Rap is not dead its just dying. I still think it can be revived. But alot of people dont like noncommercial rap and more people like commerial rap. So most people think hip hop is still alive and well because it is on top of the charts(no rite now really).
It depends on your opinion if u like commercial rap, non commercial rap, good rappers and mcs, orjust catchy good beats.

Man hip hop aint dead just true hip hop listeners. As you said in your article the brain washing of minds in radio rotations is the demise of the mindset. However true hip hoppers still spin vinyl true hip hoppers still have tape decks whether it be in there ride or in the house. True hip hoppers still carry spray cans rather then the latest version of photo shop True hip hop still lives you just have to find it in other platforms then TV and Radio because both are big business. I read on a blog on SOHH that album sales will go back to standard or whatever the word was used and that most artists are no longer going plat and the highest will go back to being Gold GOOD! Could you imagin if Harriet Tubman got on the airwaves to give out directions to the underground railroad? Think about it....

When does it stop, I beleive most Hip Hop artist want airplay and want to become internationally known. Back pack rap rap as well as commerciallzed Hip Hop has it's place. It is unfortunanate that we have to sacrifice quality over commercialism.
I think hip hop various layers are good for the Hip Hop culture. We just need to get rid of coporate controls over the messages it dictates artists to create to brainwash the masses.(Not everybody can relate to a Nas, Talib or Dead pres but those groups are needed just as much as your Nelly and 50's to an extent.

I just... don't understand how so many people can blown so far of course as to believe that Nelly could take KRS-One in a battle; or that 50 is a high-caliber lyricist. Alot of today's rap listeners (I say rap, because you sure as hell can't call it Hip Hop) only know who KRS-One is because they saw him on one of the "Beef" dvd's.

I am the only 16-year-old I know who would rather listen to classic cats than some bullshit "dirty south" dickhead talking about his "grill", his hoes, his rims, his hustles -- the usual crap you'd expect. I think what this generation is missing is an outlet for REAL, quality Hip Hop like Yo! MTV Raps was. I've said it before and I'll say it again -- schools need to offer a course on Hip Hip- not "rap", Hip Hop. Starting in the 70's and working it's way up to current time, the class would cover things like the roots of Hip Hop, the different "ages" of Hip Hop, and many other things related to pure Hip Hop.

I'm going to preempitively say No Homo for this next part here, but have you seen that movie Brown Sugar? That is the only chick-flick that I can stand to watch more than one time. Why? Because it was more about Hip Hop than love-cliche's, at least in my opinion. It brought up some good points about what's going on in Hip Hop -- 97% of the cats in the rap business these days are just Rin-and-Tin's--dumbasses who have no skills so they create a gimmick to be successful. There's not enough cats like Mos Def's character (or Mos himself for that matter) who would rather make quality music even if it means sacrificing platinum certification. I think every person in America should hear Mos' joint "The Rape Over", it's real talk.

The point you brought up about wack songs being considered hot is very true. I sometimes catch myself bopping to a song I HATE with a passion because its catchy and Im always hearing it so it grows on you, but you still HATE it. Its is brainwashing and it really works on this generation and even grown ass people. Its all a part of marketing and people fall right into it.

And the reason I would say Hip Hop is dead is because its not blooming as it was before when people joined in for the love of it and not "JUST" for the money aspect of it. Some elements are still carrying on, but its not taking seriously enough today even by the participants as the actual "ART" that it is. Every aspect of it is an art that you should want to do mainly for the love of it. Its fine to want money from it...thats what its about too but if thats ALL you care about, we will not put any great contributions toward the culture, therefore WE DONT NEED YOU. All these "rappers" perpretrating...adding on to the demise of Hip Hop. It will end just as Jazz did if these people dont stop fucking it over.

4therecordy'all thats what Im saying. I was listening to some Russian Hip Hop yesterday (got the words translated of course) and they were spitting some real shit. Once I find the name of the artists, I'll probably enlighten a few. France has some shit going on, even Africa. Hip Hop in these other places embrace HH for the love of it. They know more about it then people from the US. They really would save HH. But you'd have to mean US Hip Hop cause in those places HH is fine. And Im also tired of "dont hate them for making money". People not "all" money is good money. Look at how "money" gives positive and negative effects in all types of situations. Mostly NEGATIVE affects. The world is RULED by money basically because MONEY rules MOST people and look how the world is...it sure aint good. Of course to make more money and provide more opportunity in their careers. It seems like its more party joints now than ever. The first group to actually get a record deal was a MADE UP GROUP. N'Sync style to the fullest. The dudes didn't even know each other before they made the record. Part of the record was GHOSTWRITTEN by someone else (the ORIGINAL swagger jack).

