So, I was just thinking. What will Nas do after rap? I mean when you really think about it his career is very 1 dimensional. He hasn't shown any interest in acting. He doesn't have his own fashion line. To my knowledge he doesn't have a club or own any real estate. Bravehearts and Nayshawn aren't really popping artists that he can eat off.
For a guy who claimed to make his enemies retire, he sure don't seem ready for his retirement. Who knows, maybe Kelis will hit it big and he can hang out like Bobby hung with Whitney.
Nas = SOHH In Need Of A 401K Plan

I heard he's a writer. Maybe he can fall back on that.
acting?, fashion lines?, using other people to make money for himself??? these are all the things that nas isn't... tha's why he's dope.
NAS IS A MUSICIAN. HE IS NOT EDUCATED
nas dont hav a clothing and sneaker line becoz he's not like your favorite rapper like jay z who falls prey to corporate america using hiphop as vehicle for their rise to millions. a rapper and an emcee are cut from diffrent cloths - coons like gay z, t.i., fab, 50 etc. are called rappers, while krs-one, rakim and nas are called emcees. they dont whore themselves the f^ck out for corporate america, they dont sacrifice the art in exchange for millions. go to chuck d and krs and ask that question nd see how they smack the sh!t out of you for askin that sh!t. how old are you anyway? 18? i can picture u shaking ur ass when you hear candyshop over the radio while drinking your formula50 vitamin water. yeah thats hiphop maturity! kip rockin ur s dot carters and ggggg unit sneakers! btw, change ur name to mr. irrelevant. "What you've witness are my thoughts; just my thoughts man - right or wrong" nyahaha!
Don't worry about my boy Nas. He has talent. He can write, do poetry, manage, or do Movies. You have heard of Belly haven't you? Well he co-wrote as well as starred in that movie. But to be real I believe Nas will always rap because he is always relavent.
It's sad to think that everyone's worried about the hereafter; who's to say Nas won't rap until the day he dies? Why must those who wish to be successful in the industry fall victim to the mainstream elements (movies, clothes, u name it)?? Stop worrying about tomorrow, and enjoy what today has to offer, including Nas and all his genius.
You Nas riders are ridiculous. I hope you're still riding with him when he is doing little backwoods club dates at the age of 45.... Yall so busy being fans that you're totally overlooking the point -- dude needs to diversify his portfolio. Anybody with half a brain knows the day gone come when you can't rap no more... what Nas gonna do??? Really... dude is in serious trouble.
Why do you Nas fans be acting like anyone making money is wrong? Nas has done the exact same thing EXCEPT his failed at every attempt. Realize that everything you discredit Jay-Z for, Nas has done and FAILED.
Did you guys forget about Nas and his rim ads?
FAILED.
Did you guys forget about his clothing line?
FAILED.
His acting is questionable in Belly. DMX held that movie down.
You Nas fans are so pathetic to fathom that he can rap for the rest of his life making .12 per dollar on every record sold. Don't act like he's making money from shows because he's not that kind of artist.
"I gave you life when niggas was forgetting you emcee" - Jay-Z
Regardless of who you think won between Nas and Hov, Nas owes Jay-Z for his new career. Face it, Takeover jolted Nas back to reality. , homie got the reality check of his life. It's like getting a kidney-transplant and not thanking the nigga who donated his kidney. Face it, Nas was on life-support until Takeover dropped.
Where was all you Nas fans when I Am and Nastradamus dropped? Face it, If it wasn't for Jay, Nas would still be making bullshit like You Owe Me and Nastradamus.
And to the dude that said "Nas will always rap because he is always relevent..." No, he's not relevent, he's just a careful follower of trends. Illmatic was trend setting. Everything afterwards has been following someone else's lead.
50 Cent dropped gutter rhymes, Nas dropped gutta rhymes.
Wu-Tang brought the Italian-Mobster thing, here comes Esco. And then had the nerve to do The Firm.
This nigga probably in the studio now making a Reggaeton record.
Whoa... that was a KO! Nas fans fall back.
I think that like many artists, NASIM will continue to be a man, a person. Someone with gifts who has to find a way through this life. He might just become a regular guy with some kind of job in the industry,(studio artist manager, media coordinator, advisor etc.) someone that isn't in the limelight. I' glad the question was asked because we are not often wise enough to worry about the artists that enrich our community. Not every great writer has book after book in them, or every alvin ailey dancer can dance for 15 years. Hip hop artists are no different from painters... What will Doze Green do when he has arthritis? Art is life to an artist, but an artist's life isn't an easy one. That is why artists, true artists, are special individuals. They sacrifice in many ways to express, and share, and touch lives. Life is painful for any real artist in ways we'll never understand and they endure that pain to GIVE us.. what we call art. Just appluad, say thank you, and leave the man be. He'll find a way, his world is a different texture than ours. One.
While I agree Nas is limited in rap, and certainly owes JayZ for puttin him on the map again.....
See, NAS was on the map before (illmatic of course) , and he fell off... But what about JAYZ?
He was never on the map, and it took BIG to die, so Jay can step up....
Jay never on the map?Check the stats Resonable Doubt and Ready to Die both went gold when they dropped.Jay came up like every other rappper-Radio Hits- those records that the masses love. Now most people hate on commercal rappers but why?at least Jay keeps it real when it comes to his hunger for money and his life story.
So is jay wrong for owning record lables and clothes/shoe lines or smarter than those old school mc's that got raped for their talent.
But back to nas..nas is talented as a lyricist but he needs to learn some moves from the new school and get his paper.
Dog..NAS is gonna be relevant for ever! Like Prince, and MJ and them...super stars. That man will still be able to charge big money for shows..while he's on his retirement chair. Hell...who needs to retire..if you rap? And it's a talent like that cat's got. He just pop some shit off real quick, put that shit on a disc ..and sell it. I'll buy it...cuz ya boys talented. Ain't no effort involved. He's already a Legend..and will forever be relevant, so long as HE WANTS TO BE. ALREADY! PZ
funy how some of you getting homotional about nas owe jay for puttin him back on the map. ok. nas fell off wit nastradamus and jay obviously fell off after reasonable doubt. after RD he aint say nuthin much. he admited it in his rhymes -- "I dumbed down for my audience to double my dollars" yet ur stil on his dick – "Truthfully I wanna rhyme like Common Sense, But I did five mill' - I ain't been rhymin like Common since". ok lets give that one to jay fans nas rily owes jay. LOL! but 10 years down the line do u tink jay rhymes wud stil be relevant? wud change clothes be stil relevant? chuck d the most prolific voices in hiphop said in a recent interview his talks wit nas and common –
"Record company greed treating rap like a hustle instead of an artform has resulted in more money, but at the cost of the existence of its integrity and longevity. I told Nas that it's disrespectful of any company, journalist, magazine, TV or radio station to judge him merely based on sales."
"I told him that his company has predominantly older white cats guarding Miles Davis' some one hundred plus masters of albums and music as if their lives depended on it."
"Miles would smack a cat across the face with his trumpet if they dared to disrespect his art form with some pop chart. I told Nas his work was the Miles of this time."
Go check the public enemy boards for that.
Nas is the GOAT and u cant accept that for a simple fact that he is not your favorite emcee. leave the man alone. hes got enough money to raise his family and feed his daughter. as long as hes comfortable wit his own skin he is straight. hes not a pop rapper. he done fell off alryt but he came back to relive the real essence of his music. one!
