Def Jam, Where's the Hip Hop?

Def JamAlot of people seem to think Jay-Z is doing a mediocre job in his role as President of Def Jam Records. I disagree. I think Def Jam has had a hell of year as far the quality of the material they're putting out and the commercial and critical success of that material. You can hate Jay and credit LA Reid all you want, but with the two top Grammy contenders on their roster, it's hard to argue that the label is having a bad year, no matter who's responsible. You also have to take into account that it's Hov's first year in a position that even a seasoned music exec might find intimidating.

That said, I still feel like President Carter has some serious explaining to do to his faithful constituents such as myself. Remember when the name Def jam brought to mind names like LL Cool J, DMX, and Method Man? While I'm glad Mariah and Jeezy had great years, they aren't exactly the types of artists that expect to be repping the legendary logo. If I want Dirty South trap music and sugar coated r&b pop music I'll turn on the radio, but when I look at a Def Jam release schedule I expect to see names like Redman, Ghostface, and Joe Buddens, not Rhianna, Teairra Marie, and Ne-Yo.

We know for a fact the Ghostface album has been finished since last year, but we still have an agonizing month and some change to go before we get to hear it. Redman shot a video for his single, Rush the Security, back in September and I've never seen it, and I'm probably the Funk Doc's #1 fan. Joe Buddens recently dropped what many have called the mixtape of the year, Mood Musick 2, but you're probably more likely to get a release date for Kanye's next project than even a rough estimate for The Growth. I understand you have bills to pay Hovie, but dam can we get some good old fashioned hip hop?

I feel you 120%!

thats excatly why i feel jay is doing a bad job... mariah and jeezy did there own thing jay had nothing to do with that. bleek floppd ygz flopped, tiarra mare flopped rihanna flopped... come on man.. no budden album, llcool will barley break gold as usual.. and thats it.. no redman.. no ghost come on hov.

Word....Jay Z has not been doing too well ^^^ those have been his artists. Sold a few hund'thousand all together!
Def Jam used to mean Hip Hop....now it means...?...laim shit? Kanye is wacker than ever (always thought he was wack!). That shit ain't good for the name Def Jam. But money is what these niggas is chasin'...at any cost! Look at the Source. Same shit....

If it's not New York its not hip hop...

NYC state of mind

pretty fucked up if ya ask me

I feel you too! They should be putting out more hip hop. Hurry Up Nas, the rap game is missing good lyricist!

When u look at it though, rappers are putting out more dis records than albums. It may not be all Hova's fault, he's not holding anything/body back. Rap cats should put down the beef and get out the HEAT, summer is coming!

I think only time will tell. I think of Def Jam as a basketball franchise that's in re-building mode. The artist that they put out there did good, for the first year. That at least keeps the name going. I believe the signing of Nas and Fabolous and new cats like Rick Ross coming aboard, it's just a new thing, a new generation. Although I'd like to see the old roster maintained and given the proper attention, such as Joe Buddens Redman etc....

Well it's jay's job to give a release date he can't be responsible for artist that got no mass market appeal like Bleek and Young Gunz. Most of the time it's the artist not putting in enought work and timing is everything buddens buzz is weak, ghostface has a niche audience, Redman well the kids of this genertation gotta be reintroduce, because he ain't been hot since neverary. In the mean time Jay might as well rock with what's hot. I just wanna know what's up with these album he's exec producing, i.e. Corey Gunz, etc.

You preachin on this blog!

Ghostface, Redman, and Joe Budden are slept on and they all have fire.
With that said Im cofident that Hov and Def Jam will do right by them this year. Jay is on a mission to bring realness back to hip hop.
Come on now...
Fishscale (Ghostface) is droppin soon
Redman is workin on a new one
LL got a release date comin
and Jay signed the Roots!!!!

What more can I say?????!!!!!

SORRY PRESIDENT CARTER BUT DEF JAM BEEN FELL OFF, A LONG, LONG TIME AGO, NUFF SAID.

Are you guys crazy? Jay is running with his FIRST YEAR just fine. He signed the Roots and Nas. COME ON. Plus the Fab deal is almost done, with the Jada deal on the way. This next year will probably be a big one for Def Jam.

No offense but half of the people asking for a Joe Buddens, Redman, or Ghostface release date are people who will be buying a bootleg copy of there album or downloading it. This is going to put these back in the same position as usual. We all remember how Joe Buddens sales were the first time around. Someone like Ne-Yo has a fan base that acually BUYS albums still. If the artist above are this acclaimed, then lets go to the store and buy there albums!!

froget Def Jam, ma label is takin ova, X-plicit Records, for da hatas

Don't jump on Jigga, dude just got in being a president. You cannot put all the blame on Hov, L.A. "Chinese Slippers" "with a lavendar scarf" Reed is the CEO of Def Jam. Put yourself in Hov's position, what would you DO??? You cowards would fuck shit up and already be prepared to cry to your mother, most of you guys do not know a damn thing about corporate business. You are not going to come out winning out the gate. You are going to have successes and some failures. This is a recod label, you are lucky to have 3 or 4 multi-platinum selling artists that have super hits. Give jay some slack people.

Def Jam is like the New York Knicks of hip hop. They have potential but bad leadership. I would say Jay-Z is the GM Isiah Thomas. He has brought in nothing but duds for talent. They are definetly in their rebuilding year.

I like Ghost, Joe Buddens, And Redman more than most people out there, but they have no buzz right now. If they want that push, they have to grind like they did when they first came into the game. The love has shifted to the south 4 now, if u want to stay relevant, u have to work harder to find your niche. Big homie Jay is doin it right, it might not be what long term Def Jam fans want to hear but you have to put out what sells, and it them.

If they stop promoting that bullshit like Young Jeezy and Juelz Santana, and stop lollygaggin' with that Redman, Joe Buddens, Ghostface & Mef. Oh, that new Nas and The Roots too, those are the 6 joints I'm checking 4.

Teairra Mari flopped and she can't sing live, Rihanna sucked and she can't sing live, Bleek sucks, and his album flopped. For the record I actually went out and BOUGHT Joe Budden's first album and will buy his next one. Jeezy had a lot of hype behind him, but I guarantee you he won't have longevity because he's a one-dimensional rapper that raps about the same thing. Jay doing alright. Def Jam hasn't become better but then again it hasn't become any worse.

I think Jay is doing a good job so far. I mean look at the state of rap music today. Yet he put out heat i.e santana, jeezy, kanye, mimi, ne-yo. Thats in his first year people. We know he has buddens, redman, ghostface, and now nas and maybe fab. All I'm sayin his cut him some slack and look for big things in '06 from def jam and the roc

HOV needs to step his game up...that tearria album flop...ghost and these niggas really need pushes for real...i'm a KANYE fan but i'm getting sick of this nigga...another album? B4 Ghost and them....?

Why are Reid & Hov so big on r&b all of a a sudden? I don't mind Rihanna or Ne-Yo but they really need to get that NY Hip-Hop out there again. Put out Ghostface & LL and then stop fucking Budden & Redman up the ass and give them some shine. Red's album has been done for like 2 years or something. It's an absolute joke.

As usual motherfuckers that dont have any knowledge of the music business. Music Business is all about timing. DMX last 2 albums were garbage. Method Man's last 2 Album mediocre at best. When was Redman last project, to busy doing sitcoms and movies. Joung Jeezy, yeah graded at a C+ at a best. But he's almost Double plat. why? You all bought the album. If you dont like bullshit, stop supporting it. Dont let the music change you , you change the music. 2006 will be a big year for Hip-Hop and New York.