Next thing you know, record execs started running around tryin to find themselves the next 'SugarHill Gang'.

And even when groups started to get deals and radio play, you didn't DARE copy someones ENTIRE style and try to pass it off as something original.

You came fresh, or you didn't come at all.

Half of these rappers with deals would be 'weed carriers' back in the day. Hypemen(niggaz know who they are).

I don't think it's so much that hiphop wasn't about sales (because in the end, everything in the world comes back to money), but that during the mid/late 90's record executives realized they could turn more sales by marketing pop artists as hiphop and selling to white and black people at the same time. Now that shit is so ingrained in our culture that instead of people talking about who's a better lyricists or has a better flow, people argue over who sold more and how much money someone made. Now we have people growing up with that, thinking niggas are cool just because they sell albums. The shit sucks but honestly, it happens to every genre after a long while. It's also real hard for me to hate some of the artists that've come through just to make some money, exploiting the way the system works right now (50 Cent), because really it's an opportunity for them. It's a real situation where you can sell your hiphop soul for some change and honestly it doesn't mean that much to some people. I can't blame someone for wanting to make it big, I can understand it even though I'd never do it.

And yeah, the charts aren't filled with Immortal Technique, Nas, Ghost, Del, or other shit, but that doesn't mean good hiphop is dying. It'll still be here aslong as people who are dedicated can at least break even doing shit on the road/independent labels. I mean you look at a lot of westcoast rap (where I am) and it's been on lifesupport for a longass time now, but you have people that are just working on indie labels and maybe they don't make enough to retire on but they can do the shit they love and support themselves. If we just keep that it'll be all good. I mean shit MF Doom pushes at least three albums a year and unless that fool sleeps in a recording studio he's supporting himself.

I'm just real glad I was born barely enough to catch the last of the real golden-era for mainstream hiphop. I'm only 18 but I appreciate the hell out of the fact I'm not 15.

There's no doubt every artists cares about sales but there is a difference. I mean if a artist is built to go plat, ie Luda,50,etc., they shouldn't be watering down their music for an extra 500 000 to a million copies being sold. Sugar Hill put they shit out in 1979 and it was a big hit world wide, thats when the Big Record Labels became interested. But even before then niggas was sellin tapes in the hood (NO RECORD DEAL). Why? Cuz they was hustlers and wanted to make money. HipHop is a culture, But also is a form of music. You can fool your self and imagine something so pure that money is not a factor but thats not the case with anything that's human related including hip-hop. Hip Hop is not just about money, I mean, look at Mos Def -- he's got several big labels who want to sign him, but he turns them down every time. If he was doing it for money, then why would he turn them down?

Jesus Christ, the music industry is becoming the new movie industry, it seems like any famous person who can't sing either makes their own shitty band (Bruce Willis; Russell Crowe; Kevin Bacon) or turns to rap (K-Fag; Shaq; and too many others to count). We need to get a better screening system -- if you don't meet the criteria, you aren't allowed to "rap" and you get smacked for trying to.

1) You MUST MUST MUST write your own shit -- I say "MUST" three times because it is that important.

2) The shit you write needs to have a unique sound, and cannot repeat a word or phrase more than two times consecutively.

3) You cannot bite more than 5 MINOR lines on your albums without at least acknowledging the bitee in the same songs.

4) You cannot start beef within 3 months of the release of either of your first two albums. *Exceptions will be made under certain conditions, but not without express permission from the H.H.C.(Hip Hop Council -- has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?)

5) No song you make can contain more than 5 gun/gunshot/bullet sound effects, explosions, screams of pain/terror, chainsaws, sexual moans from hoes, etc. *Once again, certain exceptions may be made.

6) If you invent/adopt words or phrases as slang for something, the relationship between the two must be clever, but also relatively obvious; Stupid shit like "Laffy Taffy" will not be tolerated, and will result in you getting shot.

7) If you make claims of leading a gangster-esque lifestyle, you must have the police record, and a family member named "Deebo" as confirmation -- or you will be shot. Hypocrisy will not be tolerated.

