Is Barack Obama's Pastor Racist or Is He Just Telling the Truth?

Posted on March 17, 2008 10:19 AM

For the last week the mainstream media has been smashing Barack Obama's pastor, Pastor Jeremiah Wright, for his comments about Hillary. I personally think that the whole thing is a little bit blown out of porpotion. Especially because this isn't anything that Barack said.

It's like the media is intentionally trying to make race and gender the primary issue in the campaign. I said this before, but its going to be real ugly this year, regardless of who the Democratic candidate is.

But at the end of the day I think Barack needs to get some smart black media advisors around him to help him with his communications message. I personally think he could have handed this and the Farrakhan situation way better if he would have been willing to speak a little more honestly about how Black America feels about race. I know that people think that "real talk" could hurt his chances...but I think at the end of the day if he doesn't speak honestly about race he is going to be painted into a corner for the rest of his life.

Barack has very few smart black advisors around him right now. Nearly all of his staff members are young white men (I won't comment on whether they are smart). Weirdly, Clinton has more top black staff than Obama does.

Peace 2 All,

i'm "goin in", fuck it!

i don't know what dude said, and these computers here are restricted from playing streamed material.....

actually i think i did catch it on the radio this morning, and yo his pastor has every right to say what he said......... and personally i feel if the Government used those brothas in the Tuskeegee Experiment for what they were used for, then i'm not beyond the thought of them creating HIV/AIDS....and with an objective.........

Does that make me racist? No, it just makes me have an opinion, and i will say that the documented orgins of HIV/AIDS has a Eugenic(research it you mutts) undertone to it.... regardless if you wanna say it originated from African Monkeys or Homo's, not counting the fact that trying to shut down a man who has been said to have a cure for it........

Overall, I think Obama needs to stop trying to play the "safe" role right now, cause while he and Hillary are arguing about utter bullshit, da dude McCain is on da low traveling and gaining morale, and is probably using the mockery of the Democratic Parties cat-fight as extra ammo for his cause!

Wright is telling the truth about America. He isn't the first to say it. As far as Obama discussing race openly, he should avoid it. See, what happens with that is that white folks love that conversation. This gives them a chance to either apologize or call you a racist. If he injects this into the conversation, this will become the only thing they talk about. It will distract from the issues that he is trumpeting and Hilary will have her chance to talk about her so called great rapport with the Black community. He needs to continue to take the high road. Let Hilary's desparate ass bring it up. Let Fox News continue to claim he's avoiding them. Obama is doing well, he doesn't need to change a thing.

I think that his pastor was telling the truth! Barack has to denounce his pastor's messsage because it's to controversial and it certainly won't get him elected to the white house if he endorsed his pastor's statements of "chickens coming home to roost". The media is playing the race card because America is a racist society but knowone wants to have honest discussion (real talk) about our differences and similarities. Barack needs to holla at a Biko, K-Mos, Malia , Keegan and get real facts and statistics about what America has systematically done to the poor, people of color, and oppressed.

I think he had no choice to answer the way he did, I mean he didn't even reject the individuals, he only said he wasn't backing up certain speeches which triggered certain emotions in some people, he wasn't wrong in doing that, if someone does not understand that, i think it's a shame... Even Minister Farrakhan understood and encouraged people to still back Barack Obama.

Look here, whether Wright is being racist or telling da truth, the reality is that its becoming crunch time as far as delegates..So Hilary is looking for anything to unjustly stop Baraks momentum. If Wright really cared about Barak, he wouldnt have been stupid enough to make the comments at such a bad time. Barak has to distance himself just to appease ignorant crackas

Dude was telling the truth....white america just don't like hearing the truth.Especially our truth.

The only thing Black about Obama is his suite! "Like the boy Jhon said,Clinton has more black staff than he does period!" Look @ how hes handeling things allready.....by the time this is over, this will look like Nas vs JAY-Z.......and most niggas will flipflop back to JAY-Z CLINTON! "IS IT OCHY WALLY-WALLY,OR IS IT ONE MIC,IS IT BLACKGIRL LOST,OR SHORTY OWE YOU FOR ICE? I BEEN REAL ALL MY LIFE"........

