The practice of pillaging an artists publishing nothing new. The biggest examples of companies who did this are the original cold chillin' for you older heads, they had kool g rap and biz markie, big daddy kane and rakim at one point. Oh yeah and def jam!!!(for which now kimora spends thousands of dollars on hair coloring while these artists are struggling to even pay section 8 project rent. This is a practice that has spanned over the entire 20 plus years that hip hop has been commercially relevant. The sad thing is that rappers enter the industry as ghetto-fied idiots and then mature and once they mature they realize that they really aren't making that much money overall but what they've been seeing as number is just figures on paper and from that they get a minimal cut. Hell you have engineers who make more money from a rap album than the actual artist does. I think that's just pathetic and should serve some of the young ones in this genre to actually hit the books because not only do you get jacked in the music industry but also will end up being underpaid to do the job of someone who would be making more to do it elsewhere.

Who said these artist didn't read their contracts or get the lawyers? You guys are just assuming they didn't. I don't care how smart you are or how much you read. It's always somebody that's going to get one up on you. It doesn't mean you can't be tricked or fooled into something.

So whether people want to admit it or not, Puff was involved in these people's careers. He's not the total blame, but he was certainly a factor. That can't be denied. It doesn't mean his roster of artist didn't read their contracts or didn't get the lawyers.

It just means Puff got one over on them. Him being a CEO/owner executive of a label, he had way more knowledge and expertice than the folks he was signing. I'm sure he had his contracts drawn up a certain way, to disguise the trickery. Contracts can be drawn up (or worded/constructed) a number of different ways.

Something can look good on paper, but mean something totally different. If you can't catch that or figure it out, you're had. I don't care how smart or college educated you may be. You can still get duped and somebody can still get one over on you.

It certainly doesn't mean Puffy is not crook (or in the wrong). He mos def is a crook.

I think that Puff is a smart business, it's not his job to teach the ropes of the business. If you want to become a rapper learn the business get a lawyer before you sign a contract. Puff job is to what is in the best interest for him and his family not you as a rapper.