My people, fall back for a sec.. did jay not follow trends, yes he did....he started putting that izz crap that the left coast rappers saying in his ryhmes..did he not take on another name, yes he did...in everyone of his songs at least 2 -3 lines are taken from another rapper..jay saw an opening and he worked his angle from the stabbing(which was set up for promotion) to him buying a portion of the nets, nothing major he's in charge of marketing which means alot of def jam concerts at the nets arena....
nas has enough money to retire why do you care what he does? hes done and put out more then enough music leave him alone
One important thing we gotta look at is that it is important for anyone who uses rap (or what ever elese they are doing) as a source of income to have sufficient funds to retire. It aint no use in getting a lil cheese and buying bling with all ya money or rides with all ya money. Aint no use in being a hustla and guzzling all your money. So i guess what is important is if Nas has saved enough money to retire its all good, and to you hardocere Nas fans, this means that he can have a studio at his crib and make music forever, now if the nigga is broke he wont even b able to afford studio time. And y'all know Jay Z will always be able to afford that, who is in a better position? I'll let u tell it!!!!

man nas is a legend in this here time an after dude is making classics while this buble gum rappers are popin all over the place.fuc that that shit u listen
to for a day an break weed on it then.nas is a pioneer of hiphop while this nigas are pawns in the
game.
This is a stupid discussion. Nas is not broke. Personally, I don't think he cares. I love rap music. I been a fan my whole life. In my opinion Jay-z and Nas are both extremely talented but to compare them is like comparing apples and oranges. It all depends on your taste. If you like the mega-mainstream rapper, Jay is your man. If you like the deep rapper who is a poetic genuis, nas is your boy. Nas will never have the money Jay has,but nas doesn't want that. He wants his music to live on after he is gone. That is what is important to him. To touch lives after he's gone. He may not have the money today, but his music will speak for ages. I don't think he fell off, people just didn't wanna hear his music. Everybody was ready to dance , not think. I am and Nastradamus will be revisited later recognized for their genius. In both albums there are plenty of songs that extremely well written lyrically.(with the exception of "owe me back" thats trash) It was written is a classic, period. You all know the songs and lyric's so don't front! The albums sound crap to the listener who is looking for rappers that sound like 50 Cent, but to me a guy who listens for content they are solid albums. Nas's production isn't always the best, but his lyrics are. Hip-hop ain't about clubs, money, cars, shoe deals, or even the record company. It about speaking to people spiritually and mentally. Jay-Z will be missed in his retirement. Reasonable Doubt is by far, his best album. Jay-Z fan must also remember, after reasonable doubt, Jay hit a slump as well. The Big Pimpin single saved him with UGK down south. The black album was his best since RD cause he put emotion into it. Blueprint was very good as well, I loved the takeover cause it was from the heart. Just as I loved Ether. It hard to compare the two cause they have different motivations. To answer the question Nas will probably never be broke. He is too talented and intelligent to end up that way. He has seen to much in the music industry to end up broke. No he will not be Jay-Z economically, but who is to say he wants to be.
Maybe he'll retire and be a regular Joe, sitting around the house in his drawers like everyone else. I can see him doing that. Why is there a belief (or obsession) that all people in the limelight want to stay in the limelight when they retire? When the average joe firefighter retires from the job, he moves to a warm weather climate and plays bingo every day until he takes his last breath. Maybe Nas will do the same. Maybe y'all need to worry about what the hell most of y'all are gonna do BEFORE you retire instead of worrying about someone who already has his future intact.
If you Jay-Z fans want to suck his dick so bad, why don't you just go down to the Def Jam offices and ask to see him???
Yo it aint even bout jay and nas, its bout michael jackson!! he may be a kiddie fingerer but he can hit dem high ones!
Damaj you hit it right on the nose man. Nas didn't even want to do this rap stuff for as long as he's been doin it. He actually wanted to do AN album and then go into the movie business. Nas probably has money saved up from shows and collective royalties from all 9 albums saved up in mutual funds so that he'll live quite comfortably till' his life is done. Jay has the company, the shoes, drinks, films and Beyonce( Damn how did he do that again?). Jay has success but his definition of it is different from that of Nas. And oh yeah Jay still burnin off of that Ether
at least NAS didn't steal Young Chris and Freeway's flow, or quote Biggie in 45% of his lyrics. Nasir Jones is both his birth name and his name as an artist. Everyone calls Nasir fake, but is his flow really his? I THINK SO. So regardless if he has to spit verses for spare change when his rap career is over, I think he'll be satisified that he is a genuine hip-hop artist and preserver of the artform he loves. The only thing that rich-bitch Jigga Man has done during his entire career is steal flows, live off of Damon Dash and Biggs' genius, and pimp younger rappers who spit more fire than he does. I give Jay-Z a 5 mic rating for everything he's done in his career, but 2 and a 1/2 of those mics belong to BIG JAZ (JAZ-O), SAUCE MONEY, BEANIE SIEGEL, YOUNG CHRIS, and every other rapper who he quoted or stole flows from. His riches are a result of his willingness to steal -- and worse off, he is going to sucker-punch us all, stay with Beyonce forever, and live off the hoe, probably executive produce all her albums too!!! lol... dumb ass jigga fans.... * rolls my eyes *
Man anyone that says Nas can't rap is fucked. Illmatic was one of the best LP's he dropped. I've been a fan of Nas for almost 10 years now. Who cares what he's gonna do when he's done rapping. He is and always will be one of the greatest rappers to live.
NAS IS TH SHIT NO ONE CAN FUCK WITH HIM AN HIS FLOWS HES LIUKE JADA UNDERATED
I dont care if Nas is 60 years old, if he puts out a record, imma buy it. Not only because im a fan, i will always be a fan, but the way Nas keeps on improving himself over the years. Sure after illmatic there were a couple garbage tracks on his albums but his lyrics and his concepts became deeper. Nas is true to this shit. P.S. when you have about 30 million dollars, plus a rich wife like Kelis, you can afford to retire right now.
Who ever said the album I AM was wack don't have ears! there was only one skippable song on that whole album! c'mon the nicca had a classic song with scarface! a classic song with DMX. A classic song with AAliyah! Now if you are a jay fan then you do realize that jay's volume 2 and most of nas's albums (except wack ass nastradamus) are the exact same formula(besides his last 2). I personally admire both of them and as a NAS fan I still gotta give it to jay's hustle. The streets survive through hustling and grinding this is what moves black people up in a world that constantly pulls us down. by the way nas got cake and always will have malt chippers so if you sweatin his retirement you should probably worry about ya own! Be EEEZY!
Nas is one of the best rappers ever and many people don't realize that shit casue he aint really a mainstream artist. But thats okay cause he got plenty of fans and I'll always buy his cds cause im a fan. No questions asked. Sure he's had some shitty tracks but who doesnt. And Im sure Nas is smart enough to have saved his money ova da years so he can live good when he retires....if he does!
