I just want to state for the record that I don't have a problem with Southern Hip Hop artists gaining national attention and making money. However it does seem that a lot of Southern Hip Hop artists are lacking in the creativity department. It's the same recycled topics over and over, girls, cars, candy paint, money. Learn to say something positive, give kids who are buying your music something that makes them think or inspires them. I think the rise of Southern Hip Hop over the past few years and artists from other areas trying to emulate and cater to the South (mainly because that is what's selling) has downgraded Hip Hop. As far as record sales goes, the rise of the internet has caused diminishing sales, but in my opinion, good music will always sell. You want to be a platinum artist? put forth a quality album, be creative, be lyrical, make the listener rewind your verse or listen to it repeatidly because what you said was slick. No one will buy your album if you put out one party record where you chant 2 or 3 words over and overon the hook.

My take on it is who are we to tell people to stop making music? I can't even front, outside of a handful of people like TI and Luda, I'm not feeling the music from the South. I just want to state for the record that I don't have a problem with Southern Hip Hop artists gaining national attention and making money. However it does seem that a lot of Southern Hip Hop artists are lacking in the creativity department. It's the same recycled topics over and over, girls, cars, candy paint, money. Learn to say something positive, give kids who are buying your music something that makes them think or inspires them. I think the rise of Southern Hip Hop over the past few years and artists from other areas trying to emulate and cater to the South (mainly because that is what's selling) has downgraded Hip Hop. As far as record sales goes, the rise of the internet has caused diminishing sales, but in my opinion, good music will always sell. You want to be a platinum artist? put forth a quality album, be creative, be lyrical, make the listener rewind your verse or listen to it repeatidly because what you said was slick. No one will buy your album if you put out one party record where you chant 2 or 3 words over and overon the hook.

I never said East Coast artists don't put out garbage music. I agree with you about Chicken Noodle Soup, Lip Gloss, etc being horrible. But those songs are heavily influenced by the South.