YALL NEED TO MESS A REAL HIP HOP LABEL G-UNIT NOW THATS WHATS UP WE GOT THE GAME IN A CHOKE HOLD

Def Jam aint the same cause the rap game aint the same...things change, it aint all Hov's fault.
New Yorks biggest rap artist last year was 50 cent and he aint really reppin yall correctly (singin', tryin to sound southern).
New York niggas need they own sound and style... dont bite! Yall created the shit in the first place.
Jay-Z wants yall to shine, he does what he can to help NYC niggas but they just aint hot right now... If he dropped a Redman album right now It would flop, cause he hasnt been out here promoting himself. All these kids that buy the music dont remember the last time Red had a hot song... some of him just think hes the dude from how high... or dont know him at all (its a shame but true).
Im straight up from Tennessee and I love to see my country niggas shine! But I need some diversity in my CD player too.
Honestly I dont think folk wanna hear REAL hip hop anymore. Its gotten wack!, in some cases wacker than the other types of hip hop that they try to make fun of.

Dat Pon De Replay shit was kinda hot. NOT! Come on dog, how you goin jack Will Smith for a beat?

I think he's doing a great job. Come on people, let's be real. The only thing that a president is concerned about is pleasing his board of directors and inside investors. How are these people pleased? Not by good quality hip-hop. Hell no! All they see is dollar signs. Most of the business people in def jam probably don't even listen to the music. Think about it, before he was there, how many artist were really selling records besides himself and ja-rule (that didn't last too long, but still sold millions). Truthfully, when I first found out that he became president, I thought it wouldn't go to well. Because the artist that were there prior to his arrival didn't sell may records.

I hate to say it, but we're turning into our parents. We late 70's and 80's babies are going to have to deal with the fact the game has left us behind. I remember, and still feel to me 96-97 was the best years in hip hop. Underground, mainstream you couldn't go wrong. Biggie was showing how to do it, Pac was ferocius, and little known fella named jayz was coming out of the woodwork(at least down south anyways). That fool was like Lebron in the rap game. People seemed to try to put they all into the music. But things and times have changed. We getting old people. We gotta get over it. We can't go into our 30's still wondering whats up with nas jay red meth wu dre outkast forever. We about to be in our 30's and they'll be middle aged. MIDDLE AGED!!!! What the hell??!?! But what else can we do except try to keep them alive????

Something to think about.

I blame this whole "hustla mentality" thats goin around. Artists and management to take as much pride as they used to in the music that gets put out. As long as they get that check, they dont care if u buy the cd and throw it out the window on the way home. And they're tryin to get the big money first, by making these records that are gettin played in White Surburbia that the lil white boys wanna listen to so they can be "down", so they grab daddy's credit card, jump in daddy's benz, and hit the mall. They dont know about hittin the street for the mixtapes. They dont know about what hip hop was and how those who were apart of it back then paved the way for those who run it now.

They dont know about Mc Shan, Grand master Flash and the furious 5, Big Daddy Kane...TRUE MC'S that represented TRUE HIP HOP. All they know is what "gangsta" and what cd can make them look fresh when they roll up in the parkin lot, bumbin it! Artists, and "presidents" realize that and are willing to sell out the art
form for new truck money.
Hip Hop maybe startin to become extinct!

You NY cats are laughable...you try to act so hard....but you sound like wankstas..I CANT BELIEVE THIS SHIT!!...About 99.9% of artists NY are wack....Rap music in general is Dunzo..the entire game is filtrated with lame niggas...50 Cent,Fat Joe,Juelz,Cam'Ron,Redman,Bleek,Jadakiss..and that includes dirty south rappers.D4L,DFB,Lil Jon,Youngbloodz,Slim Thug,JD,Juve,Chamillionaire,..I can seriously say that the last real Hip Hop artist was Tupac and everyone since SUCKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

excallent post SCHEMATICS

madeinmiluakee made a good point.we don't support black music or movies but we'll make judgements based on sales yrt we refuse to buy(i'm guilty too) i'm looking 4 those releases too. and tierra and rhianna no matter how they did they're attractive females that are still young and with the right material and timing wiould be the next big thing.u have to have a roster with staying power that can develope as time goes on.r&b artists can do this more so than rap artist because we classify them and as soon as they try something else or speak on a subject they haven't done before we call them fake!! can't a nigga say it's cool to sell drugs and later realize maybe it's not. i heard from friends in the industry noy entertainers but the real industry.in the offices .a coupla years ago taht with the success of r&B crossing over that hip-hop as it is popularized today will be phased slowly out!!so those big money makers that's kkeping up shit better not have a bad year!!! they feel it's not worth it in the long run and this recent shit going on probably make them do it faster!!! you haven't seen r&b get this much of a push in awhile have u!!that want it to go mainsteam. so keep it gutter and maybe we'll catch u on 1 of those vh1 specials> ps my sources works 4 capital rec. and knos ton of execs as well as artist.and i usually tell my friends the biz at least a year before shit is mentioned publicly. so wa6tch what i tell u .but we need that hip hop
that uncomprimising hip hop music to survive it's up to us to make ghost, budden, saigon, stimuli, rhymefest, mickey, lupe mainsteam the way kanye made common mainsteam.... with no compromise say what u want about ye'but he made the mainsteam come to him by saying "i'm the shit u need to be on this" don't y'all feel that way about sumthin u doin' or has done?? tell muthafuckaz u the shit and make us believe it we believe every damn thing else why not YOU!!??........... we're listening...

LL went platinum last time thank you very much

Dexx u have some great points. I've been realizing rnb getting bigger and bigger again and rappers are singing more than rappin (50 cent, juvenile, etc). Rappers are getting more pop than anything and like u said if we dont start supporting artists like kanye, saigon, dilated peoples, lupe fiasco, etc then hip hop really wont matter too much in the future.I think jay is doing okay for his first year.Things will probably get better and Im not going to lie, at this point I listen to more R&B than rap right about now.Well I dont listen to the mainstream put it like that.

DEF JAM RAPPERS ARE INDANGERED SPECIES, NAMELY
1. REDMAN - IRRELEVANT - WILL FLOP

2. Method Man - IRRELEVANT - WILL FLOP

3. Ghostface - IRRELEVANT - WILL FLOP

4. Joe Buddens - IRRELEVANT - NEVER COMING OUT

THE NAMED DEF JAM RAPPERS, ABOVE LET'S FACE IT ARE PASSED THEIR PRIME , EXCEPT JOE BUDDENS, WHO IN MY MIND IS NEVER DROPPING UNDER DEF JAM COS OF HIS LAST DOUBLE ALUMINIUM FLOP .

N.Y FORGET ABOUT DEF JAM RAPPERS , THERE'S ABSULUTLY NO LIGHT AT THE DEF JAM LABEL'S TUNNEL. IT'S ALL ABOUT MOVING UNITS THESE DAYS, SAD BUT TRUE. IT'S A BUSINESS

SPEAKING OF UNITS, G-UNIT RECORDS ON THE OTHER HAND IS IN GREAT SHAPE & WILL CONTINUE TO EXPAND & CONTINUE WITH THEIR MEGA SUCCESS AS USUAL, COS FIF & CO ARE THORO NIGGAZ , EVERY THING THEY DO IS CALCULATED & DONE PRECISE WITH G-UNIT.

JAY-Z COULD DO BETTER......

