Don't act like you don't care what white people think. The fact is that what they think of blacks has a major affect on the jobs that we get, how our kids are educated, whether we get a home mortgage, etc.

The fact is that whites still have the power in America and as such, what they think of us as a people will affect us. It's not fair, it's not nice, but it's the truth.

Additionally, whites overall don't see us as individuals with various thoughts, education levels, aspirations, backgrounds, etc. That's why, when you're the only black face at your office, they always look to you to speak for the black race. We live in the Country with the most opportunites. We get free education all the way up to the 12 grade. Some countries you don't have that privlige. Man the ideals of each individual creates a barrier to what is acceptable and non-acceptable. The issues of respect in the black community is share by the hispanic community as well. first of all the only ones ignorants are the ones who are calling the black people on the tape ignorant. from looking at the video, i saw a lot of frustrated black people most from the projects, with probably 5 kids, 3 jobs, and what not, who were given the false impression that they had won a large amount of money. What most of you fail to realize is that the concept of white supremacy has been ingrained in the DNA of white people, they're convinced of there superiority at this point and if you go through life thinking you have to prove yourself to them you've accepted it also. Sure, they have the money and you have to maneuver your way in the system to get yours, but I never carry the psychological baggage of trying to prove anything to anyone.

I love black people. Intelligent and Ignorant we are all beautiful because we share the same past, one of inequality and injustice. It is definitely an upset to hear someone (who to many (whites) represents the majority) not speaking properly. But it is unfair to criticize them. Rather than critizism we should take a look at how it reflects our community use their lack of education to motivate ourselves to improve on the literacy and education in our own communities. It is very easy to point fingers and blame-- "Oh that ignorant black person has set us back". Well, if you feel they set us back WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO TO PUSH US FORWARD? WHAT CHANGE CAN YOU MAKE IN YOUR OWN LIFE TO REPRESENT THE BLACK COMMUNITY IN A MORE POSITIVE WAY? Answer that PLEASE!?!

A strong command of the English language is important for effective and clear communication. Unfortunately, the quality of education received at high schools in impoverished areas are poor. Educators are justifibly more concerned with preventing teenage pregnancies, violence, crime and drugs: teaching Kings English is low on the priority list. Simply put, kids in the ghetto have different issues than rich kids and these issues often manifest into adulthood. Whether its the jive talking brother who grew up in BK and went to PS 91 or the coke addict, ferrari driving, prostitute lover who grew up in the Hamptons and went to private school.
Let's keep in mind, that education and knowledge is out there for anyone that wants it bad enough. Booker T Washington taught himself English during a time when if caught he would have been lashed with a whip or worse. What's our excuse now?

I read an article where Minister Farrakahan wants to have another march. Do we as a people think that we are further along than before? Or are we just, at least some of, letting excuses stand in for our lack of initiative? I sometimes say, "black folks just won't act right" and my 9 yr old daughter gets offended. She says, "Now Mama, that's not right. You're black." Do we help or hinder one another? What are we teaching the future?

Here's the best way YOU as an individual can help the black community: Go to work, make your money, live in a black neighborhood, and spend money at black owned establishments. (and quit asking for the hook up on free stuff everytime one of your friends gets a new job).

I think the most important point made is the value of education. That little piece of paper, called a degree, can open doors. Not all white people view blacks or other so called minorities the same. Many of us admire the struggles that you have endured. I would like to state the best thing for the black community to do is utilize some of the grants and scholarships available and attend college, get a career, help out your people. Change will not come without effort. Maybe stop worrying about who has the spinning wheels and gold jewelry that is not worth half of what you paid for it and buy a house or start a retirement fund. The problem is the media and the way they depict us in certain situations. That is why we are always thinking that we look bad as a race. To be honest, when I read the first posts I didn't know what to expect before the video loaded.

When I saw the clip I couldn't understand what is was that was so embarassing.

When I watched the clip, rather than being embarassed, I was reminded of the harshness of the lives of Africans living in America, the stark contrast of the haves and the have nots, with the haves scurrying as far away as they can to get away from the have nots and their traumatic history.

Why are you embarassed? Because of the accent, the grammar, the tone, the speed of speech? What is it exactly, because that is so superficial and blinded - lack of opportunity does not equate to lack of intelligence or common sense, neither does a 'good vocabulary or the ability to articulate like a posh caucausian' mean that what you say is worth listening too.

The issue should be why is it that so many black peeople are reliant on dreams of winning the lottery? Why don't they have the opportunity to aspire for something more possible and tangible? Why is a paper allowed to take money daily from these people and then renege based on a get out clause in tiny print?

For those that are ashamed of these people, you need to look into yourselves, what is it that you can see that scares you?

Is it the fact that you are just two mortgage payments away from being them? IE If you lost your job tomorrow and suffered hard times, could you still be so superior and supercilious?

If you're that upset, why not offer to go down to that neighbourhood and do some evening classes or something? In other words why not be a part of the solution, instead of putting down your less fortunate brothers and sisters.

Remember while you look down on them, and try to forget who you are, the white man is always and will always be looking down on you and will never forget who / what you are - a melanated superior black being.

Well, I'm white and I happen to know many black folks, both intelligent and ignorant. One thing I can't stand is anyone calling the white man "the devil." Yes, white people have done terrible things, but just like you can't lump every African tribe together, you can't paint all of us the same. The French joined the Indians and fought the English, who were known to be brutally harsh toward the natives. The Hutu tribe (I believe) in Africa brutally murdered the Tutses with machete's in the late 90's. Every race has done evil shit, because thats the nature of man. Thinking of every white person as the enemy is a slap in the face to every grandson/daughter of an abolitionist and every white person who dared say we're all equal, and as little as thats focused on in history class, there were many who believed that. There were whole businesses in Africa run by the chiefs of the tribes where they'd sell off conquered men. I'm not excusing what white people did, but human nature is really an ugly thing and we've all fucked over our fellow man. I love black people and I've met plenty who can have intelligent conversation. As far as these people shown in the clip, they're only a product of where they were raised. Thats not the fault of blacks or whites, but a society that no matter how hard it tries, can never keep everyone equal. If the news interviewed a trailer park outside of birmingham alabama, the white people would be just as ignorant about their lottery tickets, which I also feel is a legitimate bitch. And as far as white kids wanting to be black, if you ask them, they don't want to be black. They want to be identified with hip hop as a culture, being that it now encompasses many races. Those individuals DID play the lottery; who WERE they supposed to interview? It didn't appear as if they were on a college campus interviewing English Lit majors.
