Ugghhhh ( in E-40's voice) Let's kick it off like this. No need to state the obvious at this point. (In DJ Khaled's voice) "We the Best!"
Today the Dirty Awards are going down in the mighty ATL. As you may or may not know the Dirty Awards have been going strong for a couple years now. I'll have pics and such tomorrow. Here's a taste of what you missed last year. FABO!
Sometimes SOHH.com readers have the best comments in the world so what better than to include you in the blog. At least once a week I'll pull the best comments up and slaughter you myself or allow others that comment to do so or who knows, maybe your point will be so well positioned, all we'll be able to do is shut up. I feel like the trap has been laid for a balanced platform. That'll start this Friday.Until then. Lets talk Lil' Wayne, Andre 3000, T-Pain and Kanye West for a sec.
All of these artist have made and continue to make hip-hop the jazz of our generation. But do they get the credit from the ones that benefit from them expanding the genres reach. Everybody wants to talk sh*t on Wayne right now but do you realize where dude is about to take hip-hop and American Music. Lets start with 3000.
Andre's expanded hip-hop in his last works and it seems he is now not in the top ten when everybody talks about lyrics. How is it that the lyrical content is not considered now because he happens to know how to keep a tune. I love it when you bring up 3000's name in a lyricist conversation and they say " He don't count" lmao why the f*ck not! Cause he's better than you rapping or singing that's why not.
Kanye is expanding into electronica and such. Which people have a while to admit it but his lyrics really run circles around 90 percent of the game.
When experimenting in hip-hop, it's commonly known that hip-hop" will attempt to turn it's back on you, based upon how threatened it is when it's musical or financial capabilities or lack there of run out. How could you guys be so heartless?
Lil' Wayne is headed in a direction that you could see coming a mile away, all depending on your sight. Louisiana is the home of Jazz. Music is flowing from your palms the minute you touch the ground. We do have a few exceptions but for the most part, It's in our blood.
Rock N Roll is Black Music. The Media has stripped us of this knowledge because of the power of what the world would actually be like once we have total self knowledge. Anyway Lil Wayne after being welcomed then not welcomed in gangland now marches forward toward musical salvation. Once Wayne engages in this journey, will hip-hop turn its back? You think a lot of people would be glad because now you can actually make the hard core rap and not have Kanye, 3000, or Wayne to worry about being in your way. So where's the music? Everybody's talkin' sh*t. But where's the music. I'll tell you where it is. Everybody's in the studio right now trying to figure out what the hell they gonna come with for 2009 because Dre, Ye, and Wayne have completely inspired all of these people talking. You know how it is, you get a new love interest and what's the first thing your ole lady do is talk about your new love in a negative light 'til you come back. Point to my post. Ya'll love these brothas and their music. You just can't let the public know you love them because if you do, it would be one of the few times we actually showed class in hip-hop. But that my friend is not were we are, it's merely a wish of mine, Back to the WWF. I'm out.
P.S. What's gonna happen when this song is performed across the world! What does that say about Young Black America? Just asking? Calm Down? You first.

You should replace that Wayne interview with his new song "Hot Revolver" if you want to capture where he's going sonically.
I think Alternative Hip hop is heading toward this new "Heartbreak" sound. The term is actually gaining speed, I've heard and seen it in several media outlets online.

I dont giv a f**k what you say, Andre 3000's been breaking molds since AT Aliens, Kanye's on some emotional ish (moms died, girl left him, he hates himself) and Waynes drugged out so his thinkin is off anyways. Other than 3000 these other cats are forcing it. & Kanye Sucks Ass...
um...sorry but in case you haven't realized this, those people you just said are killing hip hop are actually the ones struggling to keep real hip hop alive (well except for lil wayne and t-pain) while it is getting murdered by this ringtone rap shit that only wacked out teeneage white folks like....shit

They are not killing hip hop. They just figured out what ISN'T selling and changed their sound to something that is. Do we really want someone still doing NEW YORK GUN TALK to be successful? Do we really want someone to be multiplatinum off recycled mid 90s DRUG RAP and subsequently be the face of hip hop? Sorry, but I'd much rather KANYE & . T-PAIN be the face of rap then a ex felon, a ex drug dealer or a former/fake pimp. Rap fans please get over your LOVE AFFAIR with the bad guy who made it nonsense (its so played out). SCARFACE the movie is like 25 years old. Get over it. The most famous black man in the world wears a suit to work, has a HARVARD law degree, and is married with children. Isnt it time to dismiss all the thug love?
I'm feeling this whole piece....Good shit!!! On point like a mutha fuc....