HIS FIRST PROBLEM IS..... SHYTING ON THE GIRL THAT GAVE HIM FANS IN THE FIRST PLACE THE LEGENDARY FOXY BROWN.... SHE WENT ON AINT NO N!GGA TO BRING HIM SEX APPEAL AND A FAN BASE AND HE GOES AND SHYT ON HER A SECOND TIME... DIRTY!!! HE LOST VISION OF WHAT HIP HOP COULD BE..... TIERRA, RIHANNA, BLEEK ALL WAS WACK!!! 2006 THE YEAR OF THE BROWN FOX!!!!!

schematics I feel you son. I would take it a lil further back then that though. From 1992-1997 wasn't nothing wack. Everybodys album was a classic you could listen to straight through. Since Jay got Def Jam left a label designed for major artist with independent sales (250,000-450,000) just under gold status Jay should put Buddens, Redman Ghost and the Roots out asap since they wont be pressured by first week sales or total sales.

True dat johnny barz. I was just making an emphasis on those years because of the point rap was at. I mean think about it, you don't have the jayz type of rookie coming out from ANYWHERE. Biggie really surprised me, and Pac first album really had me fooled. I thought he really was going to be the first positive artist to take it THERE. Still love his music nonetheless.

As far as Jay, he needs help. He really doesn't know what it takes to nurture any career of a new artist or any of his artist. Honestly to ME beans and jeezy blew up only kuz of they OWN hustle. Jay was too busy doing his own thing.

Now that Nas is in the building, man Jay really is going to be overstretched. I'm not hating on his come up, but he only going to be the president for 3-well now 2 more years, I don't think he really trying to win. I just think he trying not to lose. Maybe I'm wrong.

First of all Jay lucked into Jeezy. He already had a following from the trap or die mixtape. He had nothing to do with his movement. That being said he has only been in office a year. Give him a chance to warm the president's seat. He's got Nas, The Roots, Ghostface, Redman, Buddens and fab will be there in a second. The best has yet to come. If we supported the emcees we crave for then we wouldn't have this problem.

JAY HAS HAD A SOLID YEAR BUT I AGREE THERES BEEN TOO MUCH R&B. NEYO IS HOT BUT EVERYTHING ELSE IS AVERAGE AT BEST. THE SOLUTION FOR JAY IS ONE NAME: PAPOOSE!!!!!!!!11 HOV NEEDS TO SIGN THIS DUDE IS THE NEXT NY KING, A LYRICAL MONSTER. SIGN HIM UP AND GET BUDDENS OUT !

Hov done alright this year, he jsut need to get that Redman album out, and yes I will cop the album, and I agree with KASE718, he need to sign Papoose cos that nigga is the truth. Given the proper machine behind him that nigga could blow.

maybe when rap becomes unpopular i can enjoy it again.the coolest shitthe other day this old guy at least 58 came to give me an estimate 4 some work on a prop. me and my nephew bought next door and i hear somebody bumpin, in front of my house i look out the window and i figured it was some kid for the neighbors then i hear my doorbell and this old guy is there we take care of some business then i notice he goes to the car that was playing the rap!! i couldn't tell who it was he was playing but he was playing it loud!! a few years ago when i was in omaha this old lady used to live acrooss the street always was playing biggie's first album and we used to be like poor lady her grandkids left that on and she doesn't know how to work the radio!1 but 1 day she confessed to us that it was her c.d. and she loves biggie and that bher husband thinks it's the kids doin but it wasn't she just lets him kkep acussing them and she felt bad that theywere getting the blame but didn't know what he was talking about >.we were dying laughing she was at least 65 and they both were white.those experiences make me feel good as a b-boy. just think what we could do if these people could get a broader view of us as apeople. the gangand drug life could explain why it's nsometime necessary to get your hands dirty, the social conscious can explain how we think about what goes on in the world, the country, our city and our minds aren't just confined to what happens on the block, and the rappers who rap about partying canhelpus loosen upand have fun once in awhile. hip-hop used tobe a culture now it's religion . awhile back when people was on that tupac alive shit(i would ask girls that ? when we talk on the phone and if they said yes it was nice meeting u but i'm out) i told this guy who was deep into deathrowstolicism that suge was his GOD snoop and them was his disciples and tupac was christ who died and was ressurected. he didn't think it was funny at first but i thought it was funny as hell. he thought about it and felt kinda crazy when i asked what's the differece between him and a red neck who swears elvis is alive. i don't think crazy has a color.he saw my point.by the way i'm a true pac fan not fanatic alot of these people worshiping him did'nt fuck with him before deathrow so forgive my blasphamy !!i'm not trying to be burned in an iquisition!

DONT SWEAT HOV LIKE THAT HE IS DOING A GOOD JOB HE IS SELLING RECORDS AND HE CANT HELP THE PROCESS SOME OF THE TALENT MIGHT NOT BE DROPPING OUT THE SKY LIKE THAT U SEE THIS YEAR WE GOT THE LAFFY TAFFY BOYS SO IF RAPPERS WOULD STEP THERE GAME UP THEN WE WOULDNT BE PIONTING THE FINGER A JAY HE'S DOPE

I think its the Rap game its self thats missing that "fire" the game is not repping Hip Hop put repping Hip 'Pop'. Now I understand a label has to make money and it is best to start big and end big but dont let that money blind you of the art. Hip Hop needs the 50's the Kanye's and the Games's but Hip Hop's blood runs thick with the likes of UGK, Ghostface, Joe Budden (best mixtape i've heard so far)and E 40.

Look, Jay is not doing a good job or a bad job, he's just there. He ain't really calling shots, he just a figurehead. What artist have they put out that has any groundbreaking success ? You take Kanye and Mariah away, shit you got a bottom of the barrel label. Shit, in 05' G-Unit Records sold 16mil records !!! That's 505xmil(9wordwide),Game3mil(5worldwide),YayoGold(1milworldwide),and the soundtrack1.4mil. We say Jay doing a good job only cause we like him. He's not doing good people.....Young Jeezy went Platinum, but their is no anticipation for his next album. Def Jam is blowing alot of smoke up our ass !!! Ne-yo will go platinum I believe though....

Fuck jay-z, that nigga is mad whack, homo ass bitch ass nigga, and fuck nas, fuck ny rappers except 50, he the only nigga doing his shit, 5mil shit, he did more than anyone in ny put together, fuck the roc fuck blackwall shit fuck thm gay dipshits except killa , his name should be killa clown hahahaha fuck them 50 and the unit holding it down for us ny

The same people that say G-Unit is the shit are the same people that are fucking up hip hop. G -Unit is a collection of mediocre talent at best. 50 is the head and there's at least 10 NY emcees better than him lyrically. I'll admit he makes catchy songs but that's because the nigga is singing. When was the last time 50 said something that made you rewind the disc. NEVER. Name a verse that's a hip hop quotable from 50. The emcees with true skills never get a chance to shine. People like Mos Def and Kweli get pushed aside for 50 and Yayo. We need some balance. Video programs play the same songs. MTV and BET are both owned by Viacom so we get the same music. Fuse is the best music channel and they're from canada. Bring back the real hip hop we need or I'll leave hip hop alone period.

"THE GAME NEEDS ME"

Uniek I'm feeling you on that one. 50 ain't got no damn business outselling somebody like Common, Mos Def, or Talib Kweli. Fuck BET and fuck MTV. Mainstream hip hop is gonna be dead like pop in about another 5 years I guarantee it.