8) You must have your own style; impersonation, excessive biting, and the like, will result in you being fitted for concrete shoes. We won't tolerate swagger jacking.

From reading your message, I can tell that you're probably another Old School head from NYC that wants everybody to reminisce on the origins of the Rap Game, without attempting to evolve and respect other areas that contribute Rap Music to express the way they live. Shit, when N.W.A. and Ice-T were doing it, they were pioneers who really made the world (as well as politicians and the media) stand up and really pay attention to Rap Music. Otherwise, Rap would have just been recognized as having been created in NY, and a mere unpopular fad for black people with too much time on their hands. Before them, there was no REAL money in Rap or Hip-Hop, just people who enjoyed listening to the art form (much like myself.) But do they get any recognition from New Yorkers for doing so? HELL NO! To date, Busta Rhymes seems to be the ONLY personal that knows how to change his style often, in order to stay relevent and make hits. Maybe you guys need to take a page out of his book. So it seems to me that the Hip-Hop nation is only "5 Boroughs of Seperation."

Even though Eminem is lyrically talented, I beleive that he is part of the reason why Hip-Hop is so commercial and that Rap Music seems to have declined in its appeal. THE DAY ITSELF - EVIDENCE OF COMPLICITY

1) AWOL Chain of Command
a. It is well documented that the officials topping the chain of command for response to a domestic attack - George W. Bush, Donald Rumsfeld, Richard Myers, Montague Winfield - all found reason to do something else during the actual attacks, other than assuming their duties as decision-makers.
b. Who was actually in charge? Dick Cheney, Richard Clarke, Norman Mineta and the 9/11 Commission directly conflict in their accounts of top-level response to the unfolding events, such that several (or all) of them must be lying.
2) Air Defense Failures
a. The US air defense system failed to follow standard procedures for responding to diverted passenger flights.
b. Timelines: The various responsible agencies - NORAD, FAA, Pentagon, USAF, as well as the 9/11 Commission - gave radically different explanations for the failure (in some cases upheld for years), such that several officials must have lied; but none were held accountable.
c. Was there an air defense standdown?

3) Pentagon Strike
How was it possible the Pentagon was hit 1 hour and 20 minutes after the attacks began? Why was there no response from Andrews Air Force Base, just 10 miles away and home to Air National Guard units charged with defending the skies above the nation's capital? How did Hani Hanjour, a man who failed as a Cessna pilot on his first flight in a Boeing, execute a difficult aerobatic maneuver to strike the Pentagon? Why did the attack strike the just-renovated side, which was largely empty and opposite from the high command?

4) Wargames
a. US military and other authorities planned or actually rehearsed defensive response to all elements of the 9/11 scenario during the year prior to the attack - including multiple hijackings, suicide crashbombings, and a strike on the Pentagon.
b. The multiple military wargames planned long in advance and held on the morning of September 11th included scenarios of a domestic air crisis, a plane crashing into a government building, and a large-scale emergency in New York. If this was only an incredible series of coincidences, why did the official investigations avoid the issue? There is evidence that the wargames created confusion as to whether the unfolding events were "real world or exercise." Did wargames serve as the cover for air defense sabotage, and/or the execution of an "inside job"?

5) Flight 93
Did the Shanksville crash occur at 10:06 (according to a seismic report) or 10:03 (according to the 9/11 Commission)? Does the Commission wish to hide what happened in the last three minutes of the flight, and if so, why? Was Flight 93 shot down, as indicated by the scattering of debris over a trail of several miles?

6) Did cell phones work at 30,000 feet in 2001? How many hijackings were attempted? How many flights were diverted?

7) Demolition Hypothesis
What caused the collapse of a third skyscraper, WTC 7, which was not hit by a plane? Were the Twin Towers and WTC 7 brought down by explosives? (See "The Case for Demolitions," the websites wtc7.net and 911research.wtc7.net, and the influential article by physicist Steven Jones. See also items no. 16 and 24, below.)

FOREKNOWLEDGE & THE ALLEGED HIJACKERS

8) What did officials know? How did they know it?
a. Multiple allied foreign agencies informed the US government of a coming attack in detail, including the manner and likely targets of the attack, the name of the operation (the "Big Wedding"), and the names of certain men later identified as being among the perpetrators.
b. Various individuals came into possession of specific advance knowledge, and some of them tried to warn the US prior to September 11th.
c. Certain prominent persons received warnings not to fly on the week or on the day of September 11th.