I don't blame these niggaz for doing something different because hip-hop has already been murdered by you shucking, jiving, ignorant, porch monkey, coons from the south. Black music used to have soul, grit, and feeling and you no-education having ass southern niggaz have managed to ruin the legacy of black music. When I turn on the radio I am embarrased by the wack southern-influenced garbage that I hear and you coons of the south have the nerve to stick up for this garbage. Whats really sad is most real black music originated in the south and you young southern idiots are too ignorant to have a since of education and pride about you history. If you took pride in the rich history of black music, you coons would never make the trash music that you do. FUCK THE SOUTH.
Hater, there was no need to start calling people from the South all of those racial names and pejoratives. I assume you're one of the people from New York wanting to hear nothing but NEW YORK GUN TALK GULLY GULLY GULLY.
I would rather see dancing than more rap about guns, but in reality, I would rather see some intelligent rap than what i've been seeing. That goes for EVERYONE
As for you, I believe that you, if you think that you can do this, GO MAKE AN ALBUM AND SEE IF IT EVEN CHARTS. Go on. If you make it big I'll wash your car.
T-Pain killin music, for real this nigga need to go, aint on no hatin shit but for real get this nigga T-Pain outta here. For real i'm fuckin sick of that nigga
These ppl sell and are the reason hip hop is dying? 3000 has always been original just alot of ppl don't realize it. Wayne with all his fault is still producing the hottest songs out there. IKanye really is distraught over his mom's dying and his music is taking a different direction because of it (listen to Put on when he first started using the vocalizer and listen to howe emotional he was on that song especially when he started talking about his mom). T-Pain I don't really consider hip hop but if other ppl can't sell during this time period then they need to start looking at themselves and as hip hop fans we should start forcing artist into making good music, rewarding good music (gasp actually buying a cd) and stop blaming hip hop decline on a particular region (north, south, west, etc.) and instead blame ourselves for not supporting our artist.
Come on folks. The fact is that some of the stuff these people are doing is simply not hip hop. We've gotten to the stage that because someone is black and raps a few bars we call him a hip hop artist? Or because he's released a couple of hip hop or rap albums every other work he puts out is hip hop?
i'm sick of you wack up north folks talking about the south killing hip hop. the south is bringing back the fun to the game. all you fake wanna be thugs keep talking that gun talk and drug is come on man hip hop is a mixture of all type of music back in the day kurtis blow and all them old school guys use to have fun and party and what not so now that the south is bringing all that back we killing hip hop get the F*** outta here. Dont get me wrong i like the gun talk and all that just as much as the next guy but seriously how many of them fools actually live the words they speak. here in the south we listen to everybodys music hell if it wasnt for us most them up north rappers wouldnt be rapping period. now i will say this i dont agree with all the ish that comes from my region and alot of the southern rappers do need to step their lyrics up but you cant say we killing the game. IF WE KILLING THE GAME DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.....
Yo 4real these niggaz is killin hip hop but u kno its wats gotta happen nothin last 4ever. the shit started in new york then the west coast had a lil reign themselves then the shit came back 2 new york and now its down south and has been there 4 a number of years now. much longer than the west coast was ever on top. its a shame actually growin up i was a big fan of the west coast shit dre snoop pac them niggaz is legends. but @ this point we r addin names like lil gayne plies kayne west 2 the legends list. like wat kind of shit is that these niggaz suck. and that trash down south rap aint takin hip hop nowhere but the morgue. u see im from philly and we got a poppin underground hip hop scene with niggaz like meek mill reed dollaz gillie da kid (the real lil gayne) n joey jihad. only problem with these niggaz is that the music is jus 2 negative the underground shit is wat we listen 2 2 hear that real street shit the gun bustin anthems and shit like that besides meek mill gettin signed 2 grand hustle (some old down south shit) none of them niggaz will ever stop hustlin on the street and rappin jus on the side. cuz u gotta hav wack lyrics use fake auto tune voices and hav a ringtone or dance beat 2 actually make it in this hip hop game nowadays. look @ soulja boy, how can he go platinum? shit beats me. lil gayne, the man is like 26 callin his 40 yr old ol head daddy n kissin him n thats jus wat the public knows.. i aint stupid like my man gillie said birdman molested that boy young buck say the same.. but still hip hop lets this slide he is still the "best rapper alive" and thats all that matters. LMAO get the fuck outta here. rick ross sell all the coke in dade county but he started out as a C.O. then he tried 2 lie about it?? but its all good. fuck these lame ass niggaz! KILLAdelphia PISTOLvania all day im out
What happened to SOHH Houston?
LIL KEKE IN STORES NOW!
Z_RO CRACK IN STORES NOW!
