Aren't You Sick of Gas Prices!?!? Here's Why They Are So High!!!

Posted on May 23, 2008 5:22 PM

This post was originally a comment from a frequent commenter named Atheist. It was so good I thought I'd post it. It really highlights why gas prices are so high.

Next time you give your credit card to the gas guy and sign away another $60 or so, consider that both political parties have sold you out. For decades, no President or Congress would confront that fact that corrupt third-world countries control most of the world's oil supply and those nations are definitely not looking out for us.

In the 1970s, when poverty-stricken Brazil began a massive investment in sugar-based ethanol, the United States shrugged and did little research into alternative fuel.

But when OPEC choked the Carter administration, leading to long gas lines, plenty was said about weaning the USA off foreign oil.

Nothing was done.

Presidents Reagan, Bush the Elder, Clinton and Bush the Younger, all did
little. There was no big push to conserve oil or to find another way to fuel the
nation. So now we're paying for their sins and, truth be told, some of our own as
well.

American liberals still don't want to drill in the Arctic Circle, still don't want more nuclear power (something that saves France and Sweden), and still oppose expanding refining capacity.

Conservatives still won't support government-mandated vehicle fuel efficiency, tighter controls on commodity speculators, and stricter oversight on American oil companies that are exploiting world tension. And, sadly, we the people are not cutting down on our energy consumption.

With that kind of performance, expect more pain ahead.

The oil companies will continue to make more profit than any business in the history of mankind, OPEC will continue to raise the price of oil, and China and India will continue to buy cartel oil at almost any price.

Both John McCain and Barack Obama promise to convene a kind of Manhattan
Project to fast track alternative energy development. Since the situation is now desperate, I believe those guys. But economically viable alternative energy is years away and fraught with danger.

Just a year ago, some of us thought corn-based ethanol was the answer. But be careful what you wish for. Converting corn to fuel has caused food prices to rocket. You see, corn is used to feed livestock, so when the price of corn goes up, so does the cost of meat and poultry.

Meanwhile, Brazil would like to sell us some of their sugar-based ethanol. But Congress has imposed a tariff on it in order to help American farmerswho, of course, are now paying record prices for oil.

Is this a mess or what? Here is the tough love solution:

1. All American made vehicles must get 30MPG by 2010 or pay a major tax
surcharge to the government.

2. Oil and commodity speculators must put up 50% of their transactions in
cash. That would weed out some of the gamblers who are manipulating the market.

3. American oil companies must supply the federal government with a
written explanation every time they raise the price of gas and oil.

4. Americans would be asked to cut back at least 10% on leisure driving
and not to buy gas at all on Mondays.

There is little we can do about OPEC as long as China, India and others are
willing to pay what the traffic will bear. But here at home we can send powerful messages to the auto, gas, and commodities industries. If we don't get tough, our enemies, along with greedy Americans, will drive oil prices so high a worldwide depression will ensue.

Which, by the way, is exactly what the terrorists want.

gas/diesel fuel is not going down EVER so prepare to see truckers go on strike (that means no more food) what is going down though is america (aka babylon) and im waitin for this shit so i can beat the fuck outta ESAU(the so-called whiteman) at will and steal all their shit thats stolen anyway GOD DAMN AMERIkkkA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man, please, these countries are not corrupt. No more corrupt than people like Diddy selling you shirts that cost no more than $10 to make but selling them to the public for $50 to $60. Hey, lets consider Jordans that don't cost no more than $10 to make but sells them to the public for $150 or more. For many, many, many years consumers were ripping these oil-producing countries off. A gallon of gas for many, many, many years was less than a gallon of milk, and still gas is cheap.

This is the problem, inflation. All this consuming that has went on. Houses worth triple or more than you paid. Credit card debt increasing more than personal income. Lets not forget the shopping sprees. Oh, no down payment houses. All this borrowing. Lets not forget global demand!!!

so please stop crying, just prioritize better and get rid of that BIG BOY TRUCK AND THEM OLD SCHOOL GAS GUZZLING CHEVYS!!!

you are right on target my kind friend. But the politicians want their cake and the ice cream on top of it. They want to help people but they want their oil checks to cover their yatchs, mistresses, child sex slaves, drugs, booze, strippers, male porn stars (Bohemin Grove).

