Yeah DMX was the Shhhh for a minute. But due to continued crackish behavior, run ins with the law and just stupid behavior he is a disappointment.
I actually though he had the potential to be the east coast version of Pac- in terms of movie making potential.I do not think DMX is as intellegent/smart as Pac was; He did have a hard way to go comming up in the YO but he has yet to get the success that he has seen from his first album. DMX is the one commercially successful MC who really keeps it real, just look at his post-record deal police record, if that doesn't tell you something about his character, then his delivery and presence on the microphone will. Don't misinterpret what I just said as promoting the type of lyrical content and behavior exhibited by the Dark Man, what I mean is that he has remained relatively unaffected by success's sirens, which too many aspiring artists fall victim to these days. It's refreshing to see that there really is someone who spits it how he lives, ya dig?

X is like that friend you had growing up who meant well, but could never stay out of trouble.
It bothers me though, how he is automatically associated with some sort of uncontrollable hood-spawn simply because of the unrestrained hood anthems which he produces ever so adeptly. Many people fail to realize how deep his actual lyrical ability goes though, and nowhere is his true talent more evident than in his poetry:

That was "Prayer" from It's Dark and Hell is Hot (track 17), check it out cuz seeing it on paper doesn't do it justice. And while to compare 2pac and DMX is like apples and oranges, they both should be considered poets, albeit two entirely different levels and forms of poetry.
I think what entices most listeners into becoming fans is the striking amount of charisma X possesses and puts into his music. It almost makes you want to believe everything he's saying. I honestly feel that under different circumstances, X may well have become the next black leader in America. Not a Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton kind of leader, but one that would perhaps follow in the shadow of the late El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz (a.k.a. Malcolm X, to you who live in the absence of enlightenment), DMX certainly has the speaking ability and fiery flare needed to captivate his audience, not to mention the jail time and experiences on the street.

Maybe I'm just talking crazy, but there is definitely more to Dark Man X than he lets on.
