Your album not dropping on aftermath is one of the biggest disservice ever done to the hip-hop community.

What is Realist talking about? Just so you know, the reason that Rakim hasn't gotten any shine or exposure in the last 5 years is because Dr. Dre only wanted him to release ganster shoot em' up shit while he was signed to Aftermath and Rakim wasn't on that.
Last I checked, Dre was and is a Black dude. AND Rolling Stone (a white owned and predominantly white read publication) has given Rakim much respect over the years.
AND I (arguably the biggest cracker on this thread) am a huge fan and supporter of Rakim. I was listening to his shit since I was like 6...and still do. Matter of fact I JUST broke some green up on the album jacket for his Rakim "the master" album (have you even heard of it?)...so fuck you.

As a kid from Mobile, AL (no drawl and don't care for southern C'rap), I grew up listening to East Coast-based hip-hop from the UTFO's, K. Blow's, LL's, Run-DMC, Ultramagnetic MC, Mantronix... Am I getting your attention? But the person who was always the symbol of what hip-hop should be was always Rakim (Eric B along with that too)... He was the fork in the road that changed the path of hip-hop from bubble gum rap to full on lyrical sustenance. Those who disagree need a history lesson and need to be immersed into "Follow the Leader, Microphone Fiend" and other classics from Ra for about an hour and you'll hear Nas, Canibus, Talib, Common and other children his words gave birth too.
Now at age 35 (yes kids I'm old), I still listen to and love hip-hop even in some of it's lesser forms, but make no mistake about it, I still listen to the God, the legend, the champion of real hip-hop, Rakim Allah, on the regular.
By the way, I hated to get like this but whoopyaheadboy you're a biatch for dissing Rakim and god knows what the reallist is talking about.

Rakim is without a doubt one of the greatest MC's of all time and he's still got it. You had to be a major influence on the hip hop icons that people such as the late Notorious B.I.G. (rest in peace) or late Tupac Shakur (rest in peace), as well as MC's such as Jay-Z, Nas, D-Block, Little Brother, Common, Talib Kweli, etc. etc. Anyone that lived & breathed hip hop has some Rakim Allah in his or her collection. And yeah, I'm from the Chicago area, but even I'm contemplating a move to New York to help bring back that NY movement....ain't nothin' wrong with incorporating some of that Southern goodness, Western g-funk, the hypnotic island beats outta Jamaica, it's all gravy but damn yo New York does need to come back and I think it's on its way back.

Rakim is one of the best ever but I still have to give it to Jay, with Rakim at a very close 2nd. He was the best in his day and he's still better than every rapper out there...,with the exception of Jay. Jay doesn't write his rhymes..he does everything in his head (as seen on Fade to Black). They said Biggie did the same thing but we don't have any proof of that. Rakim is and always will be the God of this rap game but I think Jay took it a little farther. Dre didn't want Rakim spittiing that gang bang music because he doesn't have busta spitting that gang bang music.
One love to Jigga man....by the way....has anyone realized that Jay not saying nothing back to Cam has made Cam the laughing stock of the rap game? He even went as far as to send Beyonce text messages. Jay is showing how to really handle your business.
That new Jay Z commercial with Hewlett Packard is FIRE!!

This is what we all must overstand, the music industy makes money from a mass of people. If we choose not to accept or listen to this garbage that's in heavy rotation today then the music execs would have no choice than to give the people what we want. You also must overstand that we are(people of color, so called minorities) part of a 1,000 year plan. A well thought plan designed to forever keep us from elevating together. This is why the record execs. no longer supports the Rakims' or KRS 1s' in the Hip Hop community. They are afraid of being exposed and even more afraid of us (minorities) uniting and becoming the majority. We need Rakim Allah back in the game to elevate the masses as well as to show these non believers how it's DONE.
PEACE TO THE GODS

hate it when you only hear one said of the story...
truth of the matter is egos bumped heads....dre, being a control freak that he is, as well as a perfectionist, was directing rakim whut to do, and was directing whut dj premier whut to do and they wasn't with that because they were legends of their own right and should need to be told this or that....
dre probably DID tell rakim he needed to be more "street", but i don't thnik he meant it in a gangsta kind of way, but similar to how nas is...rakim on the other hand, did WANT to rap that street shit, because he done shit like "know the ledge" and "the ghetto" before and he wanted to do something different...
plain and simple it was artistic differences...HOWEVER, busta submitted to dre and did EVERYTHING dre direction him to do and he's coming off whut most say is his best album ever....
and maybe rakim, as great as he is, NEED someone to give him direction...because i PRAY this upcoming album isn't going to be like his LAST album, which, BTW, featured premo on several tracks...."the master" was pure GARBAGE!!!

