The Fake vs. The Real

Diddy's "Come to Me" has a hold on me…everything from the beat, the hook, the rapping and the dancing that goes with the video. All of these elements are very different in their ways yet they're all very much the same: They SUCK.

This song is one of the most terrible I've heard take over airplay so far this year, and it ranks right next to "Laffy Taffy" and "Betcha Can't do it Like Me." How did this wack song take over the airwaves? It's too garbage for program directors to automatically want to add it to the top rotation radio list, yet it made its way right into heavy airplay. Not to mention that the joint practically bought out BET's daytime slot and stepped into "106 and Park's" countdown (watch it hit No. 2 in a few -- kids ain't really voting for that garbage, b). This is simply cash flow at its best.

This song makes me sick.

Now don't get me wrong. I liked Diddy when he was real... When he was Puffy. I was feelin' the Biggie thing, the Mase days, the early Mary J., all that. But times have changed and now the industry has been turned into a robotic demon, and pimping the radio as a means to brainwash listeners into falling for a (wack) joint is one of its characteristics. A lot of people have been buying into this scheme, getting the game all twisted up; a lot of these songs you think are in constant rotation because they're good. But the truth of the matter is that most of this music is trash, a way to make a dollar, and there is absolutely no love involved when putting the music together.

crazylegs.jpg

The historical Rock Steady Crew's Crazy Legs said in an interview with the renowned journalist Davey D years ago:

"Puffy -- he does what he does. I'm not gonna front, there's music that he does that I'll be dancing to and just having fun. You do need that type of music when dancing with a honey. I think it's all valid, but then it gets to a point where people should admit if they're really down with Hip Hop or just down with the industry."

So which one are you?

First of i'd like to say that i see wat u try to say...but at the same time, nigga stop frontin'...wat diddy's doing is called entertainment...seems like a lot of people don't understand the meaning of that word...you may not like it but plenty of peeps do (me included)...as for the concept of hiphop...well u can forget that too, that's shit went down the day run dmc made that track with them white boyz...if anything, diddy brings a little class to hiphop...some sort of entertainment value into it...and i believe we should praise him for that!!

^ Praise Diddy?

LOL

LOL

that whole statement was unacceptable.

Since when is a display of skill whether lyrical or musical have to be entertaining. I remember when MC's ripped mics so the people could walk away mesmerized by the words they said. Nobody was dancing or partying. Usually, once the rhyming or dj-ing started the party was on a pause, cause the crowd was into the skill set on display. Now, I admit it is a different day, heads just want to Party and Bullsh*t, (no skills required) props to Diddy for capatalizing, but he's soooo far from hip hop its comical.

Diddy smh... he's terrible, he should have never of picked up a mic, who evers ghostwriting for him now, can you please stop? Even though i'm sure the paychecks nice...but please stop! That new song of his is trash too! WTF?

Bad Boy Baby

"Why would you want to destroy something you helped build?"

$20 to the dude that knows who quote that belongs to:

Anyway Puffy is a capitalist plain and simple only thing he love about hip-hop is all the money it makes him. It's ironic bcuz back in the day pre 1996 when hip-hop 1st started blowing up cats were getting raped by these big ass record labels signing bullshyt contracts, no publishing rights, and only pennies and cents off each album sold. And what did our people do???We cried and we wanted a fair share in what we produced and marketed.

post 1996-2006
After all the fighting by artist to control their product and receive a larger share in revenue what does our people do???We complain that the music is trash and it ain't as good of a quality as it was back in the day. Although I agree with that what I don't understand is why can't we have both. Why can't artist make more money off their music than they ever did before and still produce the classic hip-hop we once loved??? Somebody give me some answers.

PEACE!
BROOKLYN STAND UP!

its just not alot of selection.
i mean that dude on Cassie song, i think its called "Kiss me" he put it down!
he didnt kill it!
he rapped for the beat and what she was talking about. it went perfect together!
its just not alot of selection is the issues....
people aint cranking out hit after hit after hit!
artist are scared to come out cause they think they aint gonna sell!
and record execs agree!
i think we need more diverse artist out!
ex. roots (like) nas (like) talib (like).
were mainly over most of these artist but someone that can give us that feel thats new would be accepted i believe!
puffy is still chasing (though its worth it) the dollar of `95!

Eminem's Quote keep ya $20

Odhis what's hood my dude?

I'll let you know if your right by 12:00 don't want to give the answer away too early feel me?

Can you say PUFFY PAYOLA. Comming in at number 1 for 16 weeks and row is Diddy with "Come to Me". Audience YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! All the teeny boppers go crazy! Richard Colón now that's a real hip hop icon. Dude was crazy with those floor movements.

reason why hip hop is dead... its dead because yea we had a few commical songs played a lot before 1999 but they had some style but once the real hip hop sometimes known as hardcore hip hop with rappers such as wu tang and big pun.came about no body like commical rap everybody was dissing diddy and any commical rapper, so the big labels got fed up and payed radio stations video channels not to play the hardcore rap cause commical rap was being diss, reason why they did that cause think about it if all they play is wack commical music thats what people will only buy.so when you hear wack songs like laffy taffy or that shoulder lean song,, like every sec its cause they label payed to play that more than others witch is highly illeagel .the commical labels were getting diss back in 1999 when real hip hop was being notice , so the labels got together and payed radios not to play the real shit.. and thats sooooo fuc up,, and thats the truth.anything else its just hood talk with no basics.

