My favorite track is "On my side." It explains a lot of the political views going on around me and in the neighborhood and what I see.
As I say,
"The sun don't shine on my side, a lot of crime on my side, there's more funerals than weddings, less books than weapons, life is hell, so where is heaven,"
That was always a question I ask myself like 'yo, we on Earth, but this feels like Hell.' For real because there are a lot of bad things going on like police brutality.
My skin color, it's a gift but a curse at the same time. I love it nonetheless, but people got stereotypes of you and act different. And again, I apologize to my ancestors on that song for using the word "nigga". That line is very powerful because, I said...
"Ancestors, forgive us for using the word nigga so freely / I defined it different so they can't use it against me."
It means a lot to me because our ancestors really feel like the word nigga is a taboo. I use the word nigga as a man, as in, "Yo, my nigga, what's good?" I just let them know it's not used in vain, and also it deals with the issue how people look at you, saying, "You're lazy, you're on welfare."
The fact of the matter is some people need these programs to survive, just because the way the government is set up. Not everybody was born with a silver spoon. Some people live in the projects, in the roach infested, rat infested houses. There's a lot of issues I touch and it's like a reality check for everybody. It's just not a one sided song.
