Benzino's Resignation A Smokescreen?

OK... so Benzino announced today that he has "resigned" as the Chief Brand Executive and Co-owner of The Source Magazine.

But what does that really mean? Can a man who's built his entire career around The Source since it's inception truly step away from the reigns? Or will he go back underground and rule from behind the curtain like he used to?

I say it's a smokescreen... a trick of the eye... to make the public believe the magazine is back on track. I'll believe it when I don't see a two-page ad spread for Zino's next project in the mag.

Benzino's retirement = SOHH suspect

who cares... the source is ova! It's to little to late.

I'll believe it when I see Interscope ads...

See they fucked up getting in that beef with Em. I personally don't like that little blonde hair muthafukka or his music, but as a magazine reporting on music you have to take a non bias position. They destroyed a productive and profitable business to prove exactly what? They were fuck when he decided to use that magazine as his on personal vehicle for his on personal crusade. So I see this as an attempt to take some of the negative heat off the magazine. Anyway you cut it he still gone be getting a cut of the profits. Money over bullshit any day of the year!

Rumor has it that benzino has been giving it to David Mays up the ass for a long time! (what's new...)

Benzino is Wack!...the source is wack! Eminem went at him with tracks like "bully"-"the sauce"-Benzino has shit on "Game"-50cent-now he has a 2 page spread in the april 05 source about some wack ass song look nto my eyes....he had to throw in....Respone to eminems toy soldiers"..listen benzino....stop tryin to use your wack mag and eminem to sell records becase its obvious that your music aint cuttin it.

Yo Benzino need to understand that nobody gonna like him anytime soon. Beefin wit Em just make him look stupid. I used to get the Source but its all propaganda now, what nigga you know want read that bullshit? Aftermath the best label out and they never say shit about it. But Eminem makes his best shit when he dissin someone so I hope Benzino keep it up.

I feel no pitty for any rapper who goes at the best rapper in the game with the excuse of he is hurting the game. How can you be hurting the game when what you spit everyone can relate to.Finally he may open his eyes and realize he had been hurting the game. I was one of the few ppl who copped zino cd with the singles rock the party. And very very shockingly found out the best cut on the cd was a song with wyclef also yielding the best verse non other then wyclef. The song zino had with jadakiss was something he shoulda been ashamed of. Jada was spittin fire yet zino couldnt even squeeze a bottle of fluid for em..

Fuck Em......The Source has been around for years and gets alot of respect. It's sad that it has fallen from grace. But black folks need to stop praisin' this white boy. I'm glad Zino pulled his skirt, but unfortunately he didn't had the skillz or knack to really get at him. All you black Em fans keep forgettin' about Em making a mockery out of us in certain songs.......always kissin' white folks asses....FUCK ANYONE THAT SUPPORT EM....50, Dre....all of them!! Just like Star from Star and Bucwild said once "He's a rapping John Wayne...riding off into the sunset, leaving the house-niggas behind to blaze behind him"....Sad shit!

I have to agree "FUCK EM", he is an average emcee, but because he is white they hype his flow up. He is more like the Howard Stern of Hip Hop and no where near the best emcee. Shit, he said it him self...."he is having so much success because he is white". Now that is straight out of the horses mouth.

ARE YOU GUYS SERIOUS? FUCK EMINEM? WHAT BLACK (FAR LESS FOR WHITE) RAPPER DO YOU KNOW, THAT CAN GET AN AVERAGE 4 MICS OR 4.5 MICS ON EVERY ONE OF HIS ALBUMS? KEEP IT REAL, SPEAK ON EVERYTHING WITHOUT HOLDING BACK? RESPOND TO ANY BEEF THROWN AT HIM? HOOK UP WITH DOCTOR DRE WHEN NOBODY ELSE COULD AND START A NEW DYNASTY? HE BARELY ROCKS "BLING" HE JUST KEEPS IT REAL... NO FANCY ESCALADES IN THE VIDEOS... NO VIDEO HOES.... JUST LYRICS AND SATIRE? JAY-Z DIDN'T EVEN COMMENT WHEN NAS SAID EMINEM MURDERED HIM ON RENEGADE... YOU GUYS DON'T WONDER WHY? HE'S ARGUABLY THE BEST OUT THERE AS FAR AS CREATIVITY AND FLOW...

IF EMINEM IS AVERAGE... WHO IS ABOVE AVERAGE, JUELZ SANTANA, CAM'RON??? YOU GUYS ARE FUCKING HATERS... ENOUGH HAS BEEN SAID (BY ME!!!) SUCKERS....

