Like I said a couple of days ago, everyone has an opinion about this year's election.  This time it's Chris Lighty.  Apparently, 50 Cent's suit is an expert about politics because he's got a post on The Huffington Post.

I mean, props to Lighty for having an opinion. But is this dude really qualified to give Obama advice? At one point in this long ass post Lighty even tells Obama not to address rappers:

"Don't lower yourself to speak to rappers! Just because you are African-American, don't allow the press to make you step down from the plate of being one of the most powerful men in the world to address a comment from a rapper, no matter how great he or she is."

Huh? WTF?  I mean, I can sort of see where he is going, but come on, some of these rappers have a lot of potential influence. Of course, he prolly shouldn't address Lil Boosie or Soulja Boy, but what about Jay Z, Ice Cube or Ludacris. They got a whole lot of juice.  I actually think Obama knows the importance of Hip-Hop and is actually playing his hand the right way when it comes to the culture.

And I know that most MCs prolly never vote and don't really use their influence the right way, but what if they did? What if they all of a sudden got a little more political? You mean to tell me that Obama shouldn't address a dude just because he raps? Seems to me like Lighty is under valuing the power that the culture still has on young voters.

I can truly understand where he is coming from but like you stated, rappers and hip hop for that matter has a lot of influence. 60 to 70% of rap/hip-hop sales come from cultures other than black or brown. He should address the ones that have major influence. Ludacris's ode to Barak was a little fishy in the beginning of the rap but if you continue to listen, he makes a lot of sense and is right. Everyone just wanted to play the part about him asking for a favor if he (Luda) was to get locked up, they never played the rest of it. And we all know Barak aint distance himself from no Luda, he still listens to him on his ipod and probably be talking to him on the celly every now and then. It seems like just because we have a black pres candidate, that hip hop and rap has come to the front row of things. How quintessential. People just need to know who they are voting for and why and don't let no one steer you away from what you want.

He's right, niggers should not be addressed, they have no importance in the world except lyrical genocide.

Biko says, "but what about Jay Z, Ice Cube or Ludacris. They got a whole lot of juice. I actually think Obama knows the importance of Hip-Hop and is actually playing his hand the right way when it comes to the culture."

No disrespect. But, you liberals kill me with all of your celebrity worship. Just because niggas who can sing and tap dance give out a couple of turkies on Thanksgiving and Christmas doesn't mean that they have "juice." A celebrity is the LAST person I'll get my political advice from.

Like the GREAT Doug E Fresh penned long ago, "And as the crowd started breakin, I didn't reply. Because the only stars I know is in the sky." You liberal NIGGAZ need to pay attention to shit like that. Keep your feet on the ground and stop being misguided by your beloved celebrities.

very true line. celebrity worship is a bunch of shit. a lot of people get into that. i'd be interested to hear some of them speak, but definitely filter out some. I'm for Obama, but so much needs to change that no one who would be elected by the masses could have time to handle it, though I think he's the best candidate. It seems like we need something like 10 different presidents to handle different shit, separately.

it would be something to watch if these rich rappers would announce who they vote for. if they all told the truth some people might be really surprised. i'd say that fool 50 cent will vote for mccain, no play. it would be even better if they said WHY they would do it. do we have heroes anymore, like real ones? these rappers need to step up and stop just talking bricks

kill that n-word usage

oh yeah, i said 50 cent would vote for mccain cause he has around 400 mil

I agree with you on this one killa mil...I"ll never forget minister farrakhan's words at the very first hip hop summit in "01 in nyc..."one of your songs can do more than a thousand of my speeches" so is the minister star struck?

If lil Weezy can sell a mil in a week how many 18 year olds can he influence to vote????

Don't take it for granted young grass-hip-hoppers!

I fully agree w/ Chris... there's little upside and a too much downside to associating or even acknowledging rappers. Obama just lowers his brand anytime he mentions one of these fools.

