Rappers vs Black Actors - Who Has The Credibility?

The early word from the ATL movie is that T.I. and Big Boi do a capable job in their turn as actors. You have to wonder though, would talented Black actors have brought even more to the roles?

If a male Black actor claps every time a rapper dies, then you can't blame him. For the past decade there's been a cascade of emcees putting quotes in their government names and making the flip to Hollywood, word to Chris 'Ludacris' Bridges. In the past rappers were regulated in movies to bit parts for marketing purposes while the real actors shined. Now they play the stars while the pro actors stand around as props.

I call this the Larenz Tate Phenomenon.

The decision to cast rappers over actors shows a lack of respect Hollywood has for Black films. I heard a Black actor complain once that for a white gangster film the studio hires the best writers, directors, and actors - like Depalma, Scorcese, and Deniro. However, for a Black gangster film they scoop up whoever has a hot single out, and spend more time on the soundtrack than the script.

I don't have any Samuel L. Jackson style hate in me though. Most of the movies I've seen with emcees in them have been decent. But decent isn't good enough anymore, especially now that we see if you give a real actor a decent script they'll rock an Oscar worthy performance.

I call this the Terrence Howard Phenomenon.

I don't have a problem with rappers acting if they can act. I just hate it when these non acting rappers take parts away from other up and coming struggling black actors that need the work more than they do. Most rappers do it for the money not for the love of the artform.

Posted by: Whateva at March 28, 2006 11:03 AM

I can't speak on Big Boi and T.I. yet.

Some rappers have done well in acting. LL Cool J, Queen Latifah, Ludacris, Andre 3000, Ice Cube, Ice-T, and Snoop have done well in acting.

50 Cent, Ja Rule, and Master P haven't done good at all in the movies they were in.

Posted by: chevy g. hustle at March 28, 2006 11:12 AM

I love me some T.I. just need to get that out the way...

i do agree that alot of black movies are garbage because they choose the hot rapper of the month and throw him in the movie. they dont want to make a legit and respected movie. they want to make money. with that being said though, there are some people who are multi talented. i.e.ice cube, ice t (well he was a awful rapper) Luda, mos def... so they can be in a movie and it will get a good response because they are trying. we havent seen T.I. act yet so we cant judge But we need to see new actors, there are to many starving actors out there to keep making mediocore movies and trash. not to say this is gonna be trash, i am looking forward to it. but after this if i see another 40 cent type movie come out im gonna throw up in my mouth.

Posted by: Mo at March 28, 2006 11:19 AM

I have to agree with Whateva. LL, Latifah, Will Smith and Ice Cube are great actors so I ain't mad at them for acting. But honestly Will started the phenominon of rappers getting lead parts whether they were ready or not. All that being said there are others out there that prove that given a chance they an become good actors. Well on their way in my opinion are Ludicrous, Ice-T (he's taken years to do it, but I think he is finally becoming a solid actor)and even DMX who has been convincing in everything I see him in. 50 is not there and I think his life story would have been so much better with a Mekhi Phifer in the role. I love Busta and Nas, but them boys can't act at all and shouldn't just be given roles for the sake of a soundtrack.

Posted by: Bird at March 28, 2006 11:21 AM

Chevy did you say snoop was a good actor?

Posted by: wha at March 28, 2006 11:22 AM

PEOPLE GET WHAT THEY WANT, SO ICE CUBE DIDNT DO WELL IN HIS MOVIE, SO PAC DIDNT DO WELL IN HIS MOVIES. GET REAL IF SOMEONE HAS TALENT DONT PUT THEM IN A BOX, THEN AGAIN SOME SCRIPITS JUST FIT A PERSONS PERSONALITY. ICE CUBE WAS BOYZ IN DA HOOD, YET MENACE TO SOCIETY WAS JUST AS HOT AND IT DIDNT START A RAPPER BUT THERE WERE RAPPERS IN IT, I MEAN THAT IS JUST WHAT PEOPLE DO, BLAIR UNDERWOOD AINT NO RAPPER BUT CRUSH GROVE SET THE STAGE FOR ALL OF THIS TODAY. IT IS WHAT IT IS...STOP HATIN AND EITHER WATCH IT OR NOT...LIFE CAN BE SO SIMPLE IF PEOPLE STOP BITCHEN AND DO YOU!!!!! TRU STORY!