9) Able Danger, Plus - Surveillance of Alleged Hijackers
a. The men identified as the 9/11 ringleaders were under surveillance for years beforehand, on the suspicion they were terrorists, by a variety of US and allied authorities - including the CIA, the US military's "Able Danger" program, the German authorities, Israeli intelligence and others.
b. Two of the alleged ringleaders who were known to be under surveillance by the CIA also lived with an FBI asset in San Diego, but this is supposed to be yet another a coincidence.
10) Obstruction of FBI Investigations prior to 9/11
A group of FBI officials in New York systematically suppressed field investigations of potential terrorists that might have uncovered the alleged hijackers - as the Moussaoui case once again showed. The stories of Sibel Edmonds, Robert Wright, Coleen Rowley and Harry Samit, the "Phoenix Memo," David Schippers, the 199i orders restricting investigations, the Bush administration's order to back off the Bin Ladin family, the reaction to the "Bojinka" plot, and John O'Neil do not, when considered in sum, indicate mere incompetence, but high-level corruption and protection of criminal networks, including the network of the alleged 9/11 conspirators. (Nearly all of these examples were omitted from or relegated to fleeting footnotes in The 9/11 Commission Report.)

11) Insider Trading
a. Unknown speculators allegedly used foreknowledge of the Sept. 11th events to profiteer on many markets internationally - including but not limited to "put options" placed to short-sell the two airlines, WTC tenants, and WTC re-insurance companies in Chicago and London.
b. In addition, suspicious monetary transactions worth hundreds of millions were conducted through offices at the Twin Towers during the actual attacks.
c. Initial reports on these trades were suppressed and forgotten, and only years later did the 9/11 Commission and SEC provide a partial, but untenable explanation for only a small number of transactions (covering only the airline put options through the Chicago Board of Exchange).

12) Who were the perpetrators?
a. Much of the evidence establishing who did the crime is dubious and miraculous: bags full of incriminating material that happened to miss the flight or were left in a van; the "magic passport" of an alleged hijacker, found at Ground Zero; documents found at motels where the alleged perpetrators had stayed days and weeks before 9/11.
b. The identities of the alleged hijackers remain unresolved, there are contradictions in official accounts of their actions and travels, and there is evidence several of them had "doubles," all of which is omitted from official investigations.
c. THE 9/11 COVER-UP, 2001-2006

13) Who Is Osama Bin Ladin?
a. Who judges which of the many conflicting and dubious statements and videos attributed to Osama Bin Ladin are genuine, and which are fake? The most important Osama Bin Ladin video (Nov. 2001), in which he supposedly confesses to masterminding 9/11, appears to be a fake. In any event, the State Department's translation of it is fraudulent.
b. Did Osama Bin Ladin visit Dubai and meet a CIA agent in July 2001 (Le Figaro)? Was he receiving dyalisis in a Pakistani military hospital on the night of September 10, 2001 (CBS)?
c. Whether by Bush or Clinton: Why is Osama always allowed to escape?
d. The terror network associated with Osama, known as the "data base" (al-Qaeda), originated in the CIA-sponsored 1980s anti-Soviet jihad in Afghanistan. When did this network stop serving as an asset to covert operations by US intelligence and allied agencies? What were its operatives doing in Kosovo, Bosnia and Chechnya in the years prior to 9/11?

14) All the Signs of a Systematic 9/11 Cover-up
a. Airplane black boxes were found at Ground Zero, according to two first responders and an unnamed NTSB official, but they were "disappeared" and their existence is denied in The 9/11 Commission Report.
b. US officials consistently suppressed and destroyed evidence (like the tapes recorded by air traffic controllers who handled the New York flights).
c. Whistleblowers (like Sibel Edmonds and Anthony Shaffer) were intimidated, gagged and sanctioned, sending a clear signal to others who might be thinking about speaking out.
d. Officials who "failed" (like Myers and Eberhard, as well as Frasca, Maltbie and Bowman of the FBI) were given promotions.

15) Poisoning New York
The White House deliberately pressured the EPA into giving false public assurances that the toxic air at Ground Zero was safe to breathe. This knowingly contributed to an as-yet unknown number of health cases and fatalities, and demonstrates that the administration does consider the lives of American citizens to be expendable on behalf of certain interests.

16) Disposing of the Crime Scene
The rapid and illegal scrapping of the WTC ruins at Ground Zero disposed of almost all of the structural steel indispensable to any investigation of the collapse mechanics. (See also item no. 23, below.)

