For the most part, these south side soldiers - D4L, DFB, Field Mob, etc- are just a bunch of jokers trying to fit in. Field Mob had one uglyass track that wouldn't been hot if Ray Charles didn't bring meaning to it.

All many different styles, many different messages but EQUAL play on the radio and such. Notice how the infiltration of crack within our comunity coincided with the decline of the "consciencious" lyricists. Then thee was a battle. I remember being at the Spectrum in Philly and N.W.A. and P.E. was on the same bill. This was 1989. As much as I love P.E., N.W.A. TOTALLY to that show on some gangsta shit. I remember Chuck D. saying "Y'all need to get some knowledge instead of that Muscle Beach bulshit." Definitly a subliminal jab at the "gangsta" rap aestetic. But Hip-Hop grew tired of slingin' all day and wanted to show what we had for it. Thus "Bling, Bling" (Fuck what you heard, Little Wayne and them were NOT the first to use that term, Check out KRS-One on "Return Of The Boom Bap" for the earliest use of that term in a song)But how are we supposed to shine like that working 9 to 5? Hip-Hop music went from a complex, varied art form to a caricature of its former self. Either you "Gangsta", "conscious","Party" or "underground" M.C. No one can make diverse LP anymore with being called all over the place. We don't demand excellence so we get this bullshit from ALL OVER not just the South. East coast got bullshit, West coast got bullshit as does the mid west. It's not that there wasn't any bullshit in the past it's just that us "Oldheads didn't tolerate it. So call Rae the mad rapper if you want to, but true heads know he's tellin' the truth.

New Yorkers will always hate on something they don't understand. Snap Music is not whack. Almost 80% of the black population resides in the south.

Lyricists are crafty with wordplay and etc. to me. Peolpe in the south don't like all that craftiness as much as east coast. People on both sides have hated on each other and against themselves. East Coast artists have talked about other east coast artists as well. Ghost called Biggie once. To me, is saying someone is wack, is that hating. No. Its your opinion. People in the south have hated on each other, so all these people saying that they stick together ain't tellin it all. There has to be some type of balance in Hip-Hop. It's not just confined to one certain thing. It's all about variety. If all rappers did was talk about the bad things and issues a black person goes through, then we would never have any kind of rap music to have fun and dance to. If all rappers did was talk about the drugs they sell, then we would have no kind of music to inspire us to do positive things. If all rappers did was rap about parties and the good things, then we would never have any type of music to warn us about the bad things in life and to address the problems of the black community.

Think of Hip-Hop as candy. Almost everyone likes candy (Hip-Hop) in general. There are certain flavors that some people like and there are certain flavors that some people don't like, but everybody is still eating their candy and being happy about it. Even if you don't like certain type of candy, you don't have to eat it, touch it, or ever see it, but it's still going to be there for the person who does want to eat that type of candy. Lol.

And I really don't get how NY people can talk. You guys never really supposrt your own artists until someone else disses them. Example, Nas. I really don't understand why people can't see hip hop for what it is. Hip Hop is a group of our people bringing cultures together, whether it be through rap, poetry, etc. Whats interesting is how we're different, yet we're the same as blacks. Meaning the east coast, midwest, west coast,and south. Every body has something to bring to the table, whether its slang or swagger. For example: the west has its low riders and slang, and the heavily populated street gangs; The east has always had its creativity and awareness as education has been the premise of the region, and the south has a very deep culture rich with rythm and soul incorporated in its music. There are big rims, flashy jewelry, bass heavy instrumentals, melodic flows, etc...Its all a representation of our culture. The crunk music, snap music, the gangster music, its all apart of the culture. Raekwon is right his artistry has maintained, there is just a segment of heads that can't relate to what he is doing in the music. Look! He should not change his overall essence to fit into a fabricated bubble gum Hip pop that exist today.
It's a good thing that Rae stay in his lame because, I think Hip Hop should have various lanes for people to relate and enjoy.
Hip hop now has variuos styles and genreas that will allow everyone to eat. That's why I also feel that we should kill the term OLD SCHOOL, because it adds a negative term to Classic raps acts that could possibly come be relavent today groups like PRT, KRS, PE,and Big Daddy. Groups like this could quite possibly drop an album today and get paid and creat new classic Hip Hop tunes. But that OLD SCHOLL title scares most Hip hop heads and records lables scare them away from the possibilities of new music. In rock and Roll you still see groups that are old as dirt still creating new music; ex. Look at the Rolling Stones, U2, Greatful Dead. Groups like these are still living and creating and have legions of fans. But in HIP HOP we kill our artist off by tagging them as OLD SCHOOL.
P.s I understand that hip hop is always concerned with the newwest hottest style ect, but you must know where you come from in order to get where you are going! Stay true Rae!Stay True Rae!

