What Do People Think Of Soulja Boy Now? Congrats To Ice Cube And Tony Draper, DJ Spotlight W/DJ Laz

I'm looking at a bunch of internet commentary on Soulja Boy meeting with KRS-One and I think its funny how a lot of people will be looking at Soulja Boy differently.
And its funny because I could imagine if you talk to one of the southern legends way back when they would've acknowledged Soulja Boy as Hip-Hop from the start. No ego and all the other bullsh*t that comes with these industry attitudes. We've been through all of the cycles at this point so the reception Soulja Boy received was reminiscent of the Geto Boys back in the day. Don't think so, go back and see what was said when they first came out. I guess that's why Scarface showed Soulja Boy love right here on SOHH.
Press play on the first video and turn the volume down all the way. Then press play on the "Whoop Rico" video and turn it up and watch the Breaking video but listen to the words of the youngsters. Now do the same thing vice versa. If you don't get the point then there's no hope and I know that's a lot of people. But at the end of the day if the peeps writing and talking about hip-hop of the world would cover all hip-hop from a fair and balanced level instead of just saying what the next person is saying. Then those kids who did "Chicken Noodle Soup" would have received a warmer welcome. I remember seeing that video saying damn that's tight. These kids coming with some new ish. But all I heard from the so called hip-hop representatives is ‘that bullsh*t aint hip-hop'. And then I felt bad for the young girl B because I knew that their movement was a strong kid movement being crushed by adults trying to keep it to real. So the next time you really feel like that ain't hip-hop. Then really think about what you putting in the air. Because all of this is hip-hop, it's what we do. I know you want everyone to be schooled on all the elements and I agree everyone should learn them for self-knowledge. But they won't even be interested if the first thing we do is talk sh*t about them while they're doing their thing. Just a thought for the weekend.

What up to our good friends over at 305hiphop.com. They did an interview with a DJ I think you all should see. DJ Laz is a Florida staple and has a new album in stores I think you should check out. Don't think this is nothing new for Laz, he's one of our pioneers down South here's a flash back to 1991. What was your DJ doing in '91?

And congrats to Tony Draper and Ice Cube. I know there are other people behind this movement but I just want to acknowledge the history that is being made. Raw Footage debuted #1 on Billboard's Rap and R&B Charts and #5 on the Top 200. Draper was the man behind 8ball and MJG in the early days. SuaveHouse is a legendary southern label. And back in the day before Internet, you got on the road and took your music town-to-town was the way to make it happen. The work has not changed yet only a few get on the road and make it happen. So for Draper to be leading Cube years later is a beautiful thing. I have no idea why both of these guys are not in every magazine, on every site, and TV channel more. Yes I do but who has that much time. Enjoy you weekend.

As I commented on another blog on this site, none of us are an authority to say what is or isn't hip-hop. Not even KRS-ONE, who publicly said that Kanye West's "Flashing Lights" wasn't hip-hop. So, many of y'all try to say what it is or isn't, but we're all speculators, students, and teachers, if you will. No one is rules the game in that they can impose limitations on what will and will not be accepted.
As KRS said, "If you were to rule or govern a certain industry. Everyone inside this room right now would be in misery. No one would get along nor sing a song cause everyone'd be singing for the king. Am I wrong?"

agreed. it's not that soulja boy ISNT hip hop, hes just BAD hip hop (to me).
It's Hip Hop but it's a weak form of Hip Hop
