Music writer Steve Jones of USA Today plays catch up on the Houston Hip-Hop story. All the usual suspects get name checked- Mike Jones, Paul Wall & Chamillionaire, Slim Thug, Lil Flip, Bun B, Michael Watts, etc. The srewed and chopped sound gets it's own customary sidbar, with DJ Screw's getting props for that indie cred from discerning readers.
Actually, the whole story seems cribbed from a similiar NY Times story ealier this year. Or was it the feature MTV did on Houston? Or the one from the Village Voice?
The Knight-Ridder papers recently published a story on the Houston rap scene.

I agree that Houston is doing its thing, as a matter of fact Houston has been doing its thing for a decade or so. I can definately see the influence that Houston's rap scene has on Dallas. Alot of these rappers are trying to sound like niggas from Houston. To tell youthe truth, I wished they would stop it and have their own idenitity. I know one thing, this cat name F.E.V. out of Houston is blowing up. He has real through shit! Peeps are really sleeping on him.

Yeah my cousin lives in houston and work in the music business down there he told me in texas period their artist sell 500,000 they aupport their artist. I Went through Houston this past summer and I can't lie I wouldn't mind living there not just because I'm a producer and feel I can add some more flavor to their scene but I like the city the people are real friendly and the ladies are cool and got back for days.
