April 2005 Archives

LOL, some kid got expelled from school for rapping during a class break. The article says "a teacher heard the boy and accused him of making threats against teachers", but the article doesn't say who he was listening to.

Hmmmm, I wonder who he was listening to.

In support of Lil Kim's e-mail campaign to Judge Lynch, I've decided to write an email too. I made sure to follow the careful instructions for writing my Lil Kim Support letter because I don't want to see Kim behind bars, UNLESS she's behind my bars.

What started out as a few articles on the departmental structure of The Source, has ended in a 100 car pile up.

I hope this is just Teflon Tee's jumping on the bandwagon of producing t-shirts that request the freedom of incarcerated rappers ala Free Yayo.

With all of this coverage on the election of the new Pope, I knew I could rely on BET to still be showing videos.

Exclusive: Inside The Conclave

Who would have thought to hide a tiny lens inside of a Cardinal's hat?

I did! And that's how I got these exclusive pictures as to what goes on behind closed doors.

Dag, some white girl went to school with cornrows and got sent home. Well, I say, if you wanna look like a nigga, get treated like a nigga.

I totally respect the works of Russell Simmons, The Vegan Who Sells Leather Goods, but for the life of me, I have to wonder, why he would sign Run as his first artist to his new label?

...you need more people.

No one sober before 3am is sexually harassing you.

It's all in your mind. And who/what is that next to you?

OK... so Benzino announced today that he has "resigned" as the Chief Brand Executive and Co-owner of The Source Magazine.

But what does that really mean? Can a man who's built his entire career around The Source since it's inception truly step away from the reigns? Or will he go back underground and rule from behind the curtain like he used to?

I love Raekwon to death. I respect his hustle. I play The Purple Tape about 3 to 4 times a year. And IMO his album is better than, gasp! But sometimes Rae can be annoying especially when he's giving himself TOO much credit.

Anyway in the new XXL he's claiming that him and Ghost "...was the first to be talking that Cristal shit. I know that for a fact. I never even heard of Cristal before that." Well, Rae, you're not.

Nas After Rap

So, I was just thinking. What will Nas do after rap? I mean when you really think about it his career is very 1 dimensional. He hasn't shown any interest in acting. He doesn't have his own fashion line. To my knowledge he doesn't have a club or own any real estate. Bravehearts and Nayshawn aren't really popping artists that he can eat off.

For a guy who claimed to make his enemies retire, he sure don't seem ready for his retirement. Who knows, maybe Kelis will hit it big and he can hang out like Bobby hung with Whitney.

What's In A Name?

The other day while looking at the back of my Beanie Sigel album The B. Coming, I noticed it was Damon Dash's new imprint, The Damon Dash Music Group.

And then, I noticed the tiny logo next to it which read 'Criminal Background Records' and it got me thinking - where is the longevity in a record label like Criminal Background Records?

Don't get me wrong. I think it's good that rappers create companies for themselves, but at the same time what you name them is very important.

Take a look.