BOSS, SORRY HOMEY. JAY-Z IS IN HIS SECOND YEAR AT DEF JAM.

AND TO THE REST OF YOU DICK RIDIN G-UNIT FANS...

OLIVIA=WACK, HIS I MEAN HER ALBUM IS INDEFINATELY SUSPENDED DUE TO WEAK RESPONSE.

YAYO=WACK, NOT EVEN AT 200,000 UNITS. NIGGA IS DOUBLE COTTON.

MASE=WACK, YOU BACK AS MURDA? LOL

SPIDER LOC?=WACK, SO WACK THE ALBUM WILL NEVER COME OUT.

BANKS AND YAYO, Y'ALL TIGHT. GET THE FUCK OUTTA THERE!

im gay

okay kids, I know school is out for the day so please tell your dad im ready to fuck em. I like mixed guys. so please suck my dick. i love mexican dragqueens also

hey young whiteboy dollaz

i told you to drop the name bitch, now you postin gay shit, you better change yo rap name!

uniek, the reason the so-called true emcees never get a chance to shine is cause nobody buys theirs albums. i bought mos last album and it was mostly wack and he was "singin" way more than rappin. these so-called true emcee's get the same video play as er'body else common had 4 video's for his last album and i saw all of them constantly in tv. bottom line people just not feelin them. if people liked them they would be sellin like hot cakes. nothins holdin them back. same company that sells 50 cent sells the black eyed peas and their last 2 albums both went 4 times platinum. and they don't rap about gangsta shit, they even breakdance, pure hip hop. kanye goin multi platinum doin his own thing and showin skill.

and ALL these artist are signed to one man Jimmy Iovine. do you think he wants any of his artist to lose? only one he doesn't have is anymore is talib and that's cause he flopped.

Ghost - Its over..irrelevant, the last Meth album was wack and how long did it take for him to release that shyt..? Red..gona FLOP and U kmnw i..Nas - a light in the tunnel...

Hip Hop is for the kids folks... times like 96/97...80's... that tym is OVER homies..Wu aint commin back...

NY Rappers r wack !!

Aston Drake: How in thew hell can you say redman and jada are wack. They shit all over any rappers fom the south, infact there probably two of the best MC's around at the moment. You aint got a clue what your talking about.

DEF JAM IS BECOMING MORE LIKE THE MODERN DAY KORCH AKA THE WASHED UP RAPPERS GRAVEYARD

Nahtino,

I FEEL U HOMEBOY N.Y. RAP IS DEAD.I WISH DEEZ N.Y. GROUPIES WOULD GET OVER IT.IT'S 2006 NOT 1996.
REDMAN,COOL J,RZA,JOE BUD,GHOSTFACE,METH, ALL DEEZ RAPPERS HAVE SEEN THERE BETTER DAYS. IF ANY1 DROPS A ALBUM THEY WILL NOT SEE ANYTHING CLOSE TO PLAT.

R.I.P. N.Y.

koch

truth is before mixtapes became the new talent show 97% of rap artist had local followings luda, nelly etc. a&R stopped listening to demos a decade ago
maybe more (no unsolicited material). if u wasn't coming thru a lawyer or production co. u wasn't being heard.they didn't want people claiming they stole they're music and getting sued.A&R are som lazy mo fo's they used to hear potental thru a static filled cassette tape now ya shit has to sound just like it would if it was being put out now. unless ur a teenager u have to grind so jay just took a few chances and sign some relatively unknowns that's what u do shit whitney houston was turned down several times before she was signed .there r more hands in it than just jay's so u can't say every flop is his fault and the success stories belong to l.a. shit there's a bunch of mo fo's on the pay roll there i'm sure they have job descriptions!!! at 1 time def jam on hit maker was ll but the general public didn't talk shit about russ,or whoever the hell was pres. i'm just saying everything don't start and end with jay. tierra and rhianna i still say can blow up !!! look at the lack of talent out there that r household names!!! i didn't like theyr'e shit but i don't like most shit!!! but they're no worse than ciara !!remember fugees shit flopped and everybody said the girl should go solo and leave them wack niggas alone .but next album they blew the fuck up all of them.beastie boys were booed every show when they opened up for maddona ,when the album dropped it broke records,i can't explain it shit just be like that sometimes so don't count anybody out.even if u don't care 4 them!!

for real jay came into a fuhked up situation over at def jam. when kev liles and lyor cohen was there they wasnt really backing nothing except the r&b stuff they had. they put buddens album out which was ill and gave it no promotion. then they put ghost album which also was hot, and no promotion. i know the artist can take some responsibility, but he the def jam name alone use to mean greatness right now its just another label. hopefully things will change with jay at pres. but if it were la reid running things himself def jam would've been bankrupt by summer.

Aye the smart moves jigga done

1-Singned Nas
2-Stole the Roc from Dame
2-Stole Kanye from Dame
3-Signed Fab

but even though he aint helping by not giving proper respect to lyrcist. I mean what is the world coming too when you cut on the radio and all you hear is DFB and D4L. WTF!!!! Them dudes spit the hottest garbage I ever heard and the funny thing is kids go out and cop that trash. The problem is the younger generation dont value poetry, atisticness, and lyrics. All they wanna hear is "shake that ass girl" and "#$#$@ that nigga". I'm only 23 years old and I'm disgusted right now with the state of Rap and hip hop. What happened to the Big L's, Pac's, Scarface, and B.I.G's. Even old rap head starting to sell out to make loot. I remember when 50cent came out, I aint gonna lie I thought he was gonna push shit to another level. But son is just stuck in beef mode 24/7. He getting at niggas now for no reason and he starting to sing like Ja Rule! WTF!! He dont even remember why he mad. I aint bitching ya'll but I am one demoralized hip hop fan.

I was finished until I read this stupid niggas comments, talking about NYC rap is dead. He said "TEXXXAS P.S -Stop Snitching hahahha

I was finished until I read this stupid niggas comments, talking about NYC rap is dead. He said "TEXAS THATS WHATS UP"..LOL...whew. Aye son you gotta be a comedian first of all listen to what you saying " that's watsup" that's NYC slang coming out your mouth right there son. Everything ya'll copycats spit or do down south is a twisted up version of what we started. Matter of fact ol school NY and CA heads been rocking grillz before ya'll could afford them. We been putting rims on the wips before the Hotboys. Whats a classic album to you son? For me its Nas's It was written, or Biggies ready to die. You probably think Lil Jon's last joint was a classic. Listen stupid study up on the history of things before you open up your mouth cuz you just embarrissing yourself. I mean now DFB talking bout they're a movement..come on they got that shit from harlems own Dipset. Niggas probably didnt even know what movement meant til they heard Jim Jones say it. Man ya'll some biting ass cornballs down South. Just dont be trying to talk shit when yall can't mess with no NYC lyricist and thats whats really good. yaknamean.
P.S -Stop Snitching hahahha

Yeah, Def Jam hasn't released a hip hop album in a minute, but they are signing quality hip hop artists. It's like a game of chess, they're setting things up and when it's time to move, checkmate!! Def Jam needs to sign the Boot Camp Clik. Tek & Steele's Reloaded is a tight ass album.

Look I dont know why niggas and niggettes don't think the south wasn't riding clean since riding clean been the shit. I can go back to 85, when all niggas was trying to do was cop them new caddies.

We wasn't trying to ride in them compact shits like up north. I seen all the footage, niggas wasn't riding like that in the eighties. Besides that nigga from the sugarhill!!!!!!!!