This post is nothing but an ill attempt to quell the overwhelming sentiment that some of these fools are literaly fucking hip hop up. Granted hip hop shouldn't be cornered into masochistic violence and mysoginy, but at the same time hip hop was built on trying to be the best lyrically. Even if you mixed some rock, jazz, country whatever what mattered was if you could spit some really ill shit. But now folks like lil wayne, soulja boy and even sadly kanye have found a way of duping society into thinking that the brilliance of their music is the lack of coherent messages or lyrics, and in a time when sales have plummited and everyone is so damn redundant it was easy to get kids to believe "love fucking lockdown" was a galactic triumph when in all honesty it was a shit sandwich of a track! And you dare to say that we wont admit that his lyrics are running circles around 90% of other rappers. This sort of dickriding is what drives kanye into thinking he's the next Elvis. If any young rapper out there should be called a moving voice it should be Lupe fiasco, he hasn't sold out by expanding to a degree where his regard for skill and lyricism were compromised like Kanye and Lil Wayne.
My point, stop making fucking excuses for these dudes and be real, there wont be a hip hop if kids keep thinking this fusion of rock and rap done in the worst way possible is what the future needs. A rapper with off the charts skills cant pay the motherfucking rent while some fucking moron going ape shit on a track about how miraculous he is without rhyming a single world has everything!
LISTEN UP. EVERYONE TALKS THAT SHIT ABOUT THE SOUTH. AND IM HERE TO TELL YOU ITS TRUE. THE SOUTH IS KILLING HIP HOP. BUT THERE NOT THE ONLY ONES. SURE THERE ADDING TO IT BUT EVEN DUDES FROM THE EAST ARE PUTTING OUT GARBAGE. PERFECT EXAMPLE BUSTA RHYMES WITH THAT ARAB MONEY. HOMEBOY CLAIMS THATS THE HOTTEST SONG OUT NOW. YEA REAL BANGER WITH HIS WEAK LYRICS A WACK BEAT AND A BLACK DUDE SCREAMIN SHIT THAT HE THINKS SOUNDS ARABIC. LMAO. THESE DUDE ARE DUCKS. AND ITS MOSTLY THE FANS FAULT FOR SUPPORTING THIS BULLSHIT. AND ARTISTS NEED TO STEP THEIR FUCKING GAME UP ASAP
Now this is some funny shit and for those that think all southern lyrics are trash I have to disagree. You have to really dig deep to find that good hot southern lyrical treatment of a true down south hustling G. I never see no one mention Kilo, from Georgia, who was putting down for years. You got the rally boys, DJ squeeky, so and so king pin skinny pimp. Damn the south is big and all of them aren't ignorant. When Andre 3000 met Erkah he start changing and this man can really, for surely flow so I hope he comes back very soon. Lil wayne used to be the shit and unless you have did drugs you don't understand how it changes your mentally especially when you are ignorant already. He just don't give a flying fuck. Then T-pain hey he told yall that he was in love with a stripper?! Need I say more. He made a song being in love with a stage hoe that will shake it for anyone and made a song about it. I just say get in where you fit in and if you don't like the bullshit that's coming out don't buy it.
Only nigga i respect from this list is my man andre 3k, he really get's busy on the mic n is a legend!
.wayne was nice on ct2, but ct3 sucked, let's face it!
it's hard 2 respect his lyrics when u used 2 niggas like BIG, Jigga, Pac, Pun, Face a.m.o....
.kanye is a real good producer, but his rap skill lacks!
.t-pain doin his thing, but he aint hip hop, so therefore i wouldnt bring him up in this conversation.
lookin 4ward for em's new shit!
Andre 3000 is the ONLY legit hip hop artist on this list. The rest of them mofo can go! Wayne: overrated, Kanye: crazy as hell, T-pain: come again!(is he really hip hop)...
i'm a suburban white boy, and why am i the only one that is going to throw out names such as mos def/kweli, 3k, ras kass, cee-lo, brother ali, etc when it comes to representing hip-hop? did any of you know that krs-one is still puttin shit down? do any of you know who krs-one is?
and for all you who think i'm being serious with that last question, calm down and get a grip. the next time you think about "who is the best" (to which an answer does/should not exist, but for the sake of this conversation we will say that it does), strip an artist's song of a beat and break down their lyrics--do those lyrics inspire you? or do they give you another way to talk about using a gun to extort drugs?
now you can brush off anything i say because i'm white and know nothing about the ghetto, the struggle of the black movement in america, or the regional slang of black people. but despite those things, artists like andre 3k have gotten through to me in a much deeper way than any other artist in any other genre has done so. it's not about saying you are better. it's not about actually BEING better. it's about articulating your ideas and life experiences in your own way regardless of how everyone else is doing it. try listening to somebody's words, and not their producer's rip-off 2pac hail mary beat, and maybe you will actually know what i'm trying to say. get some headphones, turn the bass all the way down on your system, and listen to slump, yellow lines, good daddy, one love, or beef, and see if you are changed or at least judged on a mental platform. be warned, in those songs no one is saying they have killed 8 people before laying their track, they haven't smoked 2 pounds of reefer today, aren't claiming to have sex with the first bitch to come their way, and they don't claim to have the biggest dick on their block. Who's the best? "i ain't for that fuck shit... so fuck this."
