Earlier this week, the true roots of hip-hop resurfaced via the Subway Series, a traveling concert made up of dancers, beatboxers, emcees, and singers that perform on an NY subway train.
It was the latest of the series, and will be the last for a while, which is a shame; in an era where hip-hop is plagued with pop-friendly tunes, trashy Paris Hilton collabos, sellouts like Jadakiss and Fat Joe, corny southern snap music, and lack of lyricism, there should be more, not less, of the support which preserves "real rap" and reminds us that true hip-hop really exists.
Pop artists like 50 Cent, Eminem, and Nelly have all contributed to the destruction of hip-hop that was first birthed from constant radio rotation. Have you ever heard a corny rap song that you couldn't stand but then you realized that its constant airplay grew on you? Brainwashing the listeners into thinking a song is hot--even though it's not--is an effective marketing strategy that always works. Not only that, but a kid once asked his teacher, as I read in a magazine years ago, if "Eminem created rap." That was the ending of hope for hip-hop.
So in the event of rap's demise, the only mainstream hip-hop pioneers to be granted an afterlife in rap's heaven would be Nas, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Common, Dead Prez, to name a few--the only few, which is hardly enough. Nas wasn't lying: hip-hop really is dead.

I couldn't have said it better myself....
Rap is not dead its just dying. I still think it can be revived. But alot of people dont like noncommercial rap and more people like commerial rap. So most people think hip hop is still alive and well because it is on top of the charts(no rite now really).
It depends on your opinion if u like commercial rap, non commercial rap, good rappers and mcs, orjust catchy good beats.
Man hip hop aint dead just true hip hop listeners. As you said in your article the brain washing of minds in radio rotations is the demise of the mindset. However true hip hoppers still spin vinyl true hip hoppers still have tape decks whether it be in there ride or in the house. True hip hoppers still carry spray cans rather then the latest version of photo shop True hip hop still lives you just have to find it in other platforms then TV and Radio because both are big business. I read on a blog on SOHH that album sales will go back to standard or whatever the word was used and that most artists are no longer going plat and the highest will go back to being Gold GOOD! Could you imagin if Harriet Tubman got on the airwaves to give out directions to the underground railroad? Think about it....
hip hop is dying. i hope people (especially young black people) start playing instruments again.
When does it stop, I beleive most Hip Hop artist want airplay and want to become internationally known. Back pack rap rap as well as commerciallzed Hip Hop has it's place. It is unfortunanate that we have to sacrifice quality over commercialism.
I think hip hop various layers are good for the Hip Hop culture. We just need to get rid of coporate controls over the messages it dictates artists to create to brainwash the masses.(Not everybody can relate to a Nas, Talib or Dead pres but those groups are needed just as much as your Nelly and 50's to an extent.
hip hop is dying. i hope people (especially young black people) start playing instruments again.
Yo the person who writes this Blog is always on some hate and negativity type of shit. DAMN IS THE WORLD COMING TO AN END TO. As soon as an MC becomes successful and sells alot of records and make alot of money people like you start to hate. (CRABS IN A BARRELL). Hip Hop ain't dead it's still dominating the charts. Did you really expect shit to sound the same almost 30 years later, are niggas still suppossed to beat boxin and shit. Face it man hip hop is bigger than you, just because you don't like a certain sound doesn't mean YOU DECIDE WHEN IT DIES.
THE DISTRUCTION OF HIPHOP?
YOU FAGS KILL ME WITH THE BULLSHIT.