The politicians are psychotics that are driven by power and greed, they can overturn anything that is hurting the common american, but the power and money is too great of an drug to go cold turkey.

With all the tensions in the Middle East, including the war in Iraq and Iran's nuclear program, oil will be propped up for a while.

It's not so much whether these tensions will cause a disruption in oil flow, but more the perception that they might. It's this fear of disruption that will keep oil prices high, in addition to rampant hedge fund speculation. The bottom line is that even though oil is at historically high levels, if it's justified in the market's eyes, then it will stay there. Remember, there are a plethora of large institutions and hedge funds invested in this market that will do all they can to protect their long positions.

Get your facts RIGHT!!! Oil made from corn is NOT making food prices go UP!!! And all these presidents are the same Obama and McCain isn't going to do anything because companys have invested in their Presidential tickets, that's why we need a preseident with no ties to big companies.

how about paying 1.50 for a 8oz bottle of water. nobody bitches about that shit

All i can say is wow. One name comes to mind, Prescott Bush. You do the research. As for gas and energy..lmao. The auto industry was makin concepts that was getting 40mpg 10-15years ago. Theres a group of guys in austraila that has made a self substaining generator that is magnetically powered it can power a house and more for years. that machine alone would make the combustion engine, obsolete. Guess who trying to buy the rights to it? The technology been here, but Brother oil make $ure u dont know.

@Biko

LMAO at the gas pricing sign above...

@CeeThatBoy

You make a good point.

Some would say that the rising demand for natural resources is brought on by the worlds population continually increasing.

China has a law that limits women to having only one child, the United States allows abortions to the point where there are people who would support partial birth abortions and teenage girls under the age of 18 having abortions without their parental consent.

Do you see where im going with this?

Im not an expert on agriculture and the natural elements, but some are saying that there are too many people and not enough natural resources.

I dont know if that is true or not.

im saying their makeing hybird cars that run on sun light or batteries and their selling them rite now!!! and they dont even cost that much.so i think the people in the u.s should look around at your local car dealer and buy one.cause these gas prices are wayyy too much.and also theirs a way that you can run your house on sun light and batteries too but thats something you got to look for .their rasieing the gas prices cause they dont like the u.s.they dont like our cuture weather its hip hop or rock.they dont like our churches most of the arabs are muslim.and in those countrys you will go to jail or be hung if your not muslim.that could be one of the reasons why their makeing the gas prices very high over here. or it chould be just greed or it could be a mix of both. something is going on against us and i think the goverment should do something.ever since 911 the u.s hasen been the same.we had it good threw the late 1970s threw 2001. but now a dayz its kinda bad.wish things will change...

nice article and good read. I would like to know how anyone figures America to be Babylon when it encompasses a variety of people and beliefs. Never made sense to me.

How about we leave Iran alone, remove the embargo and let them produce more fucking oil.

i was readin this, and somebody tried to hack into my cpu, THIS IS MAJOR

Man Oh Man, This situation with the gas is som simple but yet so complex. Our constitution was made for the people to have power and control as "WE" see fit "We The People" Were all parents able and capable of smacking our gonvernment in the mouth and giving them discipline but we don't know any better. We, as Americans have the power to stop Political rape that we endure every day. Take all the politicans and line them up and compare that group against all of the Americans in the U.S. We have power we just think we don't.

Great post.

Everyone's to blame for this foolishness. And it's America's cocky and lazy attitude towards the future. It's American automobile companies who invested millions into making GIANT SUV's and pickup trucks instead of mid-size and full-size cars that are economical and affordable.

Nissan will be releasing a nice looking electric car within the next two years. And Chevy is releasing the Volt next year I think. If that Chevy is as promised, you better believe I'm trading in my car to get it.

I see a couple of you on the other SOHH blogs from time to time. And you must admit, no matter what side of the political spectrum you're on, THIS particular blog has substance. Peace to Biko and the usuals here.