RAPPERS CAN NEVER BENEFIT OR INFLUENCE THE ELECTION IN A GOOD WAY THE MORE RAPPERS TALK AND GIVE SUPPORT THE LESS WHITE SUPPORT HE LOSES COMMON SENSE ICE CUBE LUDACRIS OR WHOEVER DOES NOT EQUAL GOOD AS FAR AS POLITICS IS CONCERNED.

jayz, ludacris have a whole lot of juice?

are you serious?

we talking about the fuckin president of the USA and you saying he should listen to the likes of jayz?! i couldnt care less if jayz is a hiphop great. this celebrity worship is gettin out of hand man. i mean, why the fuck should the president listen to fukin rappers, just cos they black? he's black so he should be associated with hiphop? im black but believe me i distance myself from hiphop cos hiphop dont got no class anymore. look at lil wayne, souljah boy, rick ross. like it or not these are the ones 'representing' hiphop RIGHT NOW. jayz 50 are grown men in their late 30s but listen to what they still talk about. rappers will say anything to sell more, they occasionally say something real but doesnt EVERY other person on this green earth say something real from time to time.? why should it be special when a rapper does? i agree with this dude 100%, Prez. Obama should NOT address rappers. hiphop is jus a fukin music genre, it DOES NOT represent AFRICAN-AMERICAN people, it just so happens the majority of rappers are african-american.

One thing ALL of you need to understand is this: The media controls your opinions, way of thinking and the path in which someone bases their decisions (voting). I am so tired people shitting on Barak because of what they hear in t.v. Stop basing what someone is reporting on how you make your decisions. The media is 5% right, 5% truth & 90% bullshit. Just like there are people who still think that Barak is Muslim. There are people who don't think that those are his kids, some think that his mother isn't even white and that it's made up so white people will like him. Look, stop looking to the person next to you for reassurance and look into the mirror and into truth for the best reassurance. 'You liberals' We are not star struck. The reason why people think we are is because we are confident and we try to get to know everyone. Rich, poor, famous and the not so famous. Just because we are all over the place, doesn't mean that we are ALL OVER THE PLACE!!!! Stop believing in shit that doesn't matter. Stop letting the media sway your intelligence. Get with it already. All of you who bash anyone's party of choice need to study it before bashing it. I don't like republicans because I have done my homework on them. I grew up in a home where the party was independent. I studied the parties and what they have done over the course of time before I came to conclusion that I wanted to be a democrat. I mean, it's not a coincidence that the big majority of poor people are democrats, and that most rich, white folks are republicans. And what's the trip is, that Black folks are the ones who helped start the republican party. And yes, there are people who has the same hate for democrats and that's what makes our country what it is. FREE (somewhat anyway). If everyone stopped feeding into the bullshit and voiced THEIR opinions and not the ones expressed and embedded into their heads, the media would have no other choice but to go back to it's real reporting days. And as far as hip hop, if you don't know the real meaning, stop talking about it. Soulja Boy and all those other fake, whack, commercial, non-talented, unintelligent, etc....ARE NOT REPRESENTING HIP HOP!!!. That shit is not hip hop, it's just rapping to make money...THAT'S IT!!!. No one ever said anything about a hip hop person being an adviser, but who is best to tell you about a situation than those that are in it everyday and living it. Those so called old rappers you referenced are the best to approach because they have been in longer and they have a better understanding of the entertainment bizz. And hip hop is not just a MUSIC GENRE. It has saturated the whole MUSIC INDUSTRY. Country, rock, alternative, even commercials for EVERYTHING. The powers that be saw that they couldn't defeat hip hop so they took it over. Listen to the next 10 commercials on t.v. and tell me if at least half of them don't have some type of hip hop in it. If you notice, other music genres hasn't invaded hip hop, but hip hop has certainly invaded all the others. Even the political world. McCain said he listens to Usher in his ipod. He didn't even know how to use the internet a few months ago and he listens to Usher? Get real folks, or this world will take your mind.
