Consequence: Good News, Bad News

Alright we’re back! When we last left off I explained how we shot the video for the skit “Yo Dex”. We’re now up to the last & final video skit entitled “Good News, Bad News”. This skit concludes the storyline to “Don’t Quit Your Day Job” and is sonically attached to “Who Knew My Luck Would Change” (which we will be shooting a video for this summer)

As you’ll be able to see in the video, a visibly dejected “Dex”, comes home from work and has some “good news” & “bad news” to tell his “Mom”. So they sit down at the table and “Dex” confesses that he quit his job. “Mom” immediately explodes and expresses her disappointment. But “Dex” attempts to convince her that his dream of becoming a signed recording artist is upon the horizon. Of course without concrete evidence “Mom” does not agree and feels that her son shouldn’t take that leap of faith without a backup plan which is a JOB.

One of the messages I was trying to get across with the album is that when you grow up in a single parent home your mother has to be your mother & your father at times. I would like to give a shout out to my mom Wanda C. Mills who was the inspiration for the skits on the album. There were times when she put me through it but has always supported & believed in my dream.

With that being said please enjoy the video for “Good News, Bad News” and if you’ve ever had to “break the news” to your mother after you watch this give her a call and tell her you love her.

  • Listen unlike you people here BSing the dude I am not going to do it..

    Can he rap?

Obviously dude is nice, but this is the ignorant era in rap where real music gets no love, unless you have some gimmick or silly image to go with it....

Believe it or not, i bought dudes album, but my advice to him, is to have a back up plan because it is not looking good for dude...

Forget that, find a real job and do music as a hobby, because nobody care about conscious music...

If he can stay in a studio writing all day and flippidy flop, he can spend time writing essays and getting a degree and do something with his life...

Hey dude flop and flopped hard, real hard, I mean like nobody but me and him bought the album....

Godspeed with your new career, Dude take my advice or at least try to scrape some money and invest in real estate or something but Consequence era has passed

  • i disagree gerold, just because one cannot get rich with said "concsious" rap does not mean he cant earn a decent living. why shouldnt he do something he loves that pays his bills?..As long as people like me(confess i havent bought the album yet, but i def will once my financial limitations are no longer an issue) and you support good music then people like him will be straight..i appreciate cons music. if he told me "hey i aint makin no music no more cuz i cant get rich and my videos aint on 106npark", i would feel jipped.

  • furthermore, i for one believe that real hip hop will one day be as big if not bigger than it was in the past. you cant just say the era passed so fuck it..bullshit ringtone rap will pass..even dumb people who listen to dumb music can only take so much. the companies will keep feeding it to them until its not poppin no more, simple as that. i may be a foolhardy optimist but fuck that, the universe always balances itself out

Real hip hop will never go commercial again its a wrap (pun intended), and like the real pun rap is dead...

Consequence my dude, investig is the way to go....

Look at Lupe's album all th eexposure could not cushion that flippidy flop....

Kanye wells because he is a an arrogant gimmick, no one loves him just for his music, his image preceeds him...

Consequence just does music, and does not have an image or nothing to market. Welcome to the new era where music is everything and music well it comes after...

Common is the only true emcee selling and that is because Kanye was there chatting off how his production is do tight it has to be a classic...

Consequence dude he left you alone with your ball in your hands after he rippe doff yuh whole style...

Invest my friend scrape soem money and invest...

    Godspeed

  • Consequence,

I've only heard one song from you new album, "Dont Forget'em", I think its a classic though very short in length.

I think if you focus on your marketing for your CD, your numbers will increase significantly. Push for some shows while you have a hot buzz, hit some music festivals, venues, college campuses(best option),and dont stop touring, U.K. will appreciate you the most. Your music along with Common, Kanye, and Rhymefest is basically college level music, this should be your core market to target. It's now up to the artist to bring back the original flavor of hip hop.

Gerold, your such a critic, wont you become a marketing analyst and be more positive helping with your negative feedback.

  • gerold is a great example of how this era of materialistic hiphop can take an umpressionable young brain and turn it to mush. cons is making more money than you are greeting at old navy and he's doing what he loves. maybe he isn't chasing the things you are. maybe he's happy.

P.S. bornasalefty I majored in marketing in undergrad, but choose a different career path. i was not quite fulfilling and the offers weren't great so I choose a different carrer path.

  • even though what gerold is saying is a little harsh it is a reality......

all the stuff he said about the marketplace is correct...there is a "total package" being sought by the industry and if you don't have it then you are in trouble.....

If he doesn't have a degree or investments lined up it would be a great idea to do so....but if he is from the Tribe era if he don't have that in place by now IT'S A WRAP!

WHY DO ALL OF THESE YUNG PUNKS TRY TO ACT LIKE RAP HASN'T ALWAYS BEENA BOUT MATERIALISM......RESEARCH ANYBODY OUTSIDE OF TRIBE, XCLAN, DE LA OR POOR RIGHTOUS TEACHERS AND YOU WILL SEE...

everybody had the truck jewelry, wanted benzs and saabs and all that shyt....STOP WIT THE FRONTIN!!

  • First off, Gerod! Buy the F'in album, and just get off telling ma'fuckas to give up their dream, what kind of bullshit is that, to tell a ma'fucka to hang it up because he "flippity flopped." If you don't like the shit just say "hey I don't like the shit" and I'm not the one to use the "hate" word when a ma'fucka dont' like shit, I tend to quote common in such instances "if I don't like I don't like it, it don't mean that I'm hating" but son, you fucking hating, hard, flippity flop flop hard. No bullshit, Quence's album was dope, unfortunately for him, his situation w/ Columbia and Good Music fell apart as to why no promo, no solid release date, no pub. I don't think it was because the album was wack, because the shit was dope to me. A solid 3 and half mics (L in xxl) IMO. But for you son, just get of the hater shit, you want to tell ma'fuckas to hang it up, there's plenty folks in the south and the east that need to hang the shit up way ahead of Quence. Don't quit your day job Gerold!

  • First of all, consequence looks like the cross between and grasshopper and a cockroach. With all this gimmicky Dex shit, he needs to keep his day job. Gerold is absolutely right. No need to sugarcoat this failure of a flopper. 7,000 albums in the first week? I could sell 7k out of my right hand while jerking of with my left in my sleep. This corny ass consequence flopped harder than a fifth string bball center trying to draw a charge. He needs to invest in real estate like I do and do some research on other business opportunities. The rap game is not his game. The flop game is his game. He needs to fix his jackrabbit teeth by the way.

  • Consequence, please give it up man. I could pay you to cover your advance and I am not in the rap game. One of my business partners is a dentist, she can help you fix your teeth. Your are irrelevant to the rap game. If you are good at what you do, you will sell records. That's like a Toyota, it sells a lot because people like it and it is a good car all around. You on the other hand, are the sorriest excuse for a flopper. Oh sorry, I meant rapper. Go get a job as a hype man for the circus. Or better yet, if they lock you up in a cage and throw in some bananas, lots of people will come to see you and then you will make money. Got my drift. Hang it up son.