how can u say hip hop is dead. what is hip hop to u is not hip hop to everyone else. music goes through changes. rock went through a change, now its hip hop's turn. im from the south, mississippi to be exact, and there was a time when ny didnt play anybody from the south and now u want us to apolgize for getttin more airplay than ny artists now? grow up get over it. the reqason why ny hip hop is on the bottom is because ny emcees hate each other. yall dont help each other. u dont see 50 reachin out to kweli do u, u dont see d-block reachin out to the dipset do u. yall ny niggas hated on jay-z and nas for actin like grown men and squahin thier beef. what kind of twisted shit is that. the two best emcees that ny has are showin solidarity but yall want them to fight. the reason ny is on the bottom now cause yall think ny hip hop is the only kind that should exist. whats this shit about bring ny back? wnen did ny leave? yall act like yall dont have jay-z, nas, dmx, busta, d-block, dipset, kweli, mos def, fabolous, fat joe, papoose, jae millz, remy, dead prez and as i recall the top emcee is from ny, 50 cent. if ny was on top yall would still be complaining. STOP WHINING! Whats up with takin shots at eminem! jada respects em, jay respects em, nas respects em, hell rakim respects em. yall act like nobody has lyicists execpt ny. and u said only those emcess would in raps afterlife? so ur basically sayin fuck pac, fuck biggie, big l, big pun, eazy-e, and all the fallen emcees. what about kanye, jada, styles p, luda, ti, game, dr. dre, snoop, missy, dmx, busta, for crying out loud jay-z! nobody pleases ny. hell ny emcees cant please ny. hip hop is bigger than new york. hip hop speaks to the world. from brooklyn to bangkok, hip hop is the voice of everyone. yall act like the roots aint shit. im a fan of ny hip hop, thats why im askin ny to unite. i know the south has corny artists like d4l, mike jones, lil scrappy, and dfb, but we have lyricists too. like luda, ti, lil wayne, trick daddy, bun b, scarface, outkast, & killer mike. the one thing that sets the south & midwest apart from ny or la, we got each others back. thats what i ask ny to do.can u blame ghostface 4 sayin fuck ny?
HIPHOP, is starting to feel like the 'Hair Metal' of the late 80's and 90's.
Makin lots of money.
Fuckin lots of groupies.
Drinkin lots of alcohol.
Then one day, POOF.
Metal/Rock isn't dead, but only because bands can still make a living by going on the road. And their fans remain loyal.
HIPHOP artists can't tour the same way as other artists do.(can't find good venues, can't get good promotion, don't put on an entertaining enough show, shoot up the places that are willing to throw a show)
And our fans AREN'T LOYAL.
The Roots and other acts like them will survive, because they can become 'road warriors' and keep people interested with a great live show.
Cats that do nothing but walk around the stage, with 50 niggaz standing in the background, are gonna be in trouble.
That's my 2 cents.
HIPHOP may never truly 'die', but HIPHOP may end up being 'put out to pasture' sooner than later.
I AGREE WITH U K-ROB NIGGAS NEED TO STOP BITCHIN .U CAN'T BLAME THE ARTIST FOR SELLING AND DOING SO WELL THE CONSUMMERS ARE THE ONES WHO MAKE THE ARTIST EVEN THE ONES WHO SAY HIP HOP IS DEAD , AND HIP HOP IS NOT DEAD . PEOPLE WANT TO START DANCING AGAIN JUST LIKE IN THE 80'S AND EARLY 90'S.I BET IF A STRAIGHT HOOD RAP WAS DOING SO WELL PEOPLE WILL BE DISS HIM EVEN THE ONES WHO WAS BITCHING THAT HOOD RAP DONT GET NO PLAY. IF U WANT A STRAGHT GRIME RAP TO DO WELL BUY THEIR FUCKING MUSIC AND STOP BITCHING. AND NOT ALL NYC RAPPERS ARE HATING ON SOUTHER RAPPERSAND HIP HOP IN GENERRAL ITS OLD RAPPERS LIKE GHOSTFACE , HE SHOULD STOP BICHING AND PAY ATTENTION ON BRINGING WU TANG BACK I DONT SEE THEMM MAKING ANY MUSIC. AND I WANT TO MAKE SOMETHING CLEAR TO ALL YALL NIGGAS WHO ARE BITCHING RAPPERS ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT BLING,CARS ,HOUSES HOS THAT MUCH ANY MORE THAT ERA WAS GONE LIKE THREE YEARS AGO ITS GOING AWAY SLOWLY. AND DIDN'T RAPPERS FROM THE 80'S WEAR BLING ALSO BIG ASS GOLD CHAINS AND HALF OF YALL WAS COPYING ALSO.
