In a recent interview with PrefixMag, after being asked whether or not he felt New York artists were jealous over "losing the hip hop crown" as the interviewer put it, Ghostface had the following harsh words for his hometown:
New York lost the crown because the New York deejays gave the crown away for some fucking money. New York be bullshitting. Right know, I say fuck New York. Yeah, I'm from New York, but fuck New York. Because niggas is pussy. They is so quick to jump on the next man's dick and can't even deal with what they got in front of they face.
He goes on to criticize those same New York DJ's for not playing local music and suggests that the city is soft because we didn't riot after the murder of African immigrant Amadou Diallo in 1999. On the one hand I agree with Ghost about the dickriding and lack of support for our music from radio, but on the other hand I think he's wildin with some of his statements.
I first started disliking 50 Cent after he said basically the same thing a couple of years back. Look, I understand the frustration of artists, but you can't go talking slick about a whole city, your city, just because some DJ or program director is taking money under the table to spin Dem Franchize Boyz.
What about all of those New Yorkers showing up at your shows Ghost? What about all of those mixtapes we bought before you signed your deal 50? Hey, we have our issues the same way Houston and L.A. have issues, but comments like those damn sure aren't gonna help.

I agree with Ghost. The reason garbage pollutes the airwaves is because of the DJs. Back in the days the local NY DJs made sure that NY hip hop got airplay. To be from another region and get airplay was hard. Now it's the opposite. The NY DJs today only care about what's popular. Back then it was more balance on the radio. Sure, some might say it is business, but it was business back then too. True fans do not need the radio anyway. To quote the hook to one of Cube's joints "Turn Off That Bullshit...Turn on that muthaf**kin radio".

Ghost needs to calm down. If he doesn't have proof of NY DJs taking payola, then he needs to keep his mouth closed. His album has not met expectations because he is on Def Jam. When are these rappers going to learn? Major labels need major sales. Period.
If he ain't ready to change his style to conform to radio, then just make good music and leave it alone. I'll still support. There are other listeners who do not let the radio dictate their music choices.

I just read today that Lil Romeo's lil song is only getting played in NOLA. Yall know Master P make some whack ass music, but he became a multi-millionaire just from sales in his own region. Unfortunately NYC is a major market and payola rules that joint. So if the record execs say Southern is the "it" thing right now and will only pay for their spins then NYC MCs get no love at home, which is crazy. I know many many fans that want their special flavor of music back on the radio in NY.