what baracks pastor said is the muthafuckin' truth.
-
what it is, white amerikkka never excepted there responsibilities for the injustices that goes on in amerikkka towards its black citizens so in return it sounds strange to hear things like this.
-
jus like the brother sinistah said, the tuskeegee air men WAS injected with syphillis but the idea of the government injected blacks, homos, and other goups of dark skin people around the world with this virus is supposed to be far fetched? how?
like how the hell is aids infecting so much africans in africa but not those hot ass drunk white sluts? but the starving africans are hungry but fucking off the chain? that makes no sense, what it is them drug companies is giving them "vaccines" and its really the virus and thats how they do studies and research from it. but that sounds crazy and unbelievable but thats what they did to the tuskeegee men.
-
but what i find really funny is how much flack barack is getting for runing a "colorless" campaign but the clintons who continues to "inject" race as a factor instead of politics gets a slap on the back. thats from bob jonson to the more recent comment from that white bitch.
-
this whole situation is boiling down to mccain winning, i doubt if they giv hillary the nom because them white people are already talking about riots in the streets if hillary win, but mccain will win the election-dirty muthafuckas

whats crazy is how white amerikkka like to make it like we the ones started race shit. they quick to call al sharpton a "race baiter" (whatever that shit is) but every black person that gets interviewed is asked what? so are u voting for barack? they showed a chart of the mississippi primaries and showed like 97% of blacks voted for barack and i was so proud of that black unity, but fox news made that shit look like what the white bitch said about barack ONLY winning cause hes a black man and amerikkka is in love with that "concept"

ya'll spazzin, by no means is Obama "coonin" because he hasn't been as verbal as he could be about the race issue.... as i stated, he's playing a "safe"/passive role in it all, and i think we all know how eloquent sun is wit da wordplay, now we need to see da toughness shine through.....

right now, its like "ok he can speak well, but can he stand strong on his views" and not so much in terms of race-relations, but overall!

I do agree that he should have more of us on his team, but then again he's mulatto, and maybe that is a factor in his "lack of black" i guess.......

see i see that different, if he had more blacks on his team, and spoke more about black issues and shit he woulda been lost. what black people have to realize and NOT forget is THIS ISNT OUR LAND we jus stayed andwas breed here, so he cant "buck" the system for blacks when we're the "minority" so he have to play to stay. its jus like geting a job, i got tats all over but i wear a long sleeve button down for work, and when its casual day they see my tats but its to late. he gotta paly the game, what gets me is that the clintons been playing off of race, hell the fuckers said they gonna throw the kitchen sink at barack, but baracks pastor makes these statements and THAT gets more attention then what mccains pastor said.

America has killed more inocent woman and children per capita than any other nation on earth. I guess if said how americans killed blacks by castration, lynching etc. he would still be racist. As the great B. Marley said "the truth hurt, but it is not a sin" What Wright said has been said by others over and over again. The man is a preacher not a cult leader. The beauty of christianity is that we do not have to agree with our pastors/rev/leader etc. The media is acting like barack said these things. The man has a right to say what the hell he wants to say independent of whatever barack or any other member of the congregation thinks.

Pastor Wright's statement are racist. Regardless of whether there is some truth to the things that were said, the manner in which they were said were wrong. His words are delivered with hate and that's unacceptable. What the difference between him preaching to the members of his church and the Grand Master Shithead preaching at a Klan rally? There is none. Hate is hate! His statement should reflect badly on Obama because he's being a member of this man's church for 20 years. I'm sure that this man has been preaching with the same hate for the past 20 years. The "I wasn't there that day" excuse won't work in this situation. If you guys can't open your eyes and see what's in front of you then you deserve bullshit that will come. If this guy were white and preaching against black people, all of you that are defending his statements would be outraged especially if he was mentor to a presidential candidate. Seriously, you guys need to some off this bullshit. This guy is preaching "God Damn America" and it's okay? You have to be out of your freaking mind. Another thing, these things were said back in 2001 and 2003. Obama knew his pastor had said these things, but he didn't denounce his statements until last week. That's bullshit. Obama and his camp should have been prepared to handle this situation from the jump. If black people are willing to allow this type of hate to go on, then they shouldn't say a word when whites or anyone else spreads hate. We can't oppose racism or hate only when we're on the receiving end.

The media is reporting that Pastor Wright has been saying these types of things for years. And that Brotha Barack "must have" known what this dude's been saying. And NOW this shit comes to light? There's something fishy going on. Think about this. Brotha Barack anounced more than a year ago that he was running for Pres-O-Dent. You mean to tell me that someone sat on this story for more than a year?