Down south been riding clean, I know!!!
I was here QUEENSS, stay on what you know. We always had on that nice gear, and stayed fresh and clean. I dont know what you mean by all that other stuff. You gotta speaking on some other shit.

Grills was made to make some money, nobody said the south started grills. Jd said he was about to create an epidemic because he knows white america is about to cop them grillz if nelly rap about it. Its that simple. If yall was so damn far ahead, why didn't yall invest in gold and platinum(like smart on-top-of-your-game people do) and make money too instead of just ignorantly talking down.

I have yet to hear a south nigga claim some shit first that nyc did first. Did yall wear grills first? Yes. But the south made it popular. Did yall have the first uptown nikes? Yes. But we made them into airforce 1's and made them more popular.

Matter of fact, it just so obvious I gotta sing about it--"Anything you can do, I can do better...I can do anything better than you." Simply put, the south uses good ol southern hospitality and people aren't scared to try it. Ny rap is like a cult. Worship us or you're not real type shit. Get the fuck outta here.

Niggas is making money without yall. D4L is showing you that they don't need you. New york, go ahead and follow Ghost advice and get your whole state not to buy an album from the south. I guarantee that niggas numbers will not change.

If hip hop was an ipo, ny don't hold even 30% of the capital. Yall not controlling shit, ya feel me? Yall not stopping shit by complaining. You need to step ya hustle game up. If you aint in the RAP GAME to make money, then continue to sit back watch how much these "fad" rappers make.

I could name a few artists who had classic albums but you wouldnt understand it anyway.

hell naw!!...

My homey has XM radio in his car and the otha night he switched to an 'ole skool' hip hop station.

Why was OOCHIE COOCHIE by MC BRAINS on there playing?

Now for the young'nz... Oochie Coochie was a 1990's LAFFY TAFFY. Actually, this nigga was more explicit than those D4L cats.

See hiphoppers...every year or so there is a LAFFY TAFFY or OOCHIE COOCHIE that some hate and some love. I think that when you finally find that song that you can't stand, you may begin to question how old you're getting. Although I didn't like Ooochie Coochie when it came out, I found myself singin it today and feelin nostalgic.

I will not be singin Laffy Taffy in a few yrs.
I am 26... officially in my late 20's and offically gettin old.

Like the one cat further up said, the game is leaving us behind. We all gettin old (true hip hop heads, I mean).

Jay Z is doing his best to stay with the times. If I was a label head trying to make some moves, I woulda thought both of them wack & B princesses would have sold (Rihanaa and Tierra Marie). Hell yeah I'm gonna hang everywhere with Jeezy when his album comes out. The south is hot and them Boyz N The Hood niggas made a lil noise.
Like someone else said, unfortunately them NY niggas gotta create a buzz 4 themselves. Houston and ATL are way hotter. He is focused on Nas, but other than that I don't see him gettin behind otha cats like that. I luv Ghost (Fishscale sampler was tight) and I used to luv LL (video is turrble), but I don't think they are gonna do well.

Oh, and yeah Kanye has been dressin xtra fruity lately, but that album was the sht. Judge a man not by his looks, but by the content of his hot azz album. Yall sound like Jim Jones hatin on Kanye. Jim and Cam dress fruity too, but if them nikkas put out a hot album you could play start to finish I wouldn't hate on them so much.

Don't hate 'Ye! ChiTown, beeyotches!

Oochie Coochie La La La, Oochie Coochie.

true true.where the fuck is red gone wild and the growth.somebody doesnt believe in their artists.

even tho i loved his shit schooly d wasn't a fresh mo fo ,the songs were be he wasn't(espcially his problack shit suxx)i thought epmd was wack at first when i heard ur a customer but i loved the song i always liked it's my thang and later seen how tight they were.i thought biz needed to be shot i thought he was embarrassing when videos became popular ithought he waf wack untalented and retarded being exploited ididn't know if he was serious! love the nucka 2 def now. i realized how important they all were to the growth of hip hop despite what i thought they shit is classic and can't be duplicated even biz's horrible version of the beatbox. maybe the same will happen with these newcats that i don't like (doubt it!) but who knows.

QUEENS,

"WE COME DOWN IN CANDY LAC SLABS, YALL ROLL IN FUNNY ASS JEEPS"-PIMP C

BXCONNECT TOLD ME U YANKEES DIDNT NEED CARS BECAUSE YALL HAD THE BEST TRANSIT SYSTEM IN THE WORLD.WHAT A STUPID ASS STATEMENT!

AYE IF U FEEL LIKE WE COPYING NY THEN IM A TELL U LIKE PAC TOLD BIGGIE WHEN HE JACKED HIM FOR HIS BEAT "HITEM UP".WE TOOK YA SHIT CAUSE U WASENT ROCKING IT RIGHT.

LUV HOW WE MAKING U NIGGAS SICK.TURN ON YA RADIO WE PUTTIN IT IN YA FACE.

R.I.P. NY

THATS ME WHO WROTE THAT

lets get one thing strate, as an emcee hov was mediocre to good, not great.

if B.I.G. was alive, J-Z may never have sold more than gold himself. he became "the best emcee" by default. When 2PAC was alive, he was clownin that fool Jay-Z, and Nas killed him in the "ether." So if jay-z couldn't even handle Esco in a battle, that should let u know he aint the greatest like he claims.

BIG would have smashed NAS in 2 bars. 2PAC had a handle on NAS from the grave and smashed him in "AGAINST ALL ODDS."

Now back to Jay, he has some great lines but overall he did too much biting from BIG, Snoop, PAC, and others. These JAM, not def jam, artists suck.

All these little r&b cats is garbage...that ne-yo song sound like some fake usher shit. I hate when people say a song is hot cuz it comes on a certain label or a someone like JAY is backing it. DUDE ne-yo look like a baboon, nigga got a face that is perfect for behind the camera and writing songs (which he is good at, no doubt).

They strate up fishin with that nigga
--trying to find an immitation usher.

The first song he did was some upbeat dance-type shit, now he on the ballads. They trying to hard to push this fol. Next he'll have lil jon in his video talkin bout "YEAH, so sick" and "WHAT, of love songz."

Im tired of these images and ready-made artists, the public has to be smart enough to know when the label in puttin out trash.

joe buddens was supposed to be a smash hit, no-brainer. now they talkin bout we gonna rework JOE and repackage him.

if they, meaning the artist, dont smash the game on their first attempt, it is very rare that they will ever do it big.

many of you asked to name one line that 50 has said that people quote..now how many of you in this blog alone have said that it's chess not checkers...the famous line from piggy bank!!!

Get 'EM Schematics!

You speaking the truth bruh. Its just that NY cats are so dillusional and stuck in their own world that they dont want to hear it. Like you said its '06 not '96. The glory days of hip hop are over. Yeah those were good times and everyone was making classic albums, but you have to accept that times are different now. Not better(dont get it twisted) just different. Therfore, niggas need to adapt and come with something fresh and new. Not just sit there and "Region Hate."

The problem is these niggas still think that tired ass New York flow is still hot. It's not! And you wonder why labels arent looking for NY artist anymore. You niggas have flooded the market with carbon-copy MC's who sound just alike. You niggas have no presence, no charisma and most importantly no creativity. The rest of the country is not feeling that same ol' New York formula anymore. Just accept it. Come with something new and then maybe you can be on top again. Until that happens, these country niggas are still gonna be running the rap game.