Ok, I work on Wall Street so I know why oil prices are so high. Hedge funds, Pension funds, etc are pushing the prices up. Oil trades in the futures market with each future's contract equating to a certain amount of barrels. There are different types of oil, brent crude, light sweet crude, etc. I won't get into what the differences are, but just know that everyone wants to light sweet because it has less sulfur. Anyway, these funds are driving up the commodities prices because they have nowhere else to put their money. Stock prices are sh*tty and bond spreads are in the toilet. But the main reason why these funds are driving up commodities prices is because of the decline of the dollar. Commodities act as a hedge to the dollar trade. So just know that when the dollar is devalued, commodities (oil, gold, corn, platinum, etc) will go up. Bottom line, these funds are pouring billions of dollars into the oil market, into the gold market, into the corn market, into the soybean market, into the natural gas market, into the platinum market, into the copper market...why?? Because THEY HAVE NOWHERE ELSE TO PUT IT!!! The housing crisis has messed the markets up so much, these funds have nowhere else to put their money except into commodities. Has nothing to do with increased global demand, or OPEC, or the government, or any of the big oil companies or anything like that. It's the speculators, plain and simple. Don't you guys know that the oil companies haven't even passed along all of the costs associated with the oil they produce??? Why? It's because they can't. If they were to pass along the FULL cost then gas would easily be at $6 a gallon. They can't pass the cost along because demand would go down, thus reducing revenues. People, oil is at an ALL TIME HIGH!! It just hit $137 a barrel, which is absolutely unheard of. I'm not going to get into crack spreads or anything like that, but just know that it has made everything expense. So again, gas prices and food prices are not high because of the gov't, OPEC, oil companies, the bilderberg group, the Masons or any other group that think may have a hand in it. It is speculators hedging their bets against the falling dollar. The dollar fell because the federal reserve lowered interest rates because of the dislocations in the credit markets, which was due to the massive losses that companies were taking on MBS, CDO and CDS securities, these securities failed because they are made up of hundreds or thousands of mortgages that are now being defaulted on, these mortgages were made because of the low interest rates we had back in the early 00's, interest rates were low back then because the fed lowered them in order to deal with the bursting of the internet bubble in the early 2000's. See, it's ALL a domino effect.

Trust me on this one, I work in the markets everyday and have many friends who are hedge fund managers so I know what strategies they are, have been and will be using. And this is one that EVERYONE is using! I'm gone..

EACH ONE TEACH ONE!

Thanks for the education Cauxion! There are some "experts" predicting $200 a barrel before the end of the year which would definitely set off riots in the street.

Your thoughts?

Also to Atheist, consider this, oil is used to make fertilizer, lubricants, containers, etc. and is also used to ship those products around the world. When the price of oil goes up, the price of everything goes up.

Collapsing dollar, eh? How convenient. I wonder how long it'll be before they announce he AMERO.

at bigb8888
word up son I feel u,

Sad isn't it, the most abundant natural resource is being sold as if we running out...like it won't rain again!

@ Cauxion:

could it be that it is all done purposely, to alleviate the dollar all together...something we don't know anything about??

Let's take a look at that.

The Banks are still throwing money behind the housing slump, creating the illusion to Americans that even though sub-prime lending devasted the market, it can still recover..but by trying to pressure banks to lend more money, it is only going to make the dollar worth less and less. Because let's face it, American comsumers will NOT be able to pay back any money. So when we pay our money to retail, and everything else, ESPECIALLY at the gas pumps, the central bank throws money behind commodities...essentially alleviating the dollar.

what about the NAU? The Amero?

The truth is, this country is in Giant DEBT to the Central Bank, the federal reserve, as much money is printed up, the more we become indebted.

Interesting article and even more interesting comments.

Hmm, I thought gas was so high because the dollar is worth pennies.

im still in disbelief over the fact that the US lost 11billion dollars while going to iraq. Somebody jacked it and they aren't tellin. What a waste of money.

we have the presidential candidates running around telling voters that they will help solve high gas prices.

