Kanye says he wants to make a video for each song on his new album, "Late Registration". How does he plan to pay for all those mini-flicks? Kanye told Free and AJ on 106th and Park that some rappers like to buy cars, but he'd rather spend his money on music videos. Homeboy made 7 for his last album, so I don't doubt his wish to top that this time.
Is this an ego driven video fetish or savvy marketing move? As usual for the walking contridiction Kanye, it's a bit of both.
Of course he likes to see his own image appear on MTV 6 times a day, but then again so will his fans. A music video connects us to our favorite artists more than a print interview, more than a website, even more than the actual song itself. And for those not yet up on an artist, the video is the best peice of promotion that can be created. I'd still be in the dark about Mike Jones if Still Tippin' hadn't mad it into BET's ultra-rotation.
So shoot on, Kanye. And props to you for controlling your own media image through music videos.

In the end despite what Kanye "wants" to do, it all comes down to money. Will Colombia flip the bill to produce 12 videos? I think not, Kanye may have to come out the pocket for them if he's serious about doing that. However with urban marketing the way it is now -Kanye can make all the videos for all his tracks on "Late Registration" and then re-release the CD with a DVD of all the videos.