And whoever said NY was riding on chrome before the South needs to be slapped! NY may have set alot of trends but that is one trend that did not start "up-north." You niggas didnt even think of putting chrome on your whip until you came Down South and saw everybody riding clean and sittin high of the road. You NY cats trip me out man.

real TalK

NYC STARTED AND WILL FINISH THIS HIP HOP SHIT.

FUCK A CANDY CADDY-LAC ON SWANGERZ...WHEN U RIDIN AROUND IN A DUSTY ASS LOW-BUDGET LITTLE TOWN, YA SHIT IS GONNA LOOK LIKE A DUST BUCKET ON SWANGERZ.

SOUTH SHIT IZ GARBAGE...TO MY POINT...WE IDOLIZE BIG OR FOR SOME HOV, THEY IDOLIZE BUN B...AHAHAHAH.

SCARFACE GETS LOVE, BUT THEM OTHER NIGGAZ IS BUKAKE FROM THE SOUTH. NYC CATALOGUE IS TOO DEEP TO BE FUCKED WIT.

THESE NIGGAS QUOTIN PAC, BUT PAC WAS BORN IN BROOKLYN, FOLZ. WE TAUGHT THESE NIGGAS, WE BIRTHED THESE NIGGAS. NOW THEY ACTIN LIKE A STEP CHILD, TRYIN TO RAP WITH NO LYRICS.

CHAMILLIONARE ALBUM IS GREAT FOR INSOMNIACS, LIL FLIP ALBUM IS GREAT FOR THE BACK OF MILK BOXES, T.I. ALBUM IS GREAT FOR SLIDING UNDER THE SHORT LEG OF THE TABLE OR COUCH. BUN B ALBUM IS GREAT FOR SNEAKIN SHANKS INTO PIMP C BEHIND BARS, CUZ NOBODY WILL DARE INSPECT THAT TRASH. YOUNG JEEZY ALBUM IS A GREAT ADVERTISEMENT FOR LUDENS COUGH DROPS AND CHLOROSEPTIC SPRAY.

I CAN SEE IT NOW, HAVE A COUGH DROP OR YOUR VOICE WILL SOUND LIKE YOU U SWALLOWED FROZEN SNOW.

D4L AND DEM FRANCHIZE BOYZ ALBUMS SHOULD BE PURCHASED TOGETHER AND USED AS BOOK ENDS FOR YOUR ENCYCLOPEDIAS.

DEEZ SOUTH NIGGAS IS WACK WITH RAP, THEY FUCKIN UP THE NAME AND THE GAME.

oh yeah i'm from chicago and i HHAAATTTEEDDD!!!! house music and the whole culture of it and alot of mc's "sold out and made hip-house records and we would bash them cuz dj international washell and rocky was atan himself to us!! (but i liked jungle bros.i'll house u cuz i'm a hyprocrite) it was straight culture clashes even college stations dissed each other and mainsrteam dj's and so forth 4 playing house music or hip hop music on air. but when i hear those house songs now it bring back memories as well as the hip hop records i used to listen too.if u was a b-boy in the chi on the southside and liked house music u better listen to that dhit in the house stealth style .it was no house or r&B UNLESS IT WAS SUMTHIN ORIGINAL and rock music yeah b-boys here used to bump bdp and led zepplin and indie rock that's how we found original samples and learned to like yhe music.nobody wanted to use the same shit evrybody else was.it like the exact opposite now.even back then 10 nuck could sample the same record and make it they're own . u knew who it was by the sound and how the sample was used before u heard the voice, that was when it was an art form.sorry i tend to ramble but like iwas saying the house shit sound pretty alright to me now!!

IM PLANIN TO TAKE OVER NEW YORK AND START EXPANDIN,

WAS BOB MARLEY SINGIN ABOUT TECHS WHEN HE SUNG IM JAMMIN.-50 CENT

say what yall want but even i hate to admitt it but the unit an 50 cent are runnin this shit right now and this is coming from the mouth of a nigga who is craving for that raekwon purple tape part 2 and that new ghost buddens and red, but im also smart, if them niggas drop they will flop because like on very intelligent individual said on here " we always complain about our favorite artist but we dont support them we download or buy their bootleg shit instead of going to the record store and buying the real"

with all that said im done trying to advocate the bring back the real hip hop shit because hip hop has been infiltrated with wiggers, just plain ignorant ass niggas, and corporate execs who could give two camel fucks about what the true form of hip hop is.'

my advice to yall is dont complain about it, do somethin about it. start a movement. in protest go to the local music store and buy your favorite mc's album; ( common, the roots, ghost, rae, dead prez, mos def, nas, wu, buddens, or whoever you feel the game is missing) because if we just keep bloggin then we aint doin shit but just sitting around with our thumbs up our asses while the world passes up by. now im going to start my movement today, what about you??????

DONT TALK IT IF YOU AINT WILLING TO WALK IT- BIG L ( R.I.P )

UM, Y'all is Buggin:

Hate 2 burst your bubble, but 50 stole that line from Denzel Washington in "Training Day" and Denzel stole dat shit from my high school b-ball coach. It's an old saying, they ain't quoting your boyfriend. Oh and by the way, dats not a rhyme, if we were quoting 50, we would qoute the rhyme, not da phrase.

Back on topic: I like Jay, but I can never forgive him for shoving Bleek down our throats over and over again. People said, Red, Joe, and Ghost don't have any buzz, when has Bleek or the Young Guns EVER had any buzz? Any business man should be able to see dat Bleek ain't never sell and he never will sell, I know dats your little homie, but you puttin other people's careers in jeopardy for dat wanna be rapper, which ain't cool.

"YALL MIGHT BE JAMMING TO THEM BUT YALL SHITTY TO US"-BUN B

R.I.P. NY

ok here it is..I am a redman fan just like many of you on here but I saw his last video..that gilla gouse shit and it was wack..very boring to be honest with you...I don't think red has what it takes to be a big name any more in music because his time has past..just like dmx...he was that thug nigga we all wanted to follow and now his time is gone..joe buddens is and will forever be an under achiever..he is not wack..just no real appeal to him besides someone who can spit..just like jada..he can spit but he is getting real boring...hip hop as a whole is changing and we are moving back towards people who can make us move in the club...I am not in anyway saying that D4L or DFB is the wave of the future..but that is why people listen to them..we have to move away from the serious mentality of us being oppressed and start to have fun..that's why NY rappers have so many beef records...you have to give it to 50..he never let any of his beefs get in the way of him still putting out quality material...singing or other wised...

actually that verse that i qouted was from a verse fif spitted in a song called " Rowdy " which was a song a little sound track called " IN TOO DEEP " and if i belive that movie was out YEEEARS before training day.

so get ya facts straight homo err i mean homey.

JAY-Z IS A FOL, THIS JEWISH NIGGA LIOR COHEN GOT OUT THE GAME CUZ HE SAW DEF JAM WAS FALIING FAST.

SO HE LET JAY CONTROL THE SINKING SHIP AND SHIT IS STILL FLOUNDERING.

JIMMY IOVINE AND INTERSCOPE GOT THIS RAP SHIT ON LOCK; THEY MAKIN IT HARD FOR NIGGAS TO BREATH OUT HERE.

TO QUOTE GANGSTA DRESTA AND BG KNOCKOUT FROM REAL MAFUCKKIN G's: "EVERYDAY ITZ A NEW RAPPER..."

THESE MU FUKKIN RAPPERS IS GARBAGE, I AINT GONE FRONT NEW YORK RAPPERS ARE ALL SAYING THE SAME DAMN THING.

