Joell Ortiz Goes XXL, Scratch Mag Esta Dead

By now you’ve seen the group shot of the next XXL cover. I’m liking the whole “Leaders of the New School” idea which is what happens when they ain’t ish going on. But again with all the talented Latino MCs in the game right now only one got to shine on the cover. Joell Ortiz. It was probably the Dr. Dre factor that got him in. Still with Dre and all JO landed on the second page of the fold-out cover.

But where’s Term? Omar Cruz? Even Tru Life? Dude’s got beef and that’s what rap mags love: carne. Alas Latinos are still getting to “B-side treatment” (word to Aqua). You tellin’ me Lil Boosie or Gorilla Zoe is better than Term? F**k outta here with that noise. Hopefully he'll be on the "10 MCs who missed the cut."

In other Harris pub news I heard through my peeps that Scratch Magazine is dead. Its next issue will be its last. Before you get on me sayin, “this ain’t no Latin hip-hop news,” I’ll say F it; it still affects Goya’s heart. I loved that magazine since it dropped. My best wishes to the staff (old and new) and RIP Scratch (2004-2007).

  Omar should be on that cover.

  Crooked I. is awesome though, and so is Joell. But i have to admit, i still haven't seen any lyricism that mirrors 'modern day slavery' from his recent verses.

  And Goya, I know Tru has like 4 good songs, but dude sold like 1750 mixtape copies. He is good, but has to work on getting on a better label.

• Yeah, I agree yatusabes. It's a damn shame when Boosie on the cover of a once legitimate rap mag. But JO deserves to be on there though, he's a real MC. Tru's pretty good, but I think the label don't wanna market him cuz Def Jam's all pop music right now. He def need to jump ship.

• Let's not forget Sick Jacken. He even got his own record label through Universal. How many other Latino MC can say that? I'm going to keep supporting this cat until SOMEBODY pays the fuck attention. Out of all the Latino MCs mentioned in this blog, Jacken still has the longest and best dicography. Besides being good at talking shit, having a mixtape and one album, what can you say about these other dudes?

• Crooked I and Lupe Fiasco are easily the best mcs on that cover. Props to Joell for making that cover.

  Termanology, Ya Boy, and Omar Cruz deserved to make that cover instead of Papoose, Gorilla Zoe, and Rich Boy.