That Diddy song sucks major ass. Ladies and gentleman that is what you call payola at its best. BET will let anybody buy them out. When I saw that video I felt embarrassed for Diddy. Dancing and shimmying around like some fool. The lyrics are horrible, the dancing is horrific, and the video is just plain dumb. I was still waiting on Yung Joc's lameass to pop up though, you know him and Diddy are joined at the hip as of lately.

wanna save hip hop in one easy step call the irs on the djs ,radio stations, and video networks for getting payola from rappers to play their songs more than others...do it now !!!!!

There is a guy who is getting major loot and still keeps it hip hop.

His name is West.

LOL...I was just saying last night how Joc has the same elementary school sounding flow on all his songs. Seriously, he may have the worst flow in rap today.

Young Cock is pure trash!

Diddy is not hip hop Diddy is pop and that is official- just b/c he bust verse every now and again don't make him hip hop - he is there for pure entertainment I play "Come to Me" when I am exercising but when I want to hear real jip hop and something that inspires me I like to hear Lupe - Daydreaming/I Gotcha/Kick,Push or Kanye - Get'em High/Spaceship/Jesus Walks or Common - Faithful/The Corner/The Food - that's the real deal.
Everybody knows Diddy makes dollars and he don't make sense -- believe that.

Not "jip hop"

That would be "hip hop"

Sorry for the typos

ITS NOT HIP-HOP ITS RAP MUSIC

none of these artist right now are trying create art. their after the dollar and thats it.Its why all the music sucks. Look the old school heads always said the hate commercial rap
and thats what we have now. A ton of Commericial rap. Epmd said beware the crossover, tribe called quest said their not selling out. They were trying to preserve the artform so labels and corp America wouldn't ruin the culture, the music and the Artform. Now we have a ton of Rappers and no hip-hop artist.
Nothings wrong wit rap but people need to realize the music they put out is only a attempt to sell records. Not a attempt to make good music. Which is why none of these artist have anything real to say. It's cool to listen too every now and then but after a while the ish gets play'd out and you move to something else. Real Hip-hop music is timeless never gets old.

Diddy why u cant keep no one on ur label for example:Total,112,Loon,Dream,Faith,Mary J,The Lox,Mase,Lil Zane,Black Rob,B5,Da Band oh shyt Danity Kane..... do u see a pattern here?Ur next DK.This nigga can start a Rucker team with all the ex Bad Boy members.I would love to see this clown get his ass molly whopped by Suge Knight, and I'd be the dude to run back while everyone walkin away and kick the last of his teeth down his throat.P.S. I hate u Diddy u killed HipHop Bytch

What can U do about this bullshit? the labels have spoken, they want "Dummy Music" on the radio because they don't want these teeny boppers 2 think of nothing else but flossing, beefing and acting like a complete jackass, U think that Pussy, I mean Puffy song is horrible, wait'll U hear the other one he did called "Get Off" the nigga jacked James Brown's style of, wait, does James Brown call what he does singing on his songs? if so, that's what Puff is doing, that nigga jumped the shark when Biggie died, shoulda been him in that suv on 3-9-97.

I never bootleg GOOD artists. So I'm with you on that.

my 2 cents......
I am patiently waiting 4 that new Method Man 2 drop, he has my 12.99 when it comes out
WU TANG 4EVA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dunno. I like the song. I think that there are just some songs that we need to have. Not everything needs to be hardcore. I like that PUFF brings a certain club element to the scene. He comes from dancing. I wouldn't believe him if he came out on some shoot em bang bang. He does what he does. I don't think he's hurting or helping hip hop.

Xclusive BK Dude:

Hey luv. What up? I had stop buy and put my 2 cents in. I had to special order that Loso's Way and Pun's Capital Punishment but I picked up Ryhmefest and Pun's Yeah Baby. Now I am feenin for Lupe - Food and Liqour is my kind of party :-). I gotta pick up Outkast's Idlewild today - I have very CD they ever did and I still kill Aquemni in my car - rapping is cool but hip hop is so different - and somewhere along the way everybody wanted to bust a verse - Madonna/Gwen/Diddy (the new one)/K-Fed- but that don't mean it's Hip Hop - we gotta stop denegrating the name. Call it what it is - Hip Hop tells a story in metaphoric poetic pieces that make you listen over and over to make sure you get the story right - radio and tv has been sleeping on Hip Hop - eeerrrthing wants to be hip hop but it is not - it is mostly Pop - calling it like i see it.