I DONT GIVE A FUCK ABOUT HOW MANY DRUGS U SOLD AND USED, HOW MUCH MONEY YOU DONT HAVE, AND CARS U DONT DRIVE, AND HOES THAT A DENYING U UNTIL YOUR ALBUM COMES OUT...LETS MAKE LYRICS ABOUT SOMETHING.

THESE NYC NIGGAZ IS ALL PATTERNIZED TO BE LITTLE 50's. 50 ALREADY LOCKED THE GANGSTA RAP MARKET, NIGGAZ GOT TO DO SOMETHIN NEW, EVEN 50 IS EASIN OFF THAT GANKSTA SHIT, HE KILLED IT.

WE GOT THE BEST PUNCHLINES AND CREATIVITY IN NYC, BUT NIGGAZ ARE NOT EXPANDED THE BODY OF KNOWLEDGE...BIG ALREADY TOLD US ABOUT BEEF AND HUSTLIN, PAC DID THE REVOLUTIONARY THUG SHIT...BONE THUGS BROUGHT THE RELIGION INTO HIP HOP. OUTKAST TAUGHT US ABOUT BEING AN ALIEN...FROM OUTER SPACE...

WHO GONNA INITIATE NEW LINES OF DIALOGUE IN THE RAP LYRICS...ITZ LIKE THE NBA SLAM DUNK CONTEST, IF NIGGAZ KEEP DOIN THE BETWEEN THE LEGS DUNK, THEN SHIT GETS WACK.

A BETWEEN THE LEGS DUNK IS GOOD THE FIRST 10 TIMES U SEE IT, BUT THEN ITZ LIKE AHH NIGGA DO SOMETHIN ELSE...A BETWEEN THE LEGS BLINDFOLDED DUNK...SOMETHING WE AINT NEVER SEEN, LIKE BETWEEN LEGS, 360 FROM THE FREE-THROWN LINE.

U FEEL ME?!

BLOG THUGZ BEWARE...HAHAHA

LETZ NOT GET IT TWIZTED, THIS IS WHY I GOT LUV FOR THIS NIGGA 50...IF U LISTEN TO THE NIGGAS SHIT BEFORE HE HAD THE DEAL, NIGGA HAD LYRICS AND PUNCHLINES...

BUT 50 KNOWS THAT PUNCHLINES AND LYRICS DONT SELL, SONGS SELL, SO THAT NIGGA SWITCHED UP AND IS MAKING SONGS WHILE NIGGAS IS STILL TRYING TO SELL PUNCHLINES...DUMB ASS RAPPERS.

SMARTEN UP...JADA BIGGEST HIT TO DATE, WAS THE ONLY SONG HE MADE : "WHY?"

AND LETZ GET IT STRATE, EVERYTHING JADA ACCUSED 50 OF DOING HE DOES HIMSELF: HE TRIED TO BE POP WITH SHINY SUITS (AND DONT SAY PUFF MADE U DO IT, IF U A GROWN MAN TAKE RESPONSIBILTY), HE MADE LOVE SONG WITH MARIAH (K-I-S-S ME-EEE-EEEE--EEE AND I JUST WANNA MAKE LOVE), AND KISS TALKS ABOUT "U MAY HAVE A FELONY BUT U AINT A PREDICATE,"

WELL, WHAT FELONIES DOES JADA HAVE? WHEN HAS JADA BEEN IN THA BOX, SINCE THAT IS WHAT HE SAY MAKES U TUFF?

AND LASTY, KISS SAID, "IF YOU THINK IM JIGGY..." CASE CLOSED.

Look I am tired of everyone makeing excuses hiphop is pulling its own self down a hole you cant blame anyone but yourselves. Jay is not at fault accept for this.. He rushed Bleek and Young Gunz Albums( we always new Bleek wasn't gonna do numbers but he is entertaining for a hot couple of songs, Young Gunz lost why because NO STATE PROP and honestly NO DAME, I worked there 1st album on promotoin even though it didnt go gold well know it did DAME told promo teams treat his artist like the Plat..all of them and if you look at ROC 96-2003 nobody did number but JAY, KANYE,CLUE, CAM and BEANS ( gold)so stop complaining Ill tell you why JAY will win as President. TRU LIFE the kid is for real, THE ROOTS ( they do there own thing), NAS ( every 3rd album is classic.. its his time) Jeezy, RICK ROSSE, FAB( been shoulda been a DEF JAM ARTIST, DJ CLUE..Now I agree GHost is gonna do it this time for sure.. NEO is good period, BUDDENS needs a release date he is HIPHOPS theropy most personal dude ever on the miC) he NEEDS PAPOOSE like i need A million bucks..... AND FREEWAY WILL BLOW THIS YEAR FORREAL.....DOnt quote me but they signed this real wack kid from Baltimore and young leek.. I want hime to flop LOL

Now here is a list of artist defjam could sign and make a mint with
1. Papoose
2. Scram Jones
3. Jae Millz
4. NEK ( Bossman already on Virgin BMORE hey....)
5. Talib Kweli
6. The Clipse
7. Stack Bundles ( could be the new DMX)
8. Heres where they could blow forreal though.. a group album from
NAS, JAY and G RAP with Primo on the beats it will never happen though

HATE IT OR LUV, THEM NIGGAS IN THE SOUTH AND WEST IS MAKING MOVEMENTS: CRUNK, HYPHY, SNAP MUSIK, ETC. -- ABLBEIT WACK, THEY INNOVATIN SHIT, WHILE DUMB NYC CATS IS ON THE CORNER STILL FREE STYLIN...AND HUSTLIN FOR STUDIO MONEY...NOT HUSTLIN SELLING THAT OOH-WEE OR THAT ROCK, HUSTLIN IN KFC AND BURGER KING ON FORDHAM ROAD.

Now here is a list of artist defjam could sign THAT WILL NEVER SELL:

1. Papoose
2. Scram Jones
3. Jae Millz
4. NEK ( Bossman already on Virgin BMORE hey....)
5. Talib Kweli
6. The Clipse
7. Stack Bundles ( could be the new DMX)

Now here is a list of artist defjam could sign THAT WILL NEVER SELL:

1. Papoose
2. Scram Jones
3. Jae Millz
4. NEK ( Bossman already on Virgin BMORE hey....)
5. Talib Kweli
6. The Clipse
7. Stack Bundles ( could be the new DMX)

THESE NIGGAZ ARE RESHUFFLED BUMS OR JUST PLAIN BUMS. CLIPSE ARE GARBAGE, THEY ONLY WENT GOLD AND HAD PRODUCTION FROM ONE OF THE BEST IN THE GAME...THE FUCK OUTTA HERE. PAPOOSE CANT SELL UNTIL HE MAKES A SONG, PLUS HE SOUND LIKE BIG L AND HIS VOICE ANNOYS THE SPEAKERS

LOL......YO I'M FROM NYC , BUT I HAVE TO AGREE WITH THIS DUDE ABOVE ME 100%.......I'VE DONE MY RESEARCH AND THERE ARE A FEW NAMES IN NY THAT HAVE BEEN OVER LOOKED...FOR ONE THIS ARTIST CALLED P-MAJOR FROM UPTOWN...WWW.P-MAJOR.COM...HE'S THE CLOSES AS FOR AS THE TOTAL PACKAGE...LOOKS, FLOW, RYHMES, VERSATILITY....REMEMBER I CALLED IT P-MAJOR IS THE FUTURE...HINT HINT...RECORD LABELS!!!

