE!!!!!

The Monster was columbia's fault. That's why Killer Mike is going the independant route. Right after Monster he dropped "Dat Crack". He's tired of waiting for the majors to get their shit together, OutKast included.

LOL. Yeah I got some last night. Now I'm paying for it. My eyelids feel like they weigh 100 pounds each!

htownmike:

That wasn't me. That was that cat Chevy Jr. I wouldn't even waste my time freestyling with you lil man. With that said, take note...this is my last time acknowledging you. So don't speak my name.

slimgoody:

It was this nigga in this club called Frozen Paradise trying to holla at Trina. This was around the time that "Pull Over" first came out. It was her and 4 other chicks. This nigga steady trying to holla at her. So she eventually told the nigga "she was too good for him." This nigga threw a Moet bottle at this broad and knocked her ass clean out her seat. That was funny too. She ain't been back since.

Lyrically, hes one the best hands down. Hip Hop needs guys like this!

The bottom line is being or becoming relevant, which becomes the ultimate challenge for an artist. As a "Bronxite" I support Lord in his travels to re-surge. I say that to say check out a group that I believe still has a viable lane because they were always different...... "CAMPLO".

He's not going to drop Ghetto Extrodinary anymore - Purple Ribbon is shelving it for now. He recently dropped a new double cd called "I Pledge Allegiance To The Grind". That shit is straight fire man.

I think he's selling it on his myspace page.

TEXAS BABY!

@ Big Sun

Shut up with that "coonin, showin grillz" bullshit. Yall complain about how it allways is a North vs South blog but then take subliminal shots at us.

So let's bring NY back right?? lets talk about drugs and guns and gettin it poppin in the club, and chicken noodle soupin....oh wait that's what the south is banking in the industry with....i know lets just make it ours with wack production and complext wordplay. we'll show them southern coons what real hiphop is!!

See that's what the other coast don't understand about yall NewYorkers. yall rap about crack and guns and hoes, then the west and south and midwest perfect it, all of a sudden it's "coonin".

So let's just get this straingt:
New York hiphop is not "Real Hiphop", so when yall talk about bringing it back, don't ONLY associate yall's shit with the real shit cause there's real shit goin on all over the place.

Best album of 2006. In my opinion.

Also, If you're a mixtape fan, you should check out:

Chamillionaire - Tippin Down 2005
Young Jeezy - The Streetz is Watchin

That was Jeezy's first mixtape. That cd is how me made a name for himself. It's better than Trap or Die, and it's easier to digest than Thug Motivation if you like that gangsta rap mixtape sound.

My bad duke. I've been trying to download that sucka from Limewire for like two weeks now. No dice. They aint given up nuffin. All I got so far is, "Thats Life" "The Juggernaut" and "Imma Shine" I heard a snippet of "HNIC" and that shit sounds incredible. I havent check out the Mom & Pop store yet. I'm sure they got it. If not then I'll just cop it from his myspace then. Good Looks on that.

This album has been a long time comin for him. I know he has alot to say.

@ disrespect

the mule, is a decent song, but i wouldn't recommend it if you are looking to quote unquote discover z-ro... one night is a good recomendation... and the mule is worth download but @ ROCKY don't think that's what ro is, ro has been slept on so long he is on this tip he's gotta make slightly more commercial appealing music to get discovered, but the mule isn't what ro's style is all about... would you agree with that disrespect... and i agree on the purchase tip... z-ro is the only cds i buy anyways

Lupe's shit is tight but there is nothing on there that is AMAZING but its a good album that you can listen to throughout. He reminds me of a mix between Q-Tip and JAYZ/Nas... Not as nice as them but on that type of vibe. Enjoy him while you can because the mainstream will make him a different artist in time...

@ Banga!

The new Luda is hot. But he still seems like hes capable of more though.

:QUE
See. I know exactly how you feel. I got my long overdue in 2 weeks ago, so I am good. Lol. But I was smart, I got mine in on a weekend. Twice. LMAO. That ish was like letting a dove fly free. Sunshine and all. I'm glad you got some.