in the sense of how it started yes, hip hop has changed..was it suppose to stay the same..no..nothing does..we have grown as a music genre but not as a movement..for those who know yes hip hop was originally a movement..gave us something to stand for..it was a way for youth 2 express theirselves thru music.."broken glass everywhere"...if you know ur music u know where that's from...i'm glad we are one of the top selling music genres..hip hop deserves it's just due fiancially..but why cant it be done with out exploiting ourselves..for crying out loud beanie sigel getting shot..i doubt that very much..if someone was going to do that for real i'm sure they would have taken him out...it's like if you dont have beef, been shot, stabbed or have some type of problems ur not "real"..get of that shit already...one thing i will say, when corporate gets tired of all that killing in the music when lil johnny's and sue ellen's start getting hurt all over the u.s. and blame it on hip hop i can gurantee they will put our music on the back burner...then it will go right back to being an underground movement..again...all of you hating on ny..understand something...U CANT COUNT OUT THE PLACE THAT STARTED IT ALL! everything comes full circle and it's just a matter of time before it comes back home...it started with us.. went to the west, mid west, south then it will come back home were it belongs..it's not that everyone is hating on the south..being from a lyrical town where you best bring you a game verbally or get shut down, it boggles the mind to hear simple minded lyrics but the south has always been slower than the north, living wise that is (look in ur history books, southners traveled to the north for a better way of life)..the one thing i will give the south is everyone sticks together..something ny use to do and will have to do in order to "bring back" ny hip hop...if not then it will never happen.
The whole problem these days is the the powers that be, dont want the ignorance levels in this country to drop. This is the base of the GOP, rich folks, poor folks, racists, Christians, if any of these people start thinking for themselves god forbid, it would be the end of the dynasty... Sort of like G-Unit, he got elected the first go round, no one knew how fucked up it was gonna be, then he stole it the next go round, now look at it, the approval ratings are garabge, the whole crew is catching bricks, and he makes the whole country(city) look trite.... Where are the choices in hip-hop?? It use to be that there was a little of something for everyone, now the powers that be, only push sex and materialistic wants, why risk empowereing any black folk...For the 10.99 for a cd, lets see what is better for the machine, giving the youth some food for thought, or giving them an outrageous shopping list....
Now im just rambling, i could go for days dont get me started......
FIGHT THE POWER
Reckless, I never realized you were that deep homie. Excellent post. God, what is wrong with everyone these days? I just... don't understand how so many people can blown so far of course as to believe that Nelly could take KRS-One in a battle; or that 50 is a high-caliber lyricist. Alot of today's rap listeners (I say rap, because you sure as hell can't call it Hip Hop) only know who KRS-One is because they saw him on one of the "Beef" dvd's.
I am the only 16-year-old I know who would rather listen to classic cats than some bullshit "dirty south" dickhead talking about his "grill", his hoes, his rims, his hustles -- the usual crap you'd expect. I think what this generation is missing is an outlet for REAL, quality Hip Hop like Yo! MTV Raps was. I've said it before and I'll say it again -- schools need to offer a course on Hip Hip- not "rap", Hip Hop. Starting in the 70's and working it's way up to current time, the class would cover things like the roots of Hip Hop, the different "ages" of Hip Hop, and many other things related to pure Hip Hop.
I'm going to preempitively say No Homo for this next part here, but have you seen that movie Brown Sugar? That is the only chick-flick that I can stand to watch more than one time. Why? Because it was more about Hip Hop than love-cliche's, at least in my opinion. It brought up some good points about what's going on in Hip Hop -- 97% of the cats in the rap business these days are just Rin-and-Tin's--dumbasses who have no skills so they create a gimmick to be successful. There's not enough cats like Mos Def's character (or Mos himself for that matter) who would rather make quality music even if it means sacrificing platinum certification. I think every person in America should hear Mos' joint "The Rape Over", it's real talk.
