Barack Obama denounced and rejected Farrakhan in last night's debate
If you've been following the election you know that this isn't new news. For the last several months Obama has been dogged by various smear tactics including several fake "Obama is an anti-Semite" email campaigns. Every time these things pop up Obama denounces antisemitism.
And every time he has been asked about Farrakhan he has denounced him. Thats why I don't think Tim Russert should have asked Obama about the religious leader last night. It's old news. (It's funny because in recent years even Farrakhan has backed off many of his own statements.)
But I wonder if it was a smart move on Obama's part. Whether people want to admit it or not millions of Americans, of all racial backgrounds, including many Jewish folks look to Farrakhan as a legitimate religious leader. I personally think Obama should have given a more nuanced answer as to why he denounces Farrakhan. Because if he is the Democratic nominee he is going to have to make sure he doesn't isolate millions of people, including many hip-hop voters who look to Farrakhan as a leader.
I think he gave a perfect answer. Its a tough position because he didn't want to appear to throw Farakkan and his followers, however small, under the bus; but he couldn't appear to co-sign him. So he re-iterated that he does NOT share Farakkan's anti-semetic and racist views, yet he said he "can't stop somebody from sayiing he's an OK guy" Clinton looked rediculous she should have just kept her mouth shut. Clinton keeps digging her own hole.
That was a trap by the media to incite more division among blacks and jews. They obviously knew that putting Obama in the position to "reject" the Minister's support would do 1 of 2 things...Either enrage the black supporters of Obama that would call him a "sell out" if he rejected/denounced the Minister on live TV, or enrage the jewish supporters of Obama if he didn't. They clearly drew a line in the sand and it is unfair. Farrakhan has said MANY things that I disagree with, and has in fact been very racist at times. With that being said, he is still a community organizer and leader that strives to uplift the black community by speaking of accountability, pride, etc.. It is truly unfair for the media to expect Barack to side against anyone that supports him, especially another black leader. Let's face it, Barack is black, and being black in America will groom you to think differently about diversity and race relations. I wonder if they would have done the same to Hillary if Minister Farrakhan would've spoken in her favor the day before?
I think your missing the point, if we continue to elect leaders because of their ability to politic and keep everyone happy, we will continue to see very little change in this country. There are millions of people that believe gays are going to hell, should he also embrace them in case he needs to win the election? That's what everyone else would do, the point to this man's campaign is that he's not politics as usual. And for a culture that holds its mantra as keeping it real, hip hop heads that vote wouldn't be turned off by this.
Secondly, your looking at the wrong slice of the pie, if Barack didn't alienate Farrakhan, he would have been alienating about 40-50 million intelligent, moderate people who recognize that Farrakhan is extreme in his views. Do the math, I would have done the same.
For all of you who dont know...those who believe in TRUE ISLAM do not like Farrakhan. He has a price on his head in many Islamic Nations due to preaching false Islam. ISLAM has no color.
Recycled tactics. He did right, why would someone running for president accept endorsements from someone the majority denounces? They keep throwing Farrakan in his face because they expect him to sympathize with him simply because he's black, never mind how unpopular he is with the American public, which Obama is trying to persuade to elect him as their leader. This whole muslim-black thing is just a ploy to get Obama to throw his chances. Obama is too smart for that.
He denounced the derogatory statements that Farrakhan has made in the past. As well as his views and someone extremem tendencies. I think he gave the perfect response to that question.
Obama owned Hillary at the end of the clip
''I denounce AND reject!''
Presidential race pawnage!
I know the Farrakhan family personally and I know they don't even practice what they preach.Louis F. is nothing but a prolific hustler. He can put words together and is unrivaled in peforming great speaches, but he's no saint.Obama is just doing what he has to do.He mos definitely won't get nominated by embracing Farrakhans endorsement.
Weren't they neighbors when Barack resided in Hyde Park? Not so much as living next door but they did reside in the same community.Farrakhans mansion is on the same block as the old Muhammed Ali mansion.Barack used to stay bout 5 min from there. Not that it means anything but I know they have "polictic'd" before being they were living in the same area for so long and both are powerful figures in Chicago. Barack is just being safe to win the election. Which is the smart thing to do.He still hasn't shaked the bad press from being connected to Tony Rezko(mob figure).
would barak take the support of malcom x?
The fact of the matter is...Barack does not NEED Farrakhan's endorsement to become the Democratic nominee for President. Therefore, you do exactly what he did last night...sidestep the bullsh*t and move on...dont let these devils try to derail your chances by seeing if you have a need to be "down" with every Black leader. I'm not spooked out...Farrakhan IS NOT Jesus and Obama isn't figuratively a "Peter" denouncing him 3 times...
WHO IN THE FUCK LOOKS UP TO FARRAKAHN?? IT SURES AS HELL AIN'T ME...SPEAK FOR YOURSELF BLOG WRITER...FUCK FARRAKAHN AND EVERYTHING HE STANDS FOR....HE'S A SNAKE....WHEN MALCOLM CONFIDED IN HIM ABOUT ELIJAH MUHUMMAD'S LOVE CHILDREN, FARRAKAHN SAID HE ALREADY KNEW, THEN TURNED AROUND AND TOL MUHUMMAD HE WAS SPREADING RUMORS...FUCK 'EM...ALL DAY...
Go to hell with the "devils" comment. Take that little superficial, simple minded, one sided understanding of white society, "black predijuce" garbage back to the pit. Farrakhan is crazy trying to play both sides; justice and black "predijuce". Sorry they don't mix. Malcolm X had to disown that garbage.
