Consequence: Guess What, Guess What!?!

I figured since we went through the process of shooting the video for my new single “Don’t Forget’Em” in the previous blog that we should talk about what it took to shoot the videos for the skits on my album. The first one that we shot is called “Guess What”. It is the first skit on my album and is sonically attached to the end of “Job Song”.

The motivation behind shooting these videos is this. With Sony not making a strong promotional or marketing commitment to this project I knew that it would call for me to “step it up” on all fronts. So I brainstormed to myself on ideas that would make a meaningful impact without draining my pocket. I figured if I could make little dope videos out of the skits they would show another side of my personality that a consumer may not directly get from a record. In addition they would add another dimension of promotional depth to getting the word out about “Don’t Quit Your DayJob”.

So I was up at the label and I ran into a friend of mine who worked in video named Mike Gordon. We became cool from seeing each other in passing at the office. I would show him things I had shot (video wise) with (the Director) Scenario (Scarred 4 Life , Pay 4 Your Flight ,etc.) I talked to Mike about shooting the skits and he wanted in on them immediately. He suggested we use “The People’s D.P.” Cliff Charles to actual shoot them and he & I would co-direct.

It was very important that the setting be correct for the “Guess What” skit. With this being the first one people would see it would set the tone for how we rolled out the rest. So I made a few calls and eventually talked to my homegirl Winter Ramos. Her peoples had a spot Uptown which fit the mode for what I saw being the home of “Dexter & his moms”. I made arrangements with them to shoot 1st week of February. It was equally important to me who portrayed the mom character. The actual voice of the mom on the album is Dr. Frankie E. Martin who lives in Maryland. She wasn’t available to make it up for the shoot so I reached out to Millicient who was the casting director for “Don’t Forget’Em”. She sent me pictures of about 12 different women she thought would be a good fit for the mom character. After mulling it over for 2 days I decided to use Angela Santana. I liked her look because she kinda looks like a cross between my real mom and Frankie Martin.

The day of the shoot I was running around like crazy because I wanted the skits to come off very detailed. If you notice you’ll see I walk in the crib holding a newspaper & teacup the same way “The Cons” (my character logo) does on the album cover. Also I felt the need to pull 2 Capri Suns out of the fridge because that’s a lot of people’s favorite quote from the album . Angela did a great job lip synching the lines and acting out the emotions of the mom character. Shout out to Sadia Morrison and the crew for helping me put together the looks for the each skit. The suede jacket I have on is from Paul & Shark who have supported the project in every way possible.

The final touch that was put on all of these skits was the inclusion of “The Cons” character. I thought it would be dope to have him introduce them and drop the slate as if he was the director. Shout out to Chris “Broadway” Romero who did the animation for the skits as well as for “Callin Me”. I also have to shout out Jean Labourdette who is the original illustrator of my logo.

I hope you all enjoy “Guess What”. Do remember “Don’t Quit Your DayJob” is in stores right NOW. We’ll talk soon!

Peace

to the cat who broke it down as to where he comes from..thanks...they brings a lil more clarity to the situation....but still....even though I've bumped every vintage tribe album I still NEVER KNEW WHO HE WAS OR EVER SAW HIS FACE....I don't recall seeing him or either or their videos...however he does look a lil like Ali Shaheed Muhamed

P.S.

We will battle and beat any of you nutt riders as well as your favorite rapper when it comes down to it.....THE INVITATION IS ALWAYS OPEN

THE "REAL" PART OF MY COMMENT WAS NOT A SLIGHT TO CONSEQUENCE.....

TRICK BIATCHES!!!

@ ScottiePimpin
It doesn't matter if you have heard of Cons or not, maybe if you would have reworded your statment "the hate" as you call it wouldn't have come out. Although Consequence gained a small following by guest starring on albums, he sold a few records by actually being good at what he does. Right now your group sounds like ya'll need another single, that joint is Wack and Trash! Wack and Trash!

Scottie pimpn is a joke cons is tha man but tha take em 2 tha cleaners was hotter

THE INVITATION IS ALWAYS OPEN!

Is he related to Ali Shaheed Muhamed?.....they have a resemblance...
