BET Cancels News to Make Room for Reality Show
Say it ain't so BET! Tell us it's a bad rumor that you're set to cancel your Nightly News program, replaceing it with Damon Dash's reality show!
For the last few years their news program used to make me feel better about watching Uncut afterwards. Now what will I do? I guess stay up until Inspiration comes on.
Oh yeah, please don't blame this on the absense of BET's founder, and former owner Bob Johnson. He's still there. He still has sway in these decisions.
And yeah, sorry for all the Dame Dash related news. He's everywhere this week.

This is straight bullsh*t. Viacom does it again. Thanks, Bob Johnson. To be placed on the same trash bin as Teen Summit, The Tavis Smiley Show, that political roundtable the had on Saturday mornings and all the other sorry attempts to program anything that really matters to the community.
Now Jacque Reid can do what she was really meant to do, Host BET.com. Straight foulness.

One again we as a people do not see what is right. Always after the dollar no matter what. the news show was a classy show of integrity, that we can look at the mirror and tell what is and isnt there. It said we are an honest people who care about the happenings in our community and world.
But NOOOOOOOOOOO, a stupid reality show which is probably going to further immortalize bling, the dollar, and big bootie women.
We need to think BET!!! What are we doing?

I agree with everything was written above, but let me wear another hat for a second. Why should BET be any different then any other Network when it come to program schedule. Bottomline T.V is about rating which lead to money. Isn't that what a business is all about,"Making Money". If the ratings are not high for a certain programs, advertiser will not advertise around that program. This will lead to a decrease in profit. Which will anger 100% of the companies share holders. Once again I ask why should BET be any different then any other Network. Other networks do what ever it take to increase rating to increase profit. Why shouldn't they give the majority of the viewers what they want. More ass, cash and laughs! Why is it that we place a social burnt of responsibility on Black Entertainment Television and we don't place the same on other networks? If we didn't watch the bling, ass, and comedy shows then the rating would drop and they would be forced to drop the program. Obviously many enjoy watching the ass shaking videos. The shows we hate so much have very high rating and if you haven't notice all of the major company advertise around those shows. Fords, Coke/sprite, Nike,......etc. Okay now back to the regular scheduled program.
"Money moves everything around me "CREAM" get the money dolla dolla bill yall"!

With a little thought I realize that the show is pretty irrelevant. I'm getting my news online. Still, what abotu folks that aren't online. The black newspapers have shrivelled up to shells of their former selves. Jet Magazine? Oh boy. I only pick that up in the barbershop. What else is there in print and TV?

King Kong:
networks have traditionally shown news even when it costs them money. For example, when a big story breaks out, networks will cover it for hours, without commercials. They lose money, but they do it because it is a part of their social responsibility

SOHH:
I would have to respectfully disagree with you. I don't think they go to breaking news to show a since of social responsibility, but more so to keep their viewing audience tuned in to their station or program. If you were to watch a certain networks program on a regular bases and found yourself missing breaking news you would more then likely stop watching. Why? Because you would feel like you are missing something. Yeah the networks looses money in the short run, but they gain more by keeping a loyal viewer for years and years. Espn got me! Trust me the bottomline is the only thing on these networks mind when doing anything with airing programs

I agree 100% with Tony black people always suggest that we do the right thing but when we do the right thing we get cancled....Black people pay attention...when the ratings go down the shows gets cancled...because if black owners don't exploit their own kind another kind of life will

I really don't understand BET. They are just as bad as Hot97. You would think that being basically the ONLY "black-owned" network, they would show a little more professionalism, but all you see on that channel is music video and stupid shit like College Hill. You hardly even seen anything to uplift black minds on there....just rap shit and ass shaking (nuthin' wrong with dat now and then, but damn all day!?!?) they really need to start showing some education programs and more political viewpoints shows instead of mindless shit all time....I mean damn mix it up or something!!!!
This is all we need...another fucken reality show...what happened to "good" television....all this reality shit is driving me nuts....that's the reason to what TV..to escape reality for while, not see the shit after a hard day's work. WAKE THE FUCK UP BET!!!!...it really is staring to become the house-negro channel, and that's putting it nicely!

I am not a thug or a gansta or any of them bullshit titles you hype yourself up with! I am just a str8-up up and down grown ass man! You don't know me homie and you don't want to know me! By the way real O.Gz, Thugz, Gansta don't talk like they supa tough! They just handle they business! So next time if you don't have anything worth saying "SHUT THE FUCK UP" Check Game!

I hear and feel what yall are saying, but lets be real about this. BET use to have all of the programs mentioned above, but no one was watching them. I remember a show they had about investments and personal finance. No one was watching so they cancelled the show. They use to have a political round table show I think on Saturday and Sunday morning. No one was watching so they cancelled the show. I agree that BET needs more programs with more substance, but the fact is BET is a business. If you want to exist in the business world you got to make money. The only way they make money is by providing shows with high rating which will attract cooperate sponsors. Not saying its right or wrong....just being real and stating the facts.

Why couldn't they take off comic view instead? Richard Pryor did that "White people do this, Black People DO THIS!!" shit better thirty years ago.

I think it should be obvious by now that BET is not trying to better it's programming but jump on the MTV bandwagon in order to compete. I can believe they would suggest canceling Nightly News instead of canceling BET Style which has the most boring reporting ever! I would actually like to see the Dash reality show-- it would be more entertaining than College Hill and the FATTY KOO show (aka Making the Band). But the news that reports issues in our community is not important to everyone--- even Bob Johnson.