Posted by: E at March 28, 2006 11:22 AM

Oh snap, how could I forget Mos Def? He is a better actor than any rapper as far as I am concerned.

Posted by: Bird at March 28, 2006 11:29 AM

FIRST AND FORMOST ALL BLACK PEOPLE CAN ACT..... WE HAVE TO ACT LIKE THINGS ARE OK WHEN WE KNOW THAT WHITE PEOPLE ARE GETTING OVER ON US. WE HAVE TO ACT HARD BCUZ BEING ANY OTHER WAY IS NOT ACCEPTIBLE IN OUR NEIGHBORHOODS. WE HAVE TO ACT LIKE ANIMALS JUST TO GET A LITTLE PIECE OF THE AMERICAN DREAM. ACTING IS JUST SECOND HAND TO OUR PEOPLE, SOME DO A GOOD JOB WHILE OTHERS NEED TO TRY HARDER, DONT YOU SIT AROUND A PRACTICE B4 YOU CALL OUT OF WORK! GET THE PROPER SICK VOICE FOR THAT ILLNESS THAT YOU JUST CAUGHT. ITS JUST WHAT WE DO, AND ITS UP TO THE DIRECTOR TO GET THE MOST OUT OF A PERSON. AND THATS NOT TO SAY THAT WE ARE ALL GOOD ACTORS, BUT BEING A CLASS CLOWN OR THE CENTER OF ATTENTION ISNT SOMETHING WE ARE SCARED OF OR SOMETHING THAT WE THINK WE CANT ACHIEVE!

Posted by: E at March 28, 2006 11:31 AM

^^Pac didn't do well in his movies? Your're kidding, right? Juice?

He was a trained actor. His whole Thug Life persona was an act! And I love Pac. But think about it, he had you believing that he was thugged out!

Ice Cube? Boyz In Tha Hood? Not a good movie? You're smoking crack.

On another note, Xzibit held it down in Derailed.

Posted by: BlackActor at March 28, 2006 11:36 AM

Some rappers are pretty good actors. But the thing is I don't mind the other rappers getting a shot. Most actors don't rock the world with there first movies - it takes time. If given the chance I'm sure some rappers could be decent actors.

Just like the rap game is about moving units, the movie game is about filling seats. If these "black actors" where putting asses in the seats than producers wouldn't put some of the rappers in the role.

And bad actors/rappers like Master P spend thier own money to make movies - maybe black actors need to take note. I know Duyane Martin (Tisha Campbell's husband) has set up his own production company to start shooting his own films. Other actors need to follow his lead and not wait for white producers to put them in a desired role or film.

Posted by: Raw Dawg at March 28, 2006 11:42 AM

My bad. I forgot bout Will Smith, Mos Def, and Pac.

I think Snoop was alright in Baby Boy.

Xzibit was cool in Derailed.

Posted by: chevy g. hustle at March 28, 2006 11:53 AM

Yeah Chevy...I am gonna have to go w/ the nayNO on Snoop...his acting skills are equivalent to a warm bucket of hamster vomit as well as Master P, LL, T-boz(she should never even look at a script again), Treach is terrible as well...But yes I do agree with you and a couple of others....Ice Cube, Will Smith , Ice-T, and Latifah are exceptional....Tupac was good too!!...I am gonna have to say that Black Actors have more credibility though....I am always more inclined to go see a movie w/ Samuel/ Lawrence F./ Morgan Freeman and others on that same pinnacle rather than most movies that I see with HH stars in them...Just like I enjoy listening to quality HH, I enjoy viewing quality films....Not to minimize classics like Boys in the Hood(one of my favorites)...but jugding the movies that have HH stars in them now....not even close....but on the real there really hasn't been too many good films lately with Black Actors..at least none that moved me...oh yeah..I am a MOS DEF head on the music side, but honestly I have not been moved by his performances...I can't be perped out just b/c I feel the brotha's HH art..his acting is just OK....I heard Andre is lack luster as well(oh yeah..I am an Andre fan as well...the nicest in the South...hands down!!!)