P.S. - Here's something that's guaranteed to have you nostalgic for the Golden Age of Hip Hop, check it out:

AND LET ME EDUCATED YALL AGAIN JUST LIKE NYC , NOT ALL SOUTHERN RAPPERS LIKE EACH OTHER THE REASON U DONT HEAR THAT MUCH BEEF AMONG THEM IS BECAUSE THEY END IT QUICKLY THEY MAKE A FEW SONG DISSIN EACH OTHER THEN THEY END IT. AND I DONT SEE ANY OF THOSE NIGGAS WHO WAS BEEFIN WITH EACH OTHER MAKING MUSIC TOGETHER LET ME GIVE U SOME EXAMPLES LUDACRIS AND TI NO MUSIC, TI AND LIL FLIP NO MUSIC , MIKE JONES-PAUL WALL AND CHAMILLIONAIRE NO MUSIC AND A LOT OF THE WEST COAST RAPPERS SAY THEY END SHIT I BELIEVE THEM BUT THEY ALL ARE STILL NOT MAKING ANY MUSIC WITH EACH OTHER.I GOT LOVE FOR EVERY ARTIST BUT U CANT SAY THAT ALL NYC NIGGAS HATING ON EACH OTHER AND THAT JAY-Z AND NAS SHIT IF THEY HAD ENDED IT YEARS AGO WHEN THE BEEF WAS STILL BIG THEN IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A BIG DEAL I AM NOT HATING BUT HOW CAN U BE COOL WITH SOME ONE WHO FUCKED YOUR BABY MOTHER SOMES NAS DAUGHTER WAS REALLY JAY-Z DAUGHTER HOW WOULD NAS FEEL .
I NEVER HEARD NIGGAS IN THE HOOD BUMPIN NO COMMON, TALIB,LITTLE BROTHER OR WHOEVER YALL CALL "REAL HIPHOP".
-----------
FOOLISH!!!
just cuz "niggaz in the hood" aint bumpin it u cant?? "niggas in the hood aint paying child support so i wont either". is that another code ya'll follow? followin ass niggas afraid to think for self. thats whats wrong with the industry and we as black folks now.
Hip hop was NEVER about sales so the fact that the industry is now sales driven....means that it goes against what hip hop STANDS for. how can todays "rap music" be hip hop if it goes against its principals? hip hop is dead but hip POP is alive and well......wish that bullshit was dead too!
"FOLLOWING THE CROWD WILL LEAD YOU NOWHERE"
" HIPHOP IS DEAD THATS ALL THESE NON-SELLING NIGGAS CAN SAY.GO OUT AND MAKE RECORDS THAT APPEAL TO EVEYONE NOT YOUR FUCKIN BLOCK OR CITY."
my exact thoughts.
Reckless, I never realized you were that deep homie. Excellent post. God, what is wrong with everyone these days? I just... don't understand how so many people can blown so far of course as to believe that Nelly could take KRS-One in a battle; or that 50 is a high-caliber lyricist.

You're alright, Nahlege, you're alright....
AN YALL CAN'T SAY NYC IS HATIN ON THE SOUTH BECUZ HAVE OF NYC BUY YALL RECORDS .NYC PEOPLE ARE JUST LIKE EVERY ONE OF YALL HALF YALL DONT BUY YALL OWN PEOPLES ALBUMS
HIP HOP HAS ALWAYS BEEN ABOUT SALES IF U DONT SELL U DONT EAT IF RUN DMC OR KRS-1 DID NOT SELL THEY WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN KNOWN OR BE ABLE TO BUY THEIR MOMMAS THEIR HOUSE NIGGAS TAKE CARE THEIR FAMILIES TOO
Thats real talk! Good Blog! Something worth speaking on.