Ya'll got some interesting points. Nas is simply not business oriented. Also, a lot of the time I hear that people from his community have fallen out with the brotha, that kind of makes me think he is not in touch with the people, as he would have you think from his lyrics. He is a gifted emcee, however he lacks the passion and desire to be great. He is not a hustler in any sense of the word. On the other hand Jay is like the total opposite. He is business minded, has created opportunities for his community and people, and has the passion to become successful. Nas should be ok financially if he has half a brain, but he will never have the influence or even potential to effect change in the world like a true leader. It's too bad, because if he did have hustle, he could do so much more, and from that be more respected and financially secure.
DAMN NAS is a touchy subject, never seen responses like this on a blog before
I see talking about Nas has struck some nerves in the muthafucka. Shit let me add my two cents in....Nas may just be a humble man who does not need a lot to get by on. He may not live an extravagant life style like your average rapper. Dawg maybe just sitting back stacking his chips so he can buy a big umbrella for a rainy day. What ever he does I can respect the fact that he held his own as a man in this world. Got to respect that!
JR Don - im sorry i got 2 disagree with you. Fine, Jay-Z is a hustler, so is 80% of the black population. Some of us have morals and lines that we don't cross though - some of us have sold crack or would be willing to sell crack to survive, but some of us don't. Nasir Jones is the man who may have sold a few crack rocks in his life, but he won't preach about it. Jay-Z is still rappin' about "pushing white" -- how many years has Jay-Z been successful for... since he was about 23??? Jay-Z affiliates himself with whatever makes him "seem" like a hustler. He's a good brown-noser, good networker. He makes you think he is spending he's spending all his time in the "hood"... but he's always rapping about "private jets" and "the Hamptons". Jigga spends more time rubbing noses with Lyor Cohen than he does with any hustler in the streets. but he doesn't want you to look at him that way, not for a minute. Jigga has done more songs with the Neptunes, than Nas. You think it's just because Nas doesn't like their production? He ain't about the "quick rapper's formula for platinum success". And just to touch on your comment about Nas' lack of ability to help others in his community... making it seem as if Jigga can... why ain't Jigga helping M.O.P??? Why can't Memphis Bleek break platinum? why is Bleek always complaining about his album being in Jay's shadow when his albums come out? Why was Foxy Brown not sharing the same opinion that he can help anyone's career? Why doesn't he get along with Cam'ron? We don't know enough about either Jay-Z or Nasir Jones to be speaking positively or negatively about what they can or can't do. So why criticise Nas and big up Jay-Z, when Jay-Z's more known for being the asshole????????
yall actin like niggas aint start rappin to make money...aint nobody start rappin to not set trends to not sell records all for the love of hip hop. thats a bullshit publicity stunt and yall are caught up in it. i dont know how much money dude got but if he aint hustled enough and been real enough to himself to know whether or not nobody is followin his little disciple trend then dude is failin at his hustle..he needa go start preachin like rev. mase man...face it nas is a flop the only reason niggas callin him a legend so he can retire nobody wanna hear from his ass no more...jay can come back out any day and still go platinum that because he a hustla...and id rather be a hustlin ass rapper than a broke ass mc...TRIPLE THREAT EVERYDAY ALL MUHFCUKIN DAY BITCHES
Yo whats good everyone. I agree with alot of people, Nas is cool peoples. Also he has millions of dollars to retire on. A dude like me could retire with only one million dollars in the bank, and I could support my parent, so Nas good to go. But it's true the person with the best, honest, hustle is the person that everyone is going to like; even me. That the reason I like rappers like Jay-Z. !!!!! BROOKLYN STAND UP!!!!
I have read most of these comments and this is the funniest thing I have ever read. We have die hard Nas fans and we have die hard Jay-Z fans. Why can't the Nas fans admit that Nas stole Rakim's style? Why can't they admit that Nas stole PAC's life after he died? Why can't they admit that Nas has a problem with ANYBODY "saying" that they are the king of New York. (which if you check your records is why Big had beef with him, why Jay had beef with him and why 50 now has beef with him). Why can't Nas fans admit that if he was really that concious brother that you thought he was, he wouldn't be rocking the Ice like he does, he would never have made "Oochie Wally" and "Quick to Back Down". Why can't Nas fans admit that Nas has TRIED to make more money and sell more records? It just wasn't extremely successful and I don't care WHAT you say Nas' acting in Belly was the most horrible thing I ever seen (Besides ANY acting Master P has done).
Oh and don't get it twisted, Jay-Z fans. Why is it that Jay-z fans don't want to admit that Jay bites ryhmes? Why can't they admit that if Big and Pac were alive Jay-Z wouldn't have sold as many records? Why can't they admit that Jay is "raping" the rap culture. Why can't they admit that he lucked up and got Beyonce? Why can't they admit that there are indeed other rappers out that are better then him? Why can't they admit that Nas edged himout in their little battle?
See I am a fan of both, but I am also a realist. Nas NEEDED to win that battle, that's why he came out so raw with Ether. Jay-Z WANTED to win, that's why he came back again with "Super Ugly".
My questions to the Nas fans are as follows. What's wrong with Jay making money and getting paid for raps? If you think Nas is doing it just to hear himself on a record you are wrong. What's wrong with Jay-Z taking lines from other people? Rap has been about borrowing and lending from the beginning. This is a line from Rappers Delight "check it out, i'm the c-a-s-an-the-o-v-a
and the rest is f-l-y". It wasn't written by the Sugar Hill Gang.
My Questions to the Jay-Z fans are as follows. What's wrong with admitting you lost a rap battle? What's wrong with admitting that Jay-Z takes lines "You made it a hot line, I made it a hot song". In a battle there is always a looser.
By the way, I do have a personal note to add, I'd rather have Jay's money and be able to do what he does, than to be living off of show money and that 12cents an album. And anybody out there that says they wouldn't (including Nas) is lying to themselves and God. Don't report to the boss, BE THE BOSS
NAS IS ONE OF THE KINGS OF RAP AND FOR A MAN TO BE SO GOOD AT WHAT HE DOES DO YOU REALLY THING HE HAS NOT ONE PLAN FOR HIS FUTURE DONT BE STUPID. IF YOU LOVE HIM OR HATE HIM........................ AT ONE TIME YOU WHERE A NAS FAN!!!!!!!
What taste Better, Grapes Or Cherrys
I Love the pasion For both of thes artist. And You All Should be Proud Of who you Feel is the Bes, Regardless of how much success they have at doing what they do. By Far JAY is the most confident mc to ever grab the mic. And Nas one of the Best Rhyme writers ever. Long Live Hip Hop
And F*&@ Whos better, as long as they keep the artform alive.

@ RON
I hear you, but i don't agree that Nas bites. He didn't bite Rakim, that's proposterous... he didn't bite Tupac in any way shape or form either, he just carried on the legacy of Tupac because bitch-nigga-jigga would never have thought of that one. So what, is Eminem stealing from Tupac because he ressurected his verses on his own beats? I guess 50 Cent is also jacking Tupac, for using Hail Mary, and for practically every other thing 50 does in the public eye.
Point is, nobody is arguing Nasir is the best PERSON ever, or the RICHEST rapper, we are just saying, give him credit where credit is due, nobody thinks he is this "conscious", positive rapper, not no squeeky-clean dude, just a brother with a mind and brain and soul of his OWN. Nasir doesn't follow trends, maybe he TRIED to with OWE ME BACK (why do we diss him for that, and not the other 99% of rappers who do commercial songs ALL THE TIME?????) but Nasir is FAR from a commercial rapper. You can do an Oochie Wally, there's nothing wrong with that, he involved himself with the song, but it wasn't a typically NAS song - it was bravehearts shit, same way 50 would jump on a G-Unit track, or Eminem on a D12 track. stop judging the guy just cuz he started calling himself God's Son.