P-MAJOR IZ MORE LIKE MAJOR-P, THATZ MAJOR PUSSY. U HEARD IT FIRST, THIS FAKE MAD SKILLZ, RAT-LOOKIN MUFUKKA IS GARBAGE.

right now real hip hop is dead... the only real hip hop albums that out to me are the boot camp shit.

Jigga is not a business man he is a MC.He good at that. But fa real.WHy is Rihanna droppin a 2nd album? What about Teairra Mari?He doesn't take care of his artist at Rocafella either. So Jay need to step down cause it just not working.

I feel ya'll east coast heads, but being from Chicago I appreciate Kanye's music and understand why he is blowing. All the ex- rock artist that Jay took a chance on is what I don't understand. I miss Ghost like the rest of ya'll I miss Red and Meth like the rest of ya'll, when we refer to hip hop we are speaking of the deep rooted NYC artisit Nas, Rakim, types that make niggas feel like hip hop is stil a cultur. Jay bring hip hop back to us!

People killing Jay after 1 YEAR?? Are you kidding me? Everybody needs time to establish themselves. 1 year isn't enough to pass judgement. As far as numbers go, how many rappers are doing big numbers. 50, Kanye and Jeezy. That's it. Bleek will never shine in the shadow of Jay and Young Gunz? Come on.

As far as 50 and G-Unit having anything on lock, I give you Tony Yayo. That didn't exactly fly off the shelves. And Olivia? No album. Y'all give 50 far too many props. 50 was sitting on the shelves at Capital records doing nothing before Dre and Em saved him. Is he smart businesswise? Sure. Is he a great rapper? Not even in the top 15.

why does the game have to be controlled by any particular region at any given time. there was a time when there was balance, thats what we need right now. u can have d4l dfb ghost red joe all in the same hour on the radio. but boy i think they like me 3 times an hour is ridiculous.

"U GETS NO PLAY IN TEXAS YA SHIT DONT BUMP IN THE TRUNK"-PIMP C

R.I.P. N.Y

i agree with anyone who says R.I.P. NY

to tha lone star state, you are a lone star state in hip hop. yur one lone star is scarface, the rest of y'all cowboys, rodeo champeenz iz garbage

my fear used to be that hip hop would be done like they did grunge.these people had thy're own dress, speak, music etc. some corporate types came in said.that's hot right now we can take this far!!exploit the music and culture then white people a few years talkin about grunge is dead!! how the fuck u jack some one lifestyle then decide it's played out!! they was doin the shit years besore mtv and years after just because it's not the hot sound no mo' that's fucked up!! but then again maybe it's not my fear but my fantasy for hip hop. less pressure 4 overnight successes.and the people who enjoy the shit can argue about what's hot and who's not because i'm arrogant when it comes to hiphop someone can tell me what they like and why i,ll respect it but someone who's not a b-boy.b-girl,poet,producer,oroverall fan of music in general can't tell me shit!!!

FUCK ALL U DRAPED OFF AND DRIFT OUT MUFUKKAZ: "ERRYBODY KNOW Z-RO FLOW IZ FERROICIOUS"

THA FUCK OUTTA HERE...Y'ALL CLOGGIN UP THA GAME

R.I.P. ALAMO AND TEJAZ

"ERRYBODY KNOW Z-RO FLOW IZ FERROICIOUS"

HAHAHHAH

"ERRYBODY KNOW Z-RO FLOW IS ATROCIOUS"

Lets not dis the TX too fast, over the years they have entertained us all with some pretty hot shit. UGK, and Face held TX down for years and Bun B is on the rise. I think the misconception of southern rap is that it's just that "rap" not hip hop. NYC boys or B-boys got love for hip hop and not so much rap music. Think about that for a minute there is a difference, for example Rakim is hip hop, Pimp C said himself "this aint no hip hop record these is country rap tunes." Respect the hustle of both sides of the game and let the music be what it is.
But that nigga Z-ro is wack as hell HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

NYC is stuck in time. Notice how the most highly anticipated albums for 2006 are by rappers who have been making records for 10 years plus and in their early to mid-30's.

*
Busta Rhymes
*
Cam'ron
*
D-Block
*
Ghostface
*
LL Cool J (never highly anticipated)
*
Ma$e
*
Mobb Deep
*
M.O.P.
*
Raekwon (not highly anticipated)

I'm not saying "old rappers move on" but are there just no hungry high school drop outs eager to get on the mic? Where is that next LL Cool J to usher out Kool Moe Dee? It's time to find some new blood. NYC needs a Gameplan.

LOL

R.I.P. N.Y

Its Paw Waw Baby ---- WHO? WHO? Mike Who? R.I.P Texas

scarface hardly goes gold while yall let them two lames go plat +.

R.I.P. Texas...bye bye lmao

yayo went double plastic

his record is platinum worldwide.
yayo is more popular overseaes and he cant even leave the country cause hes on fed supervision!!!
and talking about hot verses from 50:
i'm popular thats why the police know me
its cause of this rap shit im rich now homey
and when youre not around i got your bitch all on me
she wanna be my wife now
she like my lifestyle

aight aye look cornballs fist issue I want to address is Im not a hater I like some southern artist that actually have some Lyrcism to their flow. Im not gonna front I got T.I's album, Ludacris's, Slim Thug's, and Scarface's old joint but you aint gonna convince me after those few diamonds in the rough that the Crunk and Snap music is Hip Hop. If you want to talk about loot then I guess G-unit and Dipset running shit right now cuz they sellin the most units right now in Rap. 50 made 70 mill last year alone and the kid from NYC! It aint about making money for all you figure spitters but its about the words behind the song that means something. I mean songs that make you feel the whole scope of human emotion not just the club joints. But I guess Im expecting too much from yall. Next subject LL cool J was rocking ice and w had rims on his ride back in the day and that was before any of them crunk artist was out. Im telling yall its about to be the re-emergence of NYC this year I mean look at what yall saying:
"thats whatsup"
"whats really good"
"real talk"
even your favorite rappers listen to my favorite rappers that should be telling you something young scappy.
Aye and I agree with only one point that this one cat made, maybe if us NY cats stop beefing with each other and start battling these pop artist we'll show yall who really running things. I mean Imagine Cassidy battliing mike Jones LOL. Shit would be a massacre. Or JRwriter battlin Lil flip, can you say Game Over. Cmon NY lets Smash on these faggot ass pop artist and take back hip hop.

PS-I got love for Common Sense and Kanye too, Mid west got some lyrcist too

All this started when Rus and 'em sold off the shares to DEFJAM. DEFJAM is now part of the cooperate money making scheme machine. They all about profit and I promise you that all those artist that didn't sell will probably never be heard from again. Oh and I saw the Redman Video on MTV2 once.

Running a label is a lot of damn work. Talk real. What do you have and what can you do to make sh.. platinum. Word on the streets is that Chicago has new releases from artist SERIUZ. Dis nigga is sick wit biz. He's got some investors backing him. Kid is nasty on the mic... yo

Lol Jr Writer battling Flip would be wack vs wack.

While Budden(no s at the end damnit) is nice his first cd was awful. "Fire" was an 8 on the Laffy Taffy gayness scale. Would be nice to hear Red drop a cd when he's not cooning it up with crap like Red & Meth.

Also, just because a rapper is from the east doesn't mean its hip-hop. I'll be damned if Budden is in the same category with Krs or Ra.

O. G. LOC you da lamest nigga on the planet for dat one B D4L what the fuck.