Well, if you believe that, you'll believe that Hugo Chavez drives a Yugo.

It's just bull.

Both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are calling for "investigations" into "price gouging" by American oil companies.

Good.

There's plenty of price manipulation going on and, under Presidents Bush and Clinton, little federal oversight.

If a big oil company wants to tighten supply, for example, it's a snap.

Just slow down the refinery process by ordering some extra "maintenance" or something.

But who's going to investigate Senator Obama and Senator Clinton over their opposition to oil drilling?

The Democratic Party has consistently opposed new drilling, and nuclear energy as well.

Even the dedicated liberal governments in France and Sweden bought into nuclear.

But not the American left, no way.

On the Republican side, President Bush has done absolutely nothing about rising gas prices, which is part of the reason is approval rating is approaching 20%.

He blames the Democrats.

Fine.

But the President should be telling all Americans to cut back their gas consumption by 15%.

He should be urging us to use less gas.

That would at least cut into big oil's record profit margins.

Senator John McCain proposes a gas tax "holiday" this summer.

True, that would save the folks a few bucks, but it would also add to the massive spending deficit.

The government better start balancing the budget soon before Häagen-Dazs becomes more valuable than the U.S. currency.

The sad truth is that both political parties have sold out the folks.

For decades, economists knew China and India were industrializing and those countries would demand much greater amounts of oil.

Everybody knew that OPEC could slow down production and gouge the world if it could and, of course, now it can.

But if Americans would get angry and begin punishing the oil bandits, then prices would drop.

However, we are often a selfish people.

We want those gas-guzzling Hummers and SUVs, and we're paying a big price for that above and beyond the sticker.

If I were president, I'd be on every program leading the charge to buy less gas, urging folks to conserve energy in creative ways.

I'd create peer pressure against the guzzle crowd.

I'd name the names of greedy oil company CEOs who are making tens of millions of dollars while working folks suffer.

We need leadership on this energy business, or it is going to cripple our economy.

Our energy incompetence has already empowered our enemies.

So let's get angry out there.

We the people can do this.

Big oil is not looking out for us.

Let's stop rewarding it.

Atheist, you are confused. Why would Bush tell the American people to cut gas comsumption? That is exactly what he wants! Gas consumption! The SPP( security and prosperity partnership of North America) is an international work-in-progress that the U.S. State Department and
Department of Commerce have embarked on without the consent or oversight of the U.S. Senate or
Congress. The dollar is becoming and will become useless. Once it is worth nothing, the administration will present the "Amero" as a saving grace.
The resolution--sponsored by Republican Reps. Virgil Goode Jr. of Virginia, Tom Tancredo of Colorado, Walter Jones of North Carolina, and Ron Paul of Texas--expresses "the sense of Congress that the United States should not engage in the construction of a North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) Superhighway System or enter into a North American Union (NAU) with Mexico or Canada."
Armed with the Internet release of about 1,000 documents, obtained in a Freedom of Information Act request to the Security ad Prosperity Partnership of North America, the coalition has the potential to embarrass the governments of all three countries.

According to Corsi, "the documents show the White House is engaging in collaborative relations with Mexico and Canada--outside the U.S. Constitution.

It's all a con game. An illuminist plot. Taking more money out of the peoples hands while placing you and I in a deeper debt. Obama, Hillery, McCain, Bush. They all know what the truth of the matter is however they are only mere puppets for the Luciferians. You mean to tell me that we can do wonders in science and space but we can't solve gas prices. We are looking to a man to solve our problems when only God can. We are headed into a time of trouble so terrible that when we look back in hindsight we will wish for days such as this. Can't you people see 911 was a hoax. The war in Iraq is a hoax. Gas prices are another hoax. Still no one cares. You people are being dupped. These leaders pose as Americans while all the while they are bringing about the downfall of America and a New World Order. Only God and no mortal man can save you now.

