Shakira is officially immortal. Last week, the pint-sized pop singer was honored with a six-ton, 15-foot statue of herself in her native Barranquilla, Colombia.

She was in town on her Oral Fixation Tour. The proceeds of her Barranquilla show will go towards building a bilingual (English/Spanish) arts school for 1,800 children affected by the country’s civil war. When it opens its doors in 2008, it will become the sixth school the colombiana star has funded. It’s one of the many fundraising concerts Shak puts on to support her philanthropic foundation, Pies Descalzos. The statue was created and donated by a German fan.

“Barranquilla is the big breast that fed and nurtured me as a human being, a woman, and an artist,†she said to a sea of reporters. Huh? Well I said she was a great gal but she sure has some weird ass quotes. This week the hip-shaking queen was performing in Chile.
While we’re talking about our Colombian peeps, Bogotá was recently named best city in the world by the Venice Architecture Exhibit. Rising above cities like NY, Paris and Toyko, Bogotá was picked because of its modernity and old-school history. Big ups to all the rolas and rolos out there.
