SOHH when I posted the Ozone Awards yesterday I never would have thought the comments would have came out like this. I lie, I love it, I  f*ckin  love it.  Fame, TheSponsor, and therealjaydab today you three are my motivation. I feel like Jezzy on that Rocko "Umma Do Me Remix" Let's Go!

"THE SOUTH HAS ALWAYS STOOD FOR INDEPENDENCE?? REALLY? UR THE FU*CKIN WORST"

Posted by: fame | August 05, 2008 at 06:16 PM

Yes I am the worst person to give a blog because you might hear some sh*t you don't want to. Independence is what we have always stood for. You must have not been apart of the southern hip-hop movement back in the day when The Geto Boys put out We Can't Be Stopped. Go back and listen to the begining of that album.  And in this song pay close attention to the whole song but  zoom in at about 2:30

You see when I say independence, it's something every coast should want. Those people claiming to be the leaders of radio and TV have screwed with everyone for so long now, that everyone thinks the South run shit. No we don't, we run the South. And any problems getting your career jumped off should be directed to your own backyard. Maino doesn't have to worry about whether or not the South feeling him. There are millions of people in New York, so platinum status is right around the way. And then if we like it, bonus he might sell 2millie! Clyde Carson and Mista Fab don't care if the west coast is in or not. The foundation to sell hella units sits right there in those boarder states of Cali. The Midwest doesn't need the South's approval or any one else to jump start the next Ray Cash, J Kwon, or Nelly.

You see what's happening in the industry right now is the sh*t bout to hit the fan. And if you have an independent state of mind you straight. Look at Jim Jones and his movement, I'm loving that shit. You know why, because they didn't ask anybody they just did it. And Diplomat fans are everywhere. But it was the indie state of mind that let him know they didn't have to get any one's permission to do there own thing. So, when I say independence I say that with the intentions of wanting that for everyone. And the Bay area will always be the leaders of the independent movement, we learned from them and never stopped.

"How does a white opportunist host a "family reunion" for Southern Hip-Hop??"

"Julia Beverly is a fucking Culture Vulture who who showcases part-time dope dealers with part-time MC skills in her "magazine for the functionally illiterate". She might as well sell as space in the back for Bailsbondmen and Glad ziploc bags."

"magazine for the functionally illiterate" dude  they put a lot of pictures in there so what. People want to see the pictures. What's the problem with that. Maybe it's just not your type of magazine but damn you funny because last time I checked a lot of different type of people pick up Ozone. It's entertainment brah breathe easy.

Posted by: TheSponsor | August 05, 2008 at 07:03 PM

Now ,I don't agree with Julia Beverly all the time and vice verse. Yet I respect the work she has put in. Besides, a white opportunist is over the NBA, NFL, Recording Industry, TV networks, real estate companies, car dealerships, fast food restaurants, your current government, hell that computer you typing on, this list could go on for a while I'll stop here. If you never been to an Ozone Awards then I truly understand why you would say such a thing. But if you have then you know we all come there and kick it hard like any other event in the South. For those in the industry, we have been going since the start. And things don't go the way you want them all the time. But at the end of the day it's good to see everyone and I don't know about you and your people but down here we treat each other like family. Even if that means kicking your ass like family it is what it is--a southern hip-hop event.

Julia Beverly being white has nothing to do with why we come and shouldn't stop us unless you got some information you want to tell everyone. Make that shit good because like I said white opportunist are everywhere and it can't be a factor in the equation of getting where we are going. And currently the industry is held back by just as many uncle tom, black slave owners as it is white opportunist, that's why some of these cats are in the positions they are. Otherwise more people would be eating and we would have a better balance of music choices, but that's another story I don't think y'all ready to stomach.

OK you know my theory on this and I'll sum it up like this. America is a Drug pushing country period so don't pick and choose which dealers you prefer to talk about unless you are ready to address all. "Part time MC skills " (sounds like your average emcee, meaning a bunch of n*ggas that love hip-hop and what it means to them, which offends you, I love it!)

"especially in HOUSTON"

....Niggaz never gonna learn.... this sh*t is WHACK!! White folk throwin' a coon reunion... And these dumb asses will be runnin' 2 see this shit... WHACK!! "drugs, whore's, Tall White T-Shirts, trashy ass looking cars ..especially in HOUSTON...,

Posted by: therealjaydab | August 05, 2008 at 09:35 PM

Ok that first statement was enough to let me know you have never been to Houston. If you did, you went with a lame and one thing about lames in Houston they never seem to have a good time. You know why? Houston is a city that has everything to offer times 10. But they don't let you know about it if they don't want your lame ass spoiling the party. It's really an exclusive city. If you're with good people it's going down. Houston has given hip-hop some of the greatest music we will ever hear and it ain't over. So what the hell are you talkin about.

