With this being my first blog entry , I wanted to talk about my new single “Don’t Forget’Em” and the of making this video. It’s funny how I actually landed on “Don’t Forget’Em”. I recorded this record in late 2005 at Chung King Studios in Lower Manhattan. This was one of the few times me & Kanye were in the studio together while I recorded this album. So check it, we’re in the studio right,I’m supercharged to get a few records finished. You’ve gotta understand, me & Kanye are mad tight but I understand he’s one the biggest producers in the game so I try to take full advantage of having him involved in my project (It’s Business). So we’re in the studio going through beats and one of my guys who will remain anonymous had his girl in the studio. Son when I tell you they were illin’ man these 2 maf*ckers were dry humping, kissing and all sorts of dumb shit. I’m looking like,”Hello I have an album to finish! Could you guys go get a hotelroom”.

In the midst of this distraction Kanye started messing around with this flute sample that caught my attention. I told him,”That sounds kinda crazy”.He put the drums and bassline to it. From there it went from a recording session to everybody just kickin it. By 11:30 pm everyone had cleared out and my homie BPZY had stopped by .So after we laughed about what had gone on in the session I had the engineer pull up the “flute” beat.I began really vibing to the beat and had started humming the chorus saying,”WHEN YOU MAKE THAT MONEY BOY,THEY SAY DON’T YOU FORGET’EM”. I ran in the booth and immediately recorded the chorus. From there I proceeded to get on the mic and finished the recording the of this song in 40 minutes.40 minutes and you get your 2nd single, not a bad days work. I guess I was so pissed off about what happened earlier in the session that once I had the studio to myself I just went beserk.

Fast forward a year and we’re in January 2007. I had just released the video for the 1st single “Callin Me”. I love that video but the record itself was having a hard time at radio. With that being said Kanye and I both agreed that we would have to go with another record sooner than later. So Kanye suggested that we do a video for a record on my album entitled “Uptown” with good reason. This record had appeared on DJ Clue’s “Professional 3”.Ebro from Hot 97 liked the record alot and it was a joint we all felt New York needed and would embrace. So we reached out to Bernard Gourley who had shot the video for the “Grammy Family” to shoot “Uptown”. So we get a treatment for the video, a shoot date ,the whole nine yards but something inside of me kept saying what about “Don’t Forget’Em”. The thing was if this would be my last shot what message would I truly want to give to people. I love “Uptown” but at the time the video itself would have had similar ingredients to “Callin Me” (A beautiful girl,a hot car, me “Fresh 2 Death” well that’s all my videos Lol). So I talked to my A&R team (Kawan “KP” Prather, Guy Routte and Chad Elliot) and we were all in agreement that “Don’t Forget’Em” would speak to more people as whole. So I called Susan Linss (President of G.O.O..D. Films) and told I was having second thoughts about “Uptown” and was considering shooting “Don’t Forget’Em”. So after talking it over with all parties involved we swapped songs.

From there Bernard & I began to flush out ideas. Bernard suggested a cool idea in which we would depict the New York City skyline from a rooftop and show “unforgettable” images interacting with my performance shots in a 360 degree angle. We knew it would be challenging but if executed correctly, it would be amazing. So here it is my new single & video “Don’t Forget’Em”.

  • I'm a fan of real hip-hop and I'm str8 from over-east Chi. I've also been a fan of Cons for a while. Obviously I'm down with the Good Music Movement. But since ur from the Chi, why not shoot more videos in the Ill State. I got love for NY, LA, ATL, and many other major cities, but I'm in-love with the Chi! We have the BEST skyline anyway! Besides, I don't see any NY rappers filming videos in Chi. Whassup with that???
