This is a stupid post and all--some useful information gone to waste on second-rate speculation... Now, I got no beef with someone breaking into a store stealing food, water, dry goods, but damn near everyone I saw on TV were stealing guns, tennis shoes, electronics? Not to mention women are being raped, people shooting their family members for bags of ice, snipers firing on hospital workers trying to evacuate... Shit, Bush couldn't go to New Orleans anyway because someone would try to kill him. He was already losing approval ratings--this hurricane is really gonna hit his ratings hard. And for everyone that didn't vote for Bush, you could say they didn't want his help from the start--they didn't want him in office right? Look at the both sides of the story, I'm not gonna stoop to say that there is no racism going on, and yeah its taking a long time, but unless you're out there helping out, don't criticize--how long would it take to get you out there lifting people off their roofs?

I agree with you. I think there is a racist spin on the way this is being covered by the media. However, I have seen a lot of people stealing televisions and what not. That I don't understand. If you don't have a pot to piss in nor window to throw it out of a television or DVD player should be the least of your concerns. I live in the DC Metro area and the local news coverage has been mainly covering folks stealing sneakers and police officers whippin folks asses. If I had children in a situation like that I'd loot, steal, "find" or whatever other term people want to use for it. There are over 25,000 people in that damn stadium and the bathrooms have not been functional for 4 days. Food nor water has reached them in the same amount of time. The living conditions (if you can even call it that) are deplorable. Can you imagine that shit? Water is contaminated. There are corpses floating around which could cause other types of problems. G. W. Bush said no to heightening the damn levees around Louisiana (another one of his brilliant executive decisions). If I was his ass I'd tread very lightly cuz one of these days somebody is going to get fed up enough to just shoot his mothafuckin ass.

We are if nothing else a resilient and self sufficient people. This situation will give us an opportunity to show to what degree. Ya'll be ez.

Its a messed up situation right now. You have those who are taking from stores for the right reasons and purposes, and then you have the theives just takin shit for no reason messing it up for everyone else. Why doesn't it seem like the media isn't fully sympathic to the situation? People are distraught, at their last end, and most likely going literally crazy, its madness. But that shouldn't stop others from getting rescued. I bet if this was Beverly Hills, or L.A., the rich would all be safe, and that's even including their lil puppies as well.
But it's not even about that, our people need to be saved. A life is a life, regardless of color.

I realize some of you may not know this.....but alot of the flooding and other damage could have easily been prevented from this hurricane. It's messed up but a lot of the damage could have been prevented back in 1995. They've always known that a hurricane would basically wipe out N.O., this was no suprise. The city asked that the government helped them replace the leveys with concrete barriers. In 2001 FEMA asked for money to fix the leveys but Bush deemed it not important enough and last year the Army Corps of engineers asked for money to fix it and in turn the Bush Administration cut their budget......so basically since 2001 Bush cut the bugdet to protect N.O. by 44% and now the city sits like Atlantis because of it....

It is true that the levees could have been fixed, but still they were only designed to withstand a level 3; Katrine i believe was a level 5. Only God could save those ppl. I do agree that Bush should have been worrying about what was happening at home before trying to heal the world, cause those ppl now are in more need than the Iraqis.

The looting is playing into the stereotype of what some ppl think about black folks, but that's because there in there comfy recliners watching it on Fox news and they don't have to deal with it.

I don't think the aid has anything to do with votes, but for Bush to ask those ppl to be 'patient' is unacceptable. We are one of the most developed nations in the world. Sending aid shouldn't be a problem. Yes, they will probably have to wait for certain things, but to be patient and not have there survivial instints kick in is unrealistic.

The way the government is handling this very sad situation is tacky. What's next? Bush start linking this hurricane to Al-Quaida and the Iraqis....I really feel sad for all my people in N.O...Mississippi...and other areas affected. In response to Beauty Within's comment...Unfortunately, I myself am not financially stable enough to leave my family at this time(I have a 3 year old daughter and one on the way within weeks)I am a part-time college student and have a full time job,but am still on active duty in the USMC. If I am summoned to participate in the relief process I will reluctantly accept this duty, but selfish as it may seem I must support my own family at this time.

The definiton of Hurricane Katrina means CLEANSING OF THE THE GREAT FLOOD. I believe revelations is starting up. And those people that survive need out help, and the ones that doing the shooting, leave them. I watched fox news last night and reporters like Heraldo Rivera and Shepard Smith was keeping it real. They were angry and highly emotional about the federal govermnet is ignoring people that needed help. People are angry and Blanco needs to resign. People taking tv's, dvd's, shooting, fighting, killing and raping are all together different. They are "Looters" and just, generally speaking, overall thugs and those assholes deserve universal condemnation. You guys are smart, discern the difference between the two when you see them. You really think that even if it were some other city relief would get there instantly? Don't you know it takes time to put stuff together especially for thousands of people? They aren't trying to enforce Marshall Law, the military is just trying to make it safe for help to get to those in need. When someone who stole guns starts shooting at a helicopter trying to rescue someone or a police man gets fatally shot while trying to help, something should be done to stop the violence so no one else gets hurt. Doesn't that make sense? Just quit trying to make this about race because it really shouldn't be, especially when there are more important things going on. Another problem is that outside of Fox News and CNN, this story got no coverage immediately after the hurricane hit. It was deemed okay, the levee broke later, not Monday evening.

Why is no one blaming the Mayor for having over 100 schoolbuses sitting there flooded, when those could have been used to get the poor out? The way things work is the city does things first, then the state, and the feds simply coordinate things. There will be revelation of plenty of mistakes made, but Bush si not the blame. Bush declared it a disaster area before the storm, unprecedented.

The area affected is larger than Great britian, the nearest few military bases were ruined. They are having to send in help from further away.

I have been saying all along that one of the main "officials" that deserve criticism in this matter, perhaps more than anybody is the mayor of N.O., and then maybe just a little less so, the governor. It appears that they had absolutely no plan at all for relief (disaster prep, evac prep, securirty prep, the list goes on) for dealing with such a situation. What i find interesting is how so many people wanna blame the white guy (code word Bush) for all that has gone wrong. But wake up folks, Bush runs the country, nagin runs a city (very poorly too i might add) and the governor runs the state. Initial security, evacuation, and immediate disaster needs (1st responders) are the the Mayor, and governors responsibility. I think it is shameful that he was cursin (keepin it real - which i'm sure in some circles will get him props but not where it matters), and yellin about "we need help". In 1927 there was a famous senator and plantation owner in Greenville, Miss by the name of LeRoy Percy. He was well known for amenities he bestowed on his black workers. He provided decent housing, created schools with qualified teachers and of course, religious instructon. His darkies were the best of a rotten bunch. He even spoke out against the KKK. However when flood waters came to his town in Miss. he showed his true colors. All his benevolence went out the window as he realized, if evacuated, no more darkies on the plantation. Why didn't he or the governor try and use all the resources they had like those buses we've seen under water to evacuate the people once they got to the Superdome & Convention center since it was a mandatory evacuation? Then alot of the b/s happened while the people were stranded with no food or water & with some people with bad intentions. Then after the hurricane the mayor wants to complain about the response from the Federal gov. and say they're racist because it's taking too long to get help & bring buses from outside the state to evacuate the people stranded. I have a comment for you. How do you have a state job with a big office when you can't even write properly. You don't even make sense and it is hard to understand what you are even saying. Well I just got back this weekend from the dirty 3rd helping out my people and I plan to return as soon as I can. Just seeing some of the people down there just gave me a knew prospective on my life and this country. The NEWS can't show you the pain in those peoples eyes.