Point is, Nas can do mainstream stuff and still be as popular and respected as Jay-Z, he did sick songs with Mariah Carey, U Can Hate Me Now was a classic even if you don't feel it (lyrically scorching)... and his feature on R. Kelly's song (Did U Ever Think That U Would Be This Rich) is as good an RNB-remix as any Fiesta etc. that Jay-Z has done with R. Kelly. Look how a song like MADE U LOOK represented hiphop, had no topless bitches like Jay-Z in big pimpin... and still made the charts (dude chose it as his LEAD single!!!)
i don't know where this argument's going, but nas will retire a wealthy rap legend.
Murda-material:
You murdered your entire argument within your post. YOu said:
"Point is, Nas can do mainstream stuff and still be as popular and respected as Jay-Z, he did sick songs with Mariah Carey, U Can Hate Me Now was a classic even if you don't feel it (lyrically scorching)... and his feature on R. Exactly... Nas has tried to be successful on a commercial level, even recording with R. Kelly (who he later called a child molestor. He even tried to indict Jay-Z for recording with Kells by saying that anyone who recorded with him 'must have been down with the child molesting').
So, for all of you Nas fans who say that he's concious, righteous, he's doing it for the art, he doesn't care about money, GET REAL. Your boy wants to win, he just doesn't have the ambition, savvy, timing or talent to do so.
Therefore, when he retires, expect your boy to be living on whateva is leftover from his measly 12 cents a record and BMI checks. Cause, regardless of how hard core of a fan you are, you will not be checking for him when he's 50, old and bitter.
I'll worry about my own retirement before I worry about either of these dudes. While I like both rappers Jay is definitely a biter of rhymes as shown earlier in this post. Both can rap...who cares about who's a hustler at the end of the day. Feed your family, stack a few chips, and hope to be able to look at yourself in the mirror based on what you've done in your life
Get a life
There is something MAGIC about Nas that intrigues people. Most of u should mind about their own future.
Jay-Z could've been great, he choose to be lesser and make more money. Nas could've been great, he choose to be greater, and for anybody to say any different is ignorance. Check the rapsheet, look at any lyrics from any NAS album, even NASTRADAMUS ( 'last words' among others ), NAS is a mastered lyricists, JAY ain't no pimp, he ain't no hustla, JAY's a record label hoe turned mac. JAY is all image, while NAS has nurtured his talent, so at the end of the day, when all is said and done, NAS made u look while JAY changed the game, and now hip hop's just another commodity, and none of those niggaz is getting the big fat check, but you better bet some fat-white-label-executive-dude who thinks nothing of hip hop is pimpin' you and your favorite rapper while you're fighting for crumbles of the cake.
its pretty funny that what started out as someones random thoughts about what nas would do when he stopped rapping (assuming he ever will) turned into some huge argument about whos better between hardcore jay-z fans and hardcore nas fans. both have dropped classics in they're time, (illmatic is possibly the greatest album of all time) and both have fallen off at some point or another. but at the end of the day, they're both great rappers in they're own way, whether you prefer jays or nas' style. so, to all the die hard nas/jay-z fans who have been posting, stop hating, and learn to appreciate both rappers for being able to create great music. and with that, im out peace, respect, keep it real, one love.
LMAO i think i will "retire" from this "tired" blog, are we arguing about Nas and whether he'll be broke when he retires? Since when did rappers officially "retire"??? except for lying-ass jigga who can't be believed in any scenario, rap or real life... and maybe Master P who retired about 46 times in between albums. not a dumb discussion, but dumb arguments... Nasir has books in the works, he's working on that new nigga Quan from Virginia, he's connected... why are we even talking about him and his riches? He's married to a wealthy female artist, his wedding was featured on ABC (niggas don't really even watch ABC Prime Time and shit like that), so this topic is weak on the basis of the fact that dude has money, clothes, women, status, credibility, and connections. 12 cents per album? Nigga please Nasir Jones will be performing his classics at the nearest venue near you until he's good and ready to quit. His material will outlast Jigga's especially when we get tired of hearing re-hashed lyrics and over-confident boastings from a 33 year old who by the way got MURDERED in the Ether-Takeover battle that HE started. LOL... Nasir, thanks for the classics if you need retirement work, come see me!!!
This whole topic is really humorous at best to me. What is Nas going to do after rap? That question is ludacris at best. All you yunguns need to go to Riaa.com and check out the god's catalog. It will speak for itself. Do you simpletons understand ASCAP and royalties. He will get paid off of the work that he has done and will do in the future for the rest of his life, it is called residual income. On top of that, he tours ALL OVER THE WORLD! The U.S. is not the only place on this planet, as a matter of fact he is Europe now touring. Let me ask you pea brains a question. Does Prince have a clothing line? How about Ray Charles? R. Kelly? Usher? The answer is No! If you want of course an artist can get into different business', but they do not have to in order to make money and be extremely comfortable. Bt the way, speaking of comfortable Nas and wifey Kelis just bought a 1.6 million dollar home in the Chelsea section of N.Y.C. Where do you live?
who wrote this got a point ?
1000 years or 2000 years from now or if jay or nas is broke when then die and everyone on this forum is dead in history of hip hop everyone will know that jay bite not just from biggie but from lil wayne ,mase and others ..they will also know that jay wore a shine suit and was spitting like the fu-snikkens back in the days but the most important thing that would be remembered in history is that nas destoyed jay z in the battle that a broke ass nigga destroyed a commercial ass rich nigga fake ass biteing jay z ...cause no one on this forum considers the best mc to be rich to be the best lyricist ...no one cares on this forum if jay was a hustler i think he was more of a biter just keep this in mind it will go down in history whether jay z has a better 401k plan NAS destroyed that ass it was written!!!
jayz and nas are both legends.love it or hate it.
jay does his thing and nas does his thing
yea jay is a biter but the nigga dont even write rhymes(watch Fade to Black)
yea nas gets raped for his talent by the record label but he's the best poet since pac
so respect hova and godson, cuz "what they eat dont make u shit"
You guys are a bunch of fucking idiots that are worthless and can't do anything else but take shots at home on you sofas watching BET. Nas has been doing his thing since 1991, and if you dont like it dont listen. Nas isnt even coming at jay hardly anymore, but you guys are just sore losers. Nas is busy recognizing jay for his top position and doing his financial thing. Meanwhile, Nas his bringing respect to the game in his own way. Nas was never was about making the top dollar is writing literature and music that is bringing rap to the fore in academic circles, whichin turn is better for the entire genre and everyone in it, including all you faggots knocking him.
I really don't see the point of this post. Unless you are the financial advisor for Nas or any other artist, how do you know what he is worth or what his financial interests are outside of the industry? It's amazing how people equate what they see as fact. Just because you have cats who brag and boast about how much money they claim they have, doesn't make it legit or equal longevity. You would think by now people would understand that those with money, usually don't have an urge to talk about it. You talking about "Nas needs to diversify his portfolio because he doesn't own any clubs that you know of or have a clothing line". You ever stop to think that maybe instead of throwing money into a clothing line that may never turn a profit, that perhaps he did something wise like...INVEST? Wow, imagine that concept. Putting money away for the future. Next time you create a post, try a topic that is actually RELEVANT to the community. Grow up and stimulate your mind. You're better than that duke.
