What Does BET Think About You?

I purchased LB's cd tuesday and it's great... I watched the video online and I think its really well put together and it tells a very relevent story with hip hop today... BET are just hating because its too intelligent for their execs... all i know is it is in rotation on Much Music and Much Vibe in Canada... god bless them canadians... fuck BET.

BET the sad reality of today, how do you think MLK feels? How do you think Marcus Garvey would feel? Our own music is TOO Inteligent for OUR own eyes and ears...where is the cultural upliftment? Why aren't we delivering a positive stance within our own people?
Now BET wants to crack jokes "Now pay your damn cable bill!?" Wow what is going on? Marvin Gaye's track is still relevant today it seems but now its based on OUR people! Black exec's STAND UP don't you see what you are doing, yall are ethering yourselves and at the same time poisoning our young kids!

ever since BET canceled Hits... its been goin downhill... BET used to be wat u watched when u was gettin freshed up at the barber shop... now everythings pop... 106 n park looks like the dating game... rap city got framed pix of 50 cent... wtf is up w/ all that?... now they think i aint smart enuff to understand a video... n we all broke... im tellin u... since they canceled Hits i been feelin like fuck BET.

BET is barred from my television. I already told my family don't even think of putting that bull on my TV. I'd rather watch MTV -- at least I know what they're about and how they get down. Aint nothing worse that supporting a network posing in blackface to exploit and destroy us.

What I don't understand is why BET hasn't improved since the deal with Viacom. They cut out the news programming and added a few old sitcoms from other networks. We can't get any new sitcoms? The only new programs they have are the reality shows nobody cares about and the new videos. Why is 106 and Park the only show that doesn't reruns during the weekday? On the weekend all you get is reruns. Viacom owns MTV, Vh1, UPN, Comedy Central and look at BET. It looks cheap and it is full of videos. I agree with big squid, on MTV you at least know what they are about and they are not trying to put on a big front. Our people wonder why we are being stereotyped, look the only network that represents our people. They are feeding into the stereotypes.

I careless about BET.

Is it not painfully obvious at this point that all major media outlets have siezed control of the coporate arm of rap music, therefore allowing them to in turn contort it's image back at the public using these same outlets? Anyone who watches T.V. or reads most "urban" magazines is willingly poisoning their own mind, by internalizing these oppressive images. There should be a level of conciousness with consumers to where this is already a given and known. Since there is not, the conciousness raising begins now, and we are all have that responsibility to raise it. Banning these institutions is the only way to rescue rap's most visable artists and even aspects of Hip Hop itself, from this captivity.

It's very disrespectful the way BET attempts to reach black audiences. The cable commercial is just another black stereotype being perpetuated in the media. They believe we will look at it and laugh and continue eating our Watermelon and Chitterlings. It's so very sad. I wish there were more alternatives for us to choose from. Until then, BET (Black Exploitation Television) will not be my cable channel of choice.

People actually get mad when I call that station "The Negro Channel."

They don't properly represent OR respect us. Why should I respect them and their stereotypical portrayal of black people to be accepted the world over by those whose primary exposure to us is through their television station.

Maybe it's the term "negro" that's getting to everyone. I would use "The Minstrel Channel" but they apparently refuse to play Little Brother.

Interestingly enough, if the video in question is "Lovin' It," I don't see what's too hard to grasp.

I trully believe that BET is the cryptonite in our black community today. the only type of PROGRAMING (check the word) they show are that all black people sell dope and rap and all black woman are here to be sex cats for the hood. Our young people are watching and the PROGRAMING is working very well if you look at the young people today. Every responsible black person should BAN BET FOR THERE HOUSEHOLD.

Viacom has a two pronged plan and from their eyes they win either way. One, BET stays around and they get to continue to send the same messages to our children for years, brainwashing them with how we're supposed to act. Or, two, Viacom wants to get rid of BET, so lets keep showing the same crap and get rid of any worhtwhile programming until black folks get fed up, stop watching it, ratings plummet and now we have a reason to close up shop. Either way Viacom gets what they want.

And I thought I was the only one who though BET was going downhill in terms of quality. If the dissent keeps on rising, its only a matter of time until BET and any other stations like it fall, due to lack of ability to adapt to the problems at hand. We may not be much of a thorn in their sides now, but we will grow and they will care.

Damn we are so misrepresented, even on our so-called "Black Entertainment Television."

BET in so many words has belittled the intellegence of the black community (the youth especially) to the point of no return. I was very critical of the station during the Katrina Hurricane for their lack of air time and basic information in a timely manner. I was furious by their audacity to continue playing videos and bullshit while our people were drowning, getting shot at, raped, assaulted and neglected by the government.

Why did it take over a week to do "Saving Our Selves?" It should have been called, S.O.S.A "Saving Our Stupid Asses." This was the time to Give our Black People what they needed instead of what the media says they should want (e.i Hoes, Rims, Drank, Drugs, materialistic B.S) and they dropped the ball... again

This is just one example of what continues to happen with a network that continues to "Shuck & Jive" it's way into our minds and perpetuate the same tired shit.

BET is a joke. There are obviously some big wigs with an egenda behind all of this. They love to see black kids ignorant and dumbed down and music that has any social value is a threat to their agenda. They want D4L and these ignorant geechie rappers to mold the future african american world. Oh well. What can you do? BTW, the media determines what kids like, not the other way around

I told ya niggas to stop fucking with BET until someone else fills the void they'll continue to exploit the monopoly that they have. I am feeling MTV2 though I wish MTV/Showtime networks would go all the way with the shit and come out with a real competitor for BET but it is what it is, for now anyway. I remember when MTV2 was some fucked up rock videos nobody wanted to watch, I'm sure they must have been bleeding money until some "genius" came up with Sucka Free Sundays.

BET been at the shit for a while now, what like 25 years? It'll take some time, plus I doubt anyone is willing to really throw in the resources unless you could put some shit for the latinos or some other minority in there. That'd be some hot shit, like reggaton videos on top of rap videos and whatever. But no one would ever do it. IMF has some interesting shit but they play old videos from last year too much.

Much as I hate BET, keep in mind that Viacom taking over the shit puts it into a more profitable, commercialized perspective, rather than continuing with a lot of the shit that wasn't working, yet was good for the black culture so of course they don't respect the viewer because they want to make money.
