Kanye West, Missy Elliot, Olivia, Amerie, David Banner, Denver Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony and many others attended the Sprite Street Couture Showcase at Guastavino's in Manhattan, New York Tuesday night.
Models worked the runway, unveiling the latest from Rocawear, LRG, Triple 5 Soul, Etnies and WESC clothing as celebrities, press and tastemakers looked on. Others in attendance included Farnsworth Bentley, Consequence, Miri Ben-Ari, BET's Melissa Ford and Bad Boy executive Andre Harrell.
I don't know much about fashion shows, but one thing is sure - Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Jessica White owned the runway, marching with incredible swagger as each step captivated every eye in the audience. Omahyra (the model wilding out in Jay-Z's "Change Clothes" video) also graced the stage with her own unique flare.
Meanwhile, a lot of the other models were scrubs, especially the males. I mean, what ever happened to criteria? Dudes were either 5'7" or personality-deprived tooth picks. And don't nobody give me no fashion bullshit about them having a certain "je ne sais quoi." They ain't about to be no woman's wallpaper.
I'll never model. But if I was to try and get shut down, your boy would be pissed after seeing some of last night's "models." Dudes couldn't hold my drink if I told them to. Throughout the brief show, one could see Missy, Olivia and Violator executive Mona Scott exchanged laughs as the models walked. The same goes for Andre Harrell and his unidentified partner. I wonder if they were thinking what I'm thinking - these are models?
Things got even better at the after party. Downstairs, Jimmy "Henchmen" Rosemond, Farnsworth, White, Omahyra, actor Hill Harper ("CSI: NY"), Robert Iler (AJ of "the Sopranos") and DJ Clue socialized with anyone willing to mingle, including SOHH NYC. I swear I've seen Leon (Above the Rim) kick it for dolo though. Homeboy was chilling on some blue couch, most likely contemplating his questionable movie role selection.
Earlier in the night, you could hear photographers shouting the names of stars stepping onto the blue carpet. "Missy over here!" Leon? Please. Dudes probably thought he was press. But no VIP here. Stars blended with the common folk. Although Missy's bodyguard did try to cock block impromptu photo shoots. Dude failed though. Peep the pics.
