The female rapper has been told over and over that their music doesn’t sell. Now I have to keep it 100 on this one. I think that’s Bullshit. I know there are countless amounts of stats that back it up. But the one stat that isn’t on the table is perspective. You see I think the perspective of how the industry tries to market female rappers is the wackest sh*t ever.
First let’s go with the typical. Everywoman in her own right is sexy. But does this mean that the only way to market a woman is through sex. And then once they make that move like Lil Kim and push the envelope then what. The minute they request anytype of respect we tear them down more. Lets use Jackie O for example. Now I really don’t care who she screwed and why Jackie O has talent. I know she doesn’t mind being sexy and that’s real cool but at the end of the day when you listen to everything she puts out mainstream it’s sexual. And I’m sure this is not by choice. What makes her not put her deep songs out there. She has other topics to discuss but why does she keep pushing her sex appeal? Here’s her latest. I know I know, some of you who run from the word Baby Moma are pissed. But at the end of the day she is keeping it 100. It’s only natural for a woman to want to get married and have children. So why act like just because she is saying baby moma that shes not touching a real topic about women wanting to take the next step in life, “family”.
So what would seem to be the opposite end of what Jackie O displays is a natural woman. Plane Jane has some words to say.
One more from Jane just to flaut here calmness. I bet your mother couldn’t hold you in on arm and spit a sweet 16.
The perfect combination of respect and sexy. None other than Mia-x. I hear Mia is coming back in 09 just to show how the lady’s can be respected for there wisdom and admired for their sex appeal.
This next vid shows ms. Nina Brown. This is what you are holding back. When you look at her in this laid back home setting ask yourself why can’t u see more of this. What’s the big deal with this industry having tons of education but you still saying women don’t sell. Something aint right. These dudes lying to ya face love.

I have actually made a 360 degree turn on how I will handle most of my industry beliefs. I’ll show you better than I can tell you. But until then please express what you think about this industry Myth.
With all the Black Men that take the credit for being the best and brightest in the American Music scene. You think at least one would have the passion to make it their goal to see a few successful young positive ladies on the charts. And not just one or once, I’m talking change the game. You suppose to be great and you can’t market the very thing that gave you life. That’s sad. But you want me to respect your punk ass.
Could it be that a lot of these Industry cats are really undercover booty brothers. Now if you listen to your black women like I do then you know that gay men treat women like shit. It is what it is. Most of these rich nggas who beat there women and dog them out do it because they are insecure bitches themselves. That shit aint tuff ngga. Yousa Bitch at the end of the day hating on a women. Could this be translating into industry politics, blackballin, etc. And the women who they tend to push are usually lesbians. And I’m not knockin either. Do what you do with your private life. Right now I’m talking about behaivior patterns of these faggots. You got women all around you to prove you aint gay. But you can’t even market one female rapper without here saying the word pussy in her rap. I could go further with this and shake up the whole industry but I rather know what you think?

just wanna say this; most of the time, since the buisness of entertainment is much more money oreintated then any other, alot of female MC'S will sex up thier image to sell records and make money, even if they are representing images about women that they dont totally stand behind or comprimising values that they have. I come from the Foxy and Kim era, and yes they were successsful- they were pioneers of the sexy MC era and worked for them, but they also had dope songs and lyrics to go with what they were putting out image wise Eve too. My favorite female MC of the new mellinium hands down is Remy Ma. She by far is the best female that does it for me. Unfortuantely she got the short end of the stick and we wont be hearing from her in a while, but we just need a female MC who isnt afraid to take chances, be themselves and try not to go against rapping about what they feel is right. If you continue to go against what people think you should be, eventually people will listen. Just ask Kan the Louie Vuitton Don.
Yes, you are correct. The problem is you have gay men with their own sexual insecurities (since many of them are "living life on the downlow") making the decisions and they have no idea how to effectively market a female rapper. The only image they feel would penetrate the market is overt sexuality and it's because they have NOTHING in common with real women and also feel sex is the only connection a man really has with women and that ideology stems from their mindset of women. I have stated your exact sentiments to my friends repeatedly and we all agree that this is the underlying premise for the failure of female rappers to be successful - down low executives either devising failed strategies or impeding their progress due to their own issues with women.
The other problem is female rappers need to treat their career as a BUSINESS and develop your brand. Perfect your craft and seek better beats and production. Yes, as women we are sexual and there's nothing wrong with a woman displaying her sexuality but we are multi-faceted individuals so you need to make records that appeal to the fans on all levels. Yes, we enjoy the bedroom but we don't LIVE in the bed. We're also leading households, aspiring in our careers, falling in and out of love/friendships, and loving life.
The media and the fans also have to respect that if a female makes a sexual song, that doesn't mean that's all she represents. Give her a chance to reflect all of her experiences and stop stereotyping female rappers because of a few songs. If Jay-Z can talk about money/women/cars and still make a song that delves into his psyche and be respected, why can't Lil Kim? Don't be naive' to believe that "Gettin Some Head" was the only topic Shawnna rapped about on her album. Salt & Pepa rapped about "I'll Take Your Man" but they also did "Express Yourself" and they were allowed to do BOTH. The fans (especially female fans since we purchase most of the music) need to learn to support the ladies...
You people are hilarious. The reason why no one wants to hear female rappers are because men don't even want to hear woman talk have the time. Chris Rock said it best when he said the best way to a man's heart is food, sex and silence. So why would anybody buy an album of a female running her mouth. Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. I can't bump a eve, queen latifah, lil kim, foxy brown or anything in my car cause they only talk about what woman care about. Now La Chat, she will be in my top 10 forever. Buy her album to wash away the misconceptions. Next you all will be calling Missy Elliot and TLC rappers LMAO.

