ATL - Don't Call it a Comeback

Atlanta hip-hop has a bright future, has dominated rap for the past few years, and has a long and important history. Don't believe? Peep SOHH's special feature, "HotLanta: The Music & The Message"

So why are we still sleeping on the ATL? Blame it on the media!

It's still easier for an up-and-comer from New York to break into The Source than an Atlanta emcee with the same amount of hype and potential behind him. With NY being the media capital of the universe, of course hip-hop coverage centers around the oversaturated local NY scene.

Expect that to change quickly if southern mags like Jeremy Miller's "Down" succeeds.

Also, peep SOHH's new Atlanta Blog if you can't wait for the revolution.

WHO CARES!! WHAT A WASTE I DIDN'T EVEN READ THIS.

I agree and disagree to an extent. I mean the Ying Yang Twins whispered on a whole track and all of America loves it. I think your style of music determines how far you go in your region. When you get known for one type of music (Mainly Crunk and Club), it's hard to come up if you're one of the more lyrical emcees like a T.I or Ludacris. And it's vice versca in the case of New York. Artists get enclosed by the type of music there region is known for. I figure there's some ill rapper in St. Louis who is bananas, but because maybe St. Louis is known for producing acts like Nelly, Chingy, and J-Kwon it would be harder for that rapper to blow (and that's not a knock on the rappers I mentioned).

The Brat is the best as far as flowing and skills, but i think the record companies don't respect her because they consider her style old school sort of how the view mc lyte

tha atl is blowin up so why they complainin mann the whole dirty south got there recognition and it will go away and soon i predict the mid-west will blow up then out of the states and of to the tdot (toronto Can) they doin big in the rap scene

before anybody starts it up, let me say that hot 97 & power 105 play more than enough of the southern hip-hop more than ever, period. The southe NEVER got play until niggas got hypnotized by the size of your pocket vs real skills. Every southern cat seems to come from the pimping vein where they 'spit game' they dont rap. Outta towners always have this anal vision about new yorkers like your hated automatically or some shit, like if i came to your town niggas wouldnt hate cause im from NYC. thats just niggas being niggas if you ask me,no matter wher you from. but southern niggas need to shut the fuck up with the crying already, you got the charts right now, stop acting like NYC owes you a foot kissing or something. Niggas always on that fuck NY this in that via magazine, but come to NY copping plees for some love on the radio. Niggas be killin me....

Everyone's dickclogging on ATL now, but lets wait 5 more years and people are going to be saying, "WHO THE FUCK IS ATL"? It does not impress me, It's like a state to state bandwagon going on. One day it's ATL, then it's TEXAS, then it's West Coast, then It's MIA. But remember people, it will always by NEW YORK, the headquarters of HIP-HOP

PEACE

Now there is the internet. And I really appreciate people like you who take their chance in such an excellent way to give an impression on certain topics. Thanks for having me here.