I tried to told y'all many blogs ago that Schmillary will steal this from Brotha Barack. She's being quiet right now because I'm sure that she and Willy had a hand in this. This reaks of the Clinton machine. Y'all know how much influence the Clintons have major influence with the liberal media. If those sermons were not originally shown on television, who leaked them then?

Yo some of the shiit he said was true.. but if a white person was saying the same thing but about blackss, wouldnt black people go crazy and riot.

RACIST

Dont 4get what the hell pastor manning said about barack, or bob johnson, or the bitch that was down with the clintons that said barack is winning cause he's black, the mccain supporter that wanted to only call barack by or including his middle name and the internet pics and shit. please the clintons BEEN doing this but barack gets flack? hmmm..........
@ hell yeah son & ignorantpeople....
-
if its the truth then why not speak about that? niggas always wanna feel a way to speak out against the bullshit involved with amerikkka. when whites was doing there lynching shit it wasnt racist right? that was a misunderstanding, but when i pastor speak about the bullshit in amerikkka then WE'RE wrong, but if he was speaking about terrorist in the same tone he'll be right on point right? SMH @ niggas that feel a way about critizing whites.

"Yo some of the shiit he said was true.. but if a white person was saying the same thing but about blackss, wouldnt black people go crazy and riot."

That is because if white people say it, it would be FALSE.
The KKK doesn't like us because of pigmentation, Rev Wright doesn't like racist white people because they are racist and have the power! Learn your history bro.

So this is where racism has evolved/devolved - now BLACK people are the cause of racism.
Damn ni**ers, always complaining!!

What Pastor Wright said was true, I think it's just a matter of Obama keeping his distance from certain people & their opinions 4 now

i totally agree with the reverend and his unapologetic views on Amerikkka ..i dont know what fantasy world some of you negroes and colored folks live in but the world i come from shit is twisted the Government been indited for the monumental injustices done to the black race and if we cant speak our mind then this country dont deserve shyt..its sad Obama cant even real talk with America bcuz white people cant stand to look in the mirror but that day is coming quickly and they will have to face the music...and im sure if we were to sit in an Evangelical sermon you would hear the most racist white power sermons in your life..

Pastor Wright's statements were factual! No, Hillary is not like Barack. She has NOT had to deal with the things that America has thrown at him. RICH, WHITE people are at the helm of this country! She has never been called a Nigger! America (especially white Americans) have a real problem dealing with the truth. They have no concept of the pain and hurt that Blacks, Latinos, and Asians face daily in this country based on race alone. I understand that Barack doesn't want to ruin his chances after coming so far, but he needs to stand up for the voiceless in this country and agree that this IS the sentiment of most black Americans. Why America should then ask themselves "Why?"...

Fox News got their nerve calling someone racist all the racist news reporters they have on that channel. They have Bill o Reilly show on their station and he always saying racist things I don't see them talking about him.

As a Latino I am not going to take one side over the other but what the man said was true, you just have to look at the statistics. White people do run this country ( and probably the world) But I do agree that if a white person says something racist, he of she will be outed. To that guys who said that its the same as the KKK saying racist stuff, well the KKK has alot of blood ( have killed over a million blacks in this country) on their hands and they should be treated and tried like AL Qaeda. But the bottom line is that the media often divides this country through racism while the corporations are slowing diluting our country and preparing themsleves for the New World Order. DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE!!!

It is unacceptable for white preacher to say those statements because there is a history behind it. Slavery, civil right movement. There is no history of black people killing white people and abusing white people in the USA. So i dont see what Obama's pastor said to be racist. Alot of the black folks who grew up in the 60's feel that way. They still carry that animosity with them. I have been hearing those statements all the times, but it just make the white media uncomfortable

RRRAAAACCCCCIIIISSSSTTT

Sorry Bruh But It Is What It Is.

yup, racist. just like most black people.

see i see that different, if he had more blacks on his team, and spoke more about black issues and shit he woulda been lost. what black people have to realize and NOT forget is THIS ISNT OUR LAND we jus stayed andwas breed here, so he cant "buck" the system for blacks when we're the "minority" so he have to play to stay. its jus like geting a job, i got tats all over but i wear a long sleeve button down for work, and when its casual day they see my tats but its to late. he gotta paly the game, what gets me is that the clintons been playing off of race, hell the fuckers said they gonna throw the kitchen sink at barack, but baracks pastor makes these statements and THAT gets more attention then what mccains pastor said.