The point you brought up about wack songs being considered hot is very true. I sometimes catch myself bopping to a song I HATE with a passion because its catchy and Im always hearing it so it grows on you, but you still HATE it. Its is brainwashing and it really works on this generation and even grown ass people. Its all a part of marketing and people fall right into it.
And the reason I would say Hip Hop is dead is because its not blooming as it was before when people joined in for the love of it and not "JUST" for the money aspect of it. Some elements are still carrying on, but its not taking seriously enough today even by the participants as the actual "ART" that it is. Every aspect of it is an art that you should want to do mainly for the love of it. Its fine to want money from it...thats what its about too but if thats ALL you care about, we will not put any great contributions toward the culture, therefore WE DONT NEED YOU. All these "rappers" perpretrating...adding on to the demise of Hip Hop. It will end just as Jazz did if these people dont stop fucking it over.
And to rephrase something, Hip Hop will die like Jazz, not saying Jazz is dead, but its obviously not blooming...as before.
its also funny that south niggas are claiming they runnin shit but look at all the stuff they took from the other coasts before them:
GRILLZ: check out pics of the wu and pun from '93-'96.
BAGGY JEANS, TIMBS, AIR FORCE ONES: east coast fashion since early 90's...when the south was rockin creased jeans(i lived in louisiana so i saw it first hand).
CANDY PAINT: west coast all day
now ya'll puttin all these things in your raps like shit is brand new, one-album-deep niggas actin like they invented this shit. NIGGA PLEASE!!! quit bitin!!
DJ Nahlege tryin to make a grown man cry with that CLASSIC clip.
The FINAL show.
I haven't seen that since it originally aired. Good lookin!!
YALL SHOULD STOP SAYING HIP HOP IS DEAD I'M GETTING TIRED OF THOSE WORDS A REAL HIP HOP HEAD WOULD NOT SAY THAT AND KEEP THE LOVE GOING YALL JUST TEACHING THE NEXT GENARATION BAD THINGS JUST LIKE THE WORD SNITCH SOON EVERY YOUNG NIGGAS WILL BE SAYING THAT THEN THEY WILL END NOT LISTEN TO HIP HOP ANY MORE SO YALL SHOULD STOP THE HATE AND MAKE YALL OWN MUSIC SINCE YALL KNOW WHAT REAL HIPHOP IS RAPPING IS NOT EASY
BEJAMIN READ THIS about HH being dead: And the thing I hate is the whole "have a image to market yourself with" because most of it is gimmicks. That has been going on since the 80's but its FAR WORSE today and will only GET worse which will also add to Hip Hops demise. Can anyone honestly say Hip Hop can last another 30 years? Its been nearly 30 years for Hip Hop, there is NO way it can last at the rate and path its going so please this whole "its not dead thing"...not true. Wake up. We know there are still graf crews, people still breakdance, but will they ever surface to the masses and be a major part in the culture as it was "before"? Because now the major part of HH is the rapping element. The DJs are some fucks, the rappers are some fucks, Graf artists are being told not to do what they do (some reasons I can understand), the whole game is fucked up. We know there are still some great undeground MC's but will they ever surface? The best way to get Hip Hop healthy is to feed it to the MASSES and theres no way to feed that Good Hip Hop to the masses if they dont know it exists.
HaHaHa. I love coming in here and reading these blogs. You mothafuckaz kill me asking why is hip hop about sales now. You know why it's about sales because mothafukaz is wasting a lot of money to promoting these albums just for the shit to go gold. The white mothafuckaz running shit don't care that your album go triple platinum with the bootleggers. I can tell that it is just a lot of hood niggaz in here because yall have no business sense. If you was in Jimmy Iovine spot would you rather have 10 niggaz on your label that "keep it real" and not make money or 10 niggaz on yur label that don't keep it real and go platinum everytime. I think we all know the answer to that. And for the last time 50 is not a snitch.