@Caxion

Heres what Alan Greenspan had to say about the housing crisis after he contributed to it and then retired :

Alan Greespan :

"An almost hysterical antagonism toward the gold standard is one issue which unites statist of all persuasions. They seem to sense – perhaps more clearly and subtly than many consistent defenders of laissez-faire – that gold and economic freedom are inseparable, that the gold standard is an instrument of laissez-faire and that each implies and requires the other. . . . This is the shabby secret of the welfare statists' tirades against gold. Deficit spending is simply a scheme for the confiscation of wealth and property. Gold stands in the way of this insidious process. It stands as a protector of property rights."
**************************
He was right!

Gold and freedom go together.

Gold money is both the result of freedom and its leading protector.

When money is as good as gold, the government cannot manipulate the money supply for its own purposes.

Just as the rule of law puts limits on the despotic use of police power, a gold standard of currency puts extreme limits on the government's ability to spend, borrow, and otherwise create crazy unworkable programs.

The government is forced to raise its revenue through taxation, not inflation, and generally keep its house in order.

Without the gold standard, the government is free to work with the Federal Reserve Bank to inflate the currency without limit.

This is being done on purpose to strip the american people of their wealth, property, and civil liberties.

Most of the time, governments are pleased to inflate their currencies so long as they don't have to pay the price in the form of mass bankruptcies, falling exchange rates, and inflation.

But our government officials are backing suicidal policies because in th words of frequent commenter "Enoch" :

"they have sold their souls."

LOL!

The Federal Reserve Bank has been inflating that worthless piece of paper called the american dollar at very high levels for awhile now,
And In the real world of course, there is a lag time between cause and effect.

The consequences of this disastrous policy are showing up only now in the form of a falling dollar, higher gold prices, home foreclosures, high gas and food prices.

How much easier matters were when we didn't have to rely on the wisdom of exalted monetary central planners like Ben Bernanke.

Under the gold standard, the supply of money regulated itself.

The government kept within limits.

Banks were more cautious.

Savings were high because credit was tight and saving was rewarded.

This approach to economics is the foundation of a sustainable prosperity.

We don't have that system now for the country or the world.

Is a gold standard feasible again?

Of course.

The dollar could be redefined in terms of gold.

Interest rates would reflect the real supply and demand for credit.

We could shut down the Federal Reserve Bank and we would never need to worry again what the chairman of the Fed wanted.

What keeps the gold standard from becoming a reality again is the love of big government and war.

If we ever fall in love with freedom again, the gold standard will once more become a hot issue in public debate.

1. All American made vehicles must get 30MPG by 2010 or pay a major tax
surcharge to the government.

yeah because that what we need...more regulation

2. Oil and commodity speculators must put up 50% of their transactions in
cash. That would weed out some of the gamblers who are manipulating the market.

LOL. How is there speculation in the market? all this oil is being USED.

The price of oil is a function of the massive amount of money that the government is printing.

3. American oil companies must supply the federal government with a
written explanation every time they raise the price of gas and oil.

lol...once again...ridiculous. Government in large part is responsible for the high prices due to the amount of money they are printing, creating huge inflation. If you have a problem with high oil prices, look to the head of the fed for answers.

4. Americans would be asked to cut back at least 10% on leisure driving
and not to buy gas at all on Mondays.

What would this accomplish? once again there is almost no speculation in the market, ALL THE OIL IS BEING CONSUMED. If Americans don't consume this oil, guess what, the rest of the world is going to consume it.

@Memphis' Own

How am i confused?

Where in the comments that i posted do you read that i believe that Bush,Mcain or OBAMA for that matter,WANTS to tell the american people to cut down on their gas consumption???

Not for nothing memph but i posted comments about NAFTA,the super highway from texas to mexico, the EU,AU,and the North american union a long time ago on the sohhnyc blog.

I am simply trying to get people to think about the moves that their government makes about situations that they care about.

You cannot shove a big t-bone steak in a infant babys mouth, you have to feed them baby food first.

Caxion posted a comment that insinuated that there is no merit to the claims made in the comment i posted or to conspiracy theories for that matter.

So i attempted to tell him a little about the Federal Reserve bank that runs his wall street.