Xclusive BK Dude

Paps real hot shit is his older mixtapes

Beast from the east (This is just raw ass lyrics)
Threat and a Promise
A Bootlegger's Nightmare

But I have to check out that fab mixtape your speaking of

What up Rocky,

That is true. Diddiy song is a club song. I like it b/c it is classic of the new Diddy. I hate what he did to 8Ball and MJG but at some point music buyers gotta get off that band wagon. Diddy has some elements of hip hop in him but he put that on hold to capitalize on the moment and at the moment teeny boppers are fawning over white chocolate and everybody's got's their hand in the cookie jar. This ain't hip hop this is pure Pop!

I'm definitly gonna cop that new Method Man. Just for the fact he ain't getting no promo.

Can't wait for Redman though.

KHS

Just go to that link to download fabs mixtape.

That Dude 4 President

Co sign on the Method Man! My ipod is gonna be on fire when I am done for the summer.

KSH,
Television has been using Hip Hop 2 sell products for a while, therefore, the media never sleeps especially if it's something they could profit from, look at the NFL, they won't let another Hip Hop artist do another Super Bowl Halftime show after that faggot pulled out Janet's titty, yet they will use Hip Hop songs 2 go into commercial breaks, or when they're doing a feature on a player, same thing with the NBA, they won't let A.I. or anyone else who loves Hip Hop wear what they want 2 wear 2 the games, meanwhile, the owners of these teams probably have children who dress the same way, what is so mencaing about somebody wearing jeans, Tims and jewelry on the sidelines? now it's at the point where these labels tell the artists what they can rhyme about, or what image they can portray.

DAMN MORE JEWELS!

Sweetheart I like yo style and that Outcast is definitely in my site as well, I'm also feenin' for that new Ludacris LP. And Lupe is a problem I'm hoping he link up with my dude Chamillionaire on a track that'll be crazy! Yes hip-hop ain't dead its just pop is whats hot right now and unfortunately the people making the pop tunes are the same complexion as me and you so it gets misconstrued as being hip-hop. Talk about racial profiling!

just dont listen to the damn radio and quit crying.

You dropping gems yourself and I love jewels...you get exactly where I am coming from just b/c "we" are making the music and our name is on it don't mean it is hip hop - 75% of these niccas are pop right now. So they keep saying that hip hop is evolving - NO NICCA - hip hop ain't changed - artist have!

I like Luda too. His beats are crazy.

I like that everyone on here that feels the real hiphop(i'm bumping Das Efx right now...oh the good old days..*sees wavy lines then snaps out of it*) is feenin fo the new Meth....

all i pray is that it's not like the last one coz that ish....the prequel....was absolute rubbish n i was so let down.....I only bump the joint that had Ghost on it...went kinda like....

woke up in the mornin like 10 a.m/ walk past the listerine/ went straight for the gin/ osama bin laden on my chinny chin chin/ yo Meth the mailman/ yo Ghost let him in/ will u sign mr.ghostface/ package fo yo friend yeah/

that joint was a problem i always played it on saturday mornings when i would wake up still drunk....

i need that n not the other songs he put on there..

PAMOJA!!!

No prob! I'm downloading now as we speak. Xclusive BK Dude keeps referencing it so I'm gonna see what's up

@ Xclusive

I got Loso's way

Just the intro freestyle alone was enough for me
but Some Say is the sickest joint
or the one wit Paul Cain and Biggie

don't know if you feeling G Unit
doesn't really affect me
but Banks last mixtape is sick too.
hiphopgame gets alot of xclusive ish on their site before it hits mixtapes

Odhis

Das Efx was the shit! Dead Serious was the album man

Peace to Rocky, That Dude for president, KSH, Xclusive BK Dude, my 2 cent and the folks who will come on later like Black Friday, E. Fraizer, bxconnect, BlazeMcherbs, Karess, Odemic mega 1 and the kid Banga and everyone else...

First of all I agree with Rocky that you have to some of these types of songs on the radio...I see them as fillers....

However, I also agree with Reckless. The art I love called Hip Hop is currently in its worst state since it's birth. It lacks creativity and substance. I don't think that artists are just that...artists.

Today its all about sales and no one cares about the art it self. I see the Art of Hip Hop like I see Jazz. It's a music genre that has a select few listeners and these listeners are people who appreciate beats, lyrics and substance. Those who prefer real Hip Hop are people of substance just as Jazz listners are.

Rap is the bullshit you have now. True Hip Hop niggas are in misery because we have seen this current genre of music being pushed off as Hip Hop and those who don't know better think what they are getting is Hip Hop when in reality its Rap Music or what I like to classify to be; Bullshit.

I agree with the Godson Nasir Jones that Hip Hop is indeed dead.

Xclusive BK Dude keeps referencing it so I'm gonna see what's up

Posted by: my 2 cents at August 22, 2006 09:34 AM

My bad son but when I hear real hip-hop which is very rare these days I just try and spread the word. But you gonna be feeling that joint hard body when u finish downloading. The track Baby feat. Lil Mo is fire, Can I Live feat. the Whole Desert Storm team is fire, and Murda(We Don't Believe You) with Paul Cain is str8 fire. And the best thing about it is its a double disc so the list goes on and on I'm just giving you a taste.