What question is Hillary even answering? The question wasn't even put to her and she sounded real desperate at her attempt in interjecting and clarifying that she didn't just denounce anti-semetic support, she rejected it. She needs a dictionary. Love Barrack's response tho.
Its just a campaign to separate the voters. which will end up backfiring when the race for the white house starts... Hillary is what she alway is....dirty and decitiful. Which means she would make a excellent vice prez. or set. of state.
A very valid, realistic point not made yet was the fact that of all the people that vote, Jews are probably amongst the highest sector of voters. How many "hip hop" heads vote? Most people that follow Farrakhan's radical view points are the same people that dont even believe in American politics. So they dont vote. When your trying to win votes over you have to look at who comes out to vote and try to please some of them. Im not sure this has anything to do with it but it may.
Farrakhan has the same rap for years and nothing changed.
Taliking about jews how has that helped black america?
Looking a messiah look to yourself and work hard and have ethics.
stop asking for handouts.
Listen simple minded...."devils" was a reference to mischief makers that are trying to divide and conquer...not a color. There are black, brown, white, red, and yellow "devils"...it's a mentality..not a race of people....relax.
NO EXCATLY THE WORD "DEVIL" DESCRIBES THE WHITE MAN PERFECTLY. ASK YOURSELF. WAT IS A DEVIL? AND WAT WHITE MAN DOESNT FIT THE PICTURE. A DEVIL IS A SAVAGE A PERSON WIT NO MORALS. AKA THE WHITE MAN. CHECK YA HISTORY IF U DONT BELIEVE ME.
Hillary, Hillary, Hillary...
Why must u keep smackin urself in the face with tha constant attempts at bashin' Obama? U just sound like ur cryin cause ur losin and he's too much more intelligent than you...Sorry!
What I want to know is why the hell does it matter if bad people support a candidate? Hillary is just as stupid as I thought, I bet she two faced the anti-semites saying she was denouncing it in public but made sure to keep those votes. Hell Im a Jew but the truth is free speech and the ability to vote are rights that we fortunately have, and if somebody wants to vote for Barak who hates Jews why should that influence a Jew's vote. Anybody who bases his or her vote on another person's shouldnt be allowed to vote, however if Farrakhan had been a large donator or campaign manager that would be a different story, cuz if that had been the case then there would be a definite chance that Barak would repay a favor after he would win (im not saying he would but politicians are politicians and favors happen to be what politicians do). Even that neo-nazi march planned for Skokie was completely within their right. Thats why a jew defended them in court. The court's ruling was right. I hate those prejudiced filled ignorant bastards but thats their right (but if they did anything illegal during the march they shouldve been punished to the full extent of the law, and if I was there while one got arrested I wouldnt laugh but pity his ignorant @ss). So to conclude it shouldnt matter if a controversial figure openly supports a candidate because if they are a citizen they can vote for anyone they want and instead of seperating yourself from them vote for the same person and unite eachother under what, in my opinion, is the most effective governmental systems in the world. (Ideally communism is the best but humans arent robots so the most practical is our democratic republic). The beauty of America is that people from opposite sides of a spectrum can be the most alike.
Everybody on here making negative comments about Farrakhan don't know what the hell y'all talking about. You haven't heard the man speak. You don't know his philosophy. Shut the fuck up and educate yourself and stop believing what you read. The comments he "supposedly" made about Jews, which were taking out of context, were over 20 years ago. You stupid ass niggas. And if you had any true understanding of the role that Jews play in world politics and economics, you would understand why someone would say something about them.
That being said, I applaud Obama for not falling for them punk ass tricks and not speaking his mind in public. Since when do we speak our mind to these white muthafuckas in public anyway? They don't to us and vice versa. He handled it intelligently. For all I know he may pop a bottle with Farrakhan behind closed doors if he wins the election.
Oh enlightened one please do enlighten the rest of us. What role do Jews play? Oh you mean they were the first monotheistic religion and although christianity branched off of Judaism, Christians still oppressed the jews. Even before the atrocity of the American slave trade, which was one of the most evil things to happen in the world, Jews were persecuted. Part of the reason that jews are generalized as greedy and in love with money (and by the way who truthfully hates money?) is because one of the only careers that a jew could have during the middle ages was a loan shark. At one point in time have jews not been persecuted or at least the victims of unfair prejudices. Truthfully the only countries that dont have widespread anti-semitism are Israel (because the majority of its population is Jewish as is the government) and America. And why exactly would you completely generalize a group of people in the first place. Not every white person is evil, actually most probably arent and the same goes for every group of people. You call yourself enlightened but a true enlightened person would not spew out a bunch of conspiracies and hate. That light, that spiritual elevation which results in the pursuit and achieving of knowledge should bring you a more heavenly frame of mind. Do you honestly think that there is hate and conflict in heaven? because if there is then it really isnt eternal paradise. So before you go about using powerful adjectives like enlightened to describe yourself maybe you should think about whether or not you should really classify yourself as an enlightened person. And just so you dont interpret this post wrong im not calling you stupid but it seems that your point of view is ignorant, and i dont see myself as enlightened but i do feel the need to correct your false facts and misconceptions.
P.S. The Jews played a role in the civil rights movement themselves, because they understood how awful persecution felt, they truly empathized because it had happened to them before. A more famous Jew in the civil rights movement was Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel. Maybe you should really enlighten yourself and obtain knowledge of the subject you speak on, in this case particularly your perception of the role of Jews throughout the world now and i can only assume in the past also.