Co sign completely. Barack is playing it smart. There is a time and place for controversy. It isn't during the primaries. White folks look for any excuse to inject race into a conversation so that they can portray us as "angry Black people". Barack isn't a fool.

Pastor Wright's statement are racist. Regardless of whether there is some truth to the things that were said, the manner in which they were said were wrong. It's always one in the crowd. How do you know what his feelings were? Do you know Pastor Wright? Don't judge someone before you walk a mile in their shoes. It kills me how some of us Blacks have become brainwashed into believing that we have no right to get upset about discrimination. I guess it just doesn't exist now! I guess we should just continue to allow white America to shit all over us without saying one word in protest? NO! Pastor Wright has the right to his opinion. If you don't share it then disagree, but don't criticize, presume to know his frame of mind or make an incendiary judgement on him. At some point, someone has to expose their corruption. Don't be surprised if the Clinton's weren't behind this.

I've got an essay over at Rant/Rave - Opinions Since 2006" that discusses the media's coverage of Rev. Wright and his association with Mr. Obama. To just flat-out disqualify what the reverend has said in some of his sermons is dangerous because not only do we impinge his freedom of speech, we also say that it's O.K. to use his words against Barack Obama, who did not say these things. Some people, especially in Hip-Hop, have put these ideas forth on their own albums and were never under attack for speaking their minds. I guess you have to be associated with the next president for somebody to care what you say.

Forget all y'all that want to take his side. His comment may have been the truth, but if that Reverand was from Hillary's church. Oh y'all would be talking so much s**t. Forget y'all because if your going to make him look like he is a goody too shoes then y'all are full of s**t. SOHH come on don't be biased to one candidate. Show some class and not biased-ness.

Did this man and the rest of them forget that Barack is mixed (black and white)?

Yes it's both racist and true. Hillary has no idea what it is like to be a black man. That being said does the pastor know what it is like to be a white woman? No. A poll was taken that read that more people in our nation are sexist than racist. And those of you who talk about white america are just as ignorant as any other bigot. Not all white people are the same and not all white people have it easy.
Oh hey JCRUCIAL your just another ignoramus because the pastor never said he hated racist white people, he was just talking about white people. "The KKK doesn't like us because of pigmentation, Rev Wright doesn't like racist white people because they are racist and have the power!" Do you honestly think that all of the white inhabitants of America are part of the KKK? I sure hope not because you would be wrong. The pastor's inability to separate racist and non racist white people is just evidence of his own (and seemingly yours) bigot views.
But what is even worse is EL PHILTH because I have read several of your comments and you always seem so ignorant. Evangelicals make up a very small percentage of the American population and is not exclusive to just white people. What is more is that a lot, if not most, of the white population was not in America until after slavery. Most Americans can trace their heritage back to Germany and the pre-civil war German immigrants settled in union states and fought against the confederates.
You might think me stupid but truthfully those of you who spew ignorance are just as bad as the rest of the bigots, and generalizations are truly just bigotry. To assimilate different individuals into one group and say they feel/say/talk/act/think/look the same way is bigotry and to say otherwise is just ignorant.

My honest opinion about this whole presidential race. I feel like Obama is going to do a Tiger Wood's on us. Obama has too many white people backing him up, and that shows me that they can persuade him in their favor. Hilary on the other hand is not going to let anyone run her but her and that's what I like about her.

Please be quiet, The pastor was speaking the truth let it be.

if you can't recognize what the man said was the truth...maybe you need to do some reflection....

R.S, you told the truth with this quote:

" For a couple that has cried so loudly for so long about how much they care about equality, the Clintons seem to be quite willing to put Barack Obama "in his place", which, in their opinion, is anywhere but the White House."

When you stand up in front of your congregation and preach "God Damn America" it's painfully clear how you feel about things. I'm sure Pastor Wright's has experienced things were unjust in his life, but despite any injustice, that doesn't give anyone the right to spread hate. I never stated that black people don't have the right to be upset about the way we're treated in this country. We have every right to be upset when we are victimized because of our skin color and we should be outspoken. There are ways to be heard. Spreading hate is not the way! We are intelligent people. All too often, we've be subjected to the pain that is the result of hate. Why would anyone condone this man's hateful messages? If you, Obama, or anyone feels like this is way blacks should speak out against racism then you are delusional. If you think it's alright to stand up in front of your congregation after a national tragedy and proclaim that America brought this attack on themselves, you're delusional. If you feel that there is nothing wrong when a religious leader ask his GOD to damn his own people, you are delusional. If you believe that being hateful is the way that Black America is going to overcome the suppression of racism, you are truly delusional. I suppose that if you really feel this way then you have every right to, but if you wish to spread your hate in public, be prepared to be criticized. Do use all a favor and try to make it clear that you are speaking for yourself and not black America. Things like this sets us back 100 years.

