So Jay-Z wasn't at the VH-1 awards. So what! If you ask me, do I think he should've been there for Kane's & Biggie tribute, and who better to do tributes to them than their own fellow Brooklynite Jay-Z? The answer is YES! I thought that would've been the stand up thing to do since Kane pretty much gave him one of his 1st shots in the industry and BIG was a vital part of his career. But who am I to judge him or even speculate what he was doing that night or why he wasn't in attendance? Besides all the money VH-1 could've supposedly made by Jay-Z appearing, I think we're all forgetting the fact that for this particular show, who cares! It's not about the money or noteriety, it's about viewers tuning in to watch and pay homage to the true legends of the game, for the younger audience to witness what true artistry is about, what a bunch of real MC's and supergroups are all about in their performances, and putting it down the way it should really be done, compared to some of the artists in this day and age who have no respect for the culture of hip-hop and no showmanship whatsoever.
So Jay-Z didnt go, booo hooo, I'm a big Jigga fan, but if the man couldn't attend, he couldn't attend, that's understandable to me, period. Mr. Cee was Kane's former DJ and helped Biggie's career earlier on, but he had a prior commitment that night for a comedy show that he was under contract to DJ for, so that's also fully understandable.
But with all that said, what a great show for hip-hop, even if it wasn't for a BET or whatever, it doesn't matter. So what VH-1 in recent years started adding hip-hop to their rotation, even if they didn't do it way back when, they're doing it now, and honoring those who should be honored and notarized for in their respective histories of the culture. Someone has to do it, so biggup VH-1 for holding it down.