The last 2 posts NAILED IT!!! What the hell is Nas supposed 2 be now, MC Hammer??? I don't think Surreal Life will be hollarin' at him anytime soon... meaning anytime EVER!!! Nas is far from becoming the next Flava Flav, why are people hating on the king, does he still not rock continuous bling? Do features with the top artists... Alicia Keys, Rakim, Jennifer Lopez, Jagged Edge, just like any Jigga or Fitty would do? The average life span of a rapper is maybe 2 or 3 albums, 5 if you are a veteran emcee -- 1 or 2 if you are a gimmick. Dude is a LEGEND. If we aren't worried about LL Cool J's money, Busta's money, Mister Cheekz' money, or the retirement funds of great legends like RAKIM, KRS-ONE, why we studying Nas? How about de-funct and insignificant rappers like Wu-Tang Clan (Method Man, GZA, Ghostface) etc... or skilled rappers like Redman etc. who stay true to form, but seem to have NO effect whatsoever on an industry that is now more geared to children than anything else.... why aren't we talking about them, worrying about them? I'm more worried about the retirements of rappers like AZ, Kool G Rap, who still have ALL the skills they started off in da game with... but who never seem to be able to get a break in a feeble hiphop industry. Nasir is at the BOTTOM of any list of rappers who should be worried about their retirement.
I've read about all the comments post here and none of you have taken into consideration that Every man does not aspire to reach the same goals in life. Maybe Nas is not concerned with the "Riches" he can get from a clothing line, shoe line, beverage line etc etc. Maybe a spiritual wealth is more important him. Why are so many of you arguing about the money these millionares have and you may never see? Let that man do him. If he's smart enough, he is already set for life challenges without having to rap forever. "IT'S NOT ALWAYS ABOUT THE DOLLAR"
Just_Ice, do you understand ASCAP and royalties?
You only get paid WHEN and IF your material gets played. I know this first hand because I am a writer at BMI. I have 10 songs registered and recorded. Only 1 get's airplay. When I get my quarterly statement, I only get paid for that one song.
A majority of Nas' catalog is not in rotation. That's a fact. The newer material that he has made is getting more spins which add up, and I'm sure he'll get some movie time, but other than that he's not going to make that much in residual income from 'his' catalog. With Nas and Kelis' income COMBINED they can probably afford FOR NOW to live in Chelsea. Good for them. Hopefully, when they move out, they can flip that property and make money on that.
PBR, give me a break! You expect me to believe that you are a so called "writer" just because you say so..PLEASE! You sound like the mad rapper. As long as you own your publishing you will get paid residual income. If you do not believe that then go back and listen to the Takeover by Jay-Z or hell, maybe 20 other songs were Jay-Z gets on other rappers about getting fucked out of their publishing.Don't try and feed me that bullshit yungun. Stay in your lane and get yo shit straight. I see why you ain't making any money!
who ever wrote this has a valid point i read the post i cant believe jay copied so much i listen to jay and nas but iam going to fall back on jay ..
the magic about nas is he is a warrior he is one of us just doing his thing and he has true fans that defend his cause not him but his cause and his believe not like jay z fans they just love his money and record sales when thats over they jump the bandwagon to the next dude makeing loot the next catchy thing jay is like a popstar he has no true fans there just dick riders ..nas has true fans that will defend his cause
The Ghetto Prophet
If you want it lyrical, street, and spiritual, Nas is your man. Nas is truly a ghetto griot. He is one of the best poignant storytellers in Hip-Hop. What?s unique about Nas as a storyteller is that he does it as a lyricist. As most Hip-Hop aficionados know, most lyricists are not truly great storytellers, and most storytellers are not really lyrical. Although many emcees do both, Nas is one of the few that do both at an extremely high level. In 1994, he dropped his first album, Illmatic, and immediately the Hip-Hop press was calling him the next Rakim. This, in my opinion, was very unfortunate. It created an atmosphere of confusion and conflict that was unnecessary. The first problem was that Nas, although very good, was nowhere near the level of lyrical proficiency of Rakim at that time. The second problem was we didn?t know if this was a marketing ploy to hype record sales, or if Nas was actually feeling like that himself. The final problem was, if it was a marketing play, the expectations would be too high, and the criticism would have been too hard.
However, none of it mattered. Nas had the goods. By his second and third albums everybody knew he wasn?t the second coming of Rakim, he was the first coming of Nas. He had a unique flow, which seemed to start the trend that we old-school emcees call the ?off-beat conversational flow.? Before Nas, every emcee focused on rhyming with a cadence that ultimately put the words that rhymed on beat with the snare drum. Nas created a style of rapping that was more conversational that ever before. Although KRS-One was one of the first truly conversational emcees, he still used an intensity and lyrical attack that was more conventional than what Nas was doing. Nas was almost totally eliminating the intensity and changed the way most rappers that came after him would rhyme.
This was the beginning of the third generation of the three lyrical kings (Biggie, Jay-Z, and Nas). Of the three, Nas was truthfully the most cerebral. While Biggie was the potent intensity, and Jay-Z the flashy slick flavor, Nas seemed to be more spiritually inclined and more well read within that context. In 1999 he released I Am, and for me it confirmed what I thought about his spiritual inclinations. On the streets, however, the title seemed to have a different connotation. A few years back, Jay-Z made a reference to the streets, asking who was the best among Biggie, Nas, and himself. Five years and many innuendos later, many fans thought that Nas was answering, ?I Am.? I think they totally missed the real meaning. I think Nas was using a biblical reference to esoterically profess his connection to God. None the less, on the streets, when it comes to Hip-Hop, sometimes the perception becomes the reality, and by the end of 2001 Nas and Jay-Z were in the second most popular battle in Hip-Hop history, the ?King of the Street? vs ?The Streets Prophet.?
What was interesting to me was the fans showing their fickle nature. They overestimated, underestimated, and ultimately overreacted. First, because of Jay-Z?s unprecedented five-year dominance, the fans overestimated his ?touchability.? They thought that he was untouchable. Second, because of Nas? seemingly cerebral, spiritual, lyrical calm, the fans underestimated his ability to get gritty. And finally, when it was all said and done, after hearing both emcee?s records, the prevailing consensus was, ?Nas killed Jay-Z.? This is an exaggeration, also based on perception. Most fans had prejudged this contest so wrongly that they overacted.
When you go back and listen to those records back to back, you?ll see it was a little closer than you might have originally thought. In my opinion, Jay-Z had the better record, ?Take Over,? and Nas had the sharper lyrics. Even Nas? title, ?Ether,? was more esoteric than the average one might expect for a battle record. Ultimately, because a battle is about the emcee and the lyrics not the music, Nas was the winner! Although Jay-Z came back with another answer, because he made reference to a child in the song many fans thought he stepped out of bounds, and it made him look momentarily weak. This heightened the perception of what Nas had done to him through the battle. Nas seemed to have the psychological edge.
