I Guess Hip-Hop Isn't Dead

Posted on October 2, 2008 1:11 PM

I am not gonna lie to you. I think the current state of rap music is pretty bad. And I don't think that way because I don't like the current crop of spitters. I got a lot of respect for Weezy, Jeezy, TI and Game. I even sort of like Boosie.

But the game is missing that semi-conscious political hero. I mean, folks like Immortal Technique and dead prez are cool, but they don't nearly have the same gangsta swagga as a young O'shea Jackson. I mean, no disrespect to M1 and them, but they just have never been able to really touch the hood in the same way that Cube did.

But just when I think that I have had enough of rap music, Davey D reminds me that there is still good hip-hop out there. Check his list of the games top 23 hip-hop songs. I don't think all of 'em are super political, but a lot of them are.