Young Hova, I saw Fade to Black (it was amazing). But I DO NOT believe that Jay-Z comes up with all that ish' in his head. Well, what I mean is, the Fade To Black flick should not be considered proof that Jay-Z only comes up with his lyrics from the dome. It was a hour+ long film and it does not prove that his decade+ long career consists of lyrics that he came up with off the top....although that would explain why he uses so many other MC's lyrics in his shit....just kidding.
The reason Rakim is the best is because, with him, you're looking at a guy that completely flipped the whole cadence of MC'ing at the time.
Before him, the flow of MC's was pretty stagnant or similar from one artist to the other. Yeah, some people flipped it a teeny'tiny bit here and there, but Rakim just came and flipped the typical rap cadence on its head. I mean, just look at the "sip the juice" single from the Juice flick, or "don't sweat the technique" and compare it to other shit coming out during their respective times.
Plus, have you all ever noticed that Rakim dosen't look stupid despite the fact that he's an older head? What I'm trying to say is, so many MC's are gimmickey and so as they get older they do soo much to look and act younger (LL Cool J) that it just looks stupid. Not Rakim though, he made a cameo on the Truth Hurts "addictive" joint with grey spots on his beard and shit....he did nothing to hide the fact that he is an Elder Hip-Hop head and (to me) shit like that makes him a timeless artist...he reminds me of these Jazz cats that can still crush their arts and remain cool despite being older than everyone in the room.
Bottom line, NYC views are breath taking and Rakim is and should be the most respected MC amongst true heads.
Yo...whatever happened to Peace???....P.E.A.C.E!(echo, echo echo)

I'm in no way attempting to say that some f'ed up shit hasn't happened to black people throughout history, BUT that's not an excuse for the MADD POSTERS (you remember the MADD RAPPER, right?) on here to be spewing hatred and exagerrated 'woe-is-me' claims left and right. TO ALL THOSE WHO THINK THAT RAKIM ONLY LEFT AFTERMATH FOR "CREATIVE DIFFERENCES" AND NOT FOR THE FACT THAT DR. DRE WANTED HIM TO GET MORE STREET:
YOU ARE WRONG!
HERE IS THE PROOF, STR8 FROM THE GODS MOUTH: (PEEP THE INTERVIEW)
XXL:
Back when you were leaving Aftermath, you said in some interviews that Dre wanted to go in one direction and you wanted to go in another. What exactly did you mean by that?
Rakim:
The artist that I am is the artist I want to remain. My integrity and my pride for my craft, hip-hop and the hood is something that I don’t want to play with. Dre, I respect him. He’s a smart cat, man. He knows what’s in the mainstream. But at the same time, picking the guns back up and talking about a lot of the dirt that I’ve been around and seen, I don’t think that’s a smart move for me right now. I respect the people that I been around. I respect the neighborhood too much. I don’t want to play myself short with that. The things that I’ve seen and the people that I’ve been around is real people. I respect them, and I’m not going to do nothing to put them out there.
****************************************
Boom....and this is only ONE interview, there are a ton of others out there where he says the same shit....so read before you speak please.
Yeah, yeah, I know...he HAS spit on some street tale shit "know the ledge" and so forth....but he does NOT advocate it like AFTERMATH artist do....hence the term "know the ledge" aka "don't FALL into that bullshit"....
I'm done here...

I don't have an illusion about what I say here making a difference, but it's fun just to say shit sometimes. To that cat realist talk, I don't know how much farther from the truth you could be. And honestly, this is why I hate on Nas a little bit, despite him being an excellent rapper, because he disseminates alot of stuff that I think is against the best interest of Hip-hop. For instance on "I Can" Nas's first two verses are great and then his third one is a schitzophrenic history lesson that links events that happened almost 2000 years apart and try to pass it off as fact. First, no honkies ever tried to to trace their ancestry to the Egyptians. I'm dying to know where you got that one. And as far as insisting that the Egyptians were black (which has been WELL established now that it wasn't the case) WHY THE SHIT WOULD YOU WANT THEM TO BE? THEY WERE THE ORIGINAL SLAVE OWNERS!! Most scientists look back at the pyramids not as marvels of human civilization but monuments to the bottomless cruelity and frivolity of humanity. Plus Nas will say some shit about 'it's a lie that we came from apes'. Thanks Nas but there are plenty of Republicans out there waging war on science, the last thing they need is your help. As far as whites not being on the ground floor of hip hop you need to study your art son. Watch Style Wars and tell me how many white graff artists are on that. How it was ever in the interest of hip hop to make it a race identity thing boggles my mind. BET does more damage to blacks in America as far as purpetuating stereotypes and bolstering extremely negative roll models than anything honkeys due. If you were really concerned with the plight of black people, you would see Hip Hop as a form of outreach to the suburban community to help change the vicious cycle of inner city life. Y'all made rap republican and now it shits on black people just as much as whites do.

so its official:reallist talk is on crack and needs rehabilitation.
im white and i dont listen to bullshit like g-unit i like old and new school, and shit outside of rap too.dont assume all white hip-hoppers are 13 year old wanna be gangstas pumping commercial crap.
and another thing, dont call white rap fans wiggers unless they are truly acting or trying to be black, something they are not. i am many of my friends are big fans of rap and we simply are not wiggers.i respect black people and every other race, because we are all people.
so realist, when you check out of the rehab clinic and learn to type a proper response, respect others and dont claim white people or anyone else is trying to infringe on anyone's culture, because anybody can enjoy everyone's contributions to entertainment.
peace.
