I've expressed my dislike for 50 Cent several times on this blog, so it may come as a surprise to some when I say that I'm actually a Lloyd Banks fan. Back in the glory days of G-Unit (before 50 dropped GRODT), this kid used to be a mixtape monster, consistently killing any and every beat DJ's dared to put in front of him.
But then he dropped The Hunger for More, and I got the impression that the Boy Wonder lost his appetite and he just hasn't been the same since. His flow seemed lazy and unfocused and his metaphors and punchlines just didn't pack the same punch that they did when he was in his prime. Last week My House, the lead single for his sophomore album Rotten Apple, due out July 18th, hit the streets and I really would love to say that I'm feeling it...but I'd be lying.
The Timbaland produced track just doesn't do it for me, and Banks' flow actually sounds worse than it did on the much criticized unnamed version of the album that 'accidently' leaked last year. In all fairness this is a radio single, but on the other hand I actually liked the singles from his first album. I guess only time will tell, but with the Mobb putting up less than stellar numbers last week, I have a feeling a lot of people will be watching how this album does to see if the Unit still has what it takes to keep the title in NY.

I totally disagree about your take on Hunger for More. It's the best solo CD to come out of G-Unit. I listen from 1-14 straight through. The worst song on there is the second single Karma. I hope that this second album is at least half as good. I heard the track my house and it's average. I have to believe that Banks got better songs then this one on the album.

Maybe its good that they don't blow up crazy, cause it may make their music weak. But, then again they are allowed in the hood anyday of the week, no matter how successful they are.

I have my own disdain for G Unit now because they equate platinum success with good music-'Nilla Ice and Milli Vanilli went plat too-the last good album to come from them was Game's. But if Banks album is just "okay", that might spell the beginning of the end for them.

I like Lloyd Banks and Young Buck out the G-Unit camp.
But this single is not gonna cut it. It sounds like he just went in the booth and turned it in. His singles for his first album were tight singles, except for Fire.
And it's clutch time for the Unit. I'm not predicting them falling off quite yet, but the chips are stacking up against them. Yayo didn't do well in the "G-Unit terms". Mobb Deep didn't put up spectacular numbers either. So it's now up to Lloyd Banks and Young Buck. IF Banks doesn't do similar numbers to the first album...This could be the beginning of the end.

On Fire was a better look in the club and in the whip-and cut that shit out about mixtapes...a lot of mixtapes end up being shitty because they are full of verses you'll hear on the album or songs that weren't good enough to make the album.

I am by no means a G-Unit fan, matter fact I hate them, but The Hunger For More was the best solo effort to come from G-Unit and I still feel Banks is the best in the camp by a long shot. I heard that song a couple days back and to be honest it sucks. It doesn't even sound like he's trying. He flows sounds horrible, almost like he had marbles in his mouth or something.
the south is trash..lil wayne and luda are the only rappers worth listening to.