Gggggggggggg-unit
Please, rapping is easy as hell. MCing is true talent right there. Anybody can be a "rapper" nowadays. Have you been under a rock or do you see these lame ass "Rappers" that you claim dont find them corny ass raps "easy" to come up with? A rapper can come up with a cat in the hat remake with a corny ass sample and make it now especially if he/she slides a couple dollars under the table. Easy as it gets.
50...lmao. SMH
I think it's time that Hip-Hop should expand it's artists and audience... I mean hip-hop is now a world-wide movemement & I think that foreign acts are more intellectual than half of the rappers that y'all praise nowadays...most of this rappers nowadays jst do it 4 da money and not 4 the luv of Hip-Hop...wat I'm saying is dat cats from other parts of the world are familiar with the true elements of hip-hop & I have witnessed this with my own eyes. So as long as they spit in english, they shud all b considered in the U.S. market... if this happens, hip-hop will b saved cause they got that true love 4 it...on the other hand, Hip-Hop isn't fully dead yet, we can still save it by supporting the real mc's in da game!!! e.g. little brother, black thought, talib kweli (even though I don't like his voice, he's got positive msg's), Common, Kanye, Dead Prez, de la soul & Nas... jst 2 name a few...I respect hustlers but most of 'em don't drop any positive msg's to the youth and that is wat is f*cking the game up rite now!!!
"HIP HOP HAS ALWAYS BEEN ABOUT SALES IF U DONT SELL U DONT EAT IF RUN DMC OR KRS-1 DID NOT SELL THEY WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN KNOWN OR BE ABLE TO BUY THEIR MOMMAS THEIR HOUSE NIGGAS TAKE CARE THEIR FAMILIES TOO"
^^^^^^^^^^
clearly a youth speaking.
not one krs-one or boogie down productions album has gone gold....yet he has been in the game since '87-'88....when most of your idols were still being burped. clearly this art form was not about sales from the gate.
please dont try to talk #'s unless u sit at the desk next to me. might wanna check with soundscan first before spitting out sales info u read on some fan website.
BTW, can anyone tell me what beat that was they were rhymin over in Pt. 2? I've been trying to find it for like 2 years now, but nobody seems to know.
4therecordy'all thats what Im saying. I was listening to some Russian Hip Hop yesterday (got the words translated of course) and they were spitting some real shit. Once I find the name of the artists, I'll probably enlighten a few. France has some shit going on, even Africa. Hip Hop in these other places embrace HH for the love of it. They know more about it then people from the US. They really would save HH. But you'd have to mean US Hip Hop cause in those places HH is fine. And Im also tired of "dont hate them for making money". People not "all" money is good money. Look at how "money" gives positive and negative effects in all types of situations. Mostly NEGATIVE affects. The world is RULED by money basically because MONEY rules MOST people and look how the world is...it sure aint good. "Big" Money (large amounts) is part of what started fucking HH up in the 1st place. "Dont hate them for hustling, HH is about making money" No its not. Thats just a part of it, not the whole aspect.
BTW, can anyone tell me what beat that was they were rhymin over in Pt. 2? I've been trying to find it for like 2 years now, but nobody seems to know.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^
nahledge,
the beat to part 2 is "real hip hop" pete rock remix by das efx.
someone said sumthn earlier about accepting quality over commercialism...
thats how it is and always have been, as far as the cars built in the 1950's were built to last and the cars we pay an arm and a leg for now wont last thru one bump, same as wit clothes, and same as the way music has changed from the 50's, 60's, 70's, & 80's when our parents were complaining about the music changing, we thought it was ok when we were teenagers but now that we are in our 20's and its not changing the way we think it should be we have a problem. music is gonna change every decade to satisfy the new and upcoming listeners.
well put Donnet. no doubt about what you said imma co-sign with you, Danell and my homie K-rob.
i aint from the south but niggaz act like the whole south fucked up hip hop with their snap music or lack of lyricism. to me snap music aint ruining hip hop is just niggaz like D4L can't produce a good beat with a decent rhyme to go with it, don't just go against the whole region. now are you gonna say the bay is ruining hip hop with their hyphy movement? like some one said earlier if you don't like certain sound doesn't mean you decide wether hip hop is dead.
wats up with Nas changing his album title?