That's enough comedy for me today. Look it's like this. Everybody doesn't have to agree, but you cannot take the work that people have put in and act like it doesn't mean anything. To you it may not mean sh*t. But I can tell from your comments you don't love all your people, you pick and choose. You got that hate built up inside of you. You feel the same way about some of your family members. And they know it they just don't really f*ck with you anyway they just speak and move on.  And it will take time for you to see that everybody lives life differently. If you can't respect that then cool, you are what you are and that's sad. But I won't hold it against you because you provided me with motivation today when I'm not really feeling well and that my friends was priceless.

See ya in HTOWN. By the way what up to Buttaman and Tuma over at MTVJams, you can check out the Ozone Awards there soon.

Just in case you missed it the first time I posted it.

This the best post on the blog, hands down! you just explained that ish real for them 'dummies' lol...hataz everywhere we go...

i agree with jgunn

you're seriously a terrible writer. one would be more likely to find more intelligent and articulate pieces posted on sohh's old forums than here. you and gyant and the rest of your corny ass internet website crew make fools of yourselves daily and somehow manage to think you're doing something worthwhile. just seriously shut this site down. ever since the forums crashed sohh has been 100% worthless. i'm amazed you even post news anymore given that most of the stories were gleaned from the old message board.

If selling drugs to start your rap career is independence than I would rather be a slave. Negros (not Black people) are acting like these fools masquerading as producers (that play no live instruments and read no music) and rappers (that are really hiding dope money or trying to stay out of jail) are neighborhood heroes! lol

If getting behind some white girl is going to unify Black people - then we are LOST. I won't even discuss the caliber of writing in the magazine. Or the fact that almost EVERY artist featured is a criminal. The point is she is REINFORCING stereotypes by pushing more "Part and Bullsht, Party and Bullsht".

Do we actually need a magazine that interviews Gucci Mane about his (copyright infringing) Bart Simpson pendant? I mean really do we? Didn't this idiot just kill someone a few years ago? Wasn't he embroiled in some Simpleton (read: idiot) behavior with a bunch of gang members and common dope dealers? But yo - THIS is what Julia does. She gets behind a bunch of bum-ass rappers who are one day away from jail.

Don't get me wrong Slim Thug seems alright. But I dont MY son listening to someone who's name has "THUG" in it. I listened to Hip-hop for 20 years and this is what this sht comes to - negros laundering dope money or pretending to launder dope money or getting PWNED by dope dealers back home who are MAKING them launder dope money.

Negros like her because she showcases them at their most trifling. They get to be low-fi ghetto slum bums with gold teeth, big chains, with houses in their mama's names.

She give validity to the bullshit. Which is EXACTLY what I would expect from white people. They want to see us wallow in this madness.

You sure don't see them elevating the sht that kills red necks this way. Imagine Julia having a magazine that interviews country singers that everyone knew were running meth labs throughout rural America. It would NEVER happen. White people dont turn their real life thugs and drug dealers into celebrities. (And the Mafia doesn't count. You can't name ONE Mafia member with a record deal or a television show.)

All that aside - everyone knows that the Ozone Awards is just an excuse to use drugs, have illicit sex, avoid getting shot and screw one another out of money.

Its b-u-l-l-sh-i-t.

Yo, Yo... FUKK THAT!!

Any bitchass ni99a shytting on julia beverly is a bytchmade slacking ass faggot ass nigga.

Im 1000% percent hiphop AND a photographer and know straight up how hard it is to do what she did. Son that magazine has or had alot of flicks in there because she took most of the flicks herself!!!! She interviewed the niggas and took their flicks at the same time edited the entire magazine and had offices in miami and orlando moving from spot 2 spot and she did it damn near for dolo out of love for hiphop!!!! she had a small ass team and she brought that shyt from felon magazine status 2 the ozone awards fuck outta here you can be a hater thats cool.... but you cant shyt on no whyte girl who went into thorough ass hoods 2 interview and publish hiphop singlehandledly damn near... hell 2 da naw b. eat a fatass dick you porno jacking off ass slacker that girl is a queen for hiphop like wendy day and queen latifah.... you popping shyt like you even know how she gets down b. get outta here that bytch had pimp c cosigning her shyt!!!! Anybody popping shyt about the ozone mag can holla at the kid, b. Stop hating and start congratulating son for real.... One.

p.s. I dont even READ ozone magazine I just keep track of photographers cause its in my field and I only read pimp c's articles on sohh.com but even back in the day when I peeped ozone for a quick minute I easily saw julia beverly take flicks of artists dope ones 2 in fifteen different states in one issue and interview them cats... so stop hating. Respect the hustle.

