50 Cent has been called a marketing genius by alot of people for his ability to manufacture beef with just about anybody, anytime, for whatever reason and use it to his advantage. With his movie Get Rich or Die Trying coming to DVD this week and a Mobb Deep album ready to drop in May, we were about due for some controversial words of wisdom from the man who shares his middle name with rap's biggest record company. On Monday morning 50 called into Hot 97's morning show with Ms. Jones and cleared the air about some rumors, aired some people out, and most importantly made sure his name would be a topic of conversation over the next couple of weeks.
One of the victims of his wrath was Spike Lee, who just came off the biggest opening weekend of his career, and has publicly criticized Fifth for the message his music, movie, and video game sends to kids. When the morning show staff played a clip of Spike offering 50 a seat in one of the film classes he teaches, 50 responded that his own movie earned 80 million last year and that he doesn't think the legendary director has anything to offer him. He also went on to wonder why Spike is so quick to criticize his video game, but ignores other equally violent games such as Grand Theft Auto that aren't put out by black rappers.
50 also repeated his comments about Kanye West, claiming that a big reason for his success is the "safe" alternative he offers people who might find his own music a little intimidating. Even though he's probably right, I was most surprised to hear him go at Diddy about how he jerked Big in his publishing deal way back when, and how 50 thinks he's now running the King of New York's memory "into the ground." Personally I think 90% of the stuff that comes out of this guys mouth is a bunch of planned out bullshit, but I'll give it to him, he'll never be the artist we forget about because of lack of publicity.
