With a sorry marketing plan (which consisted of attacking Jay's flip flops and a corny press conference) and minimal to no airplay for the video "Wet Wipes" contributing to Cam and Dukedagod's flopped album, it's no wonder Cam has thrown in the towel--or has he?
The underground cut "Laughing at Ya" has surfaced on more than a couple of mixtapes, but I picked it up on DJ Green Lantern's latest "Team Invasion" [Cop It]. The song is decent and has the signature Dipset (also known as Shitset) sound, but pulls in listeners with a few punch lines that are anything but subliminal. The lines are spit by Rell, but more than likely coerced by Cam.
On verse three, Hell Rell takes a shot at the marketing abilities of President Sean Carter with: "Let me see some more Soundscan, what did Bleek sell?/ Teairra Marie, what that lil' freak sell? (nothin')"
Why she gotta be a freak? Oh yeah, and speaking of Nielsen's Soundscan, Rell should've peeped Cam and Duke's sorry first week sales--debuting at No. 53 with 23,456 units sold. Ouch. And by the way, as of Wednesday, May 17th, The Movement Moves On has flip-flopped its way to No. 191, with 55,266 copies sold in total after 5 weeks. That's gotta be a tough break, being an A&R and all. You're supposed to be an ear for talent but can't even sell your own records. Tisk-tisk.
On the Purple City tip, Un Kasa has just released his new mixtape, "Straight Out the Krayon Box":
The first track, entitled "Open The Krayon Box," couldn't match the horrifying album cover more. If you haven't noticed, the Purple City "DVD freestyle king" (says who?) possesses an eerie facial expression that screams he's opened a box of purple haze gone wrong.
This disastrous piece of Photoshop production needs a time-out. It looks ridiculous, corny, and funky. If album sales were based on album cover appearance, this ish wouldn't stand a chance. 5 minutes in the corner, head down, mouth closed.
