First thing, rappers do get promotion, but don't get lucky enough to go on a big label like Interscope. Labels like that don't sign rappers for talent, labels like that look for "marketable" acts.

There was a time when MC Hammer was making more money then N.W.A. Does that make him a better rapper......or sorry, "smart business man" then Ice Cube and MC Ren? Rakim, G Rap, and KRS-One are still doing their thing, styles never substituted. They are definately not as big as 50, but they've all been on for like 15 years. MC Hammer had maybe 2 years of spotlight.

PS: I'm not a hater. The definition of hater is to be judgemental, manipulating, and sometimes even feel superior. (Look it up) All the traits of--I ain't gon say it.

Regardless of who's hatin' and who ain't, 50 definitely got his game tight and ain't no-one in the game right now that got the business savvy he got. He can make any thing turn to multi-platinum plus. But here is the downside - he doesn't seem to be able to grow as an artist, and I think this is the problem. Rap beef is inevitable, hell, hip hop was built on battling, and what better way to prove yourself as an emcee but to beat your opponent down lyrically? I just think that when it came to delivering subject matter on The Massacre, 50 could've given us so much more. Like the great lyricists before him - Ice Cube (my favourite rapper of all time - yeah I said it!), Nas, Jay-Z, Biggie, 2Pac, Eminem, Rakim, Commen: they were all able to express sentiments on their family, personal lives, regrets, political views,religious beliefs, social conciousness, even fears. They were'nt afraid to be vulnerable, and that made them human, that's how we were able to identify with them, knowing that they too acknowledged their own flaws and could openly discuss them. I also hoped that 50's rhyme skills would improve this album. Hell, he drops a new mixtape damn near every week! You would expect him to be rapping like Rakim by now! 50 may be gangsta and the smartest businessman in hip hop, but I think what true hip hop fans are looking for in him as an artist is growth and for him to step his game up lyrically. I think we got an insight into what he could truly accomplish lyrically if he dug deep within himself in his verse on the Game's "Hate it or Love It". Concept songs like "Baltimore Love Thing" and others like "Position of Power" as well as "God Gave Me Style" showcase what he can do lyrically with a little more thought put into his content. Personally, I think 50 was way better lyrically when he was more hungry, everything up to Get Rich Or Die Trying was what a real MC is about. 50's in a position where he can truly be revered as one of the all-time greatest MCs ever, but I would like his legacy to be shown in his lyrics and delivery- You can pick up any Jay-Z album and see why he is so well respected. And I might not have that many people agree with me but I'm gonna say it anyway - for the total package - lyrics (content, flow, punchlines and delivery), business acumen, style, showmanship (he's heavy in concert), freestyle, intellect, flossing and battling; the person who says they're the best to do it since BIG died (and there are a shitload of those, even people who were in diapers when BIG was alive) and can geniunely make that claim is HOVA. 50 could genuinely take over that crown convincingly if he was to deliver on ALL criteria. Lyrics being the most important one. He's got everything else locked down.

50 cent and g-unit are on top rite now, banks by far the best in g-unit lyricaly, 50 needs to step his game up if he wants the king of new york crown his lyrics need 2 go more deep like pac,eminem,common etc but as far as everythink else he doing good

1. The death of his mother - how has this affected him?
