Latin Going Platinum: Daddy Yankee

I know I’m ODing a bit with the Daddy Yankee news but duke is Candle Guy right now cuz he’s on fire. I caught up with him again to see what’s up with his new album, El Cartel: The Big Boss. If it’s anything like that ear crack of “Impacto” he’s got another banger on his hands.

Daddy Yankee, "Jimmy [Iovine] showed me respect"

So you say Interscope is a monopoly. Yes, sure but isn’t everything else in this country. Believe it’s even worse in outside the U.S. So when Daddy Yankee signed with Fiddy’s home it came to no surprise. No worries either. DY went platinum before he even signed with Interscope. He’s just a smart businessman. You need to hook up with the only ones selling to, well, sell. Check what DY told me about his relationship, so far, with the gargantuan record label.

Fergie Shakes It For Daddy Yankee

Peep the new Daddy Yankee video for “Impacto (Remix)” featuring Ms. Buttahface Fergie. The song is catchy and I think I’ve figured how Yankee has so much success. Duke names his song titles so that non-Latinos can say it with ease. “Gasolina,” “Rompe,” “Impacto,” good pattern. Anyway check the voice-synthesized glory that is “Impacto.”

Daddy Yankee is back. Its official, he dropped his Scott Storch-produced single "Impacto." Check the link below and peep the remix for ya self. Considering that Zion beat him by releasing his ear crack "The Way She Moves" featuring Akon (DY also got an Akon cut) first, El Cangri gotta bring that new heat. Just gimme Yankee and Jim Jones "Ballin'" reggaeton style and we good.

Daddy Yankee, A GIANT Among Reggaetoneros

Daddy Yankee, possibly the only reggaeton cat suburbanites know by name, got a dope write-up in GIANT Magazine’s April/May issue (Eve‘s on the cover). The piece written by superb scribe and one of Goya’s homegirls, Celia San Miguel, goes in-depth on El Cangri’s new album, his background and other interesting tidbits. Below are some excerpts.

Scott Storch Disses Timbo But Loves Daddy Yankee

Daddy Yankee is taking is time putting his follow-up out. First it was February now it’s late May, which actually makes sense since reggaeton is better suited for the hot weatherâ€"asses tend to shake more in the summer.

Daddy Yankee Beatsmith Says No Beef w/ Luny Tunes

They all have’em but they don’t want to admit them. Ghost producers. Dr. Dre had Scott Storch, Pharrell has Chad Hugo, Timbo had Danja and Diddy has well everyone. It’s no different in reggaeton. The genre’s biggest hitmakers Luny Tunes had Nely. Tired of playing the backdrop Nely left the Dominican duo last year to start his own imprint, Artillery Records. I mean duke is responsible for monster hits like Daddy Yankee’s “Gangsta Zone,” Wisin Y Yandel’s “Rakata,” and R. Kelly’s “Burn It Up”
