Summer Jam is the biggest media event in hip-hop. Yeah, the biggest. If you want to do something in rap music and have it be remembered for years, then do it on that Summer Jam stage (word to Jay-Z and his "Takeover" performance in 2003).
Not only is the event hosted by New York's most popular urban radio station and will be on nationwide cable, but the press comes out in full force, ready to write about any excitement that pops off. I wasn't even in the press section, yet to the left of me was a middle age White reporter from a Long Island paper, and on the right was Jon Caramanica (wait, maybe that was the press section). In the underground, Summer Jam gets spread on mixtapes, bootleg videos, and through thousands of fan photos that get snapped. Not to mention all the stories that get shared with friends and co-workers afterwards.
This morning my roommate asked me how the concert went. Of cource I told him about Jay-Z's surprise performance and Game resparking his beef with G-Unit. But the biggest impression left on me was the crowd's excited response to Daddy Yankee and Pitbull (Reggaeton is here to stay, ya'll) plus how much the young women loved singing the x-rated chorus to that Ying Yang Twins "Whisper Song" (which other women rightly find offensive).
I'm not of big fan of any of their music, but the crowd at Summer Jam opened my eyes a bit. Those artists took advantage of their moment to shine and made a lasting impression on me. Summer Jam does it again.

I liked the performance except Ciara and Amerie, they were not energetic. Lil John kick some ass, Jay was hova, Kayne and the crew was nice, the Game was fucking funny.

This was by far one of the better SummerJams with consistently good performances throughout. The highlight of the evening was Kanye bringing out Jay-Z. I'm a big Jay-Z fan, but I've never heard a SummerJam or (any other concert) that loud in all my life and I missed only two SummerJams. The only moments that were louder was Biggie at Summerjam II, DMX in the late '90s and Jay-Z bringing out Michael Jackson in 2001 (from what i hear...I missed that one for my wedding). Cam'ron and DipSet killed it...they opened a lot eyes to folks who weren't feeling them before. They have hits for days and they had to cut them off before they could even finish all of their hot songs from the last few years. D-Block ripped it, the only bad thing is they did only LOX and D-Block songs and none of Jada's individual songs, but it still was hot. the other bad thing is that they cut him off as he was going to end up with his 50 cent diss song. I'm not feeling %0 lately. Even the "worst" acts of the night were still good. Ciara and Amerie did their hits and Ciara can dance her ass off. Ludacris was okay, he did his songs, but he was the least exciting. What can you say about Lil Jon. He got the crowd crunk. The highlight was bringing out Ice Cube for their song they have together and he did "Check Yo-self". That was straight Gangsta. Before Kanye brought out 50, he brought out Cam'ron to do "Down and Out" which he produced because they cut Dip-Set's performance short due to time. He did two of his own songs then brought out Common, all before he brought out Jay-Z who owns NY. 50,000 people were chanting "HOVA" for 5 minutes straight as he posed for the audience. He did "PSA" and "Encore" then left. After that the crowd was flat for the GAME. The GAME ended any semblance of a truce by going into multiple verbal assaults on 50, Lloyd, Yayo, and Young Buck and explaining how G-Unit threw him out and he is not the Bad guy. While half the crowd was booing him, others was feeling what he is saying because 50 is really acting like bitch in my point of view. There are too many things he did and said against G-Unit for me to write, but they brought mascot rats representing G-Unit that they beat up. He threw his G-Unit chain into the audience, and started a G-uNoT chant. Then the crowd was also flat for Snoop. He did put on a good performance and brought out Cassidy and Swizz Beats for "I'm a hustla". Once again, Production cut him off due to time before he could do "Drop it Like its Hot". I don't know what's up with that. In any case, This was clearly one of the better Summerjams in recent memory for me. The right blend of controversy and good performances and tons of guest appearances that I didn't even mention.
i heard that the performances and guest appearances was off the chain, but The Game fuck it all up a, lil' bit by dissing the King of NY 50 cent, cus 50 is blowing up real big with all the different shit he coming out with and the selling all them fucking albums. but the shit that was really of the wall was the Dip-Set performaances and Hova appearances.....Dip-Set Bitch!
Just for clarification, Game didn't rekindle his beef with G-Unit, 50 was takin shots at Game in a couple magazines, so he just responded to it.

I'm all the way over here in tx reading about what happened at Summer Jam. I wish I was home to hear what the streets are really saying. Everyone seems to say something about this whole Game vs. G-Unit. Say what you want about 50 gettin his head on swole, if you listened to Game's album all his hits had 'Fiddy's influences on them. Even the songs he performed at Summer Jam. This whole beef thing is all due to ingratitude. If someone does something for you makes you a success, why would you want to turn on him? Yet since the rap world is filled with ego, this is the way it has come to be. They same goes for Chingy. He was a nobody before DTP, now look at him. Game has some talent, I won't deny him that (besides all the name drops), but how many beefs has he started and then apologized later behind closed doors.
