March 2005 Archives

I guess Interscope ran out of artists 'cause Fat Joe is on the cover of the new XXL. This is probably the best issue in a minute. The 'The Making Of Raekwon's Only Built 4 Cuban Linx...' which is worth the price alone.

The only problem with the issue is the XL rating of Beanie Sigel's The B. Coming. The Lloyd Banks' Hunger For More also got a XL and it really wasn't all that. Someone needed to pull a Benzino and change the rating to a XXL. The album is almost flawless depending on your taste.

Ok, so I'm having a 'BET Moment'.

First, they got this dude Jeff here who's suppose to be their politic social cat talking about the Terri Schiavo case. What's up with the dreds? Are dreds the official "I'm righteous/social" look?

MTV: Stop Fronting

Check out these headlines from MTV.com:

State Property Members Stress Independence, Don't Take Orders
Jadakiss & Fat Joe Sound Off
Master P, Silkk The Shocker Charged With Gun Possession

It's funny how MTV.com reports on all this stuff when shit is hot. It's rare to see Jadakiss on MTV. You never see State Property getting that MTV love like Nelly.

It's only when it's some drama jumps off when they report on these artists.

Culture vultures.

Dave Mays is really stretching the boundaries of Hip-Hop too far. In an article at Media Week, the co-owner of The Source said:

"For anyone who's 18 to 34, almost everything they do is determined by hip-hop, from what airline they fly to what food they eat..."

Now I may not want to use the airline that Aaliyah used, but I damn sure ain't flying based on what airline Memphis Bleek is using.

Niggerdom Strikes Again

Black people, let's talk...

When watching the evening news, do you (like me) cringe when a black person is interviewed -- afraid of what may come out of his mouth?  Knowing that the news media will pick out the most ig-nant black person they can find to make a comment?

Fat Joe Steals Jay-Z's MoJo

So I'm watching this new Fat Joe video, Safe 2 Say. [ Windows Hi | Windows Lo ]

Ok, maybe it's me, but is Fat trying to be more and more like Jay-Z? First, Joe gets his flow down pat. Now he's using Just Blaze. (and the track sounds similar to Hov's PSA)

SOHH what's next?, Crac-A-Wear? The 50/50 Waistline Club?

P. Diddy - Hustler Of The Year!

P. Diddy needs to hop on the remix of Cassidy's "I'm A Hustler". P. Diddy has been hustling for years since his early video appearances as a dancer in Doug E. Fresh's Summertime video. From starting Bad Boy Entertainment to getting publishing from Jadakiss for the rest of his natural born life, P. Diddy is a hustler.

Did anyone catch The Apprentice last night with Lil Kim, Lil Jon, Fat Joe and Jadakiss? I did and once again The Apprentice played Hip-Hop out.

I Fit The Description

As I write this, I'm thinking back to 10 years ago when I was snatched up by the police because I 'fit the description'. I was on 143rd and Convent Avenue hanging out with some friends. I must have been there for about 6 hours straight. I finally decided to go home.

So last night, The Mixtape Awards gave Smack DVD The Best DVD Magazine Award for the year.

IMHO, not SOHH...

Fat Joe's Extra Love For BIG

Today while reading SOHH.com's The Top 25 "What If The Notorious BIG Was Still Here?" List, I seriously bugged out reading Fat Joe's comment.

"Fat Joe and Biggie would have made a Twins album. I was gonna sign to Bad Boy when Biggie died and we was going do an album together. That's when Atlantic signed me; they gave me mine own label and stole me from Puff Daddy." - Fat Joe

WTF?!?

Who Protects Us From You?

In 1984, Bernhad Goetz shot four black males on the New York City Subway. He had a feeling that they were going to rob him because he had been robbed before. Even though the jury acquitted him, Goetz did 8 months for illegal weapsons possession. This case raised the standards of the justifiable homicide defense which wouldn't be felt again until...

Missy Elliott - Road To Failure

Sure Missy Elliott is a major rap superstar and songwriter, but does she really have what it takes to pick talent? I don't think so. But I eagerly sat watching Missy Elliott's Road To Stardom every week. Probably because it comes on before Kevin Hill and I'm too lazy to change the channel.

What's up with Funkmaster Flex? He's always around instigating two camps beefing but he's never available when the beef jumps off. Flex is like that kid in your neighborhood that's always hyping others up to fight, but you never seen him in a fight. When it gets thick he's never around. The one time when you do hear about him throwing down is with DJ Steph Lova.