Hip-hop will never die, its just we need to support the artists that are putting out the good music. Back when the LOX, MASE and the DMX's redman, method etc. THe record labels bought into that because thats what the people wanted to hear in the urban market. We have to force record labels to market to real hip hop heads by not supprting bullshit. The only problem left is that "POP" rappers Are reaching out to white america now more than ever, in contrast to groups like Public enemy, KRS, who wanted to appeal to the urban youth adn tell their stories of sturggle. Its up to the new generation of rappers to let it be known that life aint one big party, and remind people of where their parents came from and maybe we'll appreciate it more..After all, i dont got 4-5 cars and bitches everywhere. Most of these niggas kicking that shit aint grow up with that and need to stop bullshitting like they aint never been broke. What we need to do is be alittle more humble, cuz the white man can take it from you in an instant...Ok thats too much
Fuck you. I, also, hate people that sensely hate on EMINEM. All he ever does is give the proper respect to the people that came before him.
If you can listen to "The Eminiem Show" and not at least respect it, then you're a certified hater.
I hate Lupe, but I gave him a chance and he drops some shit. I still hate him, but I give respect where respect is due. Same for Kanye West.
I don't care if you hate somebody (using the term loosely) but don't hate on them.
Shit, Jay said "I don't even hate on those that hate on me; I got Pac on"
"Have you ever heard a corny rap song that you couldn't stand but then you realized that its constant airplay grew on you?"
That's why it's called radio PROGRAMMING. Record labels pay for the songs to get played over and over until you start thinking "Damn this must be hot if they keep playing it". Not this nigga here. Hell no fuck the radio. Fuck Clear Channel. They fucked up urban radio forever.
Hip Hop ain't dead yet, but it's on life support. Fans stand up! Don't let these labels tell you what you want to hear. You tell them. BUY records. Stop bootlegging. You're only hurting yourself and the genre in the end.
And just because I'm a firm believer in backing up your arguments on the talent of a MC with his/her material
A verse from Eminem's "'Til I Collapse"
"Music is like magic,
there's a certain feelin you get
when you real and you spit
and people are feelin your shit
This is your moment,
and every single minute you spend
tryin to hold on to it
cause you may never get it again
So while you're in it,
try to get as much shit as you can
And when your run is over
just admit when it's at its end
Cause I'm at the end of my wits with half the shit gets in
I got a list here's the order of my list that it's in
It goes Reggie, Jay-Z, Tupac and Biggie
Andre from OutKast, Jada, Kurupt, Nas and then me
But in this industry I'm the cause of a LOT of envy
So when I'm not put on this list, the shit does NOT offend me
That's why you see me walkin around like nothin's botherin me
Even though half you people got a fuckin problem with me
You hate it but you know respect you got to give me
The press's wet dream like Bobby and Whitney, Nate hit me"
Em's on my list.
watever,
You're Brail and I'm Blind
Why dont all you dumb fucks stop crying about how hip hop is dying and actually contribute to its proper ressurection?
It aint like you gotta do much, stop listening to radio, start PURCHASING the actual albums of real hip hop artists you support, and sit back and watch the machine crumble. Its dat fucking simple. Nothing happens overnite, but if in the next year Red, Nas, Joey, Roots, Lupe, Outkast, etc put up half the numbers of DFB & D4L, Jeezy, Chingy, Bow Wow, and especially those annoying ass Black Eyed Puss', then watch everything slowly change.
My only wish is that before 2010, we give white people back their techno. For real, I said it before, but all this bullshit ass music where the "rapper" just keeps repeating the same shit half the time is Techno On Weed. Tell me what's the difference? Techno would be saying "blue, im blue, im blue", these niggas keep saying "I think they like me, they like me, they like me, oooh i think they like me..." its still Gay.
Might as well put on a Pink Suit and yell out DipSet.