You have to remember that many of the South haters are feeling the heat because their favorite cypher spitter isnt getting any shine. These cats dont see the forest for the trees. This is a business (now) more than a culture. Ok; there is a lot of coonish shit out there but hell New York has many of coons (DMX,Prodigy, The Diplomats etc etc etc) The reason these cats are hating and trying to stir hate in the South is because no other region has reigned this long since New York originally popped off with Rap. Yea i said "Rap" not Hip Hop, cause all of a sudden motherfuckers talkin bout the South aint Hip Hop. You ignorant no love showing, hating with a grin on your face ass niggas (i say that with a smile) We all the same. Whether its South, West coast, or North, we all represent a form of Hip Hop. If you want your region to shine, tell them to come up with a way to shine, because the South wasnt given any hand outs. Master P and whoever else during the late '90's wasnt bitchin bout East coast rap. They did what they had to do in their own respective area to get things poppin. So Mr. Flx you made very good statements and observations in this post. Its about time I see a blogger that aint always poppin off bout how the South (fill in the blank). Quit hatin the South!! Get in where you fit in or haul ass. The South still gonna shine whether we on MTV, or BET.

Who the fuck is talking about Southern rap? I am talking about ALL of rap!

Julia is one of many opportunists that are taking advantage of our children's minds and encouraging CRIMINALS to take over OUR music.

Roddeal: I know the cunt goes into "thorough neighborhoods" as you call them (read: goes into drug houses to take pictures of drug dealers) to take her pictures. People will do anything to get their money. Especially white folks, if it means degrading US.

iLL: This will always be MORE culture than money. Picasso was a painter. Modernism. It doesn't matter that his painting can cost as much as $15 Million dollars. Modernist painters didnt go out and start trying to focus on getting $15 Mill. They focus on ART and if they are good, the money comes too. But the dope dealing rappers got us so hung up on getting paid that we can't see we are destroying the art and OURSELVES.

This is NOT about the South. Its about negros and white girls fucking up the minds of Black children and destroying a credible art form.

The only hustle I respect is the one that puts GOD, Family and Community first. It could make a billion dollars. If it aint right for all of us - it's not worth doing.

One time for all my country folk.

yea i dont read that magazine so i aint gone speak on it. And it is alot of garbage rap comeing out, all they talk about is selling dope and killing like its the thing to do and that realy not some shit you supposed to brag about but at the same time they can do what ever they want to do and she can put anybody she want in her magazine. We dont know that woman on a personal level so we cant realy say her reasoning for doing it. At the end of the day its just rap we ass black people should be worried bout bigger things then what stories a rapper is entertaining people with we should teach our kids that most the rappers rap about things they have seen and not what they have actually lived. if they realy was that raw they wouldnt be rapping about it.
i know its a few who realy have lived and gorify it but they dont raise your kids you do so teach em. oh and gucci man killed dude in self defense

The Sponsor: Im with you on so many levels however my problem is why all of a sudden everyone is tooting this "rap is fucking up the minds of our children shit" now that the South has been runnin the scene. Why no one was saying that when the likes of Jay-Z, Biggie, Puffy, and whoever else was talking about drugs, sex, and money. Why have a problem with it now? Im just trying to understand. Trust me I feel you on it, but my only point is that people blaming the South for the degradation of rap and the culture of Hip hop when its not fair. I personally dont watch BET or MTV because I see it for what it is (exploitation) but im glad that the South is holding down the music scene right now. Key word i said is right now. Somewhere far in between, there are Southern artist that have something to say but in the end what gets played isnt in our control. As far as Ozone is concerned; I cant knock the white girls hustle. That should be a lesson to all the wanna be black business men/women out there to get off there asses and make things happen and stop the hate. We need to work together to make them moves. Sometimes I feel were our own enemy when it comes to making certain come ups because we hate on the next man down here. So The Sponsor; I agree but respectfully disagree with you in a sense if you get my drift. 1Hunid

iLL:

Brother I am in my 30s. I gave up rap twice in my life. Once in the early 90s (when the East Coast was big) and then again in the mid 90s (when the West Coast had a decided advantage).

I have been saying that rap was dangerous since I was old enough to drive. I was born in the early 70s. And you could see the shift as the East Coast go more into boasting about crime. (The Early Timbaland boot era lol) Then when the West Coast came they really took it too far by elevating gang activity and bragging about drug dealing. (I remember when NWA used to have actual AR-15s ON TV in their HANDS while they did interviews or when Dr. Dre assaulted Dee Barnes for interviewing Ice Cube after he left the group.)