Posted by: DanaJackson at March 28, 2006 11:55 AM

C'mon people when will ya'll finally realize that most of these "GANGSTA" rappers that ya'll live and die for are just actors anyway! Its entertainment some are better than others but when they rap they are portraying a character, thats not who they really are! Wake up people! Rapping is Acting and Acting is Rapping, ya'll just dont get it do you?!

Posted by: RappinISanACT at March 28, 2006 12:04 PM

Shit, most rappers are actors anyway. Even if they're "keepin it real" on they're 1st album 95% are acting by theyre 3rd. I think if the person is capable(Cube(sometimes)Pac,Latifah, Ice T, X-zibit(surprisingly),Will Smith) then it's cool. On the other hand I know where The true Thespians are coming from. Some go on auditions for years b4 they get that big break and to have some dude fresh off tyhe block playin a good role is insulting. But holly wood is about the flavor of the month. I think time will tell who should be acting. Snoop is a garbage actor. Master P is very good in roles taylored to him (I'm Bout It, I Got The Hook Up), but shouldn't stray too far. In the end you can't knock anyone's hustle. Rappers are taking roles offered to them. Who wouldn't?

Posted by: HDB at March 28, 2006 12:07 PM

Some rappers can act, I will give them credit. But then there are a lot of them that cannot act worth of shit. This is putting a strain on "REAL" actors and actresses that are trying to make it in the big scene.

Posted by: gully son at March 28, 2006 12:09 PM

Dana, What up? You Didn't like Mos in The Hands that God Made? He's pretty good. What about Monsters Ball? Boyz N the Hood had both rappers and actors in it doing superb jobs. Matter of fact that was the movie that started the whole trend for the newer generation.

LL is garbage, Latifah does her thang, Will Smith was good in Six Degrees of Separation, Cube Was good in Boyz n The Hood and the Friday series.....

Posted by: HDB at March 28, 2006 12:32 PM

This is an entertainment business...
a lot of what actors and singers do,
on some level, are inter-related.

The reality is GOOD ACTORS usuallY secure the BEST ROLES.

Luda is a good actor but he won't be replacing Laurence Fishburne in Shakespeare's OTHELLO.

Don Cheadle, Angela Basset, and countless others don't always get great deals because the BEST BLACK MOVIES do not get major backing because WE DON'T SUPPORT THEM in large numbers! More blacks probably saw "get rich or..." than "Hotel Rwanda".

Blacks are a DIVERSE group of people and we should NEVER regulate ourselves to doing 1 thing. Oprah, Bill, Michael (jordan), Jamie Foxx every1 with good business sense ventures out into other interests when they r afforded the opportunity. Why should rappers be excluded?

THIS IS THE SAME COUNTRY WHERE AN ACTOR, RONALD REAGAN WAS PRESIDENT, RONALD SCHWARNEGGER (THE TERMINATOR) IS GOVERNOR AND A PRO WRESTLER WAS HOLDING A PUBLIC OFFICE...

While I remain extremely empathetic to struggling actors/actresses honing their craft (have FAITH people your day is coming), I am also in support of rappers doing their thing as well. IF the said rapper can do the job well.

Think about it: If we boxed ever1 in their special categories, Jamie Foxx would have missed that very deserved OSCAR!

Posted by: Dana in Jersey at March 28, 2006 12:33 PM

Dana, I'm not downing the rappers. I'm coming down on Hollywood for not respecting our films enough to get the BEST actors for the job.

Again, this is not the case with White films. Why should we accept that treatment in Black films.

Posted by: Hashim at March 28, 2006 12:47 PM

Good RapSTAR ACTors..