This goes back to something I always said about battles. Never underestimate a true lyricist, because in a battle, it?s more about the lyrics than anything else. Furthermore, Nas is a true lyricist that?s also spiritual lyrically. Spiritual energy usually heightens your lyrical ability, and that is almost an unbeatable combo in a battle. This is why KRS-One is virtually invincible! Nas is like a Kung Fu master. By that I mean he?s like a teacher that really knows how to fight, but he?d rather teach the art. This is very evident in the work on his last album, God?s Son. The title once again says it all. You can almost tell just what you?re going to get in the album just by reading the title.
Right now, Nas is somewhere else. He?s on another level. Although his body of work has been solid for nine years, he has never done an album as diverse as God?s Son. The subject matter and the lyrical content is definitely more thought provoking than ever before. He has slipped into that rare zone that Tupac, Latifah, and few others have slipped into. He?s now starting to be viewed as a voice for the culture, rather than a voice of the culture. His lyrical game was always tight, but he even stepped up the flow. For the first time other than on the songs ?Ether,? and ?Hate Me Now,? you can feel the passion coming out of him throughout the whole album.
In conclusion, there are a lot of hot emcees right now that are finally enjoying high levels of success and making lots of money. Unfortunately, too many of them don?t have anything to say of any value. Nas is the antithesis of those emcees. He has a lot to say, and he says it well, and I?m glad that he?s lasted long enough to see the real money in the game. Right now, Nas is at the top of his game, and as far as emcees go today, Nas is the best emcee. And the rule is, if you are ever the best emcee in this game at any point, you are automatically one of the greats. NAS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST.
Strength: Street level lyrics. Nas always keeps his lyrics at a street level, so it never feels like he?s talking down to people.
Weakness: Undynamic. Many fans don?t catch the lyrical nuances he brings because there?s no vocal explosion in the inflections of the cadence. Combine that with his unorthodox flow, and many times he loses listeners, because his rhymes can become inconspicuous.
nas is the king of hip-hop right now! Nobody lyricaly is touching the man. He beat jay in that battle and he just keeps getting better.
i dont know why people are hating in Jay-Z for makin Money shit. Are you saying that you want us (the black commuinty) to live in poverty forever. yhea some of us are better off than others but like chris rock said wealth lifts poor communities from poverty. Jays always giving back . He gives out scholarships every year and hes always givin to communities and schools. I respect both nas and jay-z. but i think nas should take a hint from jay and get his hustle on. even if he doesnt want money for himself he should do it for his community.
Also why is it that people say that jay z is a corporate vehicle for white america. no he's not. he owned roc a fella during all his releases and he propabbly still owns all his master recordings that means for every cd he sells hes gettin 80-85 % of that money. he aint gettin no 12 cents for every dollar. and rocawear makes 300 mill a year and jay gets about 25-30 % of that (the rest is split between dame and biggs).Reebok dont give him 5 dollars for every sneaker he sells. hes gettin like 50-60 percent of that money. So why hate on Jay-Z.
Even though i do think Nas should do the same(get a record label, get some hot artist0 and get that paper. hes always talking about how fucked up the hood is well why not help the hood. but at the same time i have to respect his decisiopn if he dont want to cuz its his life(even thought i think its a waste since he has such a big influence)
and 85 % of jays raps arent bitten its like Jay said "you hear the first single and you single that out to be what hes about" fuck no jay didint steal freeways flow just cuz hes recycled like a few bars dont mean shit if u get all the lines hes bitten and put em on a track it'd be like 4 min long and and jay has like 15 Hours of music in his catalogue. 4min/15 hrs
and no nas ddint steal rakims flow he did kinda bite pacs image for a minute (tatto across the belly, using the same pose pac used fot the cover of all eyes on me ect.) but he didnt steal pacs flow or rakims
Everybody just stop hating and unite. united we are stronger.
Why are you all so concerned about nas and jay zs future? Worry bout your own self. Both these guys is gonna be set for along time if they smart, and if they aren't then its their own fault because they have definately made plenty of money. By tha way nas is still makin great music so why some people actin like hes not? But my oppinion is this Put both of their cds down and go pick up my man CHAMILLIONAIRES music. Its tha Truth, order mixtape messiah on the internet, 3 cds of cham killin tha mic for under 20$!!!! BEST RAPPER BOUT TA BLOW UP. WATCH OUT FOR HIM. CHAMILLIONAIRE.COM buy it dont bootleg it. Chamillionaire is by far a much better rapper than jay z or nas and you can pick up his debut major label solo album this summer "THE SOUND OF REVENGE" CHAMILLITARY MANG.
ya`ll love nas coz u wouldn`t have spent so much time on his dick like this. ur arguements are stupid, coz u just comparing his dollars to jay. the question is not whether nas is gonna live like jay. does a nigga have to make all his business public. lf u don`t know about what he gon do after rap, it doesn`t mean a nigga got nothing to fall on and he done. Ya cats just showing how stupid you are. He got millions u will never be able to have in your life even if u rise from the dead 5 times. U r not a millionaire, and u question someone with millions how he gone survive, how u living b. Today u probably got $20 to ur name and u wanna dis this nigga nas who got mills. Ya`ll need to think before u write something. Being in the media all the time isn`t the life nas is after. Nigga just got married, let him enjoy his life. Go suck jay`s dick maybe he can give u a mill.
Just-Bitch, as long as you own your publishing and your music is in use, meaning played on the radio, used as background music in a movie, etc, you will get paid residual income. That's all I'm saying. And I know this FIRSTHAND because one of my records is played as background music in High School High. Right now, High School High is getting played overseas on cable. Each time that movie gets played, I get money.
Do some research at BMI or ASCAP and you'll see what I'm talking about.
NAS got his own car shiiit out right now...
I see dem white and bad ass yellow boys with his sticker in der windows.
They even got these big NAS 40oz bottles strapped to der cars.
All I know is when they bump NAS there cars get to blow'n like... whoooowhoooo
every body in this blog is riding SOMEBODY'S dick or else none of us would have posted. Just cuz we criticize Jay-Z for certain things, don't mean we hate him. I like him as a rapper, but not as much when it comes to his personality/business moves. I'm not hating just because i make comparisons between him and Nas. so if i'm riding dick defending Nas, you are riding dick many comments which oppose mine. I tell everyone that at one point, Nas and Jay were both my favorite rappers. That is until Eminem came along and made both of them less important. so we can all shut up now, and have ourselves a nice day while we're at it....
Ima put it like this, even though Nas is my favorite rapper, he did fall off for awhile. Which he did pick himself back up like a lot of rappers. It did take "Takeover" to bring him back to his senses, but that joint wasn't even all that hard. He lyrically killed Jigga with "Ether". But you can look at anyone's career as they have had a downfall. Jigga - Blueprint 2 era, P.Diddy - after Biggie's death, The Wu - late 90's, Mobb Deep - right after Infamy dropped, Foxy Brown - after Chyna Doll. But just as much as I like Nas and Jigga, I don't think that I could see Nas "retiring" from rap. But with 50 coming at him on that "Piggybank" joint, I think that will bring Nas back again.