The South just extended the message. They aren't responsible for the direction, they just joined in. Holding them solely responsible means a person doesn't know their history.

Jay-Z and Ice Cube are as must responsible for the destructive direction of rap, as are Gucci Mane and Lil Keke. The only real difference is that the South has allowed more openly indifferent drug dealers that dont really rap or can't rap at all enter the business under the pretense that "everyone needs money". Yeah, doctors make good money too. DO that. What about a machinist? But they are too busying thugging it out to stay in school to do either.

This is NOT about the South, its about rap. We are helping White people, like Julia, sell the worst of our culture, to our children.

Recognize this: 90% of what WE talk about in rap music would have been considered criminal or deviant by our Ancestors. We created math, science, medicine and were the world's first architects. Now all we can manage to do is play ball, rap or do stand up comedy. And when we do it, we talk about sht that our mothers consider disgusting. We need to do better.

On my final note, notice that almost everyone that has come to Julia's defense also admitted to not really reading the magazine, just thumbing the pictures. This is serious. As Black men we need to be READERS. The only magazines in America that do not contain real reading content are the ones designed for Black men. If you want an intelligent full length article for men you gotta buy a copy GQ. But pick up a copy of "Black Men" or King and you will be treated to sht that was written at a 4th grade level. They are trying to say we are too stupid to be treated to REAL magazine content. Which brings up back to Julia - who is a PART of that problem - by featuring criminals instead of REAL artists and REAL community heros.

As far as getting out on our own - I agree. I own two businesses. Which is why I can post any time or day I want. lol I AM the boss. There is no one looking over my shoulder. People call ME for checks. Not the other way around. (BTW I AM from the South originally. So no hate here.)

Peace!

Damn Sponsor u amaze me with your passion then baffle me with your ignorance. You sandal-and-capri-pant-coffe-house-cornball cats always wanna talk about how the culture is suffering when a rapper gets his money talkin bout life from his perspective. Who care's if the rappers talk bout crime drugs sex and money. The Learning channel and history channel are on all day and haven't made this nation collectively smarter. Why would BET and MTV make us more prone to ignorance. The truth is this PARENTING is lacking and thats why the children are messed up. So address all the bad parents not the rappers as to why the world is flawed. But to do that you have to stop your slave driving white masters from creating an enviornment where options are so limited they push young men and women into the streets. You have to stop YOUR masters from working black mothers and fathers all day and night for pennies so they can go home and parent. Thats how you fix the problems. Not by "spitting" about space ships, skateboarding and African and Egyptian gods which I'm sure your favorite rapper does. RESPECT OUR SOUTHERN MOVEMENT! COUNTRY RAP TUNES ALL DAY! I don't care if you hate every southern rapper and every southern song you hear for the rest of you life. You cannot deny that them boys making opportunities out of NOTHING which is the greates talent we have as BLACK PEOPLE.

Holla at me this weekend playa we'll do a shot!

THAT GOES FOR FLX AND GYANT AND ALL YOU CLOWNS!!! I WILL HOLLA WHEN YOU SEE ME CHUMP!!

Ok therealjyaydab This is FLX. You obviously got enough passion about the subject for everyone on the blog so lets hear you out. I'm listening to everything you saying and my main concern is the hate you pushin in the wrong direction. Sorta like how you wildin out on Gyant when I wrote the blog. That's the pattern I'm addressing.

We know the Ozone Awards is not meant to be about up lifting black people. Its about uplifting those that do hip hop down south, Period.

Now I'ma take this slow because it would be easy for me to just jump all retarded line for line with ya but my overall mind tells me that you got some personal issues with the music scene in houston and from the list that you gave seems like we came up on the same shit. So I know how those convos can go tryin to go back and forth full of macho man randy savage talk and I won't do it for a minute, Not when it's easy to see that you really just want more balance and feel like ok where is the postitive side to all this rim ridding, syrup sipping, bla bla.

I feel ya. And I'm guessing your also a parent which added more steam to ya convo. You challenged me over the internet without going straight intellect for intellect you went to " you better watch your head" ok well tell me what kind of positive shit is that. My head will be just fine, I walk wit God pimp and when I need to power up and show his power then shit it has never failed me and ...... you see I really have no more words for that because i don't even know who I'm talking to but just know that FLX will always be on point. I refuse to talk shit over the internet. You want to talk about Gay. That's the Gayest shit ever to me. The internet is based off of your mind and ability to express yourself. When your mind breaks, and you get frustrated you lose it. So if you're that hot headed then shit I guess I just did exactly what i didn't want to do. But this won't be the first or last time I step in some shit so it's on you playa have it your way. I'm grown over here in everyway.