DMX
2pac (Juice)
Will Smith (ALI & 6 degrees of separation)
Latifah (Chicago)
Mos Def (Something the Lord Made) I heard he gave a stellar performance on stage in New York in a two-man show)
Ice T (New Jack City)
Ludacris (Crash)
IDRIS ELBA..he ain't a rapper but DAMN he is so fine I just had 2 mention him.

Any1 I did not mention, I was not impressed with.

Posted by: DanaJackson at March 28, 2006 12:53 PM

Your point is well taken Hashim.

Do you think this type of opportunity for rappers broadens or improves the "look of hip hop" or it doesn't impact the image of rappers at all?

diddy in monster's ball was like

DanaJackson the name of the movie with Mos Def is "Something the Lord Made" sweetie. He got a few award nominations for it. I also liked him in Brown Sugar. Pak was an incredible and that fake gangsta swagger got him cut down before he could really shine on a Will Smith level. I am still scared of Bishop's crazy behind. I recently read in Vibe that he darn near made that movie a thriller his character was so crazy and I agree 100%. He was an actor before he was a rapper. What a waste.

yeah Bird,
2pac was really ahead of his game but didn't live long enough 2 get his just due on a level similiar 2 will smith.

I think that's why niggas didn't really let him die when he was gone
(i.e.,saying he wasin Cuba with Assata Shakur, faked his murder 2 escape his bid)

It's funny 2 me now but a lot of us were on some dumb elvis shit because we didn't want 2 let him go. ( i had really hoped his death was a sham)

2pac (aside from mos def and latifah) in my humble opinion, remains 1 of the best entertainers 2 have been associated with HIP HOP/RAP on a macroscopic level.

2 pac gets the BLACK Oscar!!!

Posted by: Dana in Jersey at March 28, 2006 1:39 PM

Nahhh..I am gonna have to give the worst to....(een though she is a singer, not a HH emcee, she is os so worthy of this praise) T-boz in Belly..c'mon man..she reeked of no talent...sickening performance....She moved you w/ classic lines like "I mean, you act like we broke! What the fuck? Why don't we just move to Africa?" or we could consider Tyrese's performance in Baby Boy....he could petition for runner up any day....by the way wasn't Baby Boy supposed to be a serious movie..tell me why I can never stop laughin when I see it...I think the movie is terrible...but I actually do watch it from time to time just for the jokes, no bullshit...that shit is almost as funny as Friday to me

Posted by: DanaJackson at March 28, 2006 1:49 PM

Quick question...before you swear that a rapper is a good actor...name one rapper other than will smith, mos def and LL and Luda who have played roles not as thugs who did good jobs??? then u can say if they did good jobs...

oh yeah and leave 2 pac off your response as well...

Posted by: DaStreets at March 28, 2006 1:50 PM

Macroscopic......

Posted by: HDB at March 28, 2006 1:53 PM

Well dang DaStreets the list you provided was long enough, but you did forget cube and ice-t. Cube didn't play a ganster in Barbershop, Anaconda or Friday and I think he is good. DMX played a .com mogul in the movie with Steven Seigal and I thought that was good. Just my two cent. Ice-T now plays a cop on Law and Order and he is good. Bow Wow was outstanding in Roll Bounce in my opinion.

Posted by: Bird at March 28, 2006 2:02 PM

i can't see no rapper pulling off terrance howard caliber acting in hustle&flow but Tupac remember he went to school for it too bad he didn't get a chance to shine they said he begged for that roll in gridlocked because he was gonna try to show he was a real actor cuz he didn't want to be typecast forever being bishop ....shame

Posted by: DEQUES(pronouncedDEXX!) at March 28, 2006 2:31 PM

People are always gonna say rappers can't act because we are used to seeing them making albums and dropping the hottest songs. Film makers put rappers in movies becaause they already have a fanbase. A rapper can't just get a good role, they have to work they up to the best roles. btw, filmakers will always give a real actor a leading role because they are better for the movie.