17) Anthrax
Mailings of weapons-grade anthrax - which caused a practical suspension of the 9/11 investigations - were traced back to US military stock. Soon after the attacks began in October 2001, the FBI approved the destruction of the original samples of the Ames strain, disposing of perhaps the most important evidence in identifying the source of the pathogens used in the mailings. Were the anthrax attacks timed to coincide with the Afghanistan invasion? Why were the letters sent only to media figures and to the leaders of the opposition in the Senate (who had just raised objections to the USA PATRIOT Act)?

18) The Stonewall
a. Colin Powell promised a "white paper" from the State Department to establish the authorship of the attacks by al-Qaeda. This was never forthcoming, and was instead replaced by a paper from Tony Blair, which presented only circumstantial evidence, with very few points actually relating to September 11th.
b. Bush and Cheney pressured the (freshly-anthraxed) leadership of the Congressional opposition into delaying the 9/11 investigation for months. The administration fought against the creation of an independent investigation for more than a year.
c. The White House thereupon attempted to appoint Henry Kissinger as the chief investigator, and acted to underfund and obstruct the 9/11 Commission.

19) A Record of Official Lies
a. "No one could have imagined planes into buildings" - a transparent falsehood upheld repeatedly by Rice, Rumsfeld and Bush.
b. "Iraq was connected to 9/11" - The most "outrageous conspiracy theory" of all, with the most disastrous impact.

20) Pakistani Connection - Congressional Connection
a. The Pakistani intelligence agency ISI, creator of the Taliban and close ally to both the CIA and "al-Qaeda," allegedly wired $100,000 to Mohamed Atta just prior to September 11th, reportedly through the ISI asset Omar Saeed Sheikh (later arrested for the killing of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, who was investigating ISI connections to "al-Qaeda.")
b. This was ignored by the congressional 9/11 investigation, although the senator and congressman who ran the probe (Bob Graham and Porter Goss) were meeting with the ISI chief, Mahmud Ahmed, on Capitol Hill on the morning of September 11th.
c. About 25 percent of the report of the Congressional Joint Inquiry was redacted, including long passages regarding how the attack (or the network allegedly behind it) was financed. Graham later said foreign allies were involved in financing the alleged terror network, but that this would only come out in 30 years.

21) Unanswered Questions and the "Final Fraud" of the 9/11 Commission:
a. The September 11th families who fought for and gained an independent investigation (the 9/11 Commission) posed 400-plus questions, which the 9/11 Commission adopted as its roadmap. The vast majority of these questions were completely ignored in the Commission hearings and the final report.
b. The membership and staff of the 9/11 Commission displayed awesome conflicts of interest. The families called for the resignation of Executive Director Philip Zelikow, a Bush administration member and close associate of "star witness" Condoleezza Rice, and were snubbed. Commission member Max Cleland resigned, condemning the entire exercise as a "scam" and "whitewash."
c.The 9/11 Commission Report is notable mainly for its obvious omissions, distortions and outright falsehoods - ignoring anything incompatible with the official story, banishing the issues to footnotes, and even dismissing the still-unresolved question of who financed 9/11 as being "of little practical significance."

22) Crown Witnesses Held at Undisclosed Locations
The alleged masterminds of 9/11, Khalid Sheikh Mohamed (KSM) and Ramzi Binalshibh, are reported to have been captured in 2002 and 2003, although one Pakistani newspaper said KSM was killed in an attempted capture. They have been held at undisclosed locations and their supposed testimonies, as provided in transcript form by the government, form much of the basis for The 9/11 Commission Report (although the Commission's request to see them in person was denied). After holding them for years, why doesn't the government produce these men and put them to trial?

23) Spitzer Redux
a. Eliot Spitzer, attorney general of New York State, snubbed pleas by New York citizens to open 9/11 as a criminal case (Justicefor911.org).
b. Spitzer also refused to allow his employee, former 9/11 Commission staff member Dietrich Snell, to testify to the Congress about his (Snell's) role in keeping "Able Danger" entirely out of The 9/11 Commission Report.

24) NIST Omissions

4. Prison Camps

This last January the Army Corps of Engineers gave Halliburton subsidiary Kellogg Brown & Root nearly $400 million to build detention centers in the United States, for the purpose of unspecified "new programs." Of course, the obvious first guess would be that these new programs might involve rounding up Muslims or political dissenters -- I mean, obviously detention facilities are there to hold somebody. I wish I had more to tell you about this, but it's, you know... secret.