This was an interesting post. The comments were equally interesting. I am a female Hip Hop Artist who gets love from damn near everyone who hears me (there was this one guy - it was funny to me..LMAO).
I agree with one post that said in order to make it you gotta keep creating songs based on what is important to you. I do that and it works for me. Nine times outta ten my male peers and fans alike appreciate my subject matter. So, to me its only a matter of time. In the interim, I strive to make great music but before and above all be true to myself, my craft and talent.
This was a really cool blog..keep up the good work...we'll get there :)

Wait, so let me get this straight...........Female rappers don't get any success because the men executives in the industry are down low fags??? really? So its not cuz they suck? Its not cuz women are supposed to be feminine and female rappers are far from feminine? In fact they are more like dudes. I don't care what no one says, Remy Ma has a dick. Str8 up.
REAL TALK..IT AINT THAT BITCHES CANT SELL BUT ALL THESE BITCHES IS HARDBODY WACK.. REAL FUCKIN TALK RITE NOW
DA ONLY FEMALE RAPPERS REALLY SPITTIN FIRE IS JEAN GRAE, FOXY BROWN, REMY MA & NICKI MINAJ .. TELL THE HOES U POSTED TO STEP IT DA FUCK UP..
"Its not cuz women are supposed to be feminine and female rappers are far from feminine?"
The fuck? What the hell do you mean "supposed to be feminine"? Who the fuck are you to tell women how the hell they're "supposed" to act? What are you, intimidated by aggressive women? That's the problem with a lot of men; they expect females to be submissive and "ladylike" and conform to what men think they should act like instead of letting them do their own thing. What the hell is "ladylike" anyway? "Feminine"? High heels, lipstick, perfect everything at all times, mouth shut for your viewing pleasure, open wide for your other pleasures? Let me tell you what being a woman means: it means being physically able to carry a child to term and nursing said child to maturity. Everything else that's "expected" of us has been pushed onto us by the male gender since the beginning of time. So now that we're at an age of enlightenment in the year 2008, how about we act how we want to act without you ignorant fucks feeling intimidated and accusing us of being "men" as a result? As if strong, dominant, and assertive personality traits are exclusively male characteristics? Get the fuck out of here and take some courses to educate yourself.
And Flx, I'm feelin' this post but you can't go around saying you respect the lesbians and then turn around and toss words like "faggot" around.
"Most of these rich nggas who beat there women and dog them out do it because they are insecure bitches themselves. That shit aint tuff ngga. Yousa Bitch at the end of the day hating on a women."
The problem with the whole gay males being antagonistic towards women thing is that open gays are constantly being pressured by society to be "masculine", so they overkill it by treating women how they see heterosexual men around them as a whole treat women - like dirt - but x10000. Now, to the casual observer, you can just call them "insecure bitches", blame the plight of women in the industry on them, and leave it at that, but the fact that they view this as a means of fitting in just shines a light on the underlying problems of western patriarchal society as a whole. Men are expected to be aggressive and dominant, and if there's even a hint of one not trying to be the "alpha male", others will jump on him in a heartbeat. This is a huge problem, period, but it's intensified in the Black community for reasons too broad and numerous for me to get into in one setting. ASSUMING a lot of men high up in the industry are closeted gays, this ties in perfectly, but we are running on an assumption here, not proven fact. Really, these executives don't even have to be gay to fall victim to the pressures of patriarchal society.
Anyways, it's cool that you brought this up and I hope you keep going with this in your blog so I can finally have something constructive to read on here instead of just checking for new music and ignoring everything else. Peace.
All i got to say is Jean Grae.
Mia X and Foxy Brown need to make ah comeback, they were dope lyrically.