I was interested as to what his response would be but the comment didnt go up.

Do you see what im trying to say Memph?

You cant expect EVERYBODY to buy EVERYTHING your selling right away, because they might not be ready for all of that.

I learned that while presenting heart wrenching FACTS about religion to sohh's resident evangelist priest "PZ." LOL!

P.s. The Amero currency? That might happen but dont hold your breath, some experts say that there might be a union of Canada, america, and mexico in everything except name.

But who knows, once the american people lose all of their civil rights and property, they'll be able to do anything they want.

Just to play the devil advocate,i gotta question for you...

Is it really that bad in europe since the EURO took over?

The euro is KILLING the dollar.LOL!

My muslim friend told me that the army is over in the middle east to build some kind of underwater pipeline across the ocean to amerikkka that transports oil.
Anybody heard this before?

If we (meaning the world) don't quickly change the way we are living, we will all find ourselves in hell for eternity. Just look at whats going on in the world. In America you have gays marrying, religion being taken out of everything. Everything that we were taught to be right, we are doing the exact opposite right now. Everything now is about sex, money, and power. I am just as guilty as the next man or woman, but I may be one of the few people left who actually will admit that there is a problem, and feel guilt for my actions. I really don't know to much about the bible, but the little I do know leads me to believe that this sought of things will not be tolerated much longer and a great change is coming. Its time for a CHANGE now.

All I know is this, in the last week where I live on the east coast gas went from $4.09 to $4.25 for regular and I just noticed that this morning. So I'm about to do a few things, (1) I'm shopping for a gas station to buy, straight up because right now nobody is hustling bigger than Big Oil, (2) I'm going to buy a slick 3-wheel scooter. I saw them when I was in France earlier this year, they're good on gas, are more stable than the 2-wheel regular ones and they're fast as hell.

Actually, what I'm really sick of is the war. Can we just bring our sons and daughter's home. I will pay $10 a gallon if they could all just be home. Let's stop fighting. What are we teaching our kids? You lock people up for killing, but then go send our future overseas to murder. Our future is in danger, these people are never the same. Think about it. Is always about money. Let's save our future. Is time for Obama to take over so that my sons can have a better day.

@CEETHATBOY

The problem with what you said is that we don't need what Diddy sales in order to live.

Its a wrap for the oil pipeline....it was the original reason they went to afghanistan in the first place but they found out there was a lot less oil than was speculated.....check out the book, "Petrodollars"....

ESAU is Jesus, but it's spelled Issa. (Issa who ate his meat raw - Killah Priest) If you wanna beat up some white folk, come see me. Until the ignorance is gone, nobody will prosper. Georgia obviously ain't droppin that knowledge. 10% f@ggot

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Issa

Finally a real issue on SOHH...this gas dilemma is clearly not that hard to solve but as americans we all have to band together and become more proactive in conserving energy....It's not that this issue is out of control it's that we are at that breakpoint where we need to smartin up or deal w/ the consequences....It's more than just gas prices and food...we need to change the political and social landscape across America beginning w/ this next presidential election...that's our first step....Keep us informed BIKO

HAVENT U PEOPLE HEARD SACRAFICE IN TIME OF WAR?

The major problem with the oil price are all these future price traders which deal with hedge funds ect.. very time one these oil producing countries has an issue the jack up the price in a futur report. Ex nigerian rebels try to take over part of the pipeline. In a report they say due to this occurance the price of oil will go up by $6 a barrel in 6 months. This part of the market has been regulated in the past until and you guessed it Bush came into the white house. In the 70's the price went up dramaticlly because the supply was cut off thats a true supply and demand problem. After that oil price pretty much stayed stable there was a fluctuation sometime. Ex oil tanker spill (supply) Summer vaction season would see a slight increase (demand) but through the 80's and 90's gas and oil stayed stable in the 90's gas. In 2000-2001 two events happened. First oil was put on the futures market which was developed after the tech stocks crash to help look at and predict futur trends in the market. Second 9/11 which hurt every market. This is where fear started being used as a way to make money and the futures market was deregulated ENRON pulled the same trick. Even though OPEC is part of the problem it's not all on them as Bush and others would have you think. Here is what we can do as united people. First vote but when those people get into office hold them accountable write them, call them, question them, rally either in support of what their doing or protest it. If they aren't doing their job support someone else and them do the same thing make them. We as a people need to conserve. Right now we can buy smaller cars and more gas friendly cars. Stop putting extra stuff on cars and trucks that take away from the preformance of the car or truck try to take public trasportation as much as you can. support alturnat forms of energy development.