5. Touchscreen Voting Machines

Despite clear, copious evidence that these nefarious contraptions are built to be tampered with, they continue to spread and dominate the voting landscape, thanks to Bush's "Help America Vote Act," the exploitation of corrupt elections officials, and the general public's enduring cluelessness.

In Utah, Emery County Elections Director Bruce Funk witnessed security testing by an outside firm on Diebold voting machines which showed them to be a security risk. But his warnings fell on deaf ears. Instead Diebold attorneys were flown to Emery County on the governor's airplane to squelch the story. Funk was fired. In Florida, Leon County Supervisor of Elections Ion Sancho discovered an alarming security flaw in their Diebold system at the end of last year. Rather than fix the flaw, Diebold refused to fulfill its contract. Both of the other two touchscreen voting machine vendors, Sequoia and ES&S, now refuse to do business with Sancho, who is required by HAVA to implement a touchscreen system and will be sued by his own state if he doesn't. Diebold is said to be pressuring for Sancho's ouster before it will resume servicing the county.

Stories like these and much worse abound, and yet TV news outlets have done less coverage of the new era of elections fraud than even 9/11 conspiracy theories. This is possibly the most important story of this century, but nobody seems to give a damn. As long as this issue is ignored, real American democracy will remain an illusion. The midterm elections will be an interesting test of the public's continuing gullibility about voting integrity, especially if the Democrats don't win substantial gains, as they almost surely will if everything is kosher.

Bush just suggested that his brother Jeb would make a good president. We really need to fix this problem soon.

6. Signing Statements

Bush has famously never vetoed a bill. This is because he prefers to simply nullify laws he doesn't like with "signing statements." Bush has issued over 700 such statements, twice as many as all previous presidents combined. A few examples of recently passed laws and their corresponding dismissals, courtesy of the Boston Globe:

--Dec. 30, 2005: US interrogators cannot torture prisoners or otherwise subject them to cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment.

Bush's signing statement: The president, as commander in chief, can waive the torture ban if he decides that harsh interrogation techniques will assist in preventing terrorist attacks.

--Dec. 30, 2005: When requested, scientific information ''prepared by government researchers and scientists shall be transmitted [to Congress] uncensored and without delay."

Bush's signing statement: The president can tell researchers to withhold any information from Congress if he decides its disclosure could impair foreign relations, national security, or the workings of the executive branch.

--Dec. 23, 2004: Forbids US troops in Colombia from participating in any combat against rebels, except in cases of self-defense. Caps the number of US troops allowed in Colombia at 800.

Bush's signing statement: Only the president, as commander in chief, can place restrictions on the use of US armed forces, so the executive branch will construe the law ''as advisory in nature."

Essentially, this administration is bypassing the judiciary and deciding for itself whether laws are constitutional or not. Somehow, I don't see the new Supreme Court lineup having much of a problem with that, though. So no matter what laws congress passes, Bush will simply choose to ignore the ones he doesn't care for. It's much quieter than a veto, and can't be overridden by a two-thirds majority. It's also totally absurd.

7. Warrantless Wiretapping

Amazingly, the GOP sees this issue as a plus for them. How can this be? What are you, stupid? You find out the government is listening to the phone calls of US citizens, without even the weakest of judicial oversight and you think that's okay? Come on -- if you know anything about history, you know that no government can be trusted to handle something like this responsibly. One day they're listening for Osama, and the next they're listening in on Howard Dean.

Think about it: this administration hates unauthorized leaks. With no judicial oversight, why on earth wouldn't they eavesdrop on, say, Seymour Hersh, to figure out who's spilling the beans? It's a no-brainer. Speaking of which, it bears repeating: terrorists already knew we would try to spy on them. They don't care if we have a warrant or not. But you should.

8. Free Speech Zones

I know it's old news, but... come on, are they fucking serious?

9. High-ranking Whistleblowers

Army Generals. Top-level CIA officials. NSA operatives. White House cabinet members. These are the kind of people that Republicans fantasize about being, and whose judgment they usually respect. But for some reason, when these people resign in protest and criticize the Bush administration en masse, they are cast as traitorous, anti-American publicity hounds. Ridiculous. The fact is, when people who kill, spy and deceive for a living tell you that the White House has gone too far, you had damn well better pay attention. We all know most of these people are staunch Republicans. If the entire military except for the two guys the Pentagon put in front of the press wants Rumsfeld out, why on earth wouldn't you listen?