Posted by: layla at March 28, 2006 2:36 PM

Dawg -- do you realize that Dwayne Martin has been in the game for at least 10 years but probably closer twenty? He is only now able to do his own production and distro, and that's only because he movie game has changed. Used to the MPAA and the SAG controlled everything like a pimp controlled his hoes, only the big houses and the undefrlings could get down. But with everything openining up these days, cheaper ways to produce movies, etc. There is a big surge of independant and small budget films. It's just like the music, you all these people doing big things because it become easier to to take on the big dogs.

Problem is the older dudes, who have the success and money, aren't really getting they hustle on like the younger dudes.

Now, most (and I mean MOST), of these rapper/actors are pitiful. But I can't hate em because they are getting their hustle on. The best way to end competition is to put in that work while others lay back. Will I ever pay to see Busta, Xhibit, DMX, (put any bad rapper/actor name)? NO. I may catch em on a dvd but thats it. Wait...I havent been to the movies in about 5 yrs so forget everything I said.....

Posted by: Lion XL at March 28, 2006 3:08 PM

You guys are forgeting Chill from "Groove B. Chill". He was in "House Party" (the dude that kept bumping into Martin's turntables and he helped take his drunk homey home) before becoming a paraplegic in a motorcycle accident. He's been on various T.V. shows and he is now starring in "Inside Man" as a paralyzed police officer who works in the comand center. He is a rapper who became a pretty good actor in a non- thug role.

most rappers can't act.
most black movies are crap (because off all the rappers in 'em)

Some Black movies that have just actors (with little or no rappers) are alrite, though.

Posted by: Marco at March 28, 2006 3:52 PM

The reality is that HIPHOP generates billions of dollars every year and Hollywood wants a piece of it just like everyone else. Just think back before HIP-HOP got so big. There weren't many black films for these black actors to act in. HIP HOP has made it possible for a lot of Black Actors to get work! I remember there was only Denzel, Snipe and Larry Fishburne getting work, but now you got hundreds upon hundreds of black actors in film. Why did this happen? Because people in HIP HOP have the attitude FUCK YOU I will make my own fucking movie! So I say they better be happy that rappers are making it happen in Hollywoord!

i read an interview where alfre woodard said she and sidney portier can't get a returned phone call about projects they're trying to produce. but rappers can get in touch with no problem. that got to frustrating. these rich rappers should invest in other talented writers, directors, actors and give MGM and em a run for their money it'll only cost them 2 video budgets a piece and a bently and half a maybach

Shitty Cent needs to be barred from movies as well. Ja Rule is a garbage actor. But Will Smith, Queen Latifah, Mos Def, Ice Cube (sometimes), and Ice T are all good actors. Luda is definitely on the come up.

I know how to make songs and I am able to be a voice in the revolution. 2Pac was the voice in the revolution but he didn't have any club bangers like I do. Candy Shop and Disco Inferno got major spins in the club. Big was able to make hit songs but he wasn't a revolutionary. Whatever Puff said, Biggie followed. I'm more of a leader."

Will Smith Was a RAPPER....He made Albums ! that people played ! Respect Dude..

Posted by: mIZE2 at March 29, 2006 2:15 PM

this is never going anywhere actors can complain but reality is this
Rappers = more sales
you'd be brainless not to put a rapper with a platnium rec in your movie
instead of a actor whose trying to make a name for themself.
Plus all the important roles go to professionals anyway. And if the rapper can act that's even more publicity you couldn't get with a no name actor.
there's no point in actor's being upset they have a point but in the end money's the most important factor.
Besides Rappers are starting to make more money than actors so eventually they'll be making and producing movies like Ice Cube and creating more Jobs for struggling black actors.
And Luda can act his ass off
just say law and order and he shocked the hell outa me cause I expected him to suck!Snoop can't act just watch Bones! I wouldn't put Tboz in a High school play after watching belly nor Nas, dog stick to rap! LL aiiight not special just aiight! Ice can act. Will Smith is good he still corney but he's good. Mos has talent! Dmx just plays himself(highly recommend never die alone!, Cube too!, Latifah too!
every movie they just be themselves
Ja doesn't act he has 4 lines in every movie and then he dies! Mannashaay!!! Monicaaaa!!!....ok cut
Andre has talent real talent!
50 don't know, but Hustlers Ambition was a better song than that three 6 mafia jt that won the oscar! If you Stop hating and listen to the lyrics you'll agree. Sorry they still get props but I liked Hustler's Ambition more