Let's take a detailed look at The Battle of the Century:
Takeover: Hot beat, Now jay only dedicated one verse to nas. It didnt seem as it was really in depth. When you hear some of jay's songs, you think man this sounds like it was done effortlessly. I think if you really know hip-hop, this is where Jay-z falls the most. If he just put a little more oomph and dedication to songs his lyrics could be much much better like reasonable doubt. It sounds as if he is almost freestyling on takeover. Notice how you can hear him reaching a lil bit like he did it in one take. It's not tightly mastered and tied down like "what more can I say". Jay puts more emphasis on the flow and the style of the lyrics than rather the lyrics itself. But this is why Takeover is hot, because because you feel the lyrics just bounce. It's more like a poem instead of an essay. Jay excels on Bravado and voice. You can kind of see his facial expressions with the song. With this Song Jay gives an element of surprise, with his wittiness. It's more like he is taking you on an adventurous journey as oppossed to Nas' Informative Lecturing.
Ether: Now if you listen to Ether real carefully. It has what you call tie downs, you would know if you took english. Nas has written this in more of a critical essay form, as compared to Jay-z free flowing form. It seems like Nas spent many hours Perfecting this song, because each diss is on point, sprouting like a machine gun. He rarely takes breaths and each diss is can be compared to someone shooting a pistol. The sentence structure, is a high level quality. What Nas does so perfect is lose the roundabout ways to express things. He doesnt use many articles like an, and,& the. The style is not very flowery, its more of a critical form straight to the point.
But the thing is Nas is always thinking. He brought a chemical substance to the song to give it a mysterious element. In essence he is trying to give you something to chew upon, as correlates as he is trying to diss jay-z. But this is a whole song dedicated to Jay as opposed to a verse.
Now Nas accents every line well, and this song comes off very crisp.
Superugly: Not worth discussing. The beat was garbage, it seemed like Jay-z made this lyrics up in the ride on the way to the studio. Shouldnt have said anything about the baby mama. No Effort at all.
Conclusion: Both are hot songs. There is this ongoing debate mainly, because everyone has this feeling that it is unfinished. Ether is excells more in the scientific world, as Takeover excells in The Liberal arts. One is like Engineering and the other is Graphic Design. If only Jay took the time to write a song, and if only Nas had a little more sauce. In the End Ether has a slight Edge, because science majors are harder than Liberal arts.
P oor B roke R etard My point is that Nas is rich and will always be straight financially because of the catalog of music he has is truly legendary and will stand the test of time. People will be buying his music for the rest of his life and long after his death because he truly influences the art form of hip-hop, he is an icon whether you think so or not. Your point is ridiculous. You are saying that an artist will only get paid off of his work if it gets played on the radio or in a movie, maybe for you and your bullshit high school high work but not for an artist at the caliber of a Nas or a Jay-Z. I know the execs saw your green pea ass coming and put away the vaseline. High scool High? Fuck outta here 'fore I smack fire out yo ass shawty! Kick rocks Bitch!!
Alright guys all those opinion were good. All you guys have good thoughts and strong points toward the subject. But if I may:
Jay-Z said on album number 2 "you cop these last 2 bricks/ 'cause after this I'll be on someother shit!"
That's when the selling of S. started! You can't blame a man for doing what he says.
DO you want him to do mare for the music? Of course
Do you want him to be a better M.C. on his albums? Sure
Did he tell you "I'm not a rapper, just a hustler that knows how to rap"? Yes
The answer is in the lyrics for most of the east coast rappers.
Nasir, to me, is the epitome of what a M.C. should be:
Stay's relevent to the times.
Uses different sounds, styles and techniques to give you an array of songs.
Have a LOVE and APPREICITION for the music. ( you'll never hear NAS tell his customer I don't like rap I just want to make the money, or an absurd statment like that and still expect you to go buy the albums.)
Don't pollute his albums with the big names and making an attempt to keep in fresh.
Don't fear bending the steretype of rappers and do uncommon topics. Like war and politics and personal issues(why puff gave Shyne different laywers, Y didn't L.A. ried get a cut of Usher and Peace to Emoney Bags)
There are two different People here that share the same occupation and have thier own paths toward thier want and needs.
We al know Jay got money. If you think Nas don't then check the stats. Nas has made his money from Columbia. He's their only urban artist and get his just deserves.
Love to see the anger and passion towards the music you guys have a good life!!!!!
Please, clothing lines trandy- give me a break. As talented, gifted and intelligent Nas doesn't "need to look for a 401k plan". That is straight ignorant as the person who came up with such a foolish comment.
let it be known on this forum if you hate nas and diss him his true fans that love hip hop and LOVE the APPREICITION for the music NAS makes will defend him ..we not dick riders like you jay z fans you just love him for his money and his catchy hooks its was said over and over again you just love jay z not his music cause he is a hustler he even hustle his own fans but he is just a biter not a writter ...but we love the music hip hop and what it stands for the fight so we will defend the krs 1,rakeem ,nas ..you guys are killing hip hop ..like murda material said he use to like jay z and nas but he likes EMiniem WHY HE LIKES THE NEXT CATCHY COMMERCIAL SHIT ..YO FAKE FANS LOVE A NIGGA THEN JUMP THE BANDWAGON ..JAY Z IS JUST AND ACT ITS JUST CLUB MUSIC BUT NAS MUSIC WILL LAST FOREVER ..THE TRUTH HURTS ..BUT EXCEPT IT ..ITS WHY NAS DESTROYED JAY Z CAUSE HE DESTROYED HIM WITH THE TRUTH ..READ THIS FORUM LOOK HOW MANY NAS FANS HE HAS ..YOU GUYS ARE LOST YOU CATS KILLED MALCOLM AND MARTIN ..I WIL GO TO BATTLE WITH NAS ANYDAY
Obviously the man is relevant. To dismiss Nas is to dismiss the music that hip hop fans have always been attracted to. Listen to "NY State of Mind" and tell me that's not one of the illest songs ever dropped. Let's not forget about DJ Premiere! The watered down wanna be gangsta hard core, shoot em' up, look at me and all my bling, music that is taking over the airwaves today is depressing. Remember Sugar Hill's 'The Message'- the video for that song illustrated where hip hop came from, the streets and the people who had to live in that fucked up environment day in an day out. It's obvious that Jigga is after the money, he constantly reminds us of that. If you want to go shake your ass and not have any reflective thoughts on hip hop, then listen to jigga. There is something calming in the way Nas approaches hip-hop and I'm glad that he had a few whack albums, it made him come back with a vengence. I'm tired of musicians informing me of how much money they have, why the fuck should I care, tell me something about life that I don't know, inform me with knowledge, that, once upon a short time ago WAS hip hop.
Peace
Hey murda-material(real nice name) I would love to suck his dick and uh so would you so don't play, you know that nigga is a beast, you might just get some knowledge if you suck hard enough, better yet YOU may need to ride it. Holla!!!
see the truth hurts its all over the place you jay z fans cant hold your head up in pride cause your dick riders that love the money and that commercial fake biteing hip hop shit ..but we nas fans can look at ourselves in the mirror and know what we stand for ..nas music will last forever not the money you cant die with your money but your ideas and thoughts last forever..malcolm and martin died to speak the truth now rappers get a chance to speak and all they talk about is the money they make for the record labels there gold ,cars and hoes ..shake that ass jay z ,50 cent and all the comercial others you monkeys for the record label ..fck jay z what he say thats made any sense that he is a hustler who gives a fuck ..about his money
Who knows how much money Nas has saved, or how much he has invested in real estate or other things.