You see when I blog I simply spark the convo that is needed for the right angle for you and others to have an opinion. Sometimes you will say something I agree with and sometimes you don't. Vice Versa. Being the Blogger, I make sure both sides of the story are represented. You have every right to feel how you feel. But realize that an event like the ozone awards is what it is. I see alot of positive and negative. But last year when I saw over 300 black men in one room for TJ's dj conference talking and exchanging ideas about getting their money and buisness together. I felt proud of our industry because we are finally making progress on understanding the buisness side. These artist may be lost to you. But brah its got to start somewhere and for alot of people. These conferences represent something to them. They learn shit. They fellowship with others in their industry. The interact with others from state to state, and that opens there minds each time. What you get out of this weekend is on you. The ignorant shit that will be there will be there anyway and thats just youth being immature. That's present at any event. But I know more cats going to showcase, see, learn, and kick it than i do those going just to be ignorant.

Nobody tried to OVERTHROW what you said if that were the case somebody would have just deleted your comments. Its that simple! I enjoy every comment and especially the ones like yours that I don't agree all the way with because then and only then do readers get to get both sides of the coin and that is the whole goal of why I blog. I would never want just my opinion to be law. It's all about the collective. Please get that threw your head because if you take the shit the wrong way. God have mercy on you and me cause I really don't entertain bullshit and when I see you aint feeling communication then it will be what it will be. I never can be caught dissin anyone on this blog shit. And if I do call me on it and I'm more than man enough to say when I'm wrong. I don't do the back and forth shit. feel free to email me RIGHT NOW @ sohhdirtyinfo@gmail.com and ill give ya the number or you give me yours. Because all the typing back and forth personal insults, I DON'T DO IT. AND WE AINT GOT TO WAIT TIL THE AWARDS EMAIL AND PHONE WORKS 24/7 period .THIS IS A BLOG MEANT TO SPARK CONVERSATION AND COMMUNICATION. So that other shit you yappin, save it for someone that don't feel where you comin from because I see where you going with your conversation and you're exactly the type people I want to continue commenting on my particular part of the site. And while we are on the subject since you are from Texas. And you in the typing mode then tell me this therealjaydab. What should Texas do to balance out the ignorance. Who should they push more. I feel your pain you want the knowledge in the music that you were raise on so what can we do. What events should we all pay more attention to. And don't get quite on this one be just as energetic because I'm sure tha very people you want to see it are reading right now.

You are right @flx for what you did. hell ive been saying it along that yall got the power to moderate these sights and dictate the potential of readership here. Dont waste time talkin hate or feelin hate. Dont waste blog space tellin us how wendy williams sonned another chick. Dont waste the blog telling us how paris hilton sucked up ryan seacrest in LA when this is a hip hop site. Give us some fuel to feel the passion that you feel when you create the conversation. Ive gotten so tired of "first" and "fuck u" and "where you live, ima come see u". These blogs are like the CD's. Yeah there is parental advisory and censorship but long as the positive outweigh the negative then we all benefit. 2 THEREALJAYDAB... calm down bro. Where were you when Sean Bell was protested? Have you registered to vote? Have your kids had square meals today? Have you told your mama you love her? Has a neighbors child had a good meal today? There are millions of other issues these days than to be worried about a white ladies, revenue generating magazine geared to the hip hop nation/world. If you dont like is, as im sure you wouldn't like an Indian magazine if youre black, then you dont have to read it. But Julias getting money and youre impeading her goals by being on the internet hatin. So i'll leave you with this. To get sponsorship to the conference its probably in the thousands.. (revenue for Julia/TJ) To attend all the functions without the awards... about $350 (more revenue for Julia/TJ) Just to attend todays functions...i think about 30-40 dollars. (even more revenue by Julia/TJ) and lets not forget the official meet and greet afterparties (revenue.. you get the pic) Now take those numbers and multiply them by the hundreds of people who are paying for the sponsorship, hundreds for the functions and hundreds for the party. JayDab, this is a million dollar affair so regardless of how hood the people at the event is, Julia and TJ got everyone exactly where they need them for the next three days. While it cost you to sit on the computer and pay for service and buy a WHITE MANS computer and type hate from a BLACK MANS MIND!! Negro please.. and thats my two cent..

PS.. hate to diss you FLX dawg, but you should sharpen up on the spelling. Not tryin to hate but its kinda irritating how i look at a word a few times to make sure its right and break my reading pace. God bless homie...