I am only trying to get some songs for my little roadtrip this afternoon. Different artists. That's why I asked for riding music. But, he is the only one throwing out songs... so it's looking like ZRo on the disc

@quE

You can order his cd online right now, but the album doesn't hit stores until October 31. Check his page:

http://www.myspace.com/grindtimeonline

I would love to give people a copy, but my copy came from Killer Mike himself, so it would kinda mess with my conscious bootleggin' that man's shit ya know?

@sizzle

Yeah a lot of the NY artist do rap about guns, drugs and hoes. You're absolutely correct but do you understand how that came about? It was in direct response to the popularity of West Coast gangbang music ushered in by Ice Cube, NWA and others. We in NY had no gangs at the time so our equivalent was the drug trade. That was OUR source of despair. I don't condone it but I wanted to point out how IGNORANCE gives birth to even more ignorance and yes it's ALL cooning in some shape or form.

Prior to the success of NWA or 2 Live Crew the negative images that have become synonymous with rap weren't permitted on TV and the lyrics frequenting our radios were unheard of. As much as we blame the white man never forget it was black men who we celebrate to this day that facilitated the degradation of our people because we're so blinded by race. Only NIGGERS could put out that kind of music and get away with it. The white boys gave us Public Enemy (Rick Rubin)How crazy is that?

For as good as a lyricist as LUDA is, his albums are never that great. None of em are bad but he should step his album game up a bit.
I am listening to "future thugs" with Luda, Ghost and Redman right now.... goddamn them niggaz killed it...

Luda is lyrically a beast but he don't put enough into his albums...I wish the nigga would take a couple of years and put together a classic(which we all know he's capable of) instead of just dropping albums just to drop them...

And Kiss of Death was a solid album....I dont care what nobody say...I'm listening to it right now...

Lyrically, Kiss was flawless throughout the whole album...Flawless!

Yes my poor twelve dollars and 89 cents. Coulda bought me a couple of mixtapes with that. Fuck outta here. What does she see in him anywayz...

I've met dude like 3 or 4 times before, but I don't know him. Just typical shit about 2 niggas being at the same party. Asked him about his album, but that's about it. I really didn't say much to him cause that isn't my style. I was letting him do him and I was doing me.

PEACE OUT ROCKY!

I am only trying to get some songs for my little roadtrip this afternoon. Different artists. That's why I asked for riding music. But, he is the only one throwing out songs... so it's looking like ZRo on the disc

---that's what htownmike like's to hear

@ disrespect

You ever jam freestyle kingz back in the day??? i know a couple still doin' they thing but collectivley what happened???

later rocky

@ ROCKY:

LMMAO!!!!!!!! Your right! Blue stars, Purple clovers and all that! But unfortuantly my experience wasnt as beautiful as yours. The only thing I saw was my clock reading 4:40 am, so I was like," ...... damn! time to wrap it up, I gotta be up in 3 hours!!" LOL.

Posted by: Disrespect at September 26, 2006 04:32 PM

My method is simple...if that shit is wack, the only harm done is the bandwidth I wasted downloading it. If it's hot, I buy it. I understand that a lot people who know how to get music or whatever free do it just because.

I encourage all of yall to Google it...downloading doesn't (that's right DOES NOT) hurt CD sales. You're being fed bullshit. That doesn't excuse downloading but you feel me.

Tariq is that nigga

I was watchin' the sunset with my girl yesterday, listenin' to make the song cry, and got emotional like whoa... ahahaha, i couldn't help it and my chick was clowning on me.

AIIGHT ROCKY! BE SAFE ON THAT ROAD MA!

@ IHADNOCHOICE

You forgot, 'P was the first nigga with a gold ceiling!!! LOL!

I've always thought that Master P doesnt get the credit or respect he deserves. I never thought a NYC cat would admit that though. Thats wassup!

I fucks with SOHH NYC! I can tell theres some "Grown Folks" in here.