how is 50 saying he's better than BIG and PAC as dis?
Hell Jay-z says I the best rapper Dead or Alive? no ones kicking rocks about that!
Can we be alittle more objective
I headz aren't feeling fif and understand why but seriously anyone notice everytime he opens he mouth they always make it seem like he's shitting on people. He said I feel like I'm better than BIG & PAC not fk BIG & PAC damn he even said Puff ruining BIG memory he's not dissing BIG and PAC
When 50 disses someone he comes right out and says I don't like em or fk em
everyone knows who he got beef wit
but seriously lets not jump on the bandwagon everytime someone says some negative about 50!
Side note there's so much wack ish out I don't care whose real and whose not as long as its a good album. Perfect example Lil Wayne's on fire right now and talks more gangsta than 90 percent of the industry. If you think he's real your buggin he's been on Cash Money before he was a teen ager and had base in his voice but he shits on Camron on the song suck it or not! so fk whose real who cares I just want my money's worth!

DanaJackson - Here you go
HERE IS A QUICK LIST JUST OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD (SOMEBODY PLEASE ADD) OF ENTOURAGE MEMBERS/HUSTLERS WHO HAVE STOLEN REAL RAPPERS JOBS:

TONY YAYO
TRILLVILLE
MOST OF THE ST. LUNATICS (NOT ALL)
HALF OF D12
MOST OF DIP SET
YOUNG JEEZY
THE EASTSIDE BOYS
CRUNCHY BLACK (THREE 6)(Paul and Juice are really DJs and producers so they have some real talent)
D4L
DEM FRANCHISE BOYS
TRINA
MISSY (STICK TO SINGING AND WRITING)

So on and so forth... I know y'all can think of people who are talking up real rappers positions. Like I said, it happens way more than rappers stealing acting jobs. Only maybe 3-5 rappers get a job in a real movie per year that would have went to an actor. But bullshit rappers who have no business rapping are probably releasing between 25-50 % of all rap albums that come out right now

50 said that he's better than Pac and B.I.G.?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
LOL.
It's real funny how when these rappers finally get big, then they wanna try to take on everybody including the deceased ones.
Like B.G. had said in his song Roll With Me
"I Ain't Go Lie These New Niggaz Fuckin the Game Up,
They Get Pop and wanna bring a nigga name up."
This nigga said Pac, who is the greatest rapper of all time, didn't had any club bangers? Be for real. I Get Around, Temptations, How Do U Want It, California Love, Toss It Up, all those muthafuckin songs were gettin played at the club big time. This dude don't know what the fuck he talking about just running his mouth like he always do cause he's a fucking big time hater and everybody with real sense knows it. Then this nigga go talk about B.I.G. saying that Puff was behind everything he was rapping about? Man be serous.
This dude 50 ain't nothing but a pop star. On some lyrically shit, Pac and B.I.G. would eat his ass up. Pac and B.I.G. made classics and muthafuckas still bangin the shit outta both of them, especially Pac. 50 ain't even no lyricist and anybody with real sense would tell you the same thing. This dude can't even flow with his mumbling ass. 50 may be more POP than Pac and B.I.G. with his Britney Spears ass. Pac and B.I.G. was and still is for the streets and that's why only street niggaz fucks with Pac and B.I.G.. Pac is the rapper with the most street cred of all time. Half of 50 Cent fans white muthafuckas anyway and he proved that shit when he was having that party over his house on MTV when he was having that Massacre release party, and that Massacre album was fuckin garbage anyway. It's funny how this punk ass nigga came in the game on some hardcore shit and then when this dude got his fame, he got big headed and think he got the right to diss anybody and then he start making all these soft ass songs singing like a bitch which he was accussing Ja Rule of doing and his fake ass turn around and doing the same singing shit. The nigga wasn't that tight from jump. He's a fucking fake bitch. 50 not even the best nigga in G-Unot, which is Young Buck and Lloyd Banks better than 50.
Here's all the niggaz that 50 been hating on since he's been in the game.
Ja Rule and the entire Murder Inc staff
Jay-Z
Nas
Jadakiss and the rest of the D-Block
Fat Joe
Kanye West
The Down South
The Game
Lil Kim
R.Kelly
Lauryn Hill
D Angelo
and he was hatin on some more niggaz.
and now he hating on Pac and B.I.G.? Man, the shit never stops. This dude is a jealous hating snitch ass bitch.
The nigga sho wasn't stupid enough to diss Z-Ro, The Diplomats, nor Scarface, who all exposed the fuck outta him for the fake that he is.