BENZINO IS JUST DOING HIS BUSINESS, REGARDLESS OF THE DRAMA THE SOURCE HAS COME ACROSS, THE SOURCE IS A WORLD WIDE MAGZINE THAT IS READ BY MILLIONS! DO YOUR THAN BENZINO! BUT DECIDE IF U BE IN THE RAP GAME OF PUBLICITY BUSINESS!

you gotta be shittin me sayin eminem is an average rapper. stop being dumb for a second and think about it. hate him all you want but gove the man his fuckin props! dat cracker nice. if he was black he would have sold half and he would be the best lyrically easily. ok, ya top five easily. benzino ruined the source and i dont want anyone to comment unless they own a copy of every issue since 96 when nas was on the cober for it was written, or unless u remember the wu cover that was just a big ass red "w" that shit they pulled on angie martinez was dirty. but stop being dumb about eminem lyrical skill please. it makes you look extremely ignorant in this rap conversation to call eminem average lyrically.

The Source is still a good magazine they just say what everybody else is too scared too. But this ain't new. The Source has always been very opiniated and political. Their cover has always been The Source The Magazine of Hip Hop Music, Culture and Politics. They have always been more then just a music magazine. People just jumping on the bandwagon dissing them. They still a very good magazine. What hip hop magazine put ODB on the cover after he died? The Source. What hip hop magazine put Ghostface on the cover when his album dropped? What magazine gave Dead Prez a 4.5 rating? The Source. What magazine is as big as the Source but still dedicates so much of every issue to Independent and Underground artists? Nobody. And people say The Source is bias but what about XXL. Them boys are way more bias then the source.

Gimme a break. The Source has been a joke since half their staff jumped to XXL and since Jonathan Schector (the other original co-creator) left. Benzino drove the magazine into the ground. From his highly publicized beef (no one really knows to this day what truly caused it other than jealousy) with Eminem, to his comment made about Russell Simmons, Outkast and The Roots, to his blatant self promotion. XXL is more biased? No. They put out what sells magazine. Yeah the source did all that stuff you said. Does the Source do annual Biggie and Pac tributes annually? The Source put ODB on the cover AFTER he died because it would sell, not because they are true to hip hop. If they were true or any better than XXL, they would have put him on the cover when he came out of jail and talked about his road to recovery, but he was irrelavent to the source until his death. And Dead Prez's album isnt a 4.5 mic album, that was an overrating. The source has based itself on nothing more than an Eminem smear campaign and blatant self promotion of their own artists the past few years. There are several rappers in the game that dont even want to be on the cover of the source because of that issue.... not all of them are affiliated with Eminem. When Benzino is giving himself 4/ 4.5 mics, and streets disciple isnt getting a 5, something is wrong. The magazine went out of its way to blast Eminem in EVERY issue. I saw them go out of there way in a bushwick Bill article to ask his view on Eminem. Who the fuck cares what Bushwick Bill thinks about Eminem. The racist issue, they had quotes from several people (i.e. Styles P, Bun B,) that have also stated that they didnt believe he was a racist, but refused to push that. The fact is, the Source never wanted to crush Eminem because if they did, there goes their publicity. Their plan was to keep that the basis of topic to keep the magazine selling. Anyone who knows ANYTHING about how a business is ran, knows that's exactly what they were doing. The longer Benzino stays with the Source the more its gonna fail. They took the hip-hop bible and turned it into a circus act. Lets face it, the easiest way for Benzino to make money (or for anyone in that case) in hip hop is to have stories about the guyat the top. Benzino didnt like Eminem, thats all it boiled down to and he abused the power to talk about. Do you really think the ONLY rapper Benzino doesn't like is Eminem? Nope. But the other rappers can't help him gain fame and fortune. Battling Eminem can. If Zino was so into racial EQUALITY and all that hunky-dory crap, where were the notes in the anti Eminem campaign about how Ice Cube referred to white women as "Cave Bitches". Or how the X-Clan and Da Lench Mobb were blatantly racist. Lets face it, the minute you call any white guy racist it raises a seed of doubt in peoples minds thats hard the erase. That's why Benzino found Eminem to be an easy target to better himself financially. Eminem is a white rapper. And Zino's vendetta against a white man got a good portion of hip hop buyers (75% of hip hop purchasers are white) to not touch that magazine because it's viewed as kill-whitey propaganda, not as a hip hop mag anymore. If Benzino leaves the Source, it will be interesting to see how Mays reacts. If Zino is really gone, I see Mays following shortly. And personally if they both are gone and dont have any hand in The Source anymore..... I will purchase the first magazine that they are NOT involved with. If they both stay, they'll linger like cancer until the magazine can't survive anymore.

profound words by Jason ^^^^^^^.........

i find it hard to add ANYTHING of substance - you said it B!!!!!! damn.... hip-hop scholar we got here... lol (laffing my ass off at mister raymond 'benzino' scott....)

Jason:

You make good points. Bezino does have some trivial beef against Eminem.