HipHop criminals:
DipSet
G-Unit(exceptions for Buck,Banks &MOP)
DFB

I can't say hip hop is dead. It won't die anytime soon, but sometimes that shit is real catatonic.
i'm not going to get into a rant about snap music or none of that bubble gum shit.
I am glad hip hop is accepted world wide as a form of music and more or less a culture now. But now that hip hop is accepted there is a problem:
TOO MUCH money is involved...
Big corporate has found a way to get involved on every aspect.
Big corporate has turned BET into a dark skinned MTV.
Big corporate has bought every hip hop label and manage to stifle some of its best artists until they submit and make more bullshit.
Big corporate tells less talented lyricists they can be rich by following a certain formula...and then convince the buying public this is what they should believe in.
Yep this shit is hair bands before grunge smacked the shit out of rock in 91-92.
While we wait for our "Nirvana" we need to figure out why some of the better more rounded lyricists can't make good shit anymore.
Why did Jigga get so lazy on Blueprint 2? What the fuck was Mobb Deep thinkin making some of their shit? As much as I like Talib--why did stop doing shit w/ Hi-Tek? ...
Common came back...some of our favorite MCs haven't been holding up their end of the deal either. Some of it is our fault as fans for not supporting good efforts, and some of it is the artists themselves. 10 years ago a platinum album is holy grail and made cats go to the studio and WORK...now niggas drop 30 mixtapes and a shitty album w/ recycled beats and it's cool.
I don't need Big or Pac back, just give me cats who are hungry like 94-95 with something to prove and we can nurse hip hop back to good health.
Almost every music genre attached to a culture died. Hip hop will die and most of us aint makin it no better by not supporting the real out there...face the facts its gonna die.its just a matter of time and some new culture and music genre will take ova
All I have to say is hip hop was invented out of need. Cats like grandmaster flash and dem were rapping about the conditions of life because they couldnt get heard any other way. Rap has been watered down with all these crappy artist with no talent. Gimmick last a year or so, but Talent last forever. Artist Like Outkast, Scarface, David Banner, UGK, and Eightball and MJG and so on have actual talent and will last, but Artist Like Dead Prez need more air time cuz they are actually spitint real shit. The Prez and the OUtlaws are doing a joint CD go cop that. And Im feeling Papoose, real substance there.
Man i kinda feel the same way that rap not hip hop, thats the watered down fake ass rap, may be dying only because the quality is droppin somewhat and its bein carefully manipulated for the ultimate source evil, money. I'm talkin about Quality in the shit they talk about. And dam can'ta mothafucka have an opinion? You know the hood may not listen to conscious rap but dam dont build a wall infront of it; mothafucas just tryin to get you to open your mind and get you thinking. They got plenty of things to talk about like the politics of today in America, or how bout AFIRKA you fuckin sellouts and how our people are dyin and here you are fuckin around but instead, les keep up the bullshit and deny its negative causes on black people. Rap it seems, Was or use to be about some them things mentioned above but it seem as though its bein used for commercialism to make money as all things are. But dam If rap was as rebellious as it use to be like when NWA said fuck the police how come they dont have the balls to say some wild shit. I can tell you why, its the labels and shit wasn't rap seen as a Black Voice? Droppin some knowledge to those who were oblivious to your situation or area? If anything rap is slowly bein takin away from its roots which originally was bein black and just frontin it and bein turned into some ignorant, stereotypical shit and as joke they make you dress like a clown and not take up responsibility and be a man. Nowadays in today's rap world i feel as though some of these rappin mothafucas dont want their community to change they want things to maintainin the way they are. It's exploitation, they doin it to their own people consciously or unconsciously and for proof aint doin a dam thing for them not even droppin some words of truth. Shit i can talk all i want about bein a real artist and givin back but these fools to worried about themselves to care about you or me or rap; they just like wasup hey f*ck you, buy my album. And i know i'ma get some people directin comments at me and all i gotta say is if you agree cool, if you dont man you get off my d*ck and shut the f*ck up hoe.