In addition, there is nothing wrong with not following behind whatever old white man that tells rappers that they need to bleed hip hop dry by selling every product known to man.
In addition, Nas may not have time like Jay Z becaus he actually has to write his own rhymes instead of biting others.
Why is it that Nas fans don't seem to have a business mind? You talk about private jets and hanging out in the Hamptons as if it's a bad thing. If you had the money, you'd probably do it too. You say that Jay is brown-nosing, but when you start making money, those people are actually kissing your ass. They want to make money off of you, but Jay is taxing them and they making 25% while he gets 50%. Smart if you ask me. Both have beautiful, black R&B chicks, and more money than any of us have right now. (to all Jay-Z fans)Don't forget Nas dropped out of school at a very young age. He's doing pretty well for a dropout if you ask me. (to all Nas fans) Don't forget the opening skit from Volume 1: In My Lifetime....."I'm not a rapper. I'm a hustler. It just so happens I know how to rap." Jay-Z is doing what almost every rapper's dream was (taking over the rap game, literally). When Russell Simmons was over Def Jam, nobody talked about him using rap, so don't try to play that card with Jay. You complain about white people being over something, but as soon as a brother, that was a rapper by the way, takes over, ya'll hating. As long as both of them are living well, why should we complain? We should all be out here getting our piece of the pie too. To those that said that Jay was using Dame and Biggs, let's not forget who the bread-winner of Roc-a-Fella was. Don't think that it was a coincidince that they sold shortly after he retired. What did you think their stock was gone get higher?
If you’re listening to the mix as you read this…then you know ya boy Hov’ is at the center of a brewing controversy concerning (of all things) the originality of his lyrics. The now notorious “Writer Or Biter fire was apparently sparked by a mysterious mix which features Jay-Z backing up some rap classics with Roc-versions of his own.
The mix has generated a considerable buzz…L.A.’s Power 106 FM ran an exhaustive list of the allegedly bitten lyrics on their website, and also solicited on-air feedback from listeners. The track has been getting crazy airtime in several major markets, including Chicago, NY,Atlanta, and Miami.
I took it to the streets to see what’s good with public opinion. One major on-air radio personality in Detroit took issue with the sheer number of verses that Jay used for his own personal benefit. “, I was just surprised at how much of (Jay-Z’s) classic shit ain’t really his classic shit. You know?â€Biting is the Hip-Hop version of plagiarism. According to Webster, to plagiarize: is to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own: to use (another's production) without crediting the source.Could Jay-Z have really been trying to “pull one over†on Hip-Hop fans? Industry insiders say the answer is yes.
I am going to down load this song today. I got to hear this shit for myself.
NAS is an artist. He raps, he writes and most of all he loves life. You dont see him jumping out the window to get media coverage. You never even hear from him untill he drops an album. ergo. He's not that beat for this fame shit. Life's bigger than that. WORRY ABOUT YOUR FAMILY AND YOUR HAPPYNESS, FUCK EVERYTHING ELSE!
you see this is a typical jay z fan this is why you guys like jay z nothing more ..when the money is gone you jump the bandwagon thats why i said he is a popstar ..nothing more then a biter and comercial act that shake his ass for the record company ..see read the comments by BUBBA as and example a typical jay fan "Why is it that Nas fans don't seem to have a business mind? You talk about private jets and hanging out in the Hamptons as if it's a bad thing. If you had the money, you'd probably do it too. You say that Jay is brown-nosing, but when you start making money, those people are actually kissing your ass. They want to make money off of you, but Jay is taxing them and they making 25% while he gets 50%. Smart if you ask me. Look People:
Real critics know that Jay-z and nas are about the same as far as skills, one just goes about it differently.
Those who continue to say that Jay-z is a biter is one clueless person, and is just a hater.
Questions:
1. If jay-z is such a biter why are people always jacking his lines?
2. Wasnt Jay-z talking about the same stuff like ice and cars in reasonable doubt as he was his other albums?
3. Could it be the reason that people say jay talks about ice too much because he is the most thorough at describing it?
4. Someone name one person who can flip lyrics when talking about jewels as good as Jay-z.
5. Did jay-z silence his critics when he said he was that thorough plus he knows his own flow is foolish?
6. Why are people always quoting jay-z lyrics in magazines, and blogs and on internet sites or just out in the street? The ones he didn't so called "bite".
Jay-z could easily not say any of Bigs lyrics and would still be hot. What Lyric has jay-z said that was bitten that people repeat?
i only have one thing to say jay is a biter the truth per comments below thats it ..

ok. I want to respond to mr. Ireverents comments about Nas. in your thoughts you have aknowledged that nas does not have a clothing line or a club or own any real estate. True Nas fans that listen to his music know that Nas is not your everyday rapper. Nas did not steal anyone's flow the way that Jay-z does. He is an intellectual rapper. He does not just rap, he is so much more than that. Nas is an intellectual and if you listen to his music you will aknowledge this. No Nas does not have a clothing line or a club. WHO CARES!!!!! It is sad the way that hip hop is going there is no music anymore, just music to shake your ass to in the club. Nas is one of the few rappers that makes music. real music. The real shit not that 50 cent bullshit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
who gives a fuck. Police are still in the hood locking up our black brothers
Nas and Jigga are cool with me. Also, Nastradamus was a good album with bad songs. I Am though was the hottest in the Summer of '99
Nas is sik hes lyrical insane jus like jadakiss but tha industry onli shows fake thugs like 50 cent nd jay z jigga is iight sumtimez but hes a dick rider nd 50 rides feminems dick ( eminem for da dumass) Record sales- dont mean nuttin Lyrical shit u kan feel nd love nd say damn daz truee is ill nas nd jada make tht Nas retiring ? who talks dez lies? YOU DONT RETIRE FROM RAP ALL RAPPERS WHO SAY I NEED 2 RETIRE ARE FAKE MONEY GREDDY BASTARDS
i hate that the game is so blurred with money that we thinking into what revenues nas is going to invest in after his raps fall through. u niggas are stupid. nas is that cat that raps till he's shot. all you jay dick riders need to shove off. how many times did that nigga retire. i mean, i know takeover came out first but tell me who really won that whole bitch fest?
One Mic was scary enough because i took that as a retirement track. he's on the rise with this quan nigga. he's not much now, but with a mentor like nasir, its a matter of time before he blows. -Nahilj
man fuck allllll ya hatin asses my man nas is tha real shit no doubt about it i kno alot of ppl wonder y jayz quite?? y he outta of tha game? well im here to tell ya'll jay'z is outta of tha game cuz my man NAS put his career to an END!!! think about it NAS killed jay'z in that damn battle. NAS is gonna be here for some time, weather u like it or not! jay quit cuz he was spittin that fairy tale shit and soon or lata u gonna run outta stories to tell right? while on the other hand my man NAS talkin about real shit! shit that goes on in tha world today! and he's neva gonna run out cuz as long as the world and still goin around and my man nas is still livin his life then he gone SPIT! that real shit! thats wats wrong wit todays world, ya'll all caught up on that fairy tale shit, like everything is gonna be iight...NO its not and thas wat nas is tryin to tell ya'll dumb ass! but rappers like jay'z 50 cent and all dem bull shit rappers they not gonna be in tha rap game for long cuz they gonna run outta fairy tale shit to say!