But, The source is just saying what a lot of black people are thinking, but just doesnt have the guts to say. A lot of black people agree with the source about Eminem. I think they make good points, but They are overdoing it way too much. You must be white or something, cause you really harped on that issue. But the source was messing up before the Eminem thing. It was when Benzino started to go public and be seen all in the public's eye. He drew attention to himself. Now Streets disciple is definitely not a 5 Its more like a 3 1/2, I suggest you go listen to it a few more times. The source was also loosing its self when the record reports was coming out, giving artists bias ratings. I only take XXl's magazine ratings more seriously, because the source is giving Nelly's albums 4 and 3 1/2 mics. Thats garbage. The source are not doing real hip hop stories, are caught up in the celebrity part of it and not doing grass roots straight up street hip hop.

In conclusion, the source was going down despite the eminem hype, that was just icing on the cake. Blacks can not be racist, we can only be prejudiced. But the source has been losing itself when it stopped trying to be an informative magazine but tried to create drama.

I wasn't necessarily saying Streets Disciple was a 5mic album. Im saying if Benzino is a 4-4.5 mic album, than streets Disciple is. It was the first album that came to mind because it is sitting right in front of me. I can totally understand the disappointment in Eminem. As a white male, it was hard to see you're only true voice of representation in hip hop saying what he said. The thing is Eminem never ran from it like Benzino claimed. I applaud him for sticking his neck out. If he said it when he was 16 then IMO he should get a free pass. Black people can't be racist? Give me a break. That's a very ignorant statement. EVERY RACE IN THIS WORLD HAS THE CAPABILITY OF BEING RACIST. WHEREEVER your race is the minority you are subject to racism. It is no different in NY, LA, Chi, Tokyo, Saudi Arabia. Racism knows no color boundaries. Do I think ALL black people are racist? Absolutely not. I grew up in Sacramento, CA around a lot of African-Americans and did see certain things from that perspective. Which is why I understand people's disappointment on the issue with Eminem. However to err is human, to forgive is devine. Us as "white" hip hop america (which consumes the majority of hip hop from record stores) forgave and even ignored (again) The X-Clan, Da Lench Mobb, Ice Cube among others for RACIST comments. Not prejudice.... RACIST. I totally agree with your views of The Source, but do't think for one minute that someones skin color can prevent them from being racist.

Jason, My man, I know you mean all good and well but this is the real world.

Jason: You are not the first person I told this to and definitely wont be the last. There is no way blacks can be Racist. We can be racist toward other blacks, but not toward whites. Racist is defined as systematic and actions of discrimination. You even said it yourself. "WHEREEVER your race is the minority you are subject to racism." Exactly the point. Africans are in the minority we only make up 12 percent of the population. I possibly cant have a racist action to you because blacks have no power or control over anything. NOTHING. WE DONT OWN ANYTHING IN THIS WORLD. I will say it again I can only be prejudiced, meaning my thoughts, but In reality what black institution can stop you from achieving?
Now Jason You might say oh this guy is an idiot he doesnt know what he is talking about. Go read some African Studies Books or go talk to any Proffessor of African American Studies and they will tell you the exact SAME THING. Like Levar Burton used to say. DONT TAKE MY WORD FOR IT.

"The Gifted One"...

ARE YOU SERIOUS? THERE'S NO WAY BLACKS CAN BE RACIST????? ARE YOU FUCKING OUT OF YOUR MIND, DUDE???? Racism is a state of mind, followed by dumb words and dumb actions. something blacks are very capable of.... (i should know, i'm black!!!!!)

you tryna tell me blacks can not discriminate against whites? we don't own anything in this world?? you are a fucking clown, take that 'gift' back to the store, for a refund. A dude like benzino, whom i would assume considers himself black or partly-black... owns a motherfucking hip-hop mag... and he boycotts the top-selling rapper (albeit the most-lyrical rapper out there), Eminem? if that ain't racism, i don't know what IS. and worse off, this dude got Nelly on the cover? Regardless of sales... who really gives that much of a FUCK about NELLY????

when you point blank boycott Eminem, i don't care what you OWN or don't OWN - you're being racist. I bet Benzino would trade his own lyrical abilities (or lack thereof)... for Eminem's rhyming skills, but i also bet he wouldn't trade for Eminem's blonde straight hair, and skin color.

Go figure.

YO FUK BENZINO < FUK JARULE EMIENEM AND G _UNIT WILL FUKIN KILL EM SO FUK U BENZINO ........MUTHA FUKA

GGGGGGGG G-UNIT

just cause a muthafucka say nigga he a racist we say honkey, white this and that, redneck, etc. so that make us racist EM only roll wit nigga's his manager white but look at his clique look who signed 50 when nobody would, d-12, o b, he said black bitches and we say black, white bitches do that make us any different. I know racism exist cause I see the shit everyday it's fucked up but we can respond or ignore it and 85% of the time I respond but benzino used to have beef wit marky marky and the funky bunch from boston also. He half/white and he always attacking white rappers on some bullshit that he always started. We fucked up as blacks when we let other people support our shit more than we do. But this america and what's wrong with white people buyin hip hop that's support anyways. White peole buy more sport tickets than anybody you don't see NBA or NFL players complaining about who supporting them more do you