Now before we continue on any further, we should have a solid stipulative definition of the noun contradiction... Raekwon almost provides as good an example of this concept as his Fish-Fry buddy did a few weeks back...

I was disappointed not by what "The Chef" cooked up in this interview (because we all know Rae, and any former member of Wu-Tang is going to say whatever the fuck is on their mind which is why Enter The Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers will forever be a classic), but because a few weeks ago I had given Rae so much credit for not stooping to the "I'm a grown-ass man who like a bitch hates on the success of others" level that Fish-Fry managed to reach. Go back, check that post, and watch Rae come out in the Braves hat dropping one of the hottest verses in '98 on Aquemini's "Skew It On The Bar-B."

He even mentions how he was the first to bring Outkast to NY, even though I'm pretty sure Dre and Antoine had been there before (Source Award For Best New Artist in '95; before getting boooed), and from many comments on this blog, I don't know if NY will ever truly know who Outkast is so that point is close to null and void. But I do give credit where due...

So with that credit, Rae should stop the generalizations because he knows good and damn well artists Down South do "get busy" because he's worked with the highest selling Hip-Hop group of all time (cough... cough... Outkast... cough...). And, even if you do want to D4L generalize an entire region which you know is bullshit, why hate? Yes, it's true, many of the commercial artists from The South who have blown up in the last couple of years are not on par lyrically with Raekwon and that seems to be why he was pissed. Somewhat understandable point...

But if that's the logic, let's look further. Rae's last commercial album was Lex Diamond Story in '03 when the "New South" hadn't even blown yet. So technically, shouldn't we have seen the names of 50, the majority of Dipset (who have taken Rae's subject matter full-on by the way...), Young Gunz, Memphis Bleek, etc.? I mean they all had and have had albums out after Rae's last album and managed to not "get busy like that" (especially compared to Rae lyrically), yet his focus stayed on The South.

See, little shit like this is where Field Mob comes up with "off-the-wall" hypotheses about people from the East Coast possibly wanting to say "Fuck The South." Now, if they want to test that hypothesis, they need look no further than the deleted e-mails in my AOL account from logicless East Coast Southern Hip-Hop haters (how do I know they're from the East Coast? Well, normally prefacing the "Fuck The South" comment I'll find a "son" or a "b"...).

And let's not be ignorant and act like I'm wrong. Just check about every blog out there anytime something about The South is posted and watch the South Haters come out like the lights just got turned on while they were in a Lucky Charms box (if the author didn't already subliminally or overtly get at The South himself; would say herself to be PC, but the only female Hip-Hop blogger I know of is Tara Henley and she doesn't talk shit like that).

The same way white people will alot of times state they "didn't know they were being racist" (I think back to when Tiger won his first Masters and the announcer brought up about how collard greens and fried chicken would probably be served for the winner's dinner) is the same way East Coast journalists approach The South. I mean, imagine if that same announcer would have asked Phil Mickelson that year, "How do you feel about all these black people winning The Masters?" Jesse Jackson would have been down there the next day protesting in vain as every minority group seems to do in Augusta, GA every year...

Well, that's how Southern Hip-Hop artists/fans feel everytime we read an article with an East Coast journalist asking some 41 year old East Coast Hip-Hop artist/producer "How Do You Feel About The South In Hip-Hop?" The question always randomly comes out of nowhere and usually is quite incongruent with the previous questions. And we all know where the answer always goes. Hell, the particular interviewer in Rae's piece didn't even ask him his views on that, but we got that answer anyway.

So in closing your lost, along with that horrid written expression...

I find it funny that these interviews always have to ask a eastcoast rapper what do they think about the south?...then they ask every eastcoast rapper and some southern rappers how do they feel about the state of eastcoast hip hop? First off, it don't matter where you come from. If you can rap, you can fucking rap. The south isn't wack, New York ain't wack, no region is wack. But the media is striving on this type of bullshit right now because its flashy, its 'cool'. To be honest, most of the population of fans listening to Hip Hop now are white people, and that's all good. But you have to understand where the artform originated.