I think it's awfully suspect that of all the videos floating around, SOHH would choose this particular video to question whether Pastor Wright is truthful or racist.

I think when you're a conscious black person in America your feelings are quite different from your white counterparts. They don't experience the racism and double standards that we experience everyday. The history of the black church is to comfort weary souls and constitute the feelings of america towards blacks in a language that we understood all too well. I don't agree with everything Mr. Wright spoke of even with me being a proud african american, I believe that America has farther to travel down the race road but, if we keep focusing on our differences and with no solutions it doesn't matter, its only lingo. Blacks need to put more emphasis on their community and teach empowerment and not to depend on the government for help and to start being more independent individuals. No one will give us anything we know this. I believe Barak gravitated to this particular preacher because of his status in the "black" community with him being a person of "mixed" heritage sometimes they feel they have to go the extra mile to be accepted by blacks and to over-embrace their blackness. There is no such animal. I wish people would not focus so much on this and move forward because whether whites believe it or not their are millions of ministers of every race preaching their beliefs that doesn't embrace those who are different, this is what religion is. The black culture is a entity in itself and beliefs vary as much as our skin tones. I do not believe everything my pastor speaks and I grew up in that church. He is a republican and I am a democrat, we have different beliefs but a common love for God and I respect him totally and God forbid if someone held me responsible for everything that comes out of his mouth and vice versa. This is probably Barak's take on his relationship with Jeremiah Wright also.

I'm just trying to understand..If its so bad where your at then leave...why stay in a county that represses you and keeps you down? I myself experienced racism and instead of staying in that place and being treated badly I removed myself and my family from that situation. What good does all the name calling and damming america ? By the way Abe Lincoln was a Republican not a Democrate...think about it.

Andre says...

....................................
my dude where did u get your info from... that's the thing, people just spit... wit out checking their facts

Truth is that blacks use the race card to get things for free and also the chance to be lazy. Try working for once....the jails are not full because you work so hard, it's because you don't want to work for the things you steal. Blacks are also blame the white man for everything, sorry we work so smart. I was born into a very poor family and I am the only one that went to college and also now own my own business. The government did not give it to me. Obama is racist. Ask any black why they are voting for him??? It's not his experience.. Obama willl not get elected I promise..

Male blacks gained legal equality before white and black females did. Women in the USA and worldwide are STILL oppressed by the male gender.
Brooklyn B, YOUR sexISM shows, not that I think you care to make any attempt to hide it. You refer to Hillary as a "bitch"
It's RACIST to call a person of color a "Nigger" and it's SEXIST to call a person of the female gender a "Bitch".
The female gender has ALWAYS been MORE OPPRESSED than black males.
Of Hillary Clinton & Barack Obama - Hillary has no doubt been subjected to more discrimination than Barack Obama has.

Wright's dramatically drawn out statement that "Hillary aint never been called a niggerrrrrrrr" is interesting. What's his point? That Barack Obama is a better qualified candidate for president of the USA because he's been called the "N" word?
That Hillary Clinton is a lesser qualified candidate for president of the USA because she's never been called the "N" word?
I heard the pastor of Hillary Clinton's church gave a sermon last week in wich she dramatically stated "Barack aint never been called a bittcccccccccch." What was her point? That Hillary Clinton is a better qualified candidate for president of the USA because she's been called the "B" word? That Barack Obama is a lesser qualified candidate because he's never been called the "B" word?

some of what he's saying is right, but most of it is pure racist. many black people say that others are racist against them, but they are racist against themselves and others. they put themselves at an inferior stage that's why they are deemed inferior. by generalizing that all white people are against his (the pastor's) race, he is being racist. I don't know about you guys, but being a pastor, he shouldn't be saying some shitty words like that. there are kids in the audience, and he's teaching them this. I don't know of any God that wants that. no wonder some black folks think they are underdogs, that's because they are fed with all these racist thoughts since they're young. I'm sorry, but this is disgusting. How can we stop racism, if we just keep on backfiring from each other. there's no end to this. It scares me to have a president whose pastor (someone he looks up to) is speaking so negatively.