Posted by: quE at September 26, 2006 04:27 PM
------------
Nah... I'm a hip hop head so I listen to it all. My favorites are most likely from NYC and sorrounding areas but I understnad that hip hop is different according to location because we all go through different shit. P had his place just like all of em do. NYC niggas are all into lyrics and its understandable but music is music and even the best lyricist can put out a wack song so I don't see why a wack lyricist can't make a hot record. P had the business snese and that has to be brought to the light because these niggas nowadays don't have any type of marketing skills. You see these dumb ass niggas talking shit about another region.. little do they know they would be cutting holes in their pockets if they were artist. Green means the same no matter where you reside nigga.

And this is wear I exit. This is the real Chevy G. Hustle...signing off.

This is Georgia talking!

@quE

It's so hard to compare, and this is why:

1)Trap Muzik was a better music, but this album has a better message. He also diplays a lot of unknown acts in his group, and they show potential.

2)When Trap Muzik came out, the game was much different. It was T.I.'s first cd as a real artist. Also, it wasn't that the quality of work in the rap game was so much better - it was that the bullshit didn't make it through.

This album dropped when we are literally starving for good music. He has his gangsta tracks, but what seperates him is the tracks with a purpose. He has a song about Oprah and Bill Cosby, and what they're NOT doing for the black community. Has a song about young cats wanting to be dope boys and not knowing what they're asking for. Makes refernces to gas prices, corruption in politics, his own labelmate dissing him - everything.

He even has a song called The Next Bitch. That's like his version of Jay-Z's "Dear Summer".

X

I was talkng 2 SLim and N-site about me tearing up on that shit yeasterday morning. Yo the joint is emotional, kid....I mean like I told my son I am not a pussy but the shit does touch, U.

Check it out, B.

One of you niggas seriously need to start a members only rap blog. Maybe have everyone get messenger or something.

A hip-hop mailing list? Shit something. The name stealing is kinda lame

@ RapIsAlive

Man I was thinkin the same thing my nig. You cant compare albums that come out now to albums that came out 5 (plus) years ago. We are defenitly in a totally different climate right now as far as Hip Hop goes.

Cats used to put their heart and soul into an album. Every track didnt have to be a single. Every song didnt have to be "radio friendly." If it was hot, it made it to the radio regardless. Now cats are forcing each song to be a "radio hit." and the album suffers from that.

You'd be lucky to get 5 good tracks from a album nowadays.

The is me the real BigUP2BK

I am out

These blogs be funny as fuck. Lord Tariq is old as hell how are you gonna bring NY back? It's bad enough sooner or later Peter Gunz will be a grandfather. HANG IT UP. Why do niggas place blame on other niggas for their fall off? Yea some NY niggas got a spark but yall all rap about the same shit. "I'll clap at ya moms and throw ya dad off a bridge, fuck around and get hit with a fridge" dont nobody wanna hear that shit nomore. For example, Jim Jones went from cartwheeling in "Horse & Carriage rmx" to being a blood to looking like a fake ass biker. Who is supposed to take you serious? If these rappers feel like they are falling off they should step it up 100 notches. Lord Tariq i have nothing but respect but sign up for social security asap my dude. New York is done. Y'all did it to yourselves.

i just wanted to mention i think the west and south is pretty cool with each other but in case people wanna talk about how the south cant rap and shit let me lay some rape history on you theere was a dude who was involved with writeing a lot of songs for nwa and snoops frist album and the cronic key players in the whole gangagsta rap shit ,he even had a single of his own that was pretty populer all the shit he was involved with was classic shit in the west and he basicly was the only other niggas dr dre trusted as far as his ear for good music goes that dude was none other then the D.O.C many thought he was from the west but he was born and raised in dallas texas just some info i would like to point out for you east coast niggas who be on the west dic like they cosighning your hateing on the south, when in actuallity the south and west been fucking with each other for a long time in fact snoops actualy family is from the south now that i think about it you can tell by his swagger that he got a lil southern roots

I'm 32 y.o. born and raised in Memphis10. I love the south, but i HATE that snap shit (super Gay), and I'm tired of cats taking about trapping (how much dope can we sell).

All of hip hop is dead. NY is dead, the south is almost dead. the major labels and radio are killing hip hop. THEY are the ones trying to keep US apart. THEY are the one who are segregating the music.

The Major labels are playing us both.