Well, as far as $200 oil, I don't see it happening in the near future. In a few years, most likely, but not anytime soon. That is because demand will plummet, and if demand plummets so will oil revenues and the economy. Oil is at about $130 a barrel right now, and if you paid attention to the news Pres. Bush just went over to Saudi Arabia to ask them to lift their restrictions on the supply of oil. See, if they pump more oil into the system they cause more supply, which will in turn bring the price down. They Saudi's pretty much said "Get the hell out of here"... lol.. The Saudi's and every other country on the planet knows that we got ourselves into this mess. We are the ones that lowered interested rates down to next to nothing, which encouraged greedy folks to give out these outlandish mortgages. Now that the U.S.'s economy is tanking and gas is going through the roof we want to go crying to them!! lol.. Hilarious. They were right to tell us to go F*ck ourselves. I would've done the same thing. Now coming from a pure investment perspective I see a pull back in oil here in the near future. I think there has been a lot of fomenting lately and that will begin to dissipate here in the near future. You know, us on Wall Street have a joke about the average consumer, who we like to call "unsophisticated investors". We say that the minute the average investor gets word of a great investment, it's time to trade out of it. That means that once you, and your friends start talking about a specific trade, whether it be oil, gold, corn or whatever, it's time for the big boys to start selling. Right now EVERYONE is talking about oil. The average consumer now knows that oil, as well as every other commodity, is at an all-time high. Therefore the big boys are going to start selling into it, meaning they're going to start selling their shares to you and wait until the market goes down and laugh as you sit there holding the bag wondering what the hell just happened. This article, and the comments made in it is a classic example. This oil bull market has been going on for YEARS. The last few months it has just exploded and the "smart money" has taken advantage of it by buying up all of the oil futures, oil stocks,ETF's, etc. See, now you have the average investor, as evidenced by this very article, talking about oil going up... that's a clear indication that it is time to sell. I'm telling you, it never fails. As you and I are talking about oil, my big money hedge fund friends are preparing to sell all of their securities to you so they can take their profits and wait until the market goes back down so they can laugh at you. Trust me on this, because it is what I am doing right now. I am in the process of selling ALL of my ETF and oil stock securities into the rally because I see it coming back down.

Now, that is in the short term. The long term? I see it EVENTUALLY going to $200. That is because of increased demand in India and China, which are rapidly becoming industrialized. Remember, these places have BILLIONS of people, and they are all looking to move into the middle and upper classes within the next few years. Just like in America back in the early part of the 20th century, that increased prosperity will cause increased demand for motor vehicles, which will call for an increase in oil. Now, you can argue that we are running out of oil, or that we have plenty. Hell they just found what could be the largest deposit of oil ever found, it is located off of the coast of Brazil. Canada has "oil sand" which if they ever find an economic way to refine would be larger than what is in Saudi Arabia. Same thing with the "oil rocks" in Colorado. They just have to find a cost effective way to refine it. But as is, it costs more to drill and refine the oil sand and oil rocks than you can get from it in revenues, so it's not cost efficient, meaning right now it's not an option.

I could go on and on about this stuff, but my hands are getting tired and I have to get back to work. See ya later!

Oh, and Atheist is right on with everything he said!!!!! Again, I trade oil, gold and corn futures, so I know what's happening and why it happens. The smart people on the street (Wall Street) know what's going on, but no one is talking. We are talking to each other, but we are not talking to people on the outside. That's because we all have skin in the game and can not afford to give people the low down. Don't ever listen to the so called experts.
