The next album we will we reviewing is Kim's third effort, "La Bella Mafia". This was a highly anticipated release from Kim to not only Kim's fans, but the industry as whole after what was widely considered a let down with "The Notorious KIM". For the most part, the streets and the industry was impressed. Lil' Kim went back to her roots, so to speak, and got back in touch with the streets.

My Favorite Track...

My favorite track is "On my side." It explains a lot of the political views going on around me and in the neighborhood and what I see.

As I say,

"The sun don't shine on my side, a lot of crime on my side, there's more funerals than weddings, less books than weapons, life is hell, so where is heaven,"

That was always a question I ask myself like 'yo, we on Earth, but this feels like Hell.' For real because there are a lot of bad things going on like police brutality.

Bun B's Live Show In Houston

BunonMicBLOG.jpg

Last week Bun rocked a show in his home town of Houston at Club Konnections. Peep these flicks of the action:

(ed note: SOHH,com wrote about the shooting this week. Read the background info here.)

We got in the club like we weren't going there to party because we already know in the hood anything can happen. That's how we think- anytime we go out anything can happen in these situations. We got in the club and everybody was in the club dancing. We played a couple of songs off the mixtape, played a couple joints off the album and what not.

No more than a half an hour after being in the club we just heard shots.

Album Review: The Notorious KIM

Today we'll touch on Kim's long awaited sophomore effort, 'The Notorious KIM'. This should have been the album to launch Kim's career into the stratosphere, but due to bad decisions and no label support, it lost steem pretty quick. A lot of fans brush this album off as fluff, something designed for pop radio, but they don't understand the importance of appealing to the masses as well. Sure, Kim could have released Hard Core Pt 2, but at that time in music, gangsta rap was not in the forefront. Music was being dominated by the Puff Daddy's and the Nelly's and the Eminem's, radio friendly music is what you needed to maintain a successful career.

"Hard Core" came out when there was a desperate need for sexiness in the rap world. Although Kim was not the first female rapper to reach platinum status, she was the first to do it being a lady. Unlike other female rappers with all male crews, Kim shined without having to "kick it like the fellas". This album still stands out as her best to date. Although others come close, this is still Kim's greatest work.

How Bang 'Em and Domination Hooked Up

Me and Bang ‘Em knew each other for over 10 years. People got it confused. They think we hooked up through music, but we hooked up through friends first.

A lot of people think we are the ones igniting this fire, but actually, a lot of things took place and we’re pointing the finger at them.

If I had my choice, I rather not talk about them because I got skills, but the beef with G-Unit started when 50 and Smurf had a record label together called Hallow Point Entertainment. Hallow Point Entertainment, the CD they had sold 500,00 records, so that was 325,000 dollars Smurf had up in the air, because he had some of that company and 50 never gave it to him and Smurf was locked for the same charges he’s in on now. His bail was 75,000. 50 didn’t want to put up the money. Ya know, 50 didn’t have to put up his own money. He could have put up Smurf’s money and he felt that Smurf wasn’t good enough for the money, so from then on, we have had shallow feelings.

The nominations for this years Vibe Awards have been announced and the one and only Queen Bee has been nominated for Album of the Year. Other nominees for album of the year are "Get Lifted" by John Legend, "Late Registration" by Kanye West, "The Documentary" by The Game, and "The Emancipation of Mimi" by Mariah Carey. What's Beef? Lil' Kim vs 50 Cent

The bad blood continues between Lil’ Kim and 50 Cent. Though the rappers paired up for the 2003 smash “Magic Stick,” the relationship between the two quickly disintegrated, and 50 Cent dissed Lil’ Kim in performances. In a recent interview with The Associated Press â€" before she entered federal detention center to serve a year-and-a-day sentence for perjury â€" Lil’ Kim made it clear there would be no duets in the future between the two.

The album is self explanatory, never take anything for granted because I never take anything for granted. Here today and gone tomorrow. You could have a million now and be broke next week. Vice Versa. You could be down on your luck and God could pull you out of that, so I count my blessings everyday.

Lil Kim's "The Jump Off" Video

"The Jump Off" is the first and only video released from Kim's 3rd CD 'La Bella Mafia'. A video was shot for "Came Back For You" but was never released to video networks. Kim felt that Atlantic Records was not supporting her as they should, and she felt that she would allow us to see how well her CD could actually do with only one video. It worked, as she went platinum based on one official single.

How Many Licks Does It Take?

"How Many Licks" is the second single from Kim's sophmore album 'Notorious K.I.M.'. The single was actually voted on by fans on Kim's official website and was released mid-August of 2000. Sisqo was featured on the song, but unfortunately due to label disagreements involving Def Soul, he was not allowed to appear in the video, so Kim had to go solo.

"No Matter What They Say" was the first video from Kim's long-awaited second release "Notorious K.I.M.". This was not the first version of the song however, as it was originally called "Bad Girls" featuring Ru Paul and only the first verse made it to the final version due to bootlegging.

Lil' Kim's "Ladies Night" Video

The "Ladies Night" video was shot for the 'Nothing To Lose' soundtrack. The song was a remix to "Not Tonight" from 'Hard Core' and was the first and only all female cut that Lil' Kim released. It was also Kim's first and only platinum record for a single, which was a huge boost for her career.

"Crush On You" was the second video released from Kim's multi-platinum debut 'Hard Core'. It was the last song recorded for her CD, and ended up just featuring Lil' Cease on the album. Kim took some time off in the last 2 weeks of recording for "personal reasons" and they wanted it as a single, so Cease did it, Kim came in for the remix.