Pac and B.I.G. are fucking legends. Pac is the Greatest Rapper of all time hands down. B.I.G. comes third because Scarface is second. There's so many rappers besides Pac and B.I.G. that are better than this weak ass 50 Cent dude. I can name a few more deceased rappers that are better than 50 such as Soulja Slim, Camoflauge, Fat Pat from the Screwed Up Click, just to name a few.

Niggaz need to stop fucking with 50. 50 ain't nothing but a hating ass bitch. 50 also starting to loose fans too because of that hating shit he be on. Let those white muthafuckas deal with his hating ass. 50 would never get respect nor props from me, never.

Pac is The Greatest Rapper Of All Time Hands Down.
50 Cent is the Greatest Hateing Bitch Of All Time Hands Down.

MIKE B keeping this shit real for the real.

Posted by: MIKE B at March 30, 2006 10:22 PM

man you hate 50!

so back to rappers vs actors.
without a doubt ice cube and will smith top of the list because they are good enough to have their own movies, and people chase them for there own movie roles, some rappers get parts because of the name,i mean dont get me wrong i been playing snoop's music since doggystyle, lol but his acting skill is -minus %percent range.he is awful to watch,it gives me a headache.
i mean LL is good but he aint that good otherwise he would get his own movie.
some dude on here got ice-t as number 1,lol i wonder who he's fav rapper is,lol number 1...do me a favor.

now alot of people hating on 50 pence but you got to say the dude got his own movie,he didnt even start off with small parts and weather you didnt like the story line or not and people saying the film was rubbish and shit like that, i didnt hear many people say his acting was bad, thats because his acting was fucking good. this is about acting skills and everybody saying "oh.....his cd was crap" dick heads!!!!
he must have done something right if he got a big role in this new film they talking about, but now somebody going to hate on that aswel because his "cd was crap" or "he got to much beef" "he said he better than b.i.g and 2pac".............so what everbody else they say "oh ice cube good or ll good" or "ice cube bad or ll bad" whateva but when it come to 50pence they say "his new album rubbish or he beef too much"
ok..............so ice cube shit cause his last cd was shit,x to the z shit because his cd had only one good track, will smith shit because he is the worst kind of bubble gum rap around,QUEEN L because i dont think she ever been a good rapper,LL because he use's his body to sell songs nowdays. i mean its all bullshit, tell it like it is and say 50 is a good fucking actor.......end of.
but i would agree and say he prob needs to do a few more movies before you can call him a will smith,or ice cube.

Posted by: justforfun21 at March 31, 2006 4:04 AM

Somebody mentioned DMX earlier as on of the best rapper/actors..X is good but to me a lot of his acting roles seem too similar to his rap persona.

