You had to know it was coming. Real southern fans still aren't feeling that Atlanta brand of hip hop are they?

I know I'm not and never have been. So it was no surprise to see that your boy Shawty Lo debuted at 13 on the Billboard 200 with only 31,000 units moved. Moving a single doesn't equal moving album units and I get the feeling another southern artist is going to find out the same soon. However Webbie with little fanfare, but a hot track debuted at 4 with 72,000 units moved. I hope those of you that called Shawty Lo the hottest thing in hip-hop right now have something to say because you're man is going to struggle to push 50,000 units. Time to pawn the CZ's in your chain. The game has changed and if you're on your grind, take notes.

  • Let's be honest, it doesn't matter where you are from and/or what scene you think is on top, but NOBODY is moving units anymore. The South is only on top in terms of ringtones and radio play. If you are Southern rapper with no hot ringtones you might as well be from the Bronx or L.A. because you will not sell.

  • @countryraptunes I am from NY and not that I am a fan of Jay z or 50 cent but those two NY rappers moved a decent amount of numbers (JayZ-1 million, 50 cent- over a million). When was the last time in the past five months or so that a Southern rapper went platinum? Record sales are down and rap sales especially are down big time across all regions of this country. This is not about what region you are from as long as you can rap, you are lyrical, creative with your music, and have something relevant to say (not just talking about hoes, rims, drugs, and busting guns). Little Brother and Andre 3000 are examples of rappers from the south that I support because they are creative , lyrical and they have relevant and sometimes socially conscious things to say in their music. There are some wack New York rappers too.
