Obama economic policies are pretty wack for the most part and will just make shit worst. If he had just said I will reverse the top two Bush tax rates and raise the capital gains tax back to 20% he would have been better off. I knew this shit when he was giving his speech. - Bush was the first one to push ethanol nationally in his State of the Union speech and everybody backed it because they didn't want to be accused of "not going green". Nobody at that point looked at the long term food production cost effect so how are you blaming that on Obama?

- Inflation didn't start skyrocketed as it is now until the deregulation of the banking industry leading to all these forclosures, leading to the Fed to drop the key interest rate leading to...you guess it, skyrocketing inflation. Depending on what taxes do go up (remember, gov taxes help pay for improving infrastructure, or do you like having cities fall apart?) and our economy starts the stabilize, the the Fed can raise the key interest rate which, you guess it, slows inflation. Get off your talking points and think.

- Obama taxes oil companies, that may lead to slightly higher prices, but with a $1000 tax break, those slightly higher prices would be more manageable.

- Obama will revisit trade agreements so that worker safety comes first and a stricter review on what's coming in the country. I guess you want your kids sucking on lead painted elmo toys?

- I don't know why you like drilling as a stop gap when EVERYBODY in the know says it will take 10 years to see results AND it won't put a dent in prices in those 10 years. Remember any oil we find goes on the world market. Did you read Obama's plan on selling a fraction of our reserves to bring money back into the US and lowering gas prices? I suggest you look it up.

- As far as electric cars, Obama's said that he'll give a tax break to people who own them. So why would I care if I have to recharge every so often if it means more money in my pocket?

@fyreblazer, Obama hasn't really detailed his "windfall profit tax" on the oil companies. Windfall taxes never work though and have failed numerous times. General they work like this the government says if you make over 100,000 for example we are going to tax the majority of your profits away over that amount. So what would you do if the government was going tax away the majority of every dollar over 100,000. You probably wouldn't try to hard to make over 100,000. That's exactly what the oil companies are going to do is reduce production and since US oil companies are the only ones that pay the tax we will just end up buying more oil from foreign companies and that puts them in a position to come an buy American oil companies. Prices will not come down and it might even cause a shortage. It's a bullshit policy.

Also 20% was the top capital gains rate from 1997 to 2003 and it's 15% now and Obama want to put it back to 20% which I agree with because it not going to really impact anything.

@Mr Reality, As far as what you said about oil man, you don't take account of growth in other countries that use oil. China and India will continue to grow and use more oil. Oil is a world commodity. I'm not against drilling but chances are by the time its gets going the world will be consuming that gain in oil and then some.

The best way to lower gas prices short term is strength the dollar. The best way to do that is reduce all that spending on the Iraq war and try to get the budget back in line and that will require some tax increases. Oil prices have fell the last couple of days because European economies are looking like they are going into recession. So the dollar is strenghing against the Euro.
