It seems there's a big trend about to snowball and it's probably the best thing ever for music. Independence. I remember back when Slim Thug first signed to Interscope. We were all geeked up because if you followed the down south underground, Slim was one of the ones that you knew could go major. But as soon as his album came out the reviews were mixed. I mean Pharrell did his thing. But if you were looking for that southern fried Texas hip-hop, it was gone. It's like the majors don't understand how to maintain the integrity of the lane that made you love the artist in the first place.

So Slim Thug is now independent which won't last long. But we're guaranteed to get a Texas classic in the meantime.

T-Pain has the answer, go digital on these fools. He has jumped off Nappy Boy Digital. This is a big step for music simply because T-Pain is a top selling artist. So instead of going the normal route of signing your artist or crew with the same label he decides to turn left and do it all digital.
"My life and career so far has been about breaking barriers and this label allows me to continue that by delivering hit songs in real time, no red tape, just good music. You'll hear us in the clubs and on radio too"
So what do ya think? Is the independent route the way to go? Will we still support the independent artist enough so that they won't have to go major to make major money?

that look like a damn Tralanchela on T-Pains head. Hey blog owner you suck major dick. H-Town is soft as fuck. nigga I smacked the shit outta J.Prince in 94' on nutty blocc because he didn't get his west coast pass in time. Fuck this stupid ass city. I'm Spider Loc's cousin bitch you and everybody who got probs can come to 3557 Grape St bitch I'm playing X-Box 360 w/ my Crip team I made on Madden 08 bitch
Independents are always better anyways. Well except for the beats. Thats all the major labels are good for are expensive producers and one big video on MTV and BET.
I'm going to put my co-sign with stevenyayo on this one. Independent albums are the classics--Reasonable Doubt, anyone? Sure the beats aren't as hot, but the artistry is intact and that's what I support. A hot beat just means it'll get played in the club and that's it. Hell, MTV and BET's support isn't even needed nowadays.
G-Unot Killa needs to take a grammar class and learn how to spell "tarantula"...lol
Everyone knows that being independent since the hip-hop record sales have been in a slump that independent is the way to go. You make a lot more $$ off of your c.d. The only reason rap artist these days go major is because they want the fame and the groupies sweating them. That's the only reason of going with a major label. Bet and Mtv aint doin jack these days. You do not need a hot video or a major label to be successful. Soulja Boy is a prime example. T-Pain is on the right path with the digital label. I'm just surprised that it took somebody this long to figure this out. But of course it took an artist to see that then a major exec, which is sad, casue the exec's are suppose to be the brains of the outfit. Can someone tell me what are major exec's are for again if they dont know that in today's day and age that you have to go digital to keep your business afloat. I thought that was common sense.
What the hell is all this bias against production on indie albums? Y'all are waaaaaaaaaaaay off-base on that bullshit. 9th and Buckshot JUST dropped a great record, "The Formula", Black Milk has consistently great shit, Jay Electronica's barely signed and his tracks are fire...so I, and anyone else here, probably has no clue as to what you're talking about.
G-G-G-G-UNOT!!!!