Posted by: Joe Schmoe at March 31, 2006 12:17 PM

Mad 50 hate
yall act like he did something to you personally
yall sticking up for Game like he putting money in yall pocket.
Calling him a bitch and punk
he don't even know you exist!
Yall acting like he boned your girl
and fk'd up your fit!
I like 50 don't feel everything he says or does but he ain't said nothing bout me so I don't care. So he said fk Ja
so he said fk Game and Jada and Fat Joe
and Joe Budden and Kanye and everyone in the industry sooo
I don't know dem clowns they ain't putting money in my pocket In fact I putting money in theirs. so he can say what he wants yall take this ish to personal smoke some weed get some psy and relax. Yall can diss him all you want but he still doesn't know you exist!
As far as being better than Big and Pac
seriously when they were alive no one was calling them the greatest of all time. BIG doesn't have enough material to be considered honestly. I can make a bigger Case for Pun than B.I.G. can Pun has waaay more material! Don't get me wrong B.I.G. was nice but his greatness is exaggerated! and so is Pac yall talk like PAC was a MC. Pac is probably the most influential but come on he wasn't no Emcee. There's was no complexity in his verses. Yall act like Pac could win a freestyle battle. I feel Pac music but he wasn't no damn MC.
and 50 saying he's better depends on what your talking about. Has he had more success Yes! won more awards and done more in a shorter period of time than anyone in rap history
yes!is he a better Musician overall No
but he does I one thing over the entire music industry except maybe Jay-z
and that is the ability to make complete songs. Yall think being nice is everything, its not! Yall can hate 50 till the cows come home but face kids that nga knows how to make songs good hooks he's not going anywhere and your favorite MC's would sell more records if they had that talent!
There's no point being upset about 50 skills he's a rapper not a hip-hop artist. 50 doesn't care about being the nicest MC he cares about hit records and based on that they only one fking with him is Jay and he's on pace to murk everything Jay-z achieved. And don't get Jay twisted either he got skills but he makes hit records he don't care about being the nicest Mc either remember Initially Reasonable doubt didn't sell! think about it

Posted by: Banga! at March 31, 2006 3:36 PM

50 deserved an Oscar for his role, he was better than Denzel in training day and Russell Crowe in Gladiator.

Posted by: Shakeem at April 2, 2006 3:50 AM

The problem is how many black guys really want to go to acting school. Not the average guy even if he can be very convincing. Actors are some of the fakest people you'll meet. How many black guys want to be catogorized with that. Then they make you conform to a safer look or maybe you won't be black enough.
A rapper doesn't have to go through that shit with schools, and agents and characterization.
You have to be in a hood movie or a comedy or be one of the first killed off. What kind of career is that. Terrance Howard was is movies for years. Everybody knew his face but he was a nobody until he walked the red carpet with Will Smith? Say word! How many recognizible black actors since the 70s are nobody people with unknown names. The only male sex symbol they allow are too stuck up or old ass Denzel, never a handsome regular down to earth black guy.
Rappers are faces that the white media can sell. It's not a good look.

ACTORS HAVE ALL THE CREDIBILITY SIMPLY BECAUSE..............................................................................................................RAPPERS ARE NOTHING BUT LYING ASS FAKE FRAUDULENT ACTORS ANYWAY. AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO SEEMS TO NOTICE THAT THESE SO CALLED "GANGSTA" RAPPERS NEVER GET INTO REAL TROUBLE/DRAMA UNTIL THEY SIGN A DEAL OR RIGHT B4 THEIR ALBUM DROPS! RAPPERS = ACTORS! Everybody needs to stick to they day job! Some of these cats ain't even all that good of a rapper, let alone a good actor. Cube is decent if he's pretty much playing himself. Same for Will Smith who is only a little better. Ice-T is great in his role as a detective. Pac absolutely killed in Juice. Mos-Def is the only legitimate actor that would be worthy of recognition. The rest need to pump they brakes a little!

Posted by: 313rd at April 12, 2006 11:56 AM

If you think about rappers are actors. If you listen to what these kats be talking about in there songs, you got to wonder how the hell they still walking around free, look at the image most of these niggas try to portray. Come on now. I agree with 50 cent on one thing 90% of these rappers or liars. (Let's not foget the meaning of entertainment).