10. The CIA Shakeup

Was Porter Goss fired because he was resisting the efforts of Rumsfeld or Negroponte? No. These appointments all come from the same guys, and they wouldn't be nominated if they weren't on board all the way. Goss was probably canned so abruptly due to a scandal involving a crooked defense contractor, his hand-picked third-in-command, the Watergate hotel and some hookers.

If Bush's nominee for CIA chief, Air Force General Michael Hayden, is confirmed, that will put every spy program in Washington under military control. Hayden, who oversaw the NSA warrantless wiretapping program and is clearly down with the program. That program? To weaken and dismantle or at least neuter the CIA. Despite its best efforts to blame the CIA for "intelligence errors" leading to the Iraq war, the picture has clearly emerged -- through extensive CIA leaks -- that the White House's analysis of Saddam's destructive capacity was not shared by the Agency. This has proved to be a real pain in the ass for Bush and the gang.

Who'd have thought that career spooks would have moral qualms about deceiving the American people? And what is a president to do about it? Simple: make the critical agents leave, and fill their slots with Bush/Cheney loyalists. Then again, why not simply replace the entire organization? That is essentially what both Rumsfeld at the DoD and newly minted Director of National Intelligence John are doing -- they want to move intelligence analysis into the hands of people that they can control, so the next time they lie about an "imminent threat" nobody's going to tell. And the press is applauding the move as a "necessary reform."

Anyway, I notice that we have shifted to the topic of racism now, so I may as well contribute my two-cents worth.
Racism by today's standards was invented by the white man. Period; that's not a point worth arguing. And when I say the white man, I mean anyone who clearly does not have "white" skin. Yes, the Jews have been persecuted heavily, but they have been able to escape it many times because their skin is also white. A black, Asian, Latino, Middle-Eastern, Indian (w/ dot), or Native American man could never get away with this because he is too visibly different both in the face and in the skin.

Since we're on the subject of races that have been/ are being oppressed by the white man, I figure I'll go ahead and throw in another one -- Asians. For us to think that blacks were the only slaves is purely ignorant, because there were plenty of Asian slaves as well -- however, not in the sheer volume of blacks, which is why they are typically overlooked. But I ask you, who built the railroads? Not whitey, that's for sure. It was slaves from China, Japan, Korea, etc. -- of course, they weren't called slaves because most of them had volunteered to do the work, thinking that it was a paying job. Of course, when they got to the "mining camps" they found out that they were not allowed to leave, and they would be working for a total of several pennies per hour (a little bit below minimum-wage, I'd say). If they didn't do as they were told, they'd be beaten, stoned, dismembered, blown up, you name it. So while plantation slaves were out in the field picking cotton, railroad slaves were worried about getting a stick of dynamite shoved up their asses.
Then there was the Japanese internment camps of World War II, which, by definition, were actually concentration camps. I won't get into all the details, but I recently had to write a paper involving said internment camps, and some of the treatment they received was... actually not all that shocking considering who was responsible for these "camp's" existence. I am not saying that all white people are racist, because that's not true -- there are plenty of white people who have become aware of its presence and have made a concerted effort toward ridding themselves of racism's taint. MC Serch is a prime example of this, he understands the wrongs that have been done by that sub-conscious racism, and you can hear it in his music. A lot of white people are quick to ridicule and mock that which they don't understand or is different from themselves -- I see it every day, and I think it has a lot to do with the fact they've never been on the receiving end of stuff like that. I don't know what it is, I can't quite put my finger on it, but there's something that causes many whites to view other races as somehow... sub-human. I can't really explain it, but I know everyone in here that is not ethnically-challenged knows what having white people treat you condescendingly is like. It doesn't hurt my feelings or anger me, so much as it just annoys me that people could be so ignorant, you know what I'm saying?

For me personally I feel like hip-hop has changed for the worse in the US. The golden era for me was 91-97, admittedly it was all about that NY flavour and some of that West Coast shit. Some of that Biggie, some of that Rakim, Nas, Mobb etc. Personally I don't feel Southern hip-hop with the exception of Scarface, Little Brother and UGK, Outkast and Luda, so whats floodin the market now ain't appealing to me.
